Hey mate, sorry I missed this comment. It's hard to say how steep the hills were! The steepest ones feel like they would be about 45 degrees but I doubt they'd be that 🤷♂️ Yeah Subaru symmetrical all wheel drive with a classic automatic and turbo works well!
Great video mate, love the Aussie bush mechanic skills well done👌 hopefully @Rallitek will help you out with some of the upgraded arms for all your efforts
Thanks mate, haha cheers it's always good when you can sort yourself out when you're in the bush! Dude! epic hill crawl....SKILLZ!! @ 7:15 ...Dope! Just bought a 09 XT ...def going to hit some trails and go on some camping adventures with it. Cheers !
Hey mate, I don't have experience with either of those things so I can't really comment on it... I have heard that raised King Springs are no good in the SH Foresters as they make the strut top out from over extending them. I run standard height HD Kings just in the rear with factory S-edition shocks all round and factory springs up front. I've found that to be a pretty good setup 👍🏻 obviously longer travel coilovers would be good for off-road but it's hard to get a balance of flex and also being able to carry all the gear you take away without the back sagging 🤷♂️ it's all a compromise so you just have to figure out what's most important to you👍🏻
Fantastic from the States!! I am currently deciding on a 2009 Forester XT w/60,000 miles in 2024. Is this car in your opinion a Keeper? This was a Great Day Already and dont feel bad about not trying the "Mountain of Rocks"! a Little to Narley for the Liking! Cheers for having the sense Not to!
Hey mate! Although they are getting a bit old now I've had mine for about 8 years so I'd say it's a keeper. I ended up going back and having a go at that section in a more recent video 👍🏻
Hey, sorry I missed this! I have seen some people use them but I don't have any experience myself. If you check out some Subaru offroad Facebook groups there's plenty of information on them👍🏻 Subaru's offroad Australia if you're in Aus or even lifted subie society. Cheers
Why is that? You don't like thumbs that bend backwards? 😂 Just joking! It's a good point! I usually keep my thumbs outside the wheel or at least on the face of the wheel and not inside but occasionally I'll put them in but only when using one hand and I'll really hang on so the wheel can't slip in my grip! Never had an issue and I've hit some good bumps while doing so👍🏻 I do agree though as a rule of thumb 😜 keep them out of the wheel👍🏻
Thanks, a 2.0 non turbo can do quite a lot but it will definitely have its limits compared to this... I think the S-edition that I have is one of the best stock setups for offroad in a Subaru with the 5eat it has a VTD center and being a traditional automatic paired with a good amount of turbo power it works really well!
Hey man, was wondering if you could tell me if you (or your mechanic) has any expectations on how long you could expect your XT engine to last for when subjecting it to this kind of use? Just bought one with 160K, and am interested to know what this kind of action does to the longevity
Hey mate, I'm at 152k roughly but it's been modified and dyno tuned since around the 25k mark... So far no engine issues at all! I have been through 2 rear diffs and 2 centre diff though 🤷♂️🚙💨 probably mostly because of the driver though 🤙🏻
Hello , I have an 2.0x manual with dual range and planning to buy an s edition with 5 at, does this gearbox suffers much in off-road, slow speed over rocky steep soils?
Nice one, in my opinion the S-edition is one of the best Subaru drivetrains available for offroad use. It's not dual range but being a true automatic with torque converter and turbo combination it works really well! Even better if you get it tuned with a few mods👍🏻
It's a full turbo back exhaust, it's made up of an Invidia dump pipe with a Hi-Tech Mufflers cat back and I've had the y pipe custom made to suit the lift 👍🏻
Hey mate, these wheels are aluminium so they're reasonably light weight however with the bigger and heavier mud tyres the wheel and tyre combo is about 30kg which is quite a bit heavier than the stock setup so it is noticeable.
Great video Monty. I've got a xt premium my2010 and I've been researching a lot. All roads lead to similar setup to yours, I'd be happy if I could do that type of stuff. The creek crossings ability are still bit of unknown. What's your thoughts on that?
Thanks mate, I appreciate it! Can't go wrong with a turbo Foz! Although I might be slightly biased... I've got a full snorkel and airbox now but I still haven't done a lot of water crossings so I'm still to find out the comfort level for my car but I think 700mm is probably close the the limit before you'll start floating the rear of the car. Cheers
@@MontyScottMonty, thanks for taking the time to reply, will take that into consideration. I just had one more question come to mind. I was watching a couple of guys say that even though the lifted foresters are great they are just limited by not having low range. Hi, glad to see you posting a vid again. Got a question for you. I am considering buying either 2011 S-Edition or 2009 2.0 XT, any issues with EJ255 engine of yours? Any head gasket/Ringland/Bearing failures while you had your Forester? Thanks - From Auckland NZ
Hey Kevin, I’ve got a 2009 2.0XT. If you can afford the S-Edition I’d go for it. Everything is upgraded in comparison. While I love my wagon I am envious of the extra power and better traction control system.
Thanks mate, I haven't had any issues with my engine and it's done about 150k with about 125k of that being modified and tuned running more power and torque than stock with a driver that gives it a hard time on the regular 🚙💨
The Subaru EJ255 engine is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that has been used in various Subaru models, including the Forester. While it's a capable and popular engine, there have been some well-documented issues with it, including: Head Gasket Failures: The EJ255 engine is known for head gasket issues. Over time, the head gaskets can fail, leading to coolant and oil leaks. This issue is not exclusive to the EJ255 engine, as many Subaru engines have been affected by head gasket problems. It's essential to check the vehicle's maintenance history and see if the head gaskets have been replaced or repaired. Ringland Failures: Some EJ255 engines are susceptible to ringland failures, which can cause compression and performance issues. This is more common in vehicles that have been heavily modified or pushed to high levels of boost. If you plan to modify the car for increased performance, you should be aware of this potential issue. Bearing Failures: Like any engine, bearing failures can occur if the engine is not properly maintained or if it's subjected to harsh driving conditions. Regular oil changes and proper maintenance are crucial for preventing bearing issues.
