Old Bay Seasoning Blend - Make it Yourself

- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- Old Bay is an iconic seafood seasoning blend, but it can be used in so many different ways. From a popcorn sprinkle, salad and vegetable seasoning or an addition to an appetizer dip.
If you don't want to pay the price, which to me is exorbitant, or like me, it isn't available where you live, this is an easy way to still have that same great blend. Although you need a lot of different ingredients, many of them, you probably already have on hand.
Give it a try, it only takes a minute to put together and keeps for well into a year if stored correctly.

INGREDIENTS
• 10-12 Bay leaves
• 1 tablespoon celery salt
• 1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard
• 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
• 1 teaspoon ground ginger
• 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (sweet paprika will work in a pinch)
• 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
• 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves (can use allspice as a substitute)
• 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
• 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
• 1/2 teaspoon ground mace (can substitute nutmeg), mace is the ground outer covering of the nutmeg.
• 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom, or an additional 1/8 tsp cinnamon and 1/8 tsp cloves
• 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
PREPARATION STEPS
1. Combine thoroughly and store in sealed container. Makes about 1/4 cup.

Just made up a batch of this yumminess. WOW, it packs a punch!! I'm eating more fish and seafood these days and just happened to have almost all the ingredients. I added sugar - 2 tbsp - cause this concoction is like fire medicine!! Can't wait to try it on some cod or shrimp. My batch yielded 6oz. and will last a long time as I'll only use a small amount. VERY POWERFUL spice blend.
Thank you so much for this. Texas Gulf Coast born, moving to Central America. Not sure if I can find seafood boil there. Look to see if i could make my own. You're a savior.
That is very clever of you, to work out what you need and making your own

OKAAAAAAY I’m trying this! Thank you for sharing.
Also where did you purchase the Old Bay jar?
Glad you're going to give it a try!
The jar is just a repurposed jam jar that I had. I tend to save all my jars. The label is from a pack I got from Amazon. They have all sorts of packs, for spices or pantry staples. I've also seen the same labels since I purchased mine at Temu for much cheaper.
Thanks for watching!
@@catscratchkitchen • You’re very welcome. And thank you for the information about the labels.

Old Bay with Cavenders on fries. Try it.
Sounds interesting. Thanks for watching!
Great, you can take some pike, pickerel, perch or trout off your apron and season them with old bay,😂 cheers🎉
Oh yes!
The question is : How close in taste this mix resembles the real Old bay seasoning ??
Personally, I think it taste extremely similar.
If I'm making crab cakes and mixing it right in I just squirt some dark mustard into it instead of trying to find the mustard powder.
Great idea! Thanks for sharing. I'm always looking for easy go-arounds to use what I have on hand. Thanks for watching.
I dont even use celery salt.
In crab cakes!
Sorry I hate old bay 😮
That's okay, you can stick to chicken tenders while the actual adults have food opinions
