Since we are in California and generally don’t have basements I organized a few shelves for food storage in the garage. Then, after ten years we ended up with a roof rat in there. They call them roof rats because thy run the electric wires looking for fruit trees and a good meal until it gets cold and then they want in. That rat was so much work to clean up after and he even chewed through the plastic tub I kept the dog food in. The dogs are fed inside the house. Now I have all packaged goods sealed and then put in a plastic tub. I also put peppermint oil out to deter them from coming in. Be careful, I never thought that would happen. 👍💕

I found an excellent recipe for herb rolls, that could be made as cheese rolls if you wanted, only problem was as soon as I took them from the oven, I tried one and they were too good I had to eat the rest !!

I was always going to ask you if you ever refrigerate your fresh eggs? I see them in your basket on the counter. Maybe you use them up every day?
Fresh eggs can last up to 2 weeks at room temperature, I definitely use them up in that amount of time! But once the basket is full if I haven’t used enough up that week I will wash and refrigerate them all then😊
Do you have problems with mice with all those wonderful things stored down there?
Such wonderful surplus of stuff and great during inclement weather to have stock and not have to go out.

We haven’t seen any mice in the 3 years we’ve lived here but we have several things placed out to deter mice and pests around the food 😊

Maranda, where is the rim around the jar? How is it sealed, the tomatoes.
Once the jar has been processed it is recommended to remove the ring so you can see the seal clearly in case there happens to be a false seal or if there is any leakage around the rim of the jar that way you can detect it right away. It just helps to be able to see the seal more clearly on the jar and know you don’t have any food leaking out or anything. I hope that makes sense 😊
