You’re welcome! It’s a great system that’s been performing flawlessly since this installation. I haven’t had time to draw up a diagram on this but I will let you know if I do
I may have missed the section but now that you are 24 volts what do you do about charging from the vehicles alternator? Will you batteries accept a 12 volt charging? I am not aware of a DC-DC charger that will take output from a 12 volt alternator and bump it to 24 volts.
The alternator on the truck does not currently charge the 24 volt battery bank. I am considering installing a secondary 24 volt alternator to charge the batteries while we drive.
I'm going to set up a similar system but the grounds is what throws me of too. So you have the Multiplus ground going to the Orion? What about the metal frame? Also, what about the individual 12V outside camper lights (that came form the factory)? Did you leave those grounded to the frame? In my head, it's 12V and 24V being connected to same metal frame and "fighting over electric space" or something. And because the metal frame carries the electricity (completing the loop) for the 12V trailer lights (basically like a circuit), this is what throws me off when thinking of adding a 24V ground to that.
Just thought - Does the Orion also convert the 24V ground (from Multiplus?) into 12V, then the ground after that matches the 12V and goes to metal frame (so everything grounded is 12V)? ..... my brain hurts
No I didn’t, good idea though. The batteries are completely sealed away in that compartment so they don’t really get exposed to the elements. I didn’t see any evidence of corrosion when I pulled everything out after beach camping for 2 years straight
Well we like to run our air conditioner off the batteries at night so we don’t bother our neighbors with a generator. It’s more efficient to run AC with off a 24 volt system than a 12 volt system. The higher the voltage the more efficient it is
We have a link to the battle born battery website. It's best if you give them a call so you get exactly what you need for your rig. We do have some links to what we've used on our website @ www.destinationow.com. I can also add the links here when I get some free time.
I hope with all the people doing and going solar on rv’s that the manufacturers get on board and start facilitating space and wiring to go solar on rv’s. They could make money selling with solar packages.
Sometimes this is a good balance for having it easy to use without replacing every appliance, especially as a lot of these 12 appliances are very expensive
Oh dam I miss you guys 😢
Awe, we miss you too 🥰
Great video. Lot's of work, but we'll worth it in the end.
Thank you 🙏
I'm setup the same. I actually put a 24/800 for smaller loads and my internet.
Nice!
Thank you so much for the video! I am building an almost identical system. Do you have a wiring diagram of how you did yours?

I would have really appreciated this video a lot more without the music in the background it was so loud it was hard to understand
Thanks for the feedback

Both the 24v ground and 12 volt ground connect to the same ground peg on the Orion.
@@DestinatioNow Gotcha. So do you have a ground from the Orion to the metal frame? Is that your main ground?
@ForgeAheadwithMike I don’t think so. Although that’s probably a good idea
This all depends on regulations of how it’s being installed. It depends on the situation and the place it in so you have to research.
Did you use dialectic grease on each terminal and lug? May help with corrosion just sayin’

deox i put that shit on everything.
Dont need all the nuts and bolts
Why / benefits running a 24 volt battery system besides wire size ?
Well we like to run our air conditioner off the batteries at night so we don’t bother our neighbors with a generator. It’s more efficient to run AC with off a 24 volt system than a 12 volt system. The higher the voltage the more efficient it is
Wire size and reduced current is biggest benefit however is the things that come along with this such as increased efficiency that makes it worth it?
I wish you put links of all the equipment from victron you used

Product products sold by distributors you will have to get one close to you in most cases so links become useless for most of the people

It would be amazing if they did.
How many amps is your Orion dc - dc converter?
70 amps
Volume!
24 volt batteries don’t need to be in parallel so batteries are less taxed and will last longer.
So your appliances are still 12v, but the batteries only feel 24v… interesting.
Yes exactly. All the heavy loads run off the 24 volt system.

Exactly! Thanks for checking our video.
