@Rosie You are totally wrong. It wasn't advertised as unsinkable, but for general public she got this aura, when Olympic collided with RN cruiser and had only minor damage. And movie only brought it to attention of younger generations.
It went perfectly. They were NOT trying to prove the ships could withstand a nuke. They put the ships there to see how much damage a nuke would do to them. Also, the ships were destroyed by the blast, not by radiation.
Exactly they did the same in the desert tests as well. My grandfather saw one. He was three miles out in a trench. He said there were guys closer that didn't make it.
@@username9159 they weren’t killed in those test blasts…nobody was. @@username9159 No, I'm not saying the army never lies. I'm saying that no one was directly killed in any of the nuclear test blasts in the postwar period. This is not my opinion; it is known. These tests were all filmed from multiple angles, locations, and distances, carefully measured and documented, and have been declassified for decades. They were all controlled detonations in controlled space. What you may be thinking of were the efforts of the soldiers who were exposed to radiation by "storming the beaches" following a couple of the blasts efforts to get the US Government to acknowledge that those experiments made them sick years later. "and the extreme radiation destroyed the other ships"
thats... not how that works
That's what I said. It was the blast wave.
Dumbass video
Basically just destroying their purpose because anyone goes near them would get radiation poisoning
yea 9 ships survived
Nah man, they got really sick and died... I mean sank days later from radiation poisoning
And that kids, that is how Godzilla was awaken.
They were not trying to prove their shops could survive. They knew they couldn't. They simply wanted to study the effects.
True🎉
Yeah, it’s obvious their ships wouldn’t have survived. This guy was just trying to give the US a bad image.
That’s what I was thinking. No one in their right mind would think that any ship could survive a nuclear blast.
Thank you. It's like saying the Alamo test was to prove the durability of 1940's American housing design. I actually laughed.

@@Taylor.Dude. facts we do wanna join
Some of the soldiers who stormed the area following the blast were exposed to significant levels of radiation, and died from cancers years later. That’s actually part of what they were testing: if soldiers could perform in that environment.
@@jamesw1659 look bro that just what my grandfather told me. He said there was a group of guys in vehicles close to ground zero that didn't make it out.
And considering my grandfather spent years (he was in his 60s when they finally released the files). trying to get the army to admit that a. The tests did happen. B. He was there.
😂 Basically you're saying the army never lies. Okay kid thanks.
They were ultimately forced to acknowledge that they bore the responsibility for exposing them.
Wasn't this called Operation Hardtac?
They really underestimated how powerful nukes are

If anyone is wondering, they set it off in the middle of Bikini Atoll, one of the U.S's Minor Outlying Islands.
spongebob’s show got blown outta the water
They weren't trying to prove their ships could survive, they wanted to know how much damage would be done if a nuke was used against naval targets, whether they were their own or an enemy vessel.
Exactly they knew that nothing would stand a chance lol
Thanks for clarifying. Were all the personnel taken off the ships first?
@@jacobharrison2945yes it was just test conducted to see how nukes would turn the tide in a naval battle all residents of the atoll and crew were evacuated
Also the ships were decommissioned warships, some were confiscated from the Japanese and Nazi armies after WW2
@@jacobharrison2945 yes, no one was on those ships they were decommissioned war ships, confiscated from the Japanese and german armies after WW2, some were allied ships that were damaged, there were some cases however where experiments were conducted at sea with ships nearby with personnel onboard this was in the early stages though so not much was known on the destructive nature of nukes, afterwards these troops were made to sweep radioactive material from the ships scientists advised the military that it was dangerous but the army didn’t listen some of those men subsequently became Ill and eventually died due to health complications, forgot the documentary I watched it on, apparently the scientists shared his concerns with the army but they decided to keep it quite from the men as to exactly how toxic radiation was.
Not only not caring about contaminating the ocean but also jeopardizing the possibility of actually creating a real life Kaiju from all that radiation and sea life

🤦🏻♂️
'In a Gomer Pyle voice' "Well my Cammander Sayd I could wash away the radiation by hosing it off. Then Why is it still clicking loudly?" Oh yeah I recall that. Tried to wash off the radiation from the ships... with the irradiated water. ANd the navy thought they were going to be able to take these ships on a grand 'world tour' for PR lol.
Facts, most of the ships were damaged beyond repair but more than half didn’t sink allowing the Navy to run more test
@@BustaCap he was right tho. The remaining radiation destroyed the ships (aka made them unusable due to high radiation levels)
the thermal energy destroys, not the radiation. Radiation contaminates.
