To anyone watching this who wants to go to Santa Monica via public transportation!
A Santa Monica Expo Line was completed in 2015, so you can now go to Santa Monica with the Metro rail by connecting to the Santa Monica Expo line from Union Station.

NYC is the best city to move using public transportation. A ride is US$2.75 but it includes a free transfer to a bus. (By the way I'm thinking to move to LA)

Riding the bus in LA is a downright nightmare (I'm talking about MTA busses)! I didn't get a car until I was 20 and had to rely on the bus. Never ride it until you have hours to spend waiting for two busses to arrive at the same time.

I was able to get around LA commuting. LA is one of the cities I often visit when I'm in The US if not NY.
Though the areas are limited. Yes buses run less frequently compared to NY. But since I usually stay in either West LA or Culver City, buses there run more frequently especially The Culver City Bus and Santa Monica Big Blue Bus!
Best to get those transfers and schedules!

That's cheap. I live in Vancouver Canada and it's $2.75 for one zone metro or a bus anywhere, up to $5.50 to travel through 3 zones on the metro from the airport. And you pay again if you don't have a $6 pass card going from bus to metro.

I tried for about 90 minutes, then I went back to the house and got the car. LA does not have a whole lot of sidewalks unless your in downtown LA, and if there is a sidewalk, the pedestrians are an afterthought. My experience there was that much of LA county caters to motorist and not pedestrians or people with bicycles.

Damon and Jo: I used to be from L.A. and I could see from your video you were in Santa Monica (I recognize the area you were in from your background) and you were on an axis. Santa Monica is not perpendicularly north and south, it lurches so if you were on any number street 2nd to 20th your street was Northwest to Southeast if you were on one of the boulevards (Wilshire, Santa Monica, Pico, Olympic) your street was Northeast to Southwest. I know transit in L.A. like the back of my hand- You said Santa Monica had no rail- beginning this spring 2016 the Expo line going from Downtown Los Angeles to Culver City will commence new extended service to Santa Monica at 4th and Colorado. About Big Blue Bus (originally known as Santa Monica Municipal Bus Lines) if you were to use BBB extensively they had a separate day pass like MTA of L.A. has. Remember also Los Angeles isn't bad on owl routes 12am-5am. Line 20 (Wilshire Blvd), Line 4 (Santa Monica Blvd) run frequent service every 15-30 minutes through this time. Los Angeles is creeping up the better transit scale. Not quite like New York City. Furthermore I am proud of you both that you decided to use transit in L.A. it's not as frightening as travel guides tell you. Thanks for this video- it needs just a little tweeking with your facts.
