I loved her in Song of Bernadette. I never tire of that movie.
She won that role because she was the only auditioning actress who looked as if she was seeing the Blessed Mother (Linda Darnell).
@@jmj5388 I read that too & thought it was impressive. I can't imagine anyone else in that role.
Me too
Pluviophile: I dont either. At least 300 times that I have seen that film and now they have it in color here on youtube. But I feel sorry for her tragedies. Probably looking back, she would have made different decisions. Like everybody, I guess
Same here! Perfect for that part. Sorry she had a tragic life.
She was soo....beautiful when young...and a good actress.
Jennifer Jones was one of the most attractive actress. She was extraordinary as Han Suyin in Love Is A Many-Splendoured Thing
Jennifer jones had a sort of ethereal quality and child like innocence…I loved her in “portrait of Jennie”
That's such a wonderful, warm-hearted mystery "Since You Went Away" is undervalued, with its many fine performers. I hope I can catch up on viewing the older semi-masterpieces in the next life.
Duel In the Sun showed she can exude sex appeal. I can say that she BECOMES the character in a way few of her peers could. She can convince you just by body language and manner of speech alone that she was a half Native or half Asian woman.
I loved her on "Duel in the Sun", great actress 😢.
She was my favorite actress . If I would have had a daughter I would have named her Jennifer ❤
I just love her movies and she was one of the true beauties of all time.
Loved her in LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING
No no
Well done. Informative and interesting. Jones had many losses. Glad to hear she created a foundation to help with mental health. Sadly today the foundation is still needed and helps countless people. Peace to Jennifer. ❤❤❤
Song of Bernadette is a movie that would never be made today. It is a treasure.
they have made many remakes, in France, in Spain. But nothing comes close to the original version with Jennifer
One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen...absolutely gorgeous
I liked her in Madame Bovary and as a child in song of Bernadette
Yes, of all her films I like Madame Bovary the best.🌹
Jennifer had an ethereal quality that never left her. I love "Indiscretion of an American Wife" with Montgomery Clift. So much felt beyond the dialogue. A time in cinema when real and aut5hentic mystery and chemistry existed in actors and actresses.
What a terrific actress, my favourite films are Duel in the Sun and Gone to Earth (filmed in the Shropshire hills).
oh yes, Gone to Earth is such a wonderful film of Emmeric and Pressburger, a great story and so poetic. An alltime classic
I loved her in “Love is a Many Splendored Thing”.
I loved her in A Portrait of Jenny.
Beautiful actress & face 😊
Best Jennifer Jones movie ever is Good Morning Miss Dove. Not a single mention of it here.
I loved her portrayal as bernadette soubirous excellent & heartwarming performance I cried while watching it 😢😢😢😢😢
I can't believe you didn't mention Madame Bovary!!!
Absolutely! 🌹
How could you leave out “A Farewell to Arms”?
Carmine Auditore: It was easy because it’s not a very good remake and unfortunately part of the reason is her. She’s stiff and slightly too old. Her husband, David O. Selznick pushed her into projects that weren’t always the best for her. I know she bought the rights to TRRMS OF ENDEARMENT but was considered too old and project was developed with Shirley MacLaine who was excellent.
She was wonderful in "A Farewell to Arms". I will never understand why the film was not successful and smashed by the reviewers.
@@johnpickford4222 O Selznick pigeon holed her to romantic parts when her talent was so much more.
Sally Kellerman wrote her memoirs. Kellerman valued her friendship with Jennifer Jones.
Karenklehm: oh I did not know that. Is there a book out to buy ?
@@brittalbach416 Read My Lips by Sally Kellerman. It's an easy read.
IMO, there are only two films in which J. J. proves she was one of the greatest actress to ever grace the silver screen: Since You Went Away and Love is a Many Splendored Thing.
My favorite was Love Letter with Joseph Cotten, screenplay by Ayn Rand
absolutely and you can never find Love Letters anywhere nowadays
Song of Bernadette my favorite movie
Love ur speaking voice.
Deserved the Oscar for THE SONG OF BERNADETTE
She and Jean Simmons my fav actresses.
I did some work for her in her later years when she was married to Norton Simon…she was still beautiful then.
Was she still insecure and shy?
@@chrischris4028 yes, very. But she had been made Chairman of the Board of the Museum by Mr. Simon so she had to pull herself together and take care of business…which she did.
@@sj8205 Thank you! Some people say, she was cool and mean. I do not think so.
@@chgem.2658 She was always very kind and pleasant with me. I worked at the Norton Simon Museum, but I worked with JJS on the Jennifer Jones Simon Foundation for Mental Health and Education. That was an endeavor close to her heart, as she lost her daughter to suicide.
she starred in the towering inferno in the 70's
Awesome 😎
She was shy, insecure, clumsy and strong. A perfect combination for her role as Bernadette. I can only imagine Audrey Hepburn as an equal Bernadette. I wish, Jennifer would have done more comedy. She had perfecr timing, but because of her beauty she often was cast in sexy roles like Duel in the sun or Ruby Gentry.
I thought she was a very good actress.
Jennifer Jones also had a reputation in Hollywood for being very high strung, insecure and unreliable.
I never knew Jennifer miscarried. I think both of hers sons have passed away as well. Robert Jr. passed away in 2021 I believe.
But it appears Rob Jr. had SEVEN children, so Jones herself had a lot of grandchildren.
Guillian-Barre Syndrome doesn't always progress. People have gotten better, or @ least maintained their activity level.
I remember reading that she would have a party but make only a perfunctory appearance, then disappear to her freezing bedroom to sleep. Then another appearance looking fresher than her guests, by then bloated and drunk, and disheveled.
@neildickson5394 Complete with a change of gown and hairstyle, and fresh makeup!
Ruby Gentry is on UA-cam, tho under the title Gentry's Widow. Pretty good movie.
It's not pronounced "Toolsa" but "Tull-sa"
If only she could have made it to Hollywood 2 years earlier , she could’ve played Scarlet O’Hara ( she would only have been like 19 )
ジェニファージョーンズ終着駅 最高です
With The Towering Inferno, Jones proved she can continue on with more "mature" parts, but unfortunately, she appeared to be age obsessed and let it got to her when she was told she was too old for Terms of Endearment. We were robbed of many could've been performances from her.
I dunno... she was a good actress if given the right role. I don't know about all the 'personal' accolades.
If that's the definition of Troubled and Tragic, you should do a video of my Aunt Celice. She attracted an already married man. Celice was troubled by continuing the relationship, but the Universe told Celice it was True Love. He divorced his wife and married Celice. After 7 months she was pregnant. Then her husband left her for another True Love. Now Celice lives in a rundown studio in Cleveland, her son troubled and violent.
This video is fairly good but you seem to have missed a decade out of Jones life making it seems as if Tender is the Night was quite early in her career instead of near the end
"AGING SUCKS!" _ Joan Rivers
Considering what a lousy mother Shirley McClaine actually and really was; the producers should have cast Jennifer Jones.
Shirley MacLaine was very good as a defender and encouragement of her daughter in the film and was livelier than Jones would have been.
@John Pickford She's a fraud.
Her daughter actually wants to take care of her in her old age . .
Whatever McClain managed to do right; she'd better start appreciating it.
@@johnpickford4222 true too
Selznick was a real cad. Robert Walker drank himself to death over Selsnick stealing his wife and she was no angel either!
This video sounds like a studio publicity bio.
@@Me-mn4nw She was not older than Walker or certainly Selznick!
@@angelorollo3350 My apologies I pulled up the wrong reference. Anyway, nobody is responsible for someone's self-destructive behavior.
Which Janffer Jones married Bollywood actor
Tool-sah....😅
what a sense of humor. a real yuck yuck
so she dumped poor robert walker for selznick.. i wonder why? anything to do with money, you suppose. hmm.i wonder?
He was a drinker. Living with a drunk is tough. My step grandma was a misery to tolerate
daniel stanwyck: hmm, I wonder why you imply something but don’t have the b**ls to state it. Hmm I wonder why? Hmm?
Selznick overpowered her. That sort of thing was common in Old Hollywood. Robert Walker was devastated by his divorce and died young.
Jennifer could have said no, and told him to leave her alone. She was impressed with his power. The nice thing was she never turned their kids against their dad. I read she was devastated by his death. Probably felt a lot of regret.
I read Judy and Ava Gardner comforted him as a friend.
After the way JENNIFER JONES treated ROBERT WALKER to advance her career and she ending up with only SELNIZK shows GOD doesn't like greed
she regretted that later in life, she loved Robert Walker and felt really guilty because leaving your husband is one thing but then taking the sons with her was the end of their beautiful little family.
After David passed and I guess after Mary Jennifers suicide, Jennifer herself attempted to kill herself and had checked into a motel using the name Phyllis Walker
You don't know what The Hell you're talking about !
It would be hilarious if it wasn’t frankly disturbing how weird people obsesses over and hold resentment for celebrities they have never met and never will meet, sometimes deceased ones. Absolutely bizarre.
She didn’t leave you, my guy.
She drank heavily as she got older
who dont
Good I don't feel sorry for her
Because you’re an uncle grandpa weirdo that’s obsessing over a dead actress that you’ve never met ?
I couldn’t stand her acting. Give me Audrey Hepburn and Kate Hepburn any day of the week, now THEY could act!
