Food is cheap in LA, the Salvadorian, Mexican grocery stores are good for cheap produce if you can cook. Also food trucks are everywhere in the evening especially, so good tacos etc for a few dollars etc. Fruit is often sold off trucks in certain places, for a few dollars. Chinatown is excellent for herbs, fruit, teas, frozen Chinese foods etc. There are not many Walmarts in LA, but quit a few Targets (the one in Downtown LA has higher cost items). In school zones, in certain neighborhoods, people sell ices, boiled corn with cheese/mayo on a stick, fried corn crisps, icecream, frozen drinks with milk and fruit etc. So be creative and open with your grocery needs, and spend more money on rent so you can live in peace and focus on what you came to LA for.
I respectfully advise you do not try to scare the ambitious kids and tell them not to move the without 10k+ in the bank. It's just stupid! Im going down there from IOWA next week with only 6k in my pocket and I am sure I'll be successful there!
Zijia Ge Actually 5 LA Chronicles viewers moved here with about $600 - $1000 saved and guess what they ended up on the streets. LA is not a cheap place to live. Rent has gone up by almost 300% as of late. $500 studios are now $800 one bedrooms are now 1400 when it was once $900. Unless you will find a roommate its good to have money in the bank. 2 months rent it cost to get in an apt so that that 2800 for a one bedroom. Depending on your skill set it will take you 1-2 or even 3 months to find a job. The truth will set you free. Its not as easy when I moved to LA 12 years ago.
Justin Ge I wanted to talk about the people that have contacted me and told me they end up living on the streets but I didn't want to out them. But I think I will talk about it after all. No not 2-3 weeks I was saying MONTHS. When I said you're not living with me in the video. Because after they ended up on the streets they asked to come live with me. I did allow 2 to live with me but I will never do that again.
Justin Ge I did receive emails saying thank you for the advice about moving to LA. I was told 3 times they had about 6000-12000 saved. I've even received update but I will giving information on how to get a quick job in LA just to bring money in soon.
You don't NEED to have that much money saved up. All you really need is 3-5k, a car to sleep in if you need it, and a low skilled job(s), ( It helps if you have worked for something like a major retail chain before because you get hired almost immediately and they're always hiring. ie. walmart, ie. target etc. ) then find somewhere that's like 500-800 rent( room/house/apartment share either with a private room or not), and they exist, especially around the san gabriel valley.
You got be a fool going to a new city or state that way. You need an address so they can see how far you live from the job and you risk having your car being towed for parking on private property too long. Trust me. Ive seen it happen recently to an elderly man at my local grocery store. And you need a phone number to be contacted for interviews. I would do as she suggests and save 15k minimum.
Zijia Ge Where is my balls? Just even trying on moving there even with money and a job lined in the first place is taking a risk because you still may or not succeed. I don't mind taking risks but just not in the way described. Eh whatever. Get yours.
QuadrantBottomHalf I worked at Bj's making like 10-13 an hour about 850-1000 a month, got transferred immediately, had a little over 5k untouched (only for rent), got a room/apartment share deal with my own room for 650 (and its not a bad place at all), then got a second job. Now I work 4-5 days a week and make about 1500 a month, and I didn't have to pay rent for 8 months because of my savings. I'm saving about 700-1000 bucks a month which will go to the months after that 9 months runs out. Also, I have an interview for a data entry job which will give me 40 hours a week at 15 an hour. I'm set, so the fact you're saying that's not a solid plan boggles my mind. People who need to save a shit ton of money are either worry warts, are not able to live simply, or have too many unnecessary bills for shit they don't need. Now if you expect a glamorous single studio then things will get expensive. I'm getting my accounting degree soon so I know how to live frugally and budget, and the college dorm life has taught me to be comfortable in small rooms. It doesn't bother me( even though my room is a decent size).
I used to work in collections and one of the clients I handled was eBay...I mean there's people who were thousands of dollars in debt. Lol. You don't have to have a lot of money to move to LA there's so many options. Money is just an excuse and a easy distraction for people not to focus on what they want to do. You hear stories about ppl moving there with $500. Money should never be a reason decide not/wait to move. If you have $5000 you'll be fine. Life is about taking chances and going for what you believe in not sitting there and waiting for something to happen. When you focus on the notion that's when things happen.
Rayven Renai Yeah but some people would rather be safe because jobs are hard to come by in this eco. I mean were talking about moving to a whole new state and not up the block.
+QuadrantBottomHalf true but at the same time. You say "ok I'm going to save $10,000 so I can move" that can also take forever to save. What if you work at TJ Maxx and get paid $7.40 it will be forever to get to 10k. Yeah work can be tough but jobs are going to hire out of state ppl faster than they will in state ppl because they know new ppl need a job and will work. Also there's all times of solutions for jobs. Work from home for example this is what I do. Plus you're not going to get anywhere sitting and waiting for things to happen and it's easy to get distracted. One may get pregnant, married, etc and feel they have no choice to stay. It's so easy to become stuck and comfortable.
Rayven Renai Companies like Walmart give full time once you get past probation period and you can always go for a 2nd job if need be. Employers aren't looking for entry level workers when then have thousands local waiting. Have you ever landed an entry level job out of state?
Since I've moved to LA recently, I'm going to stress these 3 things: HAVE MONEY! At least $10K (as a cushion to fall back on), A CAR, AND GOOD/DECNT CREDIT! CREDIT CREDIT CREDIT! If you want to live in a decent part of LA, you need to have at least a 630 credit score.
I am moving to LA in a few weeks. I'm a bit older (30), have a lot more money saved, and a bit of a professional background (I have aspirations but I am not trying to dive right into THE BIZ)...I love your channel. It has helped me mentally prepare for the move.
This video has definitely gotten rid of most (if not...all..) my anxiety about moving back to California on my own again. (first time, I moved in with an ex who was abusive.) Thank you.
I'm moving to LA once I graduate next year. My goal is to save up $8k (half way at my goal) but I'm going to save more than that. Pinching pennies! Love your vids.
heavenly rose I did! I actually moved in December after I got off of my navy deployment. Transitioned out of the navy, found a GREAT job after a month that pays decent. I'm apartment hunting since I'm staying with a good friend of mine, and it's a BITCH lol. Apartment hunting is the worst in LA. I saved up about $19k. I put a dent in my saving in between my brief time off and catching my bills up. But all and all I'm here.
Ronnie Gonzalez if you have friends here, try to stay with them to save up more money. If you don't have that option, save money, and do a long term AirBNB/room rental until you find a job to stay by yourself. If you just want that studio apartment, you will most likely be downtown. You need a CAR IN THESE LA STREETS! I don't give a damn what anyone says, you need a car. I didn't come to LA for vanity or entertainment. I came here to further my career in healthcare and I'm glad I did. Found a job making $29 per hour and I'm finally moving in my apartment in the Baldwin Hills area. Save save save! I can't stress that enough. Don't come out here broke LOL. There are too many homeless ppl on Hollywood Blvd already. Best of luck.
I definitely agree that you should move with some money saved. I visited 8 years ago, which was quite a while, but it was rough. I went with a friend and we didn't have a rental car so we had to use public transportation (which was EXHAUSTING) and we just didn't have enough money when visiting which contributed it to not being that great of a trip. I still consider moving there permanently, but I'm hesitant at just up and leaving without some thousands saved.

If you have a job, get a credit card with no annual fee and start building credit. If not then will need co signer or pay 6 months rent upfront. You can also try short term leases month or corporate housing. I didn't get my 1st credit card until like around 25.
Hello, I just came across your channel , great stuff! I have a question for you you mentioned parking in Florida , so I'm thinking your from there. If you are do you have any tips for me. I will be moving from Massachusetts to Florida this summer but I'm having a hard time finding someone who will rent to me without a job being lined up. I have $25,000 to get myself started down there. Any advice would help
Try corporate housing, short term leases, motels, hotels, or get with a company and transfer. Offer to pay 6 months rent in advance and make sure your credit is on point.
I'm so sorry i'm now seeing your comment. Your pass job information and the money that you have in the bank should be fine since you're moving into a new state. You need to show the owners or rental companies that you can pay the rent for the next few months. If it is Miami usually they will ask for First last and security to cover themselves..
But even once you get settled in do some exploring of other properties online or by site and take note of the ones you like so if you ever had to move again for whatever reason, you're ready. Stay ahead of the game honey. Don't ever hesitate to hit me. Always willing to help.
I'm not even near going to College yet lol. But I was deciding whether to go to La for college or not. How can I find a well paying job and what sorts of jobs are there.
Michelle Martin Your yearly trip back to Canada, joke... 😂 I'm covered by my job I really don't know how this health care stuff works.. My godmother goes back to Canada every years..
interesting points ,if anyone else is searching for how to get a job at the railroadhow to get a job on the railroad try Debuncar Railroad Jobs Aid (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my partner got great results with it.
And I would like to add a FYI when you go to get your license after you pass the written test they will ask you for your birth certificate and if your name has changed due to marriage or another reasons make sure you bring proof of your name charge such as a marriage license or court papers showing proof of your name change and they will not allow u to get your license without it.

+QuadrantBottomHalf yes I have and I also moved from another state with no money as well.
I just watched a video of a lady who moved to LA with $200. Her approach to housing was interesting but that would scare the crap out of me.

LA CHRONICLES. Thank you. If you've ever hoped to find someone to invest in, I'm your man. I won't stop until I'm where I know I deserve being
If not, no hard feelings. Just remember my name
That is so weird. The other day I was like "I'm gonna make sure I have $12,000 for rent. But I need utilities and such so I will dedicate $15,000 for a year rent."
You have the same price scheme haha I guess we think alike.

Super helpful! Im moving to LA in May/June.
thank you because I see so many people on YT telling folks to move with nothing. YOu cannot do that. IT's high in L.A.
I am so glad that I came across your channel! I am also trying to move to LA , and I was wondering how can I go about talking to you directly? I've been searching for the safest area in all parts of LA as well as San Diego. If you could please help me I would be very grateful.
taiyves what areas would you recommend as far as safety is concerned?
Thank you for your suggestions. I love studio city. very nice.
Always looking forward to a new vid from a pretty lady like you. Trying to save 15 stacks in this economy is like 15 milli. Cant find a job to save my life.
You are so real love your videos
Thank you
Here's a question -- is it true most job interviews are fairly informally dressed? I heard people say usually nice jeans, button down shirt and nice dress shoes is the attire.
i want to move to california when im older ! im 14 now :D
Do you have a tutorial for the eye makeup? It looks gorgeous!
Thank you.. I don't do make up videos.. If I ever do i'll message you for sure
Hey I'm a British citizen and I would love to move to America by mid 20s preferably Los Angeles, I'm 15 just now, but I'm struggling to find information on how to get an American citizenship HELP! Please :)
be persistent. thats all it will take. If something seems impossible or annoying, i guarantee you theres another way to do it. Also, you will most likely have the benefit of having a british accent, which we freakin love over here.
So how you doing now?
I plan to move to Los Angeles in about 3 years. I was wondering, is a credit card needed to rent an apartment?
No.. but I will recommend taking care of your credit..
LA CHRONICLES Thanks for your help, I really appreciated it! I don't have credit though.
we all have credit.. Credit Card and paying your Bills on time help build it. Google will help you understand a little more
If you have a job, get a credit card with no annual fee and start building credit.
+QuadrantBottomHalf thanks for the tips, I have found a place and will be paying a year in advance. I sign my lease on September 9th

And I would like to add a FYI when you go to get your license after you pass the written test they will ask you for your birth certificate and if your name has changed due to marriage or another reasons make sure you bring proof of your name charge such as a marriage license or court papers showing proof of your name change and they will not allow u to get your license without it.
