The Gaunt's Ghosts series is the best of Warhammer 40k, hands down. The Guns of Tanith was my first 40k book and I stumbled across it by luck and never looked back. I realized it was a series and started reading them in order from the beginning. It's a gripping, emotionally investing series with characters you come to view as comrades and each loss is felt by the reader. There's no way a short video can come close to doing these books justice, Dan Abnett has created a masterpiece.
I started my Black Library journey with Cadia Stands, but after that moved over to Dan Abnett's work with the Eisenhorn quadrology, then the Ravenor trology. Read about one of those per month and was absolutely gripped. And then, only this last December, I found Colonel Commissar Ibram Gaunt and his Ghosts, the Tanith First and Only. I'm five books down and halfway through the very one you started with. Eisenhorn and Ravenor were already very close to cementing Dan Abnett as my favorite author. Gaunt and all the incredible Ghosts of Tanith and Verghast sealed that for me. Abnett is a master of the gripping character arc and Gaunt embodies this in every way.
Same my buddy got me into them back in high school I’ve read the series twice and I’m on my 3rd round now. My girlfriend didn’t understand why I was so bummed the day Bragg died… cheer bud have a good one
Be careful reading those books it is the best imperial guard army building propaganda ever made. You will read one and BAMN you some how have a fully painted light infantry army and no money
Sooo,,, correct me if im wrong,,, but if you could put Gaunt, Yarrick and Ciaphas Cain in the same fight along with their regiments,,, no matter what enemy they would succeed... Gaunt's stealth fighters, Yarricks just being plain bad ass, along with his armageddon troops. and Cain simply because of him being THE luckyest bastard in 40k
You forgot to mention that the books were inspired by Bernard Cornwell's "Sharpe" series, you really ought to give those a read if you liked Gaunt's Ghost
I was fortunate enough to begin the Gaunt's Ghosts series from book 1 and have just finished book 10. A very well done story that builds a legitimate interest in the characters, their struggles, their losses and the 40K universe overall. Highly recommended. "For Tanith, For The Emperor!!"
i love the imperial guard and am so glad they will be getting more attention and i would like if you could talk about imperial guard regiments from savage or medieval worlds
I agree I'm on the second Gaunts ghosts omnibus right now, and holy crap I would highly recommend you read them. I bought mine from a guy in our gaming community for 10 bucks. Also 15 hours is an amazing guard book I would highly highly recommend reading!
Honour Guard and Necropolis were my entrypoints into Gaunt's Ghosts - I have three Gaunt's Ghosts Omnibus volumes and just as many individual books in the series. I've been meaning to jump back into the series that transformed how I write my own fiction, and perceive military sci-fi.
Worst type of videos. If i wanted to see squishy meat bags being stepped on i would go down to my local asian massage parlor and pay the extra $20 for the high heel special. if you know what i mean
Imperial guardsmen are the biggest badasses in the universe, shitty guns, shitty equipment, no genetic enhancements and commissars behind their backs waiting to shoot cowards and still having the guts to charge at their enemies like madmen.
+Angry Sissy Said by someone who needs power armor just to barely hold a weapon that simple IG sergeant Harker carries like it's no there and who covers in fear when simple lonely guardsman Marbo is around? Get lost, genetic brother of smurfs, no amoung of memes and /tg/ love will save you from being almost the same as Tau - boring:P
with the latest book by Dan Abnett, the lore video needs to be updated especially since Gaunt has been promoted and other developments within this regiment
*cries*. Bragg's massive translucent frame moves in close to corbec's ear. "come away brother. theres nothing left for you there but pain" corbec:"but theres so much to.." bragg:"do? yes there is but its not your fight anymore. and we won colm we get to go home we're ghosts in truth and its time to see our home. what else could a lasman ask for?
I was finally able to finish the Gaunt's Ghosts Series a few months ago...I am a big fan. A 40K unit idea for you might be The Iron Snakes. I've only found one book about this group of space marines, "Brothers of the Snake" by Dan Abnett, but they seem interesting. Best wishes and always remember...The Emperor Protects 👍
@onemindsyndicate Hey gents loved this I have started a lore series of the history of Gaunts Ghosts and the Sabbat worlds Crusade. I would honoured if you could take a look. Episode 1 is out now Episode 2 coming soon :D
The king of the knifes, the king of the knifes, this is the song of the king of the knifes. He sleeps in the woods and he hunts in the hives. The king of the knifes, the king of the knifes. He dies were he doesn't and lives where he thrives. The king of the knifes, the king of the knifes. He cuts all the husbands and preys on the wifes. The king of the knifes, the king of the knifes. His voice is as loud as a battleships drives. The king of the knifes, the king of the knifes. He comes in the darkness and he takes all our lives. The king of the knifes, the king of the knifes, this is the song of the king of the knifes. Childrens skipping chant. Tanith. My absolute favorit faction the books are really awesome
Question: do you consider the events or Space Marine the video game to be canon because I do it's what I'm basing my new Skitarii army off the survivors of forge world Graia's garrison as well as some Imperial Guardsmen in the future but what do you think?
@@tribunalcustodian3989 I'm sure with some slight editing to Titus' lore he could work. He's a fantastic character who deserves to be cannon. Because let's all be brutally honest here, Captain Titus is what we ALL wish the Ultramarines were. Captain Titus is the shining example of what we wish for the Ultramarines, and a giant middle finger to Matt Ward. Titus is an Astartes who does not see himself as higher than any other human being, unlike many other Astartes. He is a brave and strong man who does not blindly follow the Codex Astartes. Interpreting the codex as a *guideline* and not a rule book is what makes Titus so special to me, and what restores my liking for the Ultramarines. Just edit his lore some and I feel he'd be fantastic as cannon.
question: just discovered you guys, thanks for all the awesome vids! my question is: how is it the Ethereals have total control over the tau? looking at the first reports of the Ethereals coming to the Tau homeworld caused the warring Tau factions to literally stop fighting and believe the greater good. pheremones? hive mind? thanks dudes!
I'm painting some Catachans right now, but looking at some of this I might just put some blue Celtic tattoos on some of them as a tribute to the Tanith.
anyone! Imperial guard is more "down to earth", so even something about the Militarum Tempestus Scions or karskins, any operation where they held their own would be nice!
every chapter something badass happens. I start one thinking it's gonna be boring and then suddenly a knife fight in a spaceship happens or they have to use their artillery close range to fuck up a word bearer
suggestioncan you do a video of the current lore of 40k so we can get a look at what GW may be doing (hopefully) in the future and tell us what has and has not been removed

Straight Silver, His last Command for me..looking for others.
Be careful reading those books it is the best imperial guard army building propaganda ever made. You will read one and BAMN you some how have a fully painted light infantry army and no money
I May get the books
It can be worse :D i started larp/airsoft Tanith group.
Well that's my only chance having a talk with the mad Larkin.
I think Dawn of War: Winter Assault already did that to me, This just gave me an Idea on what modules to get first.
Are you saying they are cursed by the Warp ?

Fenrir don't forget creed and his ability to pull baneblades and leman russ tanks out of nowhere
Add Sly Marbo to that list.
Sly is his own list, not fitting with the rules of fairplay to add him to this list
FOR TANITH, FOR THE EMPEROR
False, Just for the emperor
Angry Marine You cant help it. Your uncle gave you to much attention.. Even you did not want it.❤💚💜💙💛
Sergeant Dyllanius Cadexus Straight silver!
Feth it all
FIRST AND ONLY
You forgot to mention that the books were inspired by Bernard Cornwell's "Sharpe" series, you really ought to give those a read if you liked Gaunt's Ghost
The tanith first and only and the Cadian shock troopers are my favorite regiments
do they have a video on the Cadian shock troops?
Any love for Catachan or Krieg?
What about valhallan
Tanith, Elysian drop troops, and catechans
The first two cycles are, by far, my best memories from teenagehood. A wonderful story, with wonderful characters =D
one fact missing
when the Feth is Warmaster coming out?
I've been waiting for this video since I first subscribed. Thank you, very well done. For Tanith, for the Emperor. Straight silver!

MEN OF TANITH DO YOU WANT TO LIVE FOREVER?!- Commissar Ibram Gaunt before charging to battle
I agree I'm on the second Gaunts ghosts omnibus right now, and holy crap I would highly recommend you read them. I bought mine from a guy in our gaming community for 10 bucks. Also 15 hours is an amazing guard book I would highly highly recommend reading!

I've been meaning to jump back into the series that transformed how I write my own fiction, and perceive military sci-fi.
Gotta love (the totally not witch) Milo
Soft voiced woodsmen... sounds like Canadians.
I will take that as a compliment
More like the Finns. Ask the Russians how that worked out for them in 1940
Roy W-G the fins are snow people not woodsmen
Tannith was based on Scotland and Ireland so go figure
Proved in blood.
Glad to see straight silver made it into the videos, the books are amazing!
Awesome a new episode related to the Imperial guard.

Awesome vid guys, Straight Silver!

z F I know what I said son.
The only thing awesome about this video is ... oh wait there isnt anything awesome about this video because its about frail meat bags called guardsmen
Angry Marine Hey it takes brass nads to walk into a battlefield with only a high powered flashlight and a thick coat for protection.
They would be just as beneficial with flesh lights and Vaseline. Guardsmen equals useless

I start one thinking it's gonna be boring and then suddenly a knife fight in a spaceship happens or they have to use their artillery close range to fuck up a word bearer
