P-40 taking a WW2 fighter pilot for a ride
Переглядів 4521 день тому
Col Dick Heyman flew the P-38 in WW2 before switching over to the P-51. In Korea he flew the A-26 and had an air to air kill in that. During Vietnam, he did two tours flying the F-105 there. He has experienced everything from props to Jet fighters. Incredible warrior!! He is in the back seat of this P-40 about to take a ride.

A lovely film. Thank you.
As a pilot with over 35 years of experience flying both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft and with a background in aerial photography the PBY Catalina in my opinion is an iconic aircraft of great beauty and elegance and this video was masterfully produced with skilled perspectives and a hypnotic score. Great job!
Awesome. Strawberry 5!
Paco is a chill guy, great interview (he reminds me of "Iceman" but way less arrogant!). Just on Spitfire's and Paco's Yak-50 at the 39:10 min mark. At that angle it did look like a Spitfire. But if you see an Yak-50 form side on the massive nose gives away its radial engine, Spitfire has a Rolls-Royce Merlin V-12, so a more slender nose. (But you can't see the nose from Paco's Yak-50 pic you showed facing rear to frontwards). I think the Yak-50 is like a stunt plane, it was never a fighter. The MiG-1 and MiG-3 were the "Spitfire" copies. The Soviets got real Spitfires under lend lease I think, so MiG's first fighters were copies of them AFAIK. I moved to Ukraine a decade ago (Ukrainian wife) and I have visited pretty much well all the old air museums here with Soviet planes & jets (that stopped in 2022 with the invasion), so I am familiar with most of these Soviet types. The first time I saw a MiG-25 Foxbat, up close it blew my mind, knowing during the cold war you were not getting anywhere near one as a regular civilian. Paco's got the Yak-50 for air support, you have the tanks! Classic!!!
I would definitely love to own one of those as they are really super sweet. A T 28 would be pretty awesome too. That is all the power of a World War II fighter. You know what I would like to do is go look for lost tanks in the bog or downed airplanes over there in Russia but I doubt we could do that anytime soon. Thanks again for watching and hopefully I have a subscriber out of you :-) Semper Fi Taco
how can you support a president who said John McCain was not a hero because he got shot down & captured?
I didn’t vote for McCain in 08. That being said I don’t agree with everything Trump has said but I’ll take him any day and twice on Sunday over Biden/Harris and every other far left group out there.
I love that intro shot, that is also the cover of Heater's book "The Cutting Edge", that's some great art photography. I never realised the RIO has a handle to hang onto in front of him in the back seat of the F-14! Already enjoying this show in the first few minutes and I learnt something straight up about the Tomcat RIO cockpit.
Well, do me a favor and share it. I want everybody to enjoy it that is able, I don’t put commercials in my shows or monetize my channel because I just want people to enjoy it.
@@talltaleswithtacobell My pleasure Mitch, I'll try my best. I'll be binge watching a bunch of your shows.
Mr Kunkle is a legend, retired F-14 Tomcat RIO Ward Carroll interviewed him for 40 mins about half a year ago. Search for this title if you are interested -----> Badass 101-Year-Old P-38 Pilot’s Amazing Stories of the Air War Over Europe
I only just discovered this chan, I've been watching a lot of Constant Peg vid's and the algorithm fed me this one. I also love callsign origin stories and just like if your surname is Campbell, you are automatically "soup", I am guessing if your surname is Bell you are automatically "Taco"! Great interview Mitch. Much appreciated. I think those secret USAF astronauts you mentioned near the end of the show were going to fly in something called the MOL (Manned Orbiting Laboratory) mated to the Gemini on a Titan IIIC rocket. The MOL was cancelled during Project Gemini.
Hey, thanks for joining and I love it when I get feedback like this! A buddy of mine was tinker Bell and they called him Tink for short. You are right about the MOL Project and if you Google Dick lawyer, his bio will come up.
Hell ya
She flew over my house
I know this man I flew on the Catalina
He is the highest time non pilot in the PBY!! :-) love Coy
@ Coy gave me and some other guys a tour of his place awhile back
i read Chickenhawk a long time ago and i am reading it again now it is an incredible account of the Vietnam War and the way it is written is like you are there in the midst of what is going on...and as i am sure many others have said it should be a Film ...
I assembled a model when I was seven living in Uganda, great time.
That is such an amazingly beautiful airplane, I've always liked them.
You got fucked up by the Iraqi resistance
I like the way you think!! Semper Fi Taco
We need a Top Gun prequel. 'Top Gun - Viper ' . Telling the story about Viper and Duke Mitchell. The original movie clearly explains they flew F4s. The F4 Phantom is long retired form the Navy, however there are privately owned flying examples. Tom Cruise could be in the start of the movie , thinking about or talking about his Dad, and then the film goes into the past to tell the story.
A beautiful angel for saving sailors. What a piece of history.
You fought for keeping Israel safe
Thanks Taco for the great interview. I first read Chickenhawk in the early 80's and then again a few years later. It's such a great read that I've given copies to friends as gifts for years. And also "Back in the World" has recently traversed my desk. Robert Mason is an idol of mine because he has confidence, imagination and balls! I'll give high marks to Miss Patience as well. Like others I've often wondered why this hasn't made it to the screen. While it would be a big production in film it would be so valuable manifoldly. All the best!
Get some!
This is great stuff! Thanks for your service guys!
Thank you, Gentlemen
Thank you, Gentlemen
I never understood that some people consider the Catalinas ugly. I have always loved them.
Great interview. Thank you, Gentlemen.
Love this. “Heater” should be there. Then it would be perfect.
Great book, respect to all those Vietnam vets from the Uk 🇬🇧
Sledgehammer was a guest speaker at my high school, Marion Institute, where he graduated.
Esse avião é fantástico! ❤
Man I wish I would have seen this. The book was tremendously influential in my life and career.
Tonight I welcome Gerald which flew this plane for this travel. In the film at 11:45 you see him on the photo on the right. So Nice guy that explained us the travel, so passionate guy and so interesting to hear. Really amazing story
Je en train de travailler et je tombe sur cette vidéo... Wow... pendant 10 minutes, j'étais ailleurs ! J'ai l'impression d'avoir voyagé depuis mon fauteuil, merci :)
Coolest airplane ever. We should still be using something like it for water rescue.
I’m so glad you did this interview with Taco! So intense to hear these important stories told! So many details that must not be forgotten!

F-14 wing span was times that of any other fighter. You had a lot of G’s in order to come around.
Worthwhile talk when it comes to Area-51 procedure and Soviet design and assembly quality. Evaluating the planes for their intended interceptor missions could have been elaborated upon - basically what he told pilots to expect and to watch out for - as that would enable some assessment of Soviet '3rd generation' air defense capability.
AMAZING how American fighter pilots don't know their adversaries!?
Most came from Egypt
I thought i would let you know Jim was Great Uncle and sadly he passed away last week. He was an amazing man and had amazing stories. He was able to celebrate his 100th Birthday earlier this year a few months before he passed away. Thank you for telling the world his story of his time during WW2.
Mooch too!
Heater and Taco - Legends!

My father, Stan Kirby, was a crew member on a PBY in the Aleutian Islands during WW2. Thank you dad. Love and miss you every day.
