This is one good saw. The reason I bought this miter saw was because of its WEIGHT only 26 pounds. I'm too old to carry a 100 lb. miter. Also, this saw works very well.
I purchased this saw a couple of years back and it is still unopened but that is about to change. It will be perfect for the deck rebuild that I will start in just over a week. I purchased an Evolution Power Tools Miter Saw Stand Plus and look forward to setting everything up this coming weekend. I caught it on sale at Lowes for some where around $80 likely due to the fact that it was scheduled to be discontinued.
Thanks I just bought this saw I'm trying to cut a stair handrail to match an existing handrail in our house for my wife's father who is ADA. You're giving me confidence as I've never cut anything but my grandfather was a skilled woodworker so I know it's in my blood.
I see that you make one first superficial cut and then a second deeper cut. any particular reason why you do it that way? Thanks you for your time and dedication.

Of course. And thank you for watching and taking the time to watch the video. This saw is really serving me well. I attached it to the Ridgid mobile stand and it gets rolled out every time I get to do some woodworking.
Something to consider re the depth adjustment feature. Completely removed the threaded piece and wrap it with plumbers tape and add a locking if nut. I know it’s not a Festool super perfect precision miter saw but there no reason it can’t be.
you're method for determining square requires a board that is square to begin with, i just noticed you didn't point that out, so i did, ,,it drove me nuts butting 2X4 framers that weren't square , and it took a carpenter friend of mine a few secconds to point out that my lumber was kinda twisted and almost all of my framing 2X4 's were like that, now when i do my set up , i use a nice piece of nery square everywhere PVC 5/8 X 3 " trim , it just removes 1 variable in the set up if something does happen to be off a tad

I’ll take that compliment. I have enjoyed my saw and it meets my needs. Blades are cheaper than bigger saws and I don’t have a huge shop to store larger tools. I try to make nice things with the tools I have. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Man a few years ago HD and Lowes had these for like $109 (ryobi and kobalt).. now only see em for $189 but saw this Kobalt one marked to $129 for black friday and this seems as good as its gona get. I have tons of different circ saw blades for this just raring to go but my 60t diablo ultra finish blade I got for. A flooring project that never happened is brand new and will pair well with this for some smooth cross cuts
I just bought a 60t blade last week for this saw and it worked great cutting oak for a project. It is a good saw for the money - especially at the price you found. Congrats on your new purchase. @@MarriedManWoodworking thanks, I actually have a regular 10" old makita miter saw that was my grandpas but I need just a little more cut capacity and something more mobile.
The cutting across without cutting all the way through has two benefits that I am aware. First, it has less chance to tear-out on the top part of the board. Second, and more important, the scoring of the wood on multiple passes prevents almost any chance of the board binding on the blade. WIthout doing this, some boards may try to close on the blade (because of tension in the board).
I have no personal experience with the Ryobi. This saw has done well for me for the projects I make. If I had a larger budget then I would have bought a larger miter saw but I really have not needed it.

I am writing a fictional work which will involve a full day's use of such a saw. There is no need even to be cutting miters -- just cross cuts. The material will be green oak and pine, fresh from a saw mill, but only one inch thick and nothing wider than 6 inches. This appears to be the saw to write into the story. Can the trigger be over ridden (taped or wired shut) so that it runs continuously like old-time radial arm saws? All of the cuts will be from patterns, so jigs can be set up. Any suggestions? I really only mean it to make the work of a handheld skill saw easier and more accurate. Thanks. Well done.
@@MarriedManWoodworking Thanks! I imagine that I could simply have the character use some electrician's tape but that would be slow to take off when she wanted it to actually stop. The point I will be wanting to make is that the electric draw of the capacitor every time there is a start, and then, again the power taken up by a brake is not environmentally "sound". I don't own one of these (yet), but could you tell me it one has a brake or does the saw simply wind down? I very much appreciate your expertise on this saw.

I have one. The Lower Blade Guard is broken. If anyone has a source for the replacement, new or used, please reply. I found 2 Model numbers on the Lowes site for the 7-1/4 in Sliding Miter Saw the 9 Amp SM1850LW, and the 10 Amp SM1816LW

I have been using it on a regular basis and it has served me well. Of course I would like a bigger more expensive saw but I recommend this one. I would also like a dedicated work shop filled with $100,000 worth of tools, but budget keeps me humble. For the money, this saw has served me well. Btw I manage to get this saw for 120 CAD + tax after some intense online window shopping. That's about 110 US or thereabouts. I found some place where the saw was not selling well because the item's description was Mitre instead of Miter. Lots of customers were missing it in their search at the store's website apparently and it went on sale. Plus I used a $10 coupon which brought the price down some.
@@mth469 I set aside some budget every paycheck for supplies and saving up for tools. I work out of my garage (shared with cars) making a variety of smaller items for family and friends. I like making wooden flags and lazy susans on a regular basis but I have also made french cleet closet systems, solar pool heater, end table dog kennels, countdown calendars, and a variety of other items. I enjoy the challenge of making quality items with limited space, tools, and time. I hope the saw serves you well.

I have no personal experience with the Ryobi. This saw has done well for me for the projects I make. If I had a larger budget then I would have bought a larger miter saw but I really have not needed it.
I am going to get this and change the blade to a type that can cut soft metals.
I hope to cut Aluminum 6061 with it.
