Thank you for giving us this valuable exposure and choice, through many of your videos and explanations, I have seen and read today by MBSR Palouse Mindfulness.
I forget which KabatZinn videos I've watched, so i must comment just to let myself know in a few years that yes, I've seen this one and I should check out something I haven't yet seen. Also, great upload, thanks.
vipassana is a great tool too explore - no cult, religion or dogma. my partner had a flare up of psoriasis and he used meditation and yoga to control and finally get rid of it. he was dealing with alot of stress
now in (almost) 2021 I wonder how this video would be updated - stats, graphs and knowledgeses. I recently emailed Jon, and asked him a question and he came out pretty strong against the "stink of buddhism". Which is fine, Im atheist - but I wonder if he credits the founders of meditation, as it was, to what it is....? he seems to have a healthy respect here for Buddhism and the monks. But, his last answer to the last question is, as another comment comments "epic".
This is beautiful! I really enjoy mindfulness. 👐 With my mindfulness meditating I have been watching quite a bit of #sriavinashdo recently. I find his meditation talks so beautiful and helpful for my life. 🤲❤️
I am a neuroscientist who has recently started to try to learn mindfullness in private life. I really like it so far and think I am going to continue. However, from a scientific standpoint I am very unconvinced by this talk. A couple of times he used sciency sounding buzzwords (orthogonal, quantum, poisson distribution,... ) where they did not make much sense or were even wrong. For someone who understands what those words actually mean this seemed like an attempt to sound more competent than you actually are. Also, name-dropping seemed to take up quite a large portion of the talk. A few of the scientific studies he presented also contained some red flags to any critical scientist. I am not saying that all he said is bogus. Some of the results seemed to be promising. I just wanted to let people who aren't scientists know that this is very far from a convincing scientific talk.
Some specific examples I still remembered after the end of the talk: 49:50 If you have SUCH a big difference between your control group and meditation group BEFORE the treatment (he says "before randomization", but you have to do the randomization before you do the treatment, so time 1 should be before the treatment) I do not trust any of the differences after the treatment. He mentions that they are not significantly different at time 1, but any statistician would tell you thi 51:01 this is far from a convincing correlation. Yes, it might be significant, but you always have to check the shape of the scatter plot (also to check for non-linear relationships) and not just rely on the p-value. In this case, the whole correlation seems to be caused by one so-called "influential point" at the bottom left. If you take that one point out you probably don't find any significant correlation. This is a red flag which should make you skeptical of all the conclusions which are only based only on this scatter plot. 54:05 According to the graph, the treatment was successful for all patients in both groups. The patients listening to the tape got there faster, but it did not change the outcome of the therapy. It is still interesting that mindfullness had this effect. For me, it would have been enough if playing the tape made the experience of the treatment less unpleasent for the patients. However, he seemed to overstate the difference between the groups and was not as forthcoming about what the effect was and was not. Again, I'm not saying that all results he presented are untrustworthy, but that I found enough scientific warning signs to make me very skeptical about his conclusions.

thank you so mach!
Not knowing the power of our own mind through awareness we are going to fall down the ladder of evolution as Buddha mentioned.
Just FANTASTIIIICCCCCCC!!!
1:06:24 to end: Very important point! : )
So powerful💛

Stress in 2007? What stress 😌
Is it me, or is he rambling about nothing. This video was recommended by my MBSR class, and I’m confused as to why.
Надо погуглить, кто это

I appreciate your rigor very much. Please consider looking at the book altered traits, by Daniel goleman and Richard Davidson.
Don't need a WHY to meditate -- was looking at HOW to meditate. VERY disappointed!!!
Be like a rock! Sit and Stay! Don't let the mind get in the way.
@@whew_ great way to put it
