As a music producer myself i know why you like the pitched up version .. especially when our ears get so used to sampling vocals but her voice's great .. she deserves an original .. then later pitch a remixed version of that .. i'd enjoy both .. but she deserves an original with her natural voice first ..

But Her voice isn't like knocking me off my seat. I think it just is her preference becauses shes one of those drum hating acoustic people that jus sit with a single or multiple acoustic guitars and think thats like fun for people that aren't in opiate recovery so.

Something I learned about working with artists as a producer. Always listen to what the artists wants because at the end of the day it's their song not yours. It's also the reason why I left a producer/mentor of mine, cuz he always thinks he's right.

nightcore is much more lazy than what he did. Night core is like the pitching of all all elements. I would say its not nightcore if you made the song and pitched up. Nightcore is a vulture genre.

I think the normal one sounds way better - Personally I think a producer should be serving the artist (unless they have a really awful idea that’s not working), so if she likes it the original way, upload it that way. I love this series, it’s inspiring!
higher pitch one is the one that can survive the Billboard top 100, it's better paced.
it definitely grip the listener attention better than the slower one.
Simon definitely makes a good choice here with the high pitched one,
i think the best decision is to re-record the vocal with the faster tempo, so that
the change won't feel too sudden, and the artists won't feel betrayed by the change
the lower pitch one is good for cafe BGM, but not good if you want to make a career out of it.
let's be real, people said that slower one is better, but if you didn't watch this video as a context
and only listen it on radio, you'll more likely choose the faster one 8 out of 10.
that's why being producers is hard, because even if you made a right choice,
the artists won't like it, or getting too emotional, even though you did the best for the Listener.
Producers help artist from making a bad decision because of emotional attachment,
and put the Listener as the priority.

I like both, but honestly the regular voice is just so beautiful that it doesn't need pitching up. This is a really awesome thing btw., just collaborating with local talent from an open mic & exposing those unknown voices to hundreds of thousands of people. Good use of your power here Simon! :)

Gotta say, I love the "normal" version too! lol I find a lot of singers really prefer to have their vocals in songs sound "like their voice" as much as possible. Obviously, producers can always add their own sauce in the process; while still making sure the singer's voice is still recognizable. Also, love your story telling in this video! Awesome job Simon!

Gotta be honest here, what also makes the normal version better is that it sounds more natural. The higher pitched one sounds hard to listen to, like to the ear, it's kinda irritating in a way. But y'all did a very great job on this. I loved every single part of it, especially the guitar parts!
Tbh I was on a hyperpop tangent not long ago and the pitched vocals is a tempting experiment, but with a singer like Abby, the natural pitch is 100% the way to go, especially in the context of genre.

Singer songwriters are a different kind of beasts when it comes to the creative process. As much as some may like the idea of collaboration, sometimes, they have difficulty conveying that the music they hear is unique to themselves and their style that hearing themselves in a different way may not be as comfortable for them as they first thought. But the beauty of collaboration is just that -- a new kind of sound beyond what they were capable of on their own. I think the original version of the song that Abby prefers is more inherent to the sound that she was familiar with and the pitched version that Simon prefers is more a bit more out of Abby's spectrum but a sound that Simon experimented with and liked. Honestly, both versions sound great and the hook "And the red so sweet / when it dances on your cheek" was fire. The bossy nova'ish sound really complimented Abby's vocal stylings so all in all a great track. Congrats y'all that was awesome to watch and all in all impressive work and video!. One question though -- how long did y'all spend on the song?

Hmmm interesting! My brother is an incredible producer and loves trap music and upbeat danceable songs.. I on the other hand write songs and compose to guitar (acoustic) and every time we work he tries to turn my songs into a banger and it just throws me off. The best song I've gotten feedback on is a song I recorded at a different studio with the assistance of someone who listens to a lot of my "style" of music. I feel like that's what's going on here too. The annoying thing about some of us singer song writer types is that we're very attached to the song we created and how it feels because it represents a message we're trying to convey and changing it to sound more pop-ish can result in us failing to identify with the song because we feel like we've lost the context of the message or even (worst case scenario) hating it. This is not to say diverse collaborations are a no-go but that certain songs are more suited to drastic changes than others.

I think Simon's just so accustomed to working with regular voices and needing to process them to make them pop that he forgot sometimes the artist's voice is good enough to break the rules of what "should" sound better.

Nice colab! However, her voice is her brand as an artist. A pitched up song could only go so far if her future songs would inevitably be non-pitched and taking into account live performance etc.. I wonder why there wasn’t a 3rd option which seems a true balance between the two, where you pitch instrumental and have the vocals re-recorded higher pitch so that it maintains her vocal characteristics?
