Always enjoy watching your videos! 😎
Always enjoy the fry fry Fridays... keep up the good job thanks
Thanks!
Good tips, I really like the pool sponge intakes, nice option.
Thanks! 100% credit to Barbara!
Happy bloop bloop bloopday!
Good info on the HOB pimpness.
You know that’s how I roll.
Great video, funny bloopers at the end. Just found your channel!
Hope you subscribe!
Welcome to fry fry blooper day fishie folks!!! LOL Mike!!!!!!! Nice video buddy :)
Thanks! Lol
Pumice is a type of lava rock. I fill my Aquaclear HOBs with bio-sponge material. I've found that sponge material is not only an excellent mechanical filter, but also a fantastic platform for beneficial bacteria. There is also some nice coarse pre-filter sponges on Cory's Aquarium Co-op website. Worth a look see.
Swear, I heard this worked & I was looking for the right guy to tell me "Thats all you need to do!" I was questioning the while 'Sponge/Bio Ring needed' thing. Thanks bro!
Anytime!
Oh my the bloopers in this one Mike, LOL.
Lol
Mike, that was funny!!!
Thanks!
Awesome pimp lesson
😎
Awesome
Yes, I am.....
Nice fish room! Wish I had a room to dedicate to fish, I’ve had to dedicate my bedroom and attached small room to my 28 tanks. Ran out of room and still have more tanks I need to set up lol
I’m almost out of room too!
Thanks 👑💝💖☯️😄
You are welcome! 👍🏼😎😁😆👊🏼
I'm just here for the bloopers!
Me too apparently!
With my AquaClear 50, I slipped a 5/8"-I.D. hose over the intake stem and into the riser of a Aquatop Classic sponge filter. Inside the HOB I installed a inTank media basket, and a nylon knee-high stocking filled with pellet-sized bio-media, with a piece of inexpensive Poly-Fil pillow stuffing as my mechanical media.
The combination is super-effective, as not only does it give my water amazing clarity, but it also keeps the levels of my heavily stocked 29-gal community in check. 40-ppm nitrites, just before the weekly water change? I'll take that!😊
Nice! Good job!
Hi Michael. Really liked the info. Thought I'd share the filter sponge I use. It's a pond fountain pre filter sponge and the holes are a little more open and don't affect my water flow. Name is TetraPond FK3 pre filter. It's also available on Amazon. The interior whole is a little larger also. Works great for me. Love the channel!
Thanks sandy! I’ll
Check it out!

@@MikeV607 great deal! Thanks Mike. That looks like the same great sponge only a LOT cheaper!!
Yes ☝🏽☝🏽 i broke lava/pukani into 1nch chunks and filled my 2 HoB with 1 X 4 inch foam on top of rocks 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 aerobic/aenerobic
Nice
Cory at Aquarium Coop sells the intake sponges especially made to fit filters.
I know, I like looking for other options.
Your guppies are BEAUTIFUL
Thanks!
I knew there was a better way than buying them expensive filters, my LFS didnt want nothing to do with answering my question about is there a better and cheaper alternative than buying the filters. They just told me to keep buying them....go figure, this video and corys video gave me all the answers i needed
Glad I can help! I'm all about Cheap!
it is possible to get a shot from the top of the filter? I'm just curious where you put the filter floss as i'm a little unsure where to put mine with the lava rock in the bottom. thanks!
Depends on your filter. you want the dirty poop water to hit the floss or sponge first.
Hi .. good job ... also i need your advice about cement balls to be as filter media alternative for lava rock .... thanks
I think because cement has limestone it would affect water chemistry
I'd recommend bio home brand media. It works well in all my tanks!
It’s expensive here in the US and kinda hard to get.
@@MichaelsFishRoom I have found it on amazon at a pretty reasonable price
I have prefilter on all of my tanks HOB filter. I get it from Aquarium co-op and theirs has no hole on the bottom so I like them.
Cool
Hi Michael quick question, does the box that filter is sold in mention that the intake tube is expandable?
I don’t know...I’ll look in the morning why?
Michael's FishThank you have a good weekend
@Michael's Fish Room where do you get your lava rock?
amzn.to/33LEdVm
Tricked out HOBs. I like it.
We used to hear, "you can't over filter" and now we know that's not true. With extra filters competing, a tank can crash. I like your analogy with ten to zero.
Thanks Bob!
Hi Michael .. i enjoyed an older video you made about Pothos . I finally got one but I'm worried about my Bristlenose , would the Pothos affect the algae levels and can i put 1 or 2 small Bristlenoses in a 10 gallon tank with my baby Guppies ... Love your work
It would, it will steal the nutrients that can cause algae (typically an unbalanced system). But you should be actually feeding them.
Sure, you can put bristle nose in with guppies!
@@MichaelsFishRoom I do feed them but thought they needed algae as well .. I will make sure i feed them enough ... many thanks
King of DIY - no.... Prince of Darkness - now that I can see!
Are your Japanese octagon filters Altum Aquatics? I saw them at a LFS I was in today.
No, it is a Japanese brand. Maybe different packaging?
On my aqueon 10 i have a fluval 70 filter pad, Fluval mechanical media, and filter sponge
Nice!
Outtakes!
best part!
Can a box filter be used in a tank that has a lot of fry in it?
Yup..but a sponge is better because they fry can eat off of it.
If you got the top fin 20 gallon hob filter the bactosponge for a 10gallon sponge filter fits perfect on the intake.
From aquarium solutions?
@@MichaelsFishRoom the one I got was at my local fish store but it was called a bactosponge it's the size you would use for a 10 gallon. The hole is the same size as the intake there is a video on my channel showing it.
I saw it at the LFS I was at. The hole is the right size, but it is short and would be expensive.
@@MichaelsFishRoom oh I see. I got the one on my tank for 5 bucks. Its 6 inches long so it covers the long intake tube so maybe the sponge I got was bigger.
I always just use a cut off piece of panty over the intake tube secured at the top with a tie or rubber band.
I don't wear panties. LOL
Do you change gloss or just wash it and how often
Gloss?
I bet those fine-pore sponges will clog pretty quickly with all that mulm. I bought some medium-sponges off Aquarium Co-Op that still clog pretty fast in my planted tank, though they last a lot longer between cleanings in my bare-bones grow out tank.
They sure did!
I would have liked to have seen the water flowing out at the top. Thanks.
Welcome
Do you sell fish and plants I watch all the time
Yeah he does.... go check out his website
Highly recommend
Www.michaelsfishroom.com
Alright!
Yup
Is it okay if i use sponge filter's sponge to put it in HOB?
Why not?
@@MichaelsFishRoom i always thought that when i attach a sponge filter with it, i thought that it will not work. Btw thanks for the reply youVe got a new subscriber
@@MichaelsFishRoom the sponge filter, attached perfrctly to the HOB haha i dont need that wire to hold it
Pudge awesome
Hey Mike - Pumice is just another type of lava rock.
But isn't it mostly man made?
@@MichaelsFishRoom nope it's natural
🥴
Just buy an intake sponge from petco for $2 you don’t have to replace it anyways just rinse it out
Never seen one in petco.
Omg plz let's talk like that another place
Huh?
bro why u holding out on us... set me up with one of them affiliate links so I can retire.
Lol
ahh yah fish pimping
😎
Fry all the things
Mmmmm fried food.
No rants today????
Only in my head....
How to make you Hob better? Huh...I thought it said how to make your hog bigger. Oh well...good video anyway!
Lol....if you find out....let me know!
make a video how to keep aquariums dirty
Only if you make a video first.
@@MichaelsFishRoom i wish i could but i have no experience on keeping aquariums dirty
Neither do I.
Rich from ReviewTechUSA?
Who dat?
@@MichaelsFishRoom great youtuber and possibly your doppler. Video game side of YT. Check him out.
Alex Cortez so what you are saying is he is very handsome? I’ll take a look see!
Why do all the aquariums look cruddy?
What do you mean?
@@MichaelsFishRoom The water isn't crystal clear. Shouldn't it be? Or do those fish not mind? Just curious.
StrangeArrangements water clearing is not an indication of water quality. It’s possible I was just doing something in the tank, or some plecos were moving around. I don’t know what tank you are talking about.
