To smooth out your normal/height maps before you use them for anything, first take them into photoshop/Gimp/whatever and apply a gentle gaussian blur. You'll find that you don't need smooth modifiers after your sculpting, etc, anymore. What the blur does is create a more natural and gradual transition on all the edges so that the effect doesn't go from 0 (black) to 1 (white) quite as abruptly as before. It's computationally less intensive to fix the maps before you use them in Blender.
Thanks Max, It really helps for making cool stuff without being limited to textures available on internet and websites and Also this way of making Normal and Height map is amazing, Lots of 3d artists and me are always struggling making them by help of Photoshop or other software or websites. Thank you for great Tutorial and content like always 👍
we have spoke on twitter before here and there i use this all the time plus materialize in a workflow with Midjourney more need to be open about this stuff as alot of it is CCO plus makes art much better when we make it more then just a png and into something so much more love ya work and how you don't seem to have a ego keep up the great work man!
Hi! Deepbump isnt appearing on my sidebar. Ive installed it like my other addons to blender. also tried running blender as an administrator, still nothing. im using blender 3.3. what version of blender are you using also do you have any tips for making the addon appear on the sidebar?
if you color ramp the image before the node you should be able to deal with just black and white images, a little noise and then as someone else suggested, throw it in gimp and add some gausian blur. then use the original image as the texture and the new image as the displacement.
Does anyone know if there is DEEPBUMP for MacOS and or ARM operating systems? i used the link and it didnt work for me could install the addon but after that it never showed up and when i cklicked it oevr seacrh properties in Blender it said Pyth traceback not found? anyone having the same or similar issues.

Is midjourney able to produce a hight map on its own based on a picture that you give it? The potential for creating Bas Reliefs for CnC carving would be ground breaking.
I like what this add-on provides, but there's no way I'm installing a Microsoft telemetry enabled add-on for normal map generation when there's many great alternatives. "The software may collect information about you and your use of the software and send it to Microsoft."

Hi Max-. Very great video. Can you explain. WHen you safe the normal map as png in non-color space. It looks and works different than the generated. It is much darker. Why is that? And what kind of normal map is safed exactly.
I can't seem to install the dependencies for the Deepbump addon. I downloaded the .zip file from the link in the description and uploaded it inside blender, but each time I try to install the dependencies it gives me an error. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
@@maxhayart i have the same issue except: Does anyone know if there is DEEPBUMP for MacOS and or ARM operating systems?could that be the reason for not working, i used the link and it didnt work for me could install the addon but after that it never showed up and when i cklicked it oevr seacrh properties in Blender it said Pyth traceback not found? anyone having the same or similar issues.
I have tried this twice with two different images and for whatever reason all my heightmap does is push the center of my plane up and push the rest down, creating like an arrow shape. Not sure what I am doing wrong...
It would be a game changer so cool. I love this positive approach towards technology instead of whining about AI like a boomer from the 50s "we are real painterssss, aiii is not artttt ueee ueeee". Conservativism in art is pretty repulsive, even more if our pipeline already consists of a massive use of softwares.
I think this would mess up the normals since it converts it to black/white, but you could totally fix it in photoshop before converting it to a normal map.
Hey what a good informative video, I loved the workflow this has and the results it yields, thanks for sharing ;) Btw, about the noise displacement for the shield. Could a displacement modifier do the trick?
Thank you for this video. Really useful information. The ice or crystal bunch in the scene looked very cool. Can you make tutorial about how to create or if you can't explain abit how to create that cool crystals please, or can you share the crystal file please.
Muchas gracias Max por el video me sirvió mucho estoy aprendiendo y este video esta muy genial, no se si puedes hacer mas de estos videos con esta técnica
That's seems so Easy! Can you make a tutorial creating an Alien, slimy, grease, and packed with eyes object or wall with Ai and Blender?? Thanks you! I really love your video!

for heightmap displacements, its good to use a smooth corrective modifier to help remove the spikiness of the displacement
This is what I was waiting for, thank you!

congrats on 40k subs!!!
There's also other free programs like materialize where you can fine tune creating a height map/normal map from an image and edit the result quickly.

This is going to make building detail so much easier (decorative elements)
What an excellent addon for making my building models! Makes doing brickwork easy. Cheers mate.👍
Thank you for recommending such a useful plugin. It has been a huge help for my work!

You can use a upscale ai to get a sharper image

when i try to install it just says it installed but nothing shows up. ive never had an issue installing a plugin before

That could make an amazing viking type shield :O
you could apply the normal map tot he mesh with displacement and then sculpt it to fix the errors and then bake a new normal map
Damn i saw your last video and was wondering if you can generate normal and height maps using images and, this video today totally read my mind
Love your vids man

Can you suggest some alternate addon?

What if you add a bump node to the deepbump setup
it'd be neat if you used the color map as a mask for rust on edges or something like that
good job.. good use of both technologies

interesting! A video covering lighting would be amazing!
very helpful Max thank you

Try running blender as an administrator

Can you share your blender startup like render settings, scene positions etc.

wonder if it can generate trim sheets🧐

whats the bottom window where you can see the finale render view called. The bottom
right corner.
Can you then 3d-print your creations?
I was wondering the same
Great video. How do you get the camera preview thing in the bottom right corner?
Yeah this is gonna blow up
Thank you so much , really helpful , im sure ill learn a lot from this channel your contents really amazing , keep it up 😉.
I install this add-on but not visible in shader editor. Please help!
If you drop in a color ramp, you could probably fix the weird warping caused by what appears to be a not fully black background.
I think this would mess up the normals since it converts it to black/white, but you could totally fix it in photoshop before converting it to a normal map.
Can those normal maps be converted into geometry in Blender?...and if so how?

Why run a plugin as a administrator?

Oh snap! That’s cool!
I’m exploring other possibilities with stable diffusion, and blender. The possibilities are endless.
That's seems so Easy! Can you make a tutorial creating an Alien, slimy, grease, and packed with eyes object or wall with Ai and Blender?? Thanks you! I really love your video!
It was helpful, thanks🤙
give your default startup blender UI bro
The add-on does not work and is not supported. The author simply disappeared.
Thanks for Sharing It!
128 views! in before 100k! this looks swell!
How did you make that crystal?
Fantastic tutorial and there's even more tips and tricks in the comments. That's an easy Subscribe for me!
You chose a "round" image and asked it to "tile" . Tiles are square. So, it' snot tiling weird. Just slow down and think.
thanks for sharing!!!
You're grate always teaching ❤️
woohoo!
Link to your Discord server?
Nice
why illuminati patterns Max, Why 🤣🤣
first xd
You just "had" to use satanist illuminati symbolism in your art yes? 😡
The rest of the things in the world just dont exist for inspiration, yeah?
lmao imagine getting triggered over nothing
