I am 47 years old and can remember the first time I heard this song while riding in my Dad's car. I was maybe 7 or 8 years old! This song is timeless.

Hello everyone, I am from Switzerland and I love their songs. In the early 90s I saw and heard them in the Red Rocks Amphitheater Colorado. The weather, the atmosphere, the audience and the music are simply unforgettable. Hare Krishna!

America was Dan Peek, Dewey Bunnell, and Gerry Beckley...Peek left the band in the mid seventies. Beckley and Bunnell carried on as a duo afterwards. You should listen to the tune Sister Golden Hair...

Despite my knowing this song in detail for decades that was an eye opening analysis you provided, and it shed much light into the prominent escapism theme, and then to realize that the escape was never a solution, actually turning out to be much worse. First wanting to get out of the rain (water) but eventually being surrounded by the sea (near drowning). Now I'm wondering what the metaphor of the horse represents 🐎. "Horse" was still a common street slang term for Heroin by it's users back when this song was written. This song has always been ubiquitous, and you'll both probobly recognize it immediately when you hear it again sometime out in your daily life.

According to Dewey Bunnell the song was inspired by him remembering when he would go riding with his father in the desert near where they lived.

this song is woven into great memories of the time when this beauty of a recording came on my 67 Camaro's radio as we drove from NY to California on a quest of adventure and partying back in 1972, it was a blast----4 months of freaking out with west coast crazies! this song is like always alive!

_America_ did the soundtrack for the animation movie _The Last Unicorn._ If you don't know it, I recommend watching it, for it is such a great fairytale.
I love the wide range of musical genres you two are covering, I love your Indian accents. I love Kirti's perpetual good mood, and Savio's "hand dancing" as well.
Keep up the good work, all the best from Germany!

Amazing that you are doing this song. I bet nobody has reacted to this one. You are such a adventurous couple. You would be very interesting conversationalists. It is nice to see openness and rationality at the same time. Thanks for the brief escapes from the often upside down world that we seem to be living in. Love your work. Cheers

I enjoy views on music, especially views from a different perspective of culture. The you can't escape problems by running interpretation is nice. Beyond that, i see that you can't escape the weight of being a part of the larger human whole. Life hid within the desert. Life hid within the ocean. Life hides in human community, and life is problems for us. We fail ourselves in a way that is unnatural by comparison. Thanks. I enjoyed this reaction video.

Bruce Lee said we should be like water. Water is strong and flexible and it always finds a way around obstacles.
It adjusts to its surroundings. If you fill a cup with it, it assumes the shape of the cup while also retaining all of its
    own unique characteristics.

You probably found more meaning in the song than what was intended, but it was very interesting. This group has quite a few really great songs and eventually worked with the Beatles' producer George Martin where they put out some of their best.

Love your channel! Now here comes the butt kissin. Would you please react to Grand Funk Railroad live in concert Los Angeles 1974 video. The song Heartbreaker is our favorite. My wife of 48 years and I were there when I was 24 and she was 22. She was tiny ( still is) and we watched the concert with her on my shoulders. I am so old now that I couldn't do that for a million bucks.

Some people thought it was a subliminal message for heroin he was so on heroin he wanderered in the desert and forgot the name of his horse and also some thought it was drug dealers meeting like they do in the desert making drug deals where police wouldn't be, horse one of the nicknames for heroin but those guesses are wrong because the singer when asked the singer in an interview How did you get a song title horse with no name? The singer said i was driving a jeep in the desert and a jeep is like a horse with no name and the interviewing host asked "why isn't it a horse"? The singer replied, "Because it a jeep"?. Answering telling the interviewer in a form of a question.

  • @STILL-KICKIN

“Horse” is a slang or street term for the drug heroin-
At first the narrator is enjoying the feeling he gets from it, he can still see the beauty in life “plants and birds and rocks and things”... The “fly with a buzz” represents the first time he gets the “high” from heroin and he clearly enjoys it. But “after two days in the desert sun, his skin begins to turn red” as the fun fades and the addiction takes hold. The dry river bed represents where life once flowed freely but has now disappeared “dried up” as his senses became dulled due to the addiction. After 9 days he “lets the horse run free” (lets the drug run his life) the desert turns to sea as the addiction completely swallows his world. “In the desert you can remember your name, cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain”, you run from your pain and those that cause it by hiding inside the drug.
A song about drug addiction and its’ inevitable complete envelopment of the addict...
Heavy subject matter in a catchy little tune indeed.
