You've inspired me to adopt a neglected tortoise who lived in a fish aquarium. The tank was so small that she couldn't even turn around. It genuinely made me feel so bad. She's currently chilling on a heating pad in my basement, I made a little enclosure for her. She loves her veggies! I can't wait for spring so she can experience freedom for the first time. I'm going to install a small barrier fence so she can explore the yard as she pleases.
My turtle was the same! I got another turtle that eats and put it in his tank, then he saw the other turtle eating which made him eat too. Takes a few days though just give it some time and it'll be ok :)
I'm a first time turtle mom and read this online somewhere, so I followed a similar rule. Glad I'm on the right track! My YBS is a year and two months. He wants food all the time though. I change it up often. He's about 3 inches in length. One thing he's doing, is eating his poo if I don't feed him when he wants. Should I be concerned?
While it might looks gross to us, but animals eating their own poop is a pretty normal thing. One of the reason why they do this is to re-digest that poop (because they might now fully absorb all the nutrients in it first time).
Help! I found a box turtle hit by a car! I don’t know if it can be saved or who to call and it’s Sunday! I live in south jersey Edited. I called a wildlife rehab in Mercer County. Left a message. Turtle is resting in a box.
Hi Dan, would you recommend mixing a male reeves turtle (a bit under 3 inch shell length) with something like a yellow bellied slide (about 1.5 inch shell length). Tank size is about 50 gallon but planning to get a 70+ gallon in a few months time.
Hi, I hope your having a good day but I have a possibly slow question, do all turtles have to be submerged in water and if some turtles do how long can they stay out of water?
Mine almost 4 inches i give her a couple of mealworms everyday and then i look under a couple of rocks and grab whatever worm looking things turn up i dont think shes full though because whenever i walk by her tank she go crazy and start swimming all over the place
thank you i have a turtle who is 5 years old and i fed him everyday and i noticed he's pretty fat and doesnt move as much so i am planning to feed him less now
I used the method of "as big as their head if they are hollow" to feed my adults and juvenile. Should i change to your method ?. I'm afraid if i let them do eat all you can eat style they might go overweight. I live in tropical climate so maybe that is one of the reason why they keep hungry.
⚠️ OMGG PLEASE HELP!!!!! ⚠️ I have my baby turtle in his 20 gallon tank and I found TINY BROWN WORMS in the sand and found one floating in the tank!!!! Why are they there and HOW CAN I GET RID OF THEM???? I’m terrified of worms I need them gone asap!!!!
Dan I'm a new turtle owner and have a 3 week old hatchling didn't know I needed 2 lights have them now and he has little slim on him is that normal or an issue I'm worried love this little guy
Bingo!!! And then age will determine the amount I feed. Every other day more so for over 3” animals. Sometimes I’ll do daily but smaller amounts as well. Again, I change it up!
Great and helpful video. Thank you, as always. Also, suggestions on best hand held vac for cleaning bottom of tank in between water changes? I can't seem to find one with good suction.❤
Nice video dan, after moving houses, and the turtle massacre, you are still motivated to post new and helpful videos for people to learn :)

Helppp I’ve tried doing this with my baby, putting him in and enclosed space to eat and he just frantically swims at the glass ignoring the food. :(

@@chrisc.czarnopys7618 Get a python water change system! It isn't a pump, but uses the force of water to pull a vacuum and create suction
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ Thanks much. 😊
Do they eat their own shell pieces
