  • #ilovervlife #InverterGenerator #PowerhorseGenerator The Northern Tool Powerhorse 4500 Watt Inverter Generator is perfect for our off grid RV power needs. Plenty of clean AC power, quite and fuel efficient. The Powerhorse 4500 Watt Inverter Generator as the name implies has a surge capacity of 4500 watts with a normal run time of 3500 watts. This wattage was important to ensure we could run at least one air conditioner, the battery charger, a TV, the MoFi 4500, and the residential refrigerator at the same time.

    I would recommend you get a magnetic dipstick to help collect any metal as the engine runs. Search for magnetic dipstick for predator 3500, I'm pretty sure your generator is from the same factory as the predator. Congratulations on the new Montana!

    We purchased one of these a couple months ago. We love this thing. Your experiences with it are the same we have experienced. Tv, both fireplaces, fridge and two of the 3 ac units ran well with no problems. While inside our 5th wheel I really have to listen to hear the unit running. Great unit.

    That's a nice generator. We bought the champion 4500 electric start. I'm going to mount mine in the bed of my pickup truck I am getting a magnetic dipstiick and a cover. I live in north east Ohio so I get all four seasons. I just changed the oil first time after 6 hours and I put in mobile 1 full synthetic.

    Congratulations on the purchase. We just bought a Predator 3500 for our 30 amp and it's awesome. These two machines have to be made by the same manufacturer, because so much of yours is exactly like ours. I think you're gonna really like having it with you.

      They do look similar. Maybe a few changes in the inverter and a few of the electronics to get the 4500 watt surge.

      I also have a predator. . Its uncanny how very similar it is. I've had my predator 3500 for about 3 years now and love it.
      I believe predator came out with a 4500 also recently

      They do look similar. Harbor Freight had a 4400 watt in an open frame. Their recent offer in the quite, inverter style is the new 9500. Price is competitive, but was larger and much heavier that we needed.

    Great choice Jerry, in the generator you choose. It's going to be worth every dollar spent, so you and Joan get to do more boondock excursions! Great information in this video! I really enjoy your honest opinion on products shared in all your videos and blogs Jerry and Joan. Makes watching your channel so enjoyable!! As always... Blessings to all the "J's". Great Video Jerry. I missed your video on the introduction to the Montana. I see it posted so I need to go watch it rich now. I don't know how I missed it. If you are driving into snow please come to Canada.. LOL I wish I could post a picture. It is snowing like crazy where I live right now and personally I think we already received enough for this week. My husband appreciated your generator. One of these days we will see you on the trails. Enjoy the snow Joan!

Hope the generator video was helpful. Looks like this is going to be perfect for our needs, plus the price difference compared to the on-board is substantial. We too hope to see you in our travels. Looks like a great generator, maybe you can look at a pull tray in your rv generator compartment that you can slide it out when in use and slide in when you're done with it and never have to load and unload plus it would be out of the wheather. Enjoy the snow ❄.

    I have a champion 3500 which is about the same size as yours. I also keep it in the back of the pickup with the same cover also. What I did was purchase a muffler extension with the aircraft exhaust hose which I point out of the back of the truck. This helps keep the heat and fumes out of the bed. Even if I take it out and put it CHAINED to the rear bumper on the trailer I can use that hose and point it in the direction I want. There was a video on youtube that had the extension/hose kit. You can purchase different lengths of hose for your needs.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  2 роки тому

      Thanks Danny. The Powerhorse comes with the spark arrestor installed so it’s Cali compliant. Didn’t show in the video, but also has a good quality air filter. We looked at the Predator and it was a second choice. For a few dollars more, the extra wattage and a few small upgrades for just a few dollars more.

    • @dannyscobee6530
      @dannyscobee6530 2 роки тому

      @@iLoveRVlife yes, the spark arrestor is what causes problems. Clean it often (25 hrs) or remove completely if it’s not needed. It had a tendency to clog up with carbon, then it won’t run or runs poorly.

    It will likely not power both a/c's and the fridge in the dead of summer, as they draw max load when it's 100 degrees out. Much easier to get rid of heat from a warm place to a cold place. Hard to move heat it from a cool place to a hot place. Definitely get a metal dipstick for it, and do your first oil change after 1 hour of loaded run time. I have two of the Powerhorse 2300i's and they have been fantastic.

    • @iLoveRVlife

      Thanks Will. Getting the magnetic dip stick on the next Harbor Freight visit. We’ll see on the AC. Doubt we’ll have the need to run 2, but other comments have shared they’re able to run 2 in the summer. Break oil change done. So far, so good.

      @@iLoveRVlife it all depends what brand and size A/C's they are. Mine is a Coleman 15k without a soft start, and I can run just it, and 12v lights on one of my 2300's, but she's just short of maxed out. In 90* temps my a/c draws about 13A . When you go camping in cold weather the ice maker water line may not be heated. My water line to ice maker line starts under sink goes to the rear of driver side slide and backup to refrig. It is not in a heated area. You may want to check your water line location. There is a valve so you can isolate and drain.

    HI Jerry, How is this generator working out for you. I'm starting to shop for one. I was thinking about a dual fuel simply because I did not want the gas smell, but if I keep it in the back of the truck I guess it would not be bad. Just looking for some input and how you are liking yours. Also did you figure out storage? Thanks!

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  Рік тому

      It’s working great. We use non ethanol gas and add a stabilizer. If it was to sit for a period, I just run it dry. I like the duals, but didn’t want to take the wattage loss on propane. Northern had a no questions asked warranty that we purchased. We had it in the back of the truck and the strap slipped off. Hit the breaks and busted it up pretty bad. They gave me a new one in the box. We just returned from 4 months of travel. I’ve designed a sliding tray for the 5th wheel front bay. Should have it built and video early December.
