- It's me, Scratch "just learned about oil paint" Bashing.
Here is an interesting build of a wrecked hover vehicle using a single toy I found at the dollar store. The goal here was to make a scatter terrain piece for Warhammer 40k or some other sci-fi table top wargame using only a single item.
If you are a hobbyist/crafter I welcome you to try your hand at a single item build like this. Let's see what you can come up with!
If you enjoyed the video please leave me a comment and subscribe! What should I build next?

Looks like some retrofuturistic soviet military vehicle.
And this is essentially the way a lot of the most iconic vehicles and ships where put together in sci-fi history. Love seeing what can be made from everyday items or through kit bashing
Its like a Bob Ross video; it starts off so rough and slowly transforms into perfection
He even the happy accident bit
That's probably why I instantly subscribed to Scratch. I grew up off watching Bob Ross.
I know thats supposed to be like a space vehicle, but this aesthetic screams Fallout. Great work!
For me the screamed fallout 3. Reminded me of something like an old pump station or generator housing!
I think its the colours, they scream fallout, for me at least
@@rebeljesus3470 ye, it's got a laughter variant of the military green the trucks and tanks have
Idk bro reminds me of a metal slug wreck...
The Corvega blue-green makes it seems like that to me.
You did miles better than people who have challenged themselves to build watergun terrains.
Cheap paints, £1 piece of crap water pistol, cheap brushes, a few cotton buds, a few rocks and half a stick of used pastel and hey presto....
Builds a piece of terrain so fantastic with an awesome paint job and realistic weathering features you would think it was custom built with a £100 budget, the most expensive paints and weathering supplies and a custom moulded resin cast figure. This is when talent exceeds the limits of finance.
How DARE you insult the water gun, that thing was part of my childhood!
@@handleonafridge6828 🤣🤣🤣
I never would have thought you could find awesome terrain material at the "oh crap it's my nephew's birthday!" section of your local CVS. This is absolutely brilliant!!!
This build is great because it really looks foreign enough that you can call it different things based on the narrative. Destroyed vehicle? Check. Machinery? Check. Junkyard junk? Check. Neat AND cost effective.
That was a Masterclass in bits bashing, the special effects industry people will love what you do! Bloody brilliant.
I started out with minis playing Necromunda, where our terrain was 99.9% bits and pieces of broken junk, and later, as an Ork player, kept that going.
This is the stuff I got into the hobby for. That creativity and inspiration to make something amazing out of nothing.
Great channel!
thank you!
Really like the look of this. That little red decal, teal color scheme and rounded edges makes it look like some Soviet vehicle. Real cool model.
I think subconsciously I was going in the soviet design direction
This is some truly impressive weathering and rust work... Just gorgeous.
And that stencil not working.. super relatable. It turned out probably even better looking anyway.
Fantastic job.
Great work! I have a half-built thing like this that I was going to enter in the #grimsquirtchallenge last year, but time got the better of me.
I challenge you to finish it :D
..Glad you came back to it! 😝
I actually used this as inspiration to turn a pair of squirt guns into an Ork bowelburna. Actually came out looking more Orky than the real model.
I love how this vehicle looks. Gives me strong fallout and destiny vibes.
Yeah same, I felt like it looked like a military tank from fallout.
I feel like I need a tetanus shot just looking at it! Well done!
At least ten times I thought, "wow, what a great finished model...oh wait hes not done." I would have been satisfied very early on. Great job and commitment.
It felt done to me, but I had all these techniques I still wanted to apply, so I kept going 😃
I’d love to see a large terrain piece made by this guy that includes official gw stuff, maybe like an imperial fortress, great vid btw
I’ve definitely passed by this roaming the wasteland. Great job!
Awesome! Thank you!
My mom actually did this challenge to her middle school art students when she told them to make an artwork out of trash they found at home, they came up with really creative ideas such as spaceships and cars using the most insanely original items they could find in their trashcans lol
This is straight out of the Gerry Anderson play book when watching his puppet scifi shows it's amazing to see what the modellers built from various common bits and pieces
Impressive work! You've really made me look at the stuff I've already stored away in a new light.
thanks! Go make or hoard something 😄
Wow, that is some serious scratch-bashing!! I love the end result, all of those differing layers of paint, oils, and pastels really add up to a damn near realistic piece of scenery.
The wonderful thing about this is that it could many different things depending on the situation. A dilapidated industrial equipment (or building), a crashed spaceship, an alien fortress...the possibilities are endless.
Most impressive job good sir. Great stuff, thanks for sharing, and keep on keeping on!!
This wreck looks like something I'd play on as a kid
I used to play around on old wartime bomb shelters in my hometown as a kid...
Modeling and painting is spot on! 10/10. Reminds me of art of Simon stålhage "tales from the loop"
*It's never too late to join in on the challenge!*
☀️ Let's go, Summer builders! ☀️
Who do you want to see try a build like this?
Maybe Goobertown hobbies? Also, your videos are awesome, and as an newbie orks player, they are very helpful!
Thanks! And yeah, Goobertown would be awesome to see.
I have been experimenting with fingernail polish to remove fresh painting mistakes. Using it like a paint with a brush but I wouldn't load the brush with the thinner nor would I allow it to sit on the paint long. Might be something you could use for weathering maybe. A friend saw this build on Facebook and showed me a picture. Then a youtuber said you had a UA-cam channel.
When you were dissatisfied with the end result of the 03it was actually quite well done.
Love the simplicity of the build but it becomes something awesome
Gorgeous piece. Makes me think of some old rusting Golden age 40k wreck. xD
This is great , could easily be a crashed ship from Star Wars to some machinery from a factory in a ww2 bombed city. Will have to try this for sure
This is awesome. All the best terrain videos are inspiring, and "dollar store watergun" sure inspired me!
This makes me want to make a massive spaceship graveyard, like Sakaar from Thor Ragnarok
This was a neat video to stumble upon, really creative. Honestly, I’d sign up for a whole Netflix series of $1 challenge builds like this.
Please call Netflix. I will assemble the UA-camrs 😄
Wonderful work. The paint job is amazing!
I really wish I had your ability to “see” these things in everyday objects. Amazing.
Congratulations!
Just watching this just reminded me of models that ive bought from a few people that were in total distress and needed repairs just from 1 look at the model. But that never stopped me because i took the challenge with what i had and what i just bought to make the repairs work
This style is excellent, ive been watching painting and terrain tutorials on UA-cam for a few years now and I've seen some great stuff it all seems quite similar, I've never seen any tutorials for anything close to this style. Please keep up the good work! Your video quality was great and as I said before the content is beautiful.
Watching you create lowers my blood pressure! Most amazing thing to watch! Teach me Obi Wan!!!!!!
This is so relaxing. I love it. All the best to you
Glad you liked it!
I absolutely love how this turned out, especially considering all the work that went into just a cheap toy. I think I’m struggling a little bit to get a good sense of the scale, whether this was some huge ship or maybe just a smaller craft, but the signs make me think larger
Thanks!
14:16 you can see it with some Warhammer minis for scale. It is a smaller craft.
That is looking like abandoned tau floating tank. This is realy good job, i can see a highly-trained professional!
Awesome weathering technique!
Thanks! Now go and do the challenge. You don't need a workshop for just 1 item :)
Excellent build! The weathering looks great and I cannot believe it is only a squirt gun. Thanks for sharing this.
inspired craft right there, i might have to binge the whole channel sometime later.
Wow if I hadn't watched the video I'd never know this was all plastic. You are definitely a talented painter.
Thank you! Cheers!
I just stumbled across this video and I am blown away!
This is so cool! More please!
Thank you! More is on the way.
This looks absolutely amazing! I'd never have guessed it was made from a water gun! Well done!!
Thank you very much!
Yessss thank you UA-cam algorithm. Awesome build, can't wait to check out the rest of this channel.
Welcome aboard!
Very nice terrain !
That's just extremely creative :O Man, I gotta visit the dollar stores more often
Thanks! Remain indoors until it is safe to go out!
Damn this looks sick! This would look awesome as a base for rusty abandoned Gundam!
Simply outstanding! You have a really impressive artistic vision.
Fantastic build and even better paint job - keep up the great content!
Oh wow! I absolutely love this! I might use this if i'm gonna make a war-torn WH40K battle table!
"It's the middle of wintertime"
Wait, what? No it isn't
Oh yeah. Northern Hemisphere XD
Holy crap that looks good. Why aren't you more popular yet. Your builds are right up there in quality with the big names. I'd love to see a vs collab between you and black magic craft
I love these videos. Trying out new things because of them.
I wish I was as talented as you! Even your “mistakes” are awesome!
A really nice rusted paint effect there. Inspiring stuff.
Thanks! It's all based on something I learned from the channel Paint on Plastic
@@ScratchBashing Ah cheers. I'll go have a look. I was trying to track down the same water guns you used to make a mech out of them. I'm sure I'll find something similar.
@@dragonkattz Don't go shopping during the pandemic! (but they are from Dollarama in Canada)
@@ScratchBashing Ha! Well I'm unlikely to treck there from the UK anyway. I was looking on Ebay and Amazon.
This video popped up as a random suggestion and I'm glad it did! great build, I subbed and am looking forward to checking out your other builds!
Welcome!
fantastic job!
very nice. before paint, i thought it was a hot mess. but the weathering is excellent and the final product looks great.
Glad you like it
That's really impressive! Looks like something you'd find in the Fallout world...
The level of awesomeness if off the chart!!!
yooooo that was dope! I've been meaning to get into kitbashing forever but this would be a great way to give it a shot on the cheaper side of things budget wise!
This channel will be huge in the future
You should add a timelapse at the end of each video from start to finish. That would be deadly! Nice work bud!
1 item...
Processes to use:
-Water pistol.
-brush
-air brush
-paints
-paper
-saw
-several types of glue
-pastel
Its a super cool build and youre very talented. Just poking fun lol.
This is awesome work, fantastic job
Looks like an awesome hover tam, with a fallout theme
The coloring of the minty green and white makes me think of the fallout universe, like a tank or maybe a beached submarine!
Just to sum up, BRILLIANT!
Amazing look!! Thanks for sharing.
Looks exactly like a piece of fallout wreckage
Very impressive and inspiring.
That was quite good. Thanks for the vid.
Great job!
Very high detailed finish, but I can only see two buried giant guns. I think a better composition could have been done by playing around with different levels or sometging, but that's only my opinion.
Next time!
Superb
Perfect for any post apocalyptic miniature gaming !!🤘😀👍
That's amazing, I'm inspired!
I can already see it in action
How I didn't know about this channel?? I LOVE trashbashing
Welcome!!
Very nice kitbash, man!
Very good looking design, giving very strong fallout vibes
He's a wizard! Or really likes what he does.
That is just amazing!
Oh man, this is so great! Subscribed, I will watch your other videos with pleasure, thanks for this
Art, very relaxing.
This is pure alchemy 🤯
That is so creative! Nice build!!
Looks fantastic!
Thanks!
Good stuff. Keep it coming.
Thanks, will do!
You won my subscription mate. Excellent work
Welcome aboard!
Looking good!
Great paintjob 👌
I'd like to see a game where the environmemts are photogrammetry scans of real models
This is so freaking cool
