And this award is before Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, Hugo and Wolf of Wall Street coming out!!! Probably the best director of all time!!!!!!
Andi Berisha f
Then Silence and now The Irishman.
@Anthony Salerno Not Gangs...or The Departed. They're up to Martin's standards. Imho.
In the top five Certainly in the top ten.
A master of his craft.
@Anthony Salerno Gangs Of New York, The Aviator and The Irishman are the best ones imo after the AFI achievement award. The Departed, after all, was a remake and The Wolf Of Wall Street is what it is just thanks to DiCaprio’s terrific performance.
Martin Scorsese is greatest person that Cinema has produced in last 50 years or so.
He formed Film Foundation with other eminent Film directors of Hollywood and was responsible for preserving, reproducing some of the finest, yet forgotten films across the earth.
He's the only cool baby boomer!
The AFI rewarded Martin Scorsese with this well deserved award before the academy rewarded him with an Oscar, let that sink in.
AFI Lifetime Achievement Award > Oscars
Martin Scorsese and Gregory Peck...from one legend to another.
What a gentleman. He never bragged. He thanked those before him. So humble coming from a guy of his caliber.
What a humble and smart and beautiful speech!
Marty you're a legend!
Greatest Director Of All Time
I too feel that Martin Scorsese is the greatest director of all time. He is certainly my number one favorite director.
Yes
John Ford "the master",
@Nathaniel York Steven Spielberg Nr 1
Steven Spielberg Nr 1
he seems to be such a kind person
I love that he calls films Pictures. It always makes me think how great he is and how in love with movies he is.
Paul Klein films are pictures in motion . He's like a painter of all those pictures
I call movies films so as long as people can know the similarities and not the difference.
Wow this is good. Scorsese is truly a passionate yet a very humbled person.
Marty is a teacher I never got homework from.
Saddest. Comment. Ever.
The music from Raging Bull! Chills!
Cavalleria Rusticana
Fits him like a glove.
Dicaprio evolved as an actor is only due to association with Scorsese.
Scorsese literally guided from Romantic boy (Titanic, Catch me if you can) to winning Oscar in The Revenant
Leo was a brilliant actor long before he met Scorsese. “Growing Pains,” “This Boy’s Life,” “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” “The Basketball Diaries,” and “Marvin’s Room.”
Good point....
@@margarinetaintedgreen8140 True, but he needed to evolve further and Scorsese helped him....
@@largervoid1708 The OG post here said Scorsese’s presence was “literally” the “only reason” Leo did what any good actor does (gets better as they go from childhood to adulthood). Nonsense.
Have you ever seen his performance in “This Boy’s Life?” He was 17 when he filmed that. “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” He had just turned 18 when they filmed that.
One of the best performances I’ve seen of anybody, kid or adult.
@@margarinetaintedgreen8140 Don´t forget "basketball diaries" his acting as a junkie was FANTASTIC... but in the end he still had to mature and Scorsese was a part of his process.... OG has his opinion, I have mine and you have yours....
R.I.P Gregory Peck 🕊🕊
It makes me sad that so many of these fine actors have passed away .
Humble speech and is so inspirational
In the way he walks to receive this great award I could see a shy man overwhelmed by an importan moment in his life. He is a sensitive and humble director.
"So where do you go from there? Home". Such class and intelligence.
He was not only humble, he revealed an extraordinary nobility of soul. Of course he is an artist, and as an artist he is never really satisfied with his work. The horizon towards which he reaches is always beyond his grasp. But in this speech, this diminutive man demonstrated that he is truly a giant. Amazing.
Wonderful acceptance speech, a master himself.
At the end of movie in Saving Private Ryan, there's scene of Tom Hanks dying, where Spielberg made use of silence to bring out emotions.
This was inspired from Scorsese, who since Taxi Driver, uses silence at Important moments of movie to enhance scene emotions
You can see that most people present there are genuinely happy for him.
What a class act. Turns a personal triumph in an institutional
Sacrament. A true Priest in the best sense. Scorsese is a Film SAINT. God bless this man.
Embraces and kisses from some of the all time greats
It's not about money. Spielberg, Lucas, Cameroon has given Money Spinning movies. But Scorsese has given us films which are Encyclopedia for every aspiring moviemaker
He's certainly up there with our great Anerican directors. Also, Orson Welles, John Huston, Robert Altman, Francis Ford Coppola, Sidney Lumet, Martin Ritt, Woody Allen, to name a few.
Love the respect for Gregory Peck
Humility goes with greatness.
Peck has a great voice
a legend and i completely agree with him about film preservation as the films of the past should be protected and saved in any way possible so that those masterpieces will live forever
The night when Martin Scorsese accepted the AFI lifetime achievement award he accepted it from Gregory Peck. The night Robert DeNiro accepted the same award from Scorsese, Gregory Peck died that same day. The universe works in mysterious ways.
TheBadLiutenant De Niro even ended his speech by paying tribute to Peck
No shit......RIP
Look at Joe Pesci holding his cigar next to Bob like such a bosses. They are the characters they play.
Legend presenting a fellow legend with a legendary award.
And, Sharon looks AWESOME and beautiful. It is almost like a 30's look. :)
Best director ever...........
Genuine, Heartfelt and Grateful as only Marty can!!!🧐😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
RIP Gregory!
Robert De Niro , Joe pesci , Client Eastwood ♥️♥️♥️
Every actor who associated with Scorsese, has evolved into better actors.
There is no other better Master for acting compared to Scorsese.
Jodie Foster (The Silence of Lambs etc ), Joe Pesci (Home alone etc), Ray Liotta, William Defoe (Spiderman 1 etc), Harvey Keitel (Pulp Fiction etc), Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon, Daniel Day Lewis, Mark Ruffalo are some of gems who polished performances after associating with Scorsese
He is only rivaled by Coppola and Kazan, but Scorsese slightly wins due to his consistency.
Great speech
6:39! Cute! Both of his daughters are cute and it is cute that they are there to support their father. :)
Great acceptance speech 👍
One of the humblest guys, that makes class films
Amazing Artist.
il maestro🇮🇹🎥 sempre con il sorriso 🤩
holy shit gregory peck!!! i got goosebumps. imagine accepting an award from him. jesus!!
i love that the great ones that get this award, like scorsese, keep making masterpiece long after they get the award. soon theyll have to give him a second
Hhhhh when I saw goodfellas, the departed, walf of wall street, casino, I was thinking what man behind this sets, men this man is the master
Truly a master of his craft and an inspiration to all filmmakers after him. Truly an artist of cinema.
When people spoke like adults… MAGA 🇺🇸
I am marty's cousin, and i live in rochester. He donated a large collection of movie master copies to the george eastman house for eternal preservation. he should have gotten many more awards for his own movies himself. Raging Bull is the best movie of the 80s decade alone.
I love intermezzo from cavalleria rusticana going in the background it's so symbolic
シャロンが泣きそう。にしても美しすぎる
4:30 - that good fellas picture that they blew up looks BOSS beside the big screen!
BEST
RIP Ernest Borgnine + Gregory Peck + Don Picle + Jack Lemon
After Orson Welles, the most talented director ever produced by America.
Goddamn Genius
@ElderSword Bob is a short name that's simply given to those named Robert....I don't know how that came to be....but it just is.
Marty is a close friend with DeNiro.....so he calls him Bob.
Fucking inspirational man
@SalamiKing7,
Totally fits him.
His movies are legends.
even pacino calls him Bob
Is there any way to watch this whole award show? Or does anyone know where to find the movie montage they cut out right before Scorsese walks up to accept? No idea why they cut that out.
thumbs up if u noticed pesci lighting up while giving his standing ovation to peck
Peck was 6ft 2" (R.I.P.) and Scorsese is 5ft 4"
CoalShifter1983 No. Greg Peck is 6'3" 😊
🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤👍🏼☑️‼️
which year was this?
Did Marty dye his eyebrows?
Didn't the late Robin Williams call Marty's legendary eyebrows mating cockroaches?
If you look at the list on Wikipedia.......
Denzel Washinghton and Steve Martin are on the list
And JOE PESCI is not
WHAT A JOKE
Many men are who they are because of
Quentin tarantino and Martin Scorcese.
The Michael Jordan of filmmakers
Barry Bostwick on the left at 6:13?
is the voice is martin mouth?
essentially anyone who knows him fairly well calls him Bob....and that's a lot of people.
he's so cute :D
ONE of them.
Great Speech !! Sharon Stone looked like she wanted to cry coz he never mentioned her name lol
It's time Sylvester Stallone got an AFI Award - he deserves it!
De niro 's Great Performances have been solely associated with Scorsese. Outside Martin, Bob given only few great performances such as Heat, Silver Linings Play book, Midnight Runaway.
And what about godfather part 2, awakenings, men of honor
Godfather 2, Deer Hunter, Heat, Awakenings ? :D
7:16 scorsese is like the anti-Lucas
7:16
2:59 "Why should I even give a fuck 'bout all a dis.."

@UltimateMoviesMan although i can see why you think so .. no.. no he is not kubrik is far better and hitchcock is on the level o kubrik
Goodfellas is he's best movie
Would have made more sense playing that piece when giving the award to Francis Ford Coppola.
rsr789 It's the Raging Bull theme
HOLY SHIT. GREG PECK LOOKS LIKE BOB DE NIRO
Martin is short compared to Gregory peck
overrated by you guys. He's amazing, but he only made 4-5 masterpieces.
No great director to Spielberg who had already won it, lol..
ONE of them.
