I've listened to this improvisation so many times and yet it inspires me again and again:
Marle-Ouvrard is a gifted organist whose improvisations sound like carefully composed pieces.

Supremely beautiful. Le Maitre seems to channel the chromatic style and modulations of the the great Louis Vierne. I could easily believe it was a polished published work by Vierne, but I have come to see the Mssr. Marle-Ouvrard is an extraordinarily gifted and skilled performer and improviser in the French tradition. The instrument is beyond wonderful as well.

Such a beautiful acoustic. I love, for example, the way the flute reverberates at around 5:34 after he releases the note - absolutely exquisite.

Un grand improvisateur, dans la lignée des Cochereau et Pincemaille

      D'accord.

@@charlesleyes870 I'd say he is better than either of those. France has not seen an improviser with this instinctive feel for melody since Duruflé at least...

@@richardharrold9736 I wish I could be visiting St. Eustache often so I could here him and others in Paris.

@@charlesleyes870 it is just unfortunate that, like so many French improvisers, he is inconsistent and has a poor grasp of thematic development and compositional structure. This is by far his best work - his other improvisations are really not very distinguished.

@@richardharrold9736 Nevertheless, I get starved for good organ playing on such fine instruments like those in Paris.

This is by far the best of the set of three. No.1 is just a wall of noise, No.2 is at least more tonal but weak in thematic material and development. This still doesn't have much in the way of a theme to start with, but he does develop what little material he has to work with more extensively, to much more pleasing and musical result than either of the other two. The phrasing is good, there is ebb and flow here, the music has space to breathe, with excellent use of dynamics and colour to bring light and shade... now he just needs to work more on the thematic side of things.
