    So, I have an established tank with a sponge filter running, let's say I wanted to seed a new sponge filter, can it be done just by dropping the new sponge filter into the tank as is or does it need to be running with an air pump as well? Also, how long does it usually take for the bacteria to colonize in the new sponge filter so it can be used in a new tank?

    • @MichaelsFishRoom
      @MichaelsFishRoom  2 роки тому

      It is best if it is running. 4-6 weeks usually. But remember the BB colony will only grow as large as the food source.

    Does the sponge filter provide enough aeration and surface agitation alone? Or do I need to run another small air stone in a separate part of the tank to ensure surface movement? I'm also running a hanging back filter which also creates waves. I'm just trying to cut down on the unnecessary gear running for aesthetic purposes only. I don't see any small air stones running in your tanks that are equal in size to my 30 gal. so it made me curious. Thanks a lot!

    Commenting while watching and I understand the principle, but curious if the length of the lift tube makes a difference on suction thru the sponge? You mentioned it's better with the lift tube, so hypothetically longer would work better, right?

      Take off the uplift tube and base on one of them and then snap the green “inner workings” together. Make sure your air stone is connected on the top filter. Reattach uplift tube and save the base for another day. I have two mediums stacked on a 40 breeder and it works great
