    I have a phrase for you and everyone to use on Amazon or EBay: pool sweep tail scrubber.
    You put that in and up comes dozens of offers of sponges for like 10 for $12. Exactly the same kind of sponges as an “intake sponge” for a fraction of the price. It does have the hole go all the way through, but just stuff a little floss or bit of sponges into the end and, Boom! Cheap intake sponge. I use them all the time, no problems. Oh and, coffee and cheesecake.

      Here's a good tip to get cheaper ceramic biological media use ceramic tumbling media it's made of the same stuff that costs a fortune for a little bit (ahem damn fluval), comes in all sizes/shapes it's much much cheaper and available in bulk. Lava rock I think is the be all end all of great cheap BULK biological filter media but if for some reason someone hates lava rock, ceramic tumbling media is a good cheap way to go.

    Great! I appreciate the information here and that lava rock just makes sense, not only that but the rock greatly increases the surface area for bacteria, but the poor filter company cannot sell you overpriced cartridges anymore.
    One question Michael and it wasn't pertinent with this filter. When I got out of aquariums in the 70's sometime, they came out with the Bio Wheel. I never cared for it, I felt it had limited value and more often than not it stopped turning. Since they are on the HOB filters I wondered if you had any thoughts on their value? Thanks again

    • @MichaelsFishRoom
      @MichaelsFishRoom  5 років тому +1

      I used to love them because it was just another place for the BB to colonize! But you did need to maintain them to make sure they kept spinning.

    This is super helpful as I'm looking into upgrading the potential of this exact filter to also hold the porous mediums to house the beneficial bacteria. I was wondering if that blue partition was necessary or not for how the flow of water functioned, so I was thinking if I should put the stuff behind it or just toss it. I saw another tutorial where someone built it up behind the blue partition but was wondering if this was actually a good idea, as water wouldn't be forced to filter through all the layers.

    • @MichaelsFishRoom
      @MichaelsFishRoom  Рік тому

      No, if all you want is to hold beneficial bacteria, then you are OK without it.But there should be some sort of mechanical filtration.

      I have to admit Teddy is right on the money. Joey fell off years ago and Rachel with him. Cory can't stop moaning and starting to become irratating trying too hard to be everything to everyone, most of the rest are mehhh. I still watch Pondguru, he's a class above everyone and the others, I would recommend are Dustin's Fishtanks, Pectec, LRB Aquatics and Steenfott/Swhiskey.

      @@EBSELPROAUDIO haha you're right. I can't tolerate Joey and he keeps inserting himself on my UA-cam ALWAYS recommended no matter what... no matter how many "not interested" clicks it keeps coming back, Rachel kinda lost her touch awhile ago, she's still okay but I personally don't find myself watching her very much started around this time last year. You're absolutely right about Cory. I think ever since he tore down his fishroom it's just not interesting anymore and he seems to have next to nothing to do with his store anymore I mean he used to be just awesome and a plethora of good information now...he's just lost his real value and it's too high production and trying too hard now the Hong Kong videos were awesome though, DAMN I wish we had fish like that here in the USA. Lrb is great and so is that other guy from Texas can't remember his UA-cam name he doesn't pop up anymore I don't know if he stopped or what. Then there's these kids(well younger ones) fish keepers that are just plain obnoxious with this dumb awfully annoying background music and stupid video edits and loud oh and the THUMBNAILS gawd... It's like they took a course on scam UA-cam video thumbnails 101. I always watch this guy's videos though a REAL fishroom and no BS, tells it like it is and 100% down to earth this dude's awesome. He's even called out PetSmart on their bad fish for some reason other fish youtubers don't process that fact how bad the chains and a lot of places can be. That other guy (I can't remember his name but his channel is three letters) he's neat too and shows a lot of chains and LFS's. That Palmer fish cave or whatever is good sometimes too

    Hey, I appreciate the video! I have this same filter and it was working great. But when I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it didn't work as well as it did before. I cleaned and inspected every part of it, made sure the propeller was intact and still spun smoothly, added lots of extra water, made sure the adjustable knob was all the way open, and even removed the filters to make sure nothing was blocking it. It still works, but it's not as powerful as before and all I did was unplug and replug it. Is there anything I can do?
