I love that intro shot, that is also the cover of Heater's book "The Cutting Edge", that's some great art photography. I never realised the RIO has a handle to hang onto in front of him in the back seat of the F-14! Already enjoying this show in the first few minutes and I learnt something straight up about the Tomcat RIO cockpit.
Well, do me a favor and share it. I want everybody to enjoy it that is able, I don’t put commercials in my shows or monetize my channel because I just want people to enjoy it.
Great interview. Finally got to hear from 'Heater'. Too bad I missed it and could not ask him questions. Could have asked him lots of great Tomcat questions.
This is a blast Taco. I got The Cutting Edge back in 1992 but mine sure as heck isn't signed by Heater! One thing though - there are multiple references to a previous chat between you two, but scrolling back through your channel I can find no sign of it. Was it removed? EDIT: Oh wait a minute ... I just got to the end and you said something to the effect that you'll post part 2 next week but you'd already recorded it - so the discussion Heater is referring to throughout this chat as things you talked about "earlier" is actually in Part 2 with Heater?
@@talltaleswithtacobell You bet I did Taco, I was just thrown by the recording order being different from the release order. I'm sure you had a good reason to post them that way though, and I dug the heck out of both episodes, so no complaints here. I'm stoked I found you - I thought I knew all the military aviation channels but somehow had missed yours until Jello from The Fighter Pilot Podcast mentioned you. I already have a bunch more of your eps lined up in my playlist.
Great interview! I’m glad I got to meet Heater at Top Gun Days and see your interviews with him. I had a pre-conceived notion about him prior to actually meeting him that was all wrong. When he was in Top Gun, he had the Marlboro Man/“porn stache” look going, and based on some of the arrogant/self-absorbed instructors I dealt with as a student in the VTs in the late 80s/early 90s, I thought “I know the type!” But, he’s really changed my mind about all that. I think it would have really been a meaningful experience flying against him as an aggressor. It sounds like he took a lot of painstaking time and effort to ensure that the fighter pilots of his era “got it right” and really learned how to dogfight. It would have been an honor learning from him. He’s a great American!
@@talltaleswithtacobell I am also trying to become the farthest fan having watched the show live 😀 but it's not easy to stay awake until 2 a.m. hun time with work next day
Mitch, your volume is incredibly low compared to his. Please raise your volume some so I'm not turning you way up then turning him way down every time y'all speak.
Heater is cool of cool! 😎 Always has great interviews and well informative with great information! A legend!
Legend for sure!!! Thanks for watching. Semper Fi Taco

He would’ve been absolutely the best damn C.O. I had ever served under, that is the type of officer you would jump off a cliff for! Semper Fi Taco
Thanks very much for the great interview looking forward to the next episode.
Well, you come close to winning absolute farthest fan award? Thanks for checking it out! Semper Fi Taco

Awesome interview.
Heater reminds me of Scott Glenn, looks and voice.
I agree! A really humble guy to be around
Awesome interview, Thanks for posting!👍🏼✈️💯💥
Well, I appreciate your time watching it
New England air museum has an f14 on display,
Real star of Top Gun is the F-14
Yep.
F-14 wing span was times that of any other fighter. You had a lot of G’s in order to come around.

That might’ve been when it switch back to the audio from the camera and not my head, Mike. Thanks for the heads up.
