He was an awful umpire who made the game about him. I hate when people say "gotta give it to him" or that he had a great career. He deserves no respect
We all know Tony La Russa was really running out to yell at Abreu. He broke the unwritten rule of getting hit in the face with bases loaded, a 2 run lead, and no outs. There’s just no place for that hully gully stuff in baseball.

Back in my college basketball pep band days, we'd share the exit with the opposing team and the refs to get back to the band hall, and there were a lot of these interactions.
Totally cordial, while also having the backdrop of unrestrained vicious heckling just 20 minutes prior.

As I giants fan, I just wish the game ended with a swinging strikeout. I was expecting the Giants to lose based off how cold their bats were. Like I had less than 1% belief that we were gonna come back. But the amazing season ending on such a bad call left such a bad taste in my mouth.
Maybe it'll fire them up for next year
Dodger fan, and yeah, it was a shame. It takes away from the win, too. I fucking hated your team and you Giants fans, but I have a lot of grudging respect for you guys. I’m sure if the roles were reversed, you’d still think it was a terrible finish and you wouldn’t want the win tarnished like that.
I’m definitely in the camp that believes how you win is important. The “win at all costs” mentality degrades the game and sports in general.

As a giants fan I wish MLB would change the playoff structure so the #1 and #2 records in baseball can't face each other in the first round. It might not be convenient to have to hold off on having the official matchups until after the wild card game, but what we got instead was much worse. I firmly believe that the Dodgers were not capable of winning a 7 game series in the state their starting rotation was in and if the Giants had faced them in the second round instead it wouldn't have been an issue. But it was only the fact that it was round 1 and best of 5 that allowed them to squeak past, but even in doing so they gassed themselves out so much that they didn't have anything left in the tank for the Braves.
Absolutely love these. missing is the Angel Hernandez one with the Royals. He loses the ball in the lights, causes a back up on the bases and they have to make assumptions on where the runners are and correct the call.
Is that the one where Francona asks him "Why does this stuff always happen when you're the ump ?"

If the umpires get to frisk the pitchers after every half inning, the pitchers should be allowed to give the umps a vision test immediately afterward.
I think you overlooked the mets winning on a walk off HBP early in the season when the batter clearly stuck his elbow into the strike zone to get hit by the pitch

I love these. His lip reading and him reading it as they say it is great. Him making fun of Larussa running like an old man was awesome but my white Sox did decent this past year. I was very surprised but they didn’t last long in the playoffs. The Cubs one with the family laughing at everything we love seeing ppl argue in Chicago sports. We are a fucked up city I know but there is so much beauty and comedy we love and will let you know it. Probably more than once in a conversation if you talk to ppl from here. I just did it lol.

Great compilation. I might be a bit biased but how about the Angel Hernandez fiasco with Cleveland and the Royals. I think in that one series there was 3 or 4 outrageous calls, all by Angel.

100%. Dude is just so awful. Only silver lining is that I don't think he's vindictive like other umps. He's just bad, but at least he's usually consistently bad so you kind of know what you're going to get with him.

Unfortunately I've watched Tony manage most of life being a Cardinals fan. He's overrated and has buried so many teams that should have been winners but he is consistent on one thing. He has ALWAYS been protective of his batters and short fused on inside pitches. Even if it wasn't bad he doesn't like it period.
As a fellow Cardinals fan, I can confirm that TLR is overrated.

I am a die-hard hockey fan who despises ANYTHING and EVERYTHING about baseball...Jomboy is the exception to that rule! Jomboy actually takes one of the most (in my opinion) boring and unexciting games and actually makes it enjoyable to watch. Good job, Jomboy! I really like it when he crosses over to doing hockey breakdowns.
It amazes me how upset a manager gets when his batter is thrown at for "violating unwritten rules," but will pull the exact same thing themselves.

Your narration of the fans is the most enjoyable part of this
If you hit a batter in the center of the back, whether it was intentional or not. You should be tossed. If your control is that out of wack that day, you shouldn't be pitching. Because players safety is most important.
Sometimes it literally just slips out of your fingers and can go anywhere, a guy shouldn't get automatically ejected if he's throwing a perfect game and one gets away. Would you eject someone if they threw a pitch in the other batter's box? That guy definitely should've been ejected but a blanket rule like that wouldn't be sensible. Perhaps something a little more lenient towards the pitchers while still protecting batters.
Getting distance from some of these clips have made me realize just how crazy it is when I get a chance to forget it. That runner down the first base line is still so bewildering.
