At this point, Suffer had been out for less than a year and No Control was three months away from release. They’re on fucking fire in this video.
Pete Finestone has got to be the most engimatic drummer in the history of music. He has a terrible, inefficient, energy depleting technique, blasting away at the kit, but at the same time he's really good with it and never loses stride. It fits perfectly with the early BR sound and he's extremely fun to watch even though he's wearing nothing but his underwear.
Concur. In other words: he was an early punk rock drummer. No technique, only fun.
1989: merely, 5 young guys playin punk hardcore, nothing more nothing less; amateur musicians who loved music, fun and rebellion.
I think that any br drummer chimes with any br music era. Finestone, as you say, fits perfectly with early br. No better drummer for br style in those years than pete. 😉
All hair and joy
I really like all of their albums and manymany of their songs! But the stuff they played with Finestone is the sound I got into punkrock with. Brooks was a beast and I like his drumming a lot, and also Jamie is a great drummer to me. But Finestone defined the sound of BR to me!
I still don't like Bobby's sound, though. Technically most probably a super drummer, but I didn't like the sound. He destroyed it for me. IMHO! Not wanting to start a fight here! If you liked Bobby, it's perfectly fine for me! Enjoy!
Anyway! Still glad those guys are still around and I really enjoyed that video! Thanks for sharing!
Reading the book, found out that Pete became their drummer cuz he was just a friend who loaded their equipment and kinda stepped up to the plate when there was a vacancy. It’s kind of odd to think of Graffin and how he is perceived being an academic and all, but when it came to the band, he was always just like “no come on man it’ll be fine” (Pete becoming drummer, John Albert becoming drummer, convincing Brett to play shows pre-Suffer, Mike Dimkich joining)
@@aWhimTestedI think that comes from the fact that they all probably though that at the end of the day, Bad Religion pre Suffer (and throughout its run too) was just a side thing that was fun as hell to do. Basically, a hobby. Just like after a long day of work one will come back home to play an instrument, video games, etc. Even on the Along the Way DVD Pete says "after this I'll probably try and find a real job", to put in perspective how they were all in BR as a side project instead of their main source of income. I remember seeing on an old interview (maybe ATG or Generator era?) that they all thought that the European Suffer Tour was the best the band would ever get popularity-wise and that they would probably make zero money out of it and before that, if it was even worth it to go through the hassle of flying over to Europe to play a few gigs. Then they thought "hey, who gives a shit? Why not just go and have fun?" and it was a massive success, then they make No Control, ATG, Generator, Punk Rock gets super popular in the 90s, and history is made.

27 great songs!!
Thanks! this is very helpful
Greg has one of the coolest voices ever !!!
I don't think you would win an agreement with Greg Graffin .😂🤬
@@colleenkowalczyk8267 he’s not allowed to decide because everyone hates their own voice. That’s a bias 😂
I've just turned 12 and won't discover Bad Religion until barely a year later, No Control the latest release (and my first album), and I still watch this video with a nostalgia that brings tears to my eyes
Me too. "No Control " was my 1st BR record at 13.
Awesome!!!
Wow. This must be really rare. Future legend Bad Religion plays for few punks ... I'm really surprised that they played in Europe alreadzyback in 89, and what is yet more interested, that somebody taped it on video.
They'd been playing for almost 10 years!
Greg's voice is so much better live especially when they do the early stuff
he'd still do it but it's really bad for your throat, and he wouldn't be singing as well now if he kept doing it through the 2000s. Personally I think the against the grain era had his most balanced vocals, but that's just me.
Pity!!! Outstanding!!!
Haha at 16:34 Gregs intro makes Brett laugh and continued to make Pete laugh.
Oh my god! Here we go again! Thanx Gunsnitro!
I was 8, half an hour away, little did i know, no loss, though, the lego's where just fine.
Amazing footage! I was 8 months old when this was recorded. Damn how I wish I could've seen this for real.
What a gem. Thanks for sharing with bunch of fellow BR heads 🫡
This video was made about 5 months before I was conceived, but I’m still a gigantic BR fan - best band ever
What a rad setlist. I hate how people used to just sit on the stage lol
Love this. This bootleg is in much better shape than the one I have!
My heroes! Thanks for uploading this!
Thx for the upload. Love it!!
Wow! Thank you kind sir.
So glad to see them playing ¨Pity¨
OH this video is great! Love it!!
Thanks for uploading this treasure!!!! I really love it 🖤🎶🖤
thank you
See you tonight: 06/05/2019 - AB, Brussel !! --> 30 jaar geleden!
I enjoy how could hell much better live than on the record. Anyway another gem from this wonderful channel, thank you so much
They were just kids. I love this.
Such a great performance
Good footage.
Hetson is sorely missed :/
1:17 he always do that dance
👍
Look at these kids!
Their prime!
Greg Hetson always in them funky looking shorts, wth.
mosh shorts brah
Wow, tiny crowd. I thought they were quite big in the late 80s.
Mark Tovey yeah this is weird the crowd isn't that into it either see a show same year in LA and it be chaos with people jumping on stage even
it is pretty much obvious, at that times this band (except germany) was literally unknown in europe.
Good point - I didn't register that it was in Belgium.
I was at this show. I hadn't heard Bad Religion before that night, we just went to every punkrock gig in those days. If I remember correctly 'Suffer' wasn't even released in Belgium at that time and there were probably about fifty people that night. I was a big Circle Jerks fan back than and remember thinking 'I know that guitarplayer from somewhere' :-)
Damn, a bunch of people witnessed a legendary BR set that night accidentaly, they literally played everything up to Suffer
I wonder how many people in that crowd understood English. I'm guessing Belgium was well versed in the language at the time?
I think your answer is at 16:08 ;-)
haha Greg Hetson
No Control was already done at that point. They should have played songs from it.
Yeah, some NC songs would’ve been really cool to see getting played
@@victoresquivel8546 It would have been even better than the album. Greg's voice at that time was fucking excellent
BR
uuh i like politics from this show
Stage dive! 😂
pity it fucked up a bit during pity lol
Greg Graffin is the most "punk" man of all time whilst putting in no effort to be.
