There is nothing better than making something, trying it on and feeling it's so right for you and feel great in it 👌. You nailed this one Alex and the jacket looks fab with it 🙏. I can see more of those dresses in your life 😜👍💖😘
Really love the tonal dressing - it’s gorgeous. You’ve done a brilliant job on that waist seam and it’s smooth and level all the way round. I love the Jasika jacket too. I’m so jealous of your tailoring skills. Clever woman.
Love your knit woven dress. This would be so comfortable. It’s very helpful to see your different options for the gathering. I think it would be amazing in a summer version, I’m adding this to my list.
I love watching vlogmas but it’s also nice to see a strictly sewing vlog. You are a careful and neat sewer and that inspires me to be neater. I’ve bought myself a copy of the curated closet and it is my project over the Christmas break. Your dress is great on you, it wouldn’t look great on me. So I am looking forward to working out what is best for me. Slightly nervous about taking photos of outfits in case I then think they look horrible and losing confidence in my choices 😢. But I’ll put my big girl pants on😂.
You might surprise yourself, I feel more confident now that I know what does and doesn't work, it was a bit painful getting there, but worth it now xxx
As someone who often self drafts, I really appreciated watching you experiment with how to best construct this dress, gathering, pocket design etc. It's just the kind of thing I spend a long time pondering - good to see your thought process and pick up some ideas I might try. Janice
WOW first time viewer and I’m so pleased to have found you and love your dress, very creative and I want to try that myself. I will now start watching your other vlogs. What a joy 🤩
I have a ready to wear dress, that I purchased in Sainsbury’s of all places, which has a knit top and a woven skirt. I love it and since I started sewing have wanted to re-create it. Thank you for this video. I now have a much better understanding of how to go about this. 😊
The best kind of sewing! A dress that makes you feel fabulous. It’s clear from the look on your face that this dress is really you. I love it! The shades of green, including the jacket, are lovely together. More interesting than a perfect match. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for showing us how to attach a woven skirt to a knit top. I also really like that style and could see myself wearing that. I also have made a jasika blazer but don't wear it . Can't say why exactly , I'll have to try it on.
Two big wins with your dress and your Jasika jacket. Both look fabulous. I can see your Knit/woven dress becoming a bit of a favourite in the sewing community!
I really like how your dress turned out. Some of my favourite articles of clothing are a combination of knit and woven. I really like the cargo pockets too. They definitely add to the look.
Oh my goodness, your dress looks fabulous. And the blazer is a wonderful coordinating layer. Well done! Very interesting, as well, to watch your process in coming up with your perfect dress. 🇨🇦
Love the dress on you, was wondering if putting a narrow band of stretch interfacing around the bottom of the jersey wouls helpstabilise it just a little more? ❤
Love the dress! It works so well and I also like it with the jacket. I’m not usually a matcha matcha person but quite like the trend for tonal dressing, especially when the shades are slightly different. Great job 👏🏼
So excellent!! You are a super star!! Your dress is perfect!! And your jacket as well. Looking forward to seeing your next make. You’re such an inspiration 🎄🎄
I absolutely love it! This style is so "me" - I'd been wanting to make something like it since the summer (with a tank top). Thanks for trying the different methods of attaching the two pieces, you've made my life easier. 😃
Fab makes! Great thinking to replicate a shop bought garment that you've tried and liked. You did a great job and I love your blazer. Very inspiring as always 💕
That dress turned out great. I have been wanting to do one myself for about a year. I haven't had proper fabrics mainly because when I order knit fabrics I typically get a yard for a short sleeve or a yard and a half for long sleeve and there's usually not enough leftover, just scraps for the knickers bin. I'm really going to prioritize this project this coming spring.
Yes, you have definitely inspired me to do the same.it’s funny because I am also going through new style for myself. I never wear dresses and I just made one I copied from a Johnny Was dress. I will not bore you with detail…. Your dress is such a beautiful rendition. And the pockets are the perfect touch. I hope you don’t mind if I try this style out too.
I love that dress SO MUCH. I lean towards fit & flare (I think my style words would be casual, retro, and fun) but I might still attempt to create something similar. I'll have to research what to do on top if the skirt is going to be bigger and heavier, like a circle skirt. Should be fun!
Alex, the timing of your video is so perfect. I’ve recently bought fabric to copy a dress that I saw in Me & Em that had a ribbed jersey top and woven cotton skirt (I’m hacking the top part of the Ravenna dress by Tammy handmade and adding a gathered skirt). Anyway, I too was doing the mental gymnastics to work out how to add the skirt to the top so that the seam line was stable and had concluded that clear elastic was the way to go. However I wasn’t sure it would work but your video has given me the confidence to know it will. Thank you so much. PS it’ll be my third copy of an item from Me & Em!
Lovely dress 😊 and I love seeing you so happy and excited. Also WOW ! That jacket is perfection ! May I ask you which is yr preferred method of hemming knits / jerseys? Do u use a cover stitch machine? I have tried a jersey twin needle on my sewing machine but I am not pleased with the results . Tks .
Thanks so much xx I tend to stick with a jersey twin needle. If I can be bothered I'll fiddle around with the tension so I don't get any tuneling, but I'm often too impatient 😂
Great video Alex, I made an Agnes top and added a skirt panel and turned out well, but yours is using 2 different fabric types, which at the time was well out of my confidence in sewing skillls, but now after watching your video on trialing the elastic waist…..you’ve done the hard work for us, I’m keen to make on. Thank you.
It was lovely to see your process and the finished dress is gorgeous but for me this vlog was marred by the excessive chat about your lights. Did you say if this was a paid promotion? Apologies, if it was I may have missed it

IT IS GREAT.... wonder if linen might work on the bottom?
I don’t see why not ❤️
Love the dress on you, was wondering if putting a narrow band of stretch interfacing around the bottom of the jersey wouls helpstabilise it just a little more? ❤
Lovely Gift from Becky, very special fabric beautifully transformed.
Bravo 👏🏻 why don’t you try this with that A-line skirt you’re dreaming about? Turn that straight skirt pattern you just made into an A- line.
Perfect dress on you. I love the "droopy" way the pockets turned out!
Great dress, you've nailed it, appreciate you sharing the technique with the clear elastic......
Nailed it. It’s fab and you look casual, edgy and chic. Well done
