So, I have an established tank with a sponge filter running, let's say I wanted to seed a new sponge filter, can it be done just by dropping the new sponge filter into the tank as is or does it need to be running with an air pump as well? Also, how long does it usually take for the bacteria to colonize in the new sponge filter so it can be used in a new tank?

Will two small sizes of these be enough for a 20g long planted tank. I also plan on using a quiet flow 10 with some filter floss and maybe puigen. I would like to have one at each end. I plan on having a pair of apistos and around 6-8 cherry barbs. I have been using HOB my whole life so these are new to me, and I just want to give them a try.
I bought the non linear air pump from JehmCo . I seen your video on it from JehmCo and seen how easy it was to change the components and how long the components lasted you. For us on a limited income, this air pump worked out just fine. Now I refer to your video reviews on items before I buy.
Does the sponge filter provide enough aeration and surface agitation alone? Or do I need to run another small air stone in a separate part of the tank to ensure surface movement? I'm also running a hanging back filter which also creates waves. I'm just trying to cut down on the unnecessary gear running for aesthetic purposes only. I don't see any small air stones running in your tanks that are equal in size to my 30 gal. so it made me curious. Thanks a lot!
Did you think the aquarium co op sponge filter will take the small stuff in the water? I have a 55 gallon and there is small stuff in the water and I want to polish it up. Do you think it would take care of it even tho it is a course sponge? Might just get one from Amazon.

I just recently switched over to two large sponge filters with a tetra 100 from a hang on back filter. The sponge filters haven't been sucking in debris that floats around the tank. What would cause the lack of suction, and what is the fix?

I think it depends on a few likes, like if the sponge was designed to use a stone or not and the amount of air you have available. But I am not sure the gains you get are that great.

The green doesn’t prevent algae, I have these filters and I have it all over mine. So they got me on that “feature.” I also don’t like the coarse foam because my African cichlids pick up my substrate and spit it in the foam. You can’t get it out unless you take a hose sprayer to it, which there goes all your BB. These are also still made in China

Hello Mistor Michael. Wondering if i could get some help? Ive been trying to breed my KOI Angels for awhile(i know youre more of a guppy guy but i know youve dabbled in angels) i get eggs like crazy and they hatch very well but they never seem to make it past a week old. I do 25% water changes feed them 3-4x a day and the water temp is around 78 ish.i put them in a seasoned guppy tank( no guppys in it) so they could eat the microscopic stuff in the molm just incase i missed a feeding. I had about 300 fry in the tank for 3-4 days. the other morning i woke up and 98% of them were dead.Anything i could do to stop this? Love the content my Bald Brodder

Take off the uplift tube and base on one of them and then snap the green “inner workings” together. Make sure your air stone is connected on the top filter. Reattach uplift tube and save the base for another day. I have two mediums stacked on a 40 breeder and it works great

It is best if it is running. 4-6 weeks usually. But remember the BB colony will only grow as large as the food source.

It may, I would use poly fil in a HOB to polish the water.

Yes, there is better “suction” as the bubbles are forced up through the tube.

More airflow usually is better, but you want the bubbles to be small and separate.

You don’t need an air stone, but they work better with one. If you have an air stone already, you can use it.

Get the right size tubbing.if it is getting hard, replace it.

What do I do if I have an overachieving sponge filter and need to slow the flow?
I guess choke the air a little bit. It'll lower the lift thus lowers the suction and exhaust flow.
Put an inline valve in to lower the pressure.
