      Not really sure what any sponsor can or would offer tbh. I've turned down ads before - nothing major obviously - you could all have been watching some phone ad before the video had I took the money, but it didn't feel right for the channel so I said no.
      Tbh I don't feel hurried or anything. I really never cared about money though, all I wanted to do was provide some quality content and either entertainment or education without having to worry about paying the bills. The Patreon money is a massive weight off my shoulders and means I'll never need to sell out. ;) It does however add extra pressure in terms of quality content. I feel reasonably content overall but I do wish I could do more without being hamstrung by a less than ideal working environment.

      +Tone Tech and Gaming Very true, over at LinusTechTips and other reviewers we get a bunch of guys playing on Bungies and boats sponsored by Nvidia while repeating exactly what Nvidia said in their presentation with no extra input whatsoever.
      It's downright sad that these huge reviewers seem to not know nothing about the hardware they're supposed to be reviewing, or more like aren't allowed to say anything.

    • @bloxyman22
      @bloxyman22 8 років тому

      +Roy Wright Assuming that NVIDIA is not lying about 1070 being faster than a titan x then I would not call that just a minor upgrade. The titan x or even 980ti was something that was not affordable for most people and thanks to the 1070 it will now finally be affordable. Last generations has really not provided much of a boost in the models in the same price range.

    • @wrighrw2
      @wrighrw2 8 років тому +1

      +Galvanized Dreamer the only difference in the founders edition will be the pretty design of the cooler and vapor chamber Heatsink, they will be 1700mhz and boost from there roughly. The 1070 will be slower than the 1080 overall due to gddr5 but not by much, but we'll see how well pascal performs in dx12 and Vulcan as that's the future of gaming.

  • @AFPMPU
    @AFPMPU 8 років тому +15

    About Nvidia saying the 1070 is faster than the Titan X, it's most likely they are referring to its VR performance as well.

      +sempron Almost certainly.

    • @bloxyman22
      @bloxyman22 8 років тому

      +sempron I doubt that since they did first announce the "real" performance of the 1080. It was only during the VR segment of the conference that they claimed it was twice as fast. Would be really misleading of them to announce it being faster than a titan x without at very least having a small disclaimer like they had during the VR portion.
      Either way we will know soon enough :P

    NEW VIDEO OH MY GOOOOOD

  • @Dargonante
    @Dargonante 8 років тому +30

    Excellente video as always, Pascal it's just what I had expected, Maxwell on Steroids , the frequencies are impressive no doubt but the performance is not up there yet, I'm holding for Vega/Volta.
    Btw, I was expecting that you talked about Async shaders and concurrent Async Compute/Shaders for Pascal, there's some controversy about it, some are saying Pascal can finally do concurrent Async Shaders/Compute while others say it is just as Maxwell, Async Compute without PreEmption, others say it does PreEmption better but nobody knows for sure.
    Nvidia released some slides for Pascal where it said that Pascal brought "Huge improvements for Async compute" but that isn't the same as GCN Async Shaders, in fact they're not even related, Nvidia Definition of Async Compute is nothing like GCN.
    There are some Aots Bencmarks for the 1080 that suggest Native Concurrent Async Shaders are not present on Pascal still.
    Maybe on your next video? :D
    Cheers!

    • @MemphisPrime
      @MemphisPrime 8 років тому +1

      Nvidia has had Asynchronous Compute for a few generations but because of their poor pipeline scheduling implementation, they were not able to take advantage of it on Maxwell. If they fix their scheduler they shouldn't take such a performance hit on dx12.

    • @Dargonante
      @Dargonante 8 років тому +1

      +Sergey Smith That is not exactly how it works.
      Nvidia can do Async Compute with Maxwell, what they can't do however is CONCURRENT Async Shaders, Async Compute and/or Graphics, which is the whole point of it.
      In order for Maxwell to process async commands it must stop all graphics processes putting them on hold until it finishes all compute commands, then it switches back to graphics.
      GCN have the unique ability of doing Async Compute, Async Shaders and Graphics all at the same time thus increasing performance thanks to such parallel implementation without the need of switching between commands.
      Maxwell can do Async Compute with poor scheduling, what it can't do however is Async Shaders.

    • @adoredtv
      @adoredtv  8 років тому +1

To use all the shaders requires async to be utilised and unless that is happening the bandwidth will never be saturated. Basically speaking, Fury X is a horribly unbalanced part and you can't really compare different architectures as well as you can similar ones.

This relates to the inclusion of very important features such as fast context switch and preemption. To make up for this, NV have pushed clocks way up, and have not taken advantage of the power savings available on 16nm FF. Which is a good choice in the end. For gamers, the interesting thing is performance, rather than how it's obtained. :)

    It was interesting that nVidia didn't even mention DX12. I imagine that will be all the talk during AMDs conference. I was hoping for something like: "Finally, a card that can play triple-A titles at 4K on ultra at 60fps" from nVidia, rather than spinning big numbers.
    All this says to me is wait until January next year for the 1080ti or Vega. Great video btw :)

    We took a very similar approach to the GTX 1080 and 1070. I have a similar video up as well, and I touched on the marketing tactics nVidia used to put their product on a throne.
    Tips you should take from this video
    -Always wait for 3rd party benchmarks
    -take 1st party benchmarks (from nVidia & nVidia affiliates) with a grain of salt and analyze specs!
    -if a competing company has a chance to respond, always let them before making your decisions (4870, 295X2, C2D E6600 are a few products that exemplify companies striking back with better valued products days to weeks after their competitor's release)
    Keep it up man. You're an inspiration for my content!

      +Dart Maul I know it's hard not to as those 5 stats have been in every tech video for the past few days, but it was shown at the nvidia demonstration over clocked during a rendering application if memory serves. It was this over clock and vague referencing that gave way to the initial confusion over the founders edition. It seems clear this gpu and memory has a chunk still under the hood and I expect to see partner boards show some insane figures. But regardless I only mentioned it as some question mark was bought up about performance. I'm sure someone far smarter would be able to give an educated guess but by those figures this card has some excellent ocing potential.

    Why are people going crazy over the stats Nvidia is releasing about Pascal? AMD released it's own 1st-party benchmarks of the Fury X, showing it beating out the 980ti. In reality, it's the slower card. The same thing is happening here. Wait for actually, 3rd parties to analyze these card

      +Pan Z Agreed, it's the slower card, in 1080p dx11. 4k dx12 or vulkan, Fury X has chances of beating the 980ti. If you want to do longer with a card, go AMD, i get the feeling they're way more future proof.

    Instantly you point out that the Titan X comparisons were in something not related to gaming, sadly youtubers and tech websites other than a few didn't pick up on this. Or they ignored it. There is a real lack of disclosure right now from the youtubers and websites who had their expenses paid to attend the event and instantly push out hype peddling videos/articles.
    I'm surprised no tech reporter or content producer picked up on the "2 years and several billions of dollars" R&D claim on the Pascal architecture. Obviously untrue as they have multiple areas that are being worked on. Just as AMD didn't focus on Polaris, they have various other areas.

    Adored, Great video as always and you brought up some points that I already came to the conclusion of but never thought as to why because, it's Nvidia, and smoke and mirrors are their thing. Prime example, seen their VR slide and instantly thought 90% of people wouldn't read the Y value and just take the 3x better performance as across the board, nor did Nvidia go out of their way to explain that it was ONLY in VR during their event. Again smoke and mirrors but to give Nvidia some credit, it is up on their slide for everyone to read. Also, Love the way you broke things down in your video in terms of numbers, because I have been having that discussion with friends saying something is not right. Either the numbers are wrong or Nvidia is pulling a 970 with the numbers and that alone has been causing some heated discussions between us let alone the whole Async Compute that I am claiming is not on the hardware level. Either way, keep up the great work, I love your videos!

  • @KenrickBrown75

    I have two possible theories about Pascal:
    Theory 1:
    Pascal suffers from what I call "clock speed inflation". Let me explain what I mean by this with an example:
    AMD's FX-9590 is factory overclocked at 5 Ghz and it has eight cores. Despite this, it can be outperformed by Intel i5's and i7's even in programs that can utilize many threads. A widely accepted explanation of this is that the cores are not as good. Regardless, it's clocked at 5 Ghz, which would be impressive on Intel CPUs (they usually overclock to about 4.6 Ghz sometimes higher). But the point is that despite the 5 Ghz, it's not as good as a higher priced Intel four core chip clocked at a lower speed. The FX-9590's clock is not worth as much, hence "clock speed inflation".
    Theory 2:
    Nvidia has not given the GTX 1070 and 1080 enough memory bandwidth. If this is true, they may be holding back cards with higher amounts of VRAM, or in the case of the 1070, a GDDR5X version. GDDR5 and GDDRX differ only slightly in terms of the GPU, but 5X is signifcantly better. There will not be an HBM2 version of the 1070 or 1080 because it would be a waste of time for Nvidia to convert these GPU's into an entirely different VRAM format if they could easily slap on another few gigabytes. Cases of both AMD and Nvidia using the same GPU with different amounts of VRAM are common for example:
    - A lot of AMD's 300 series is the 200 series with twice the VRAM
    - Some models of the GTX 960 have 2GB of VRAM while others have 4GB.
    - The 980 Ti is the same chip as the Titan X with half the VRAM and is slightly less powerful.

      Are you saying the Pascal cards are probably worse than they could be? If so where are you cocluding this from as we have no benchmarks and very little snippets of theoretical performance. While I personally think Pascal will probably not perform as Nvidia advertised. They have been like this in the past. For example; advertising a new architecture like it was 5 times faster in compute performance something not relevant to gamers and misleading them.

    • @lockjawjak

    Great video from AdoredTV, as expected! Very different from the other "mainstream" tech channels.
    About the cards...well...for me personally they are as expected. I believe the target audience for these Pascal cards are more people who are still on the 700 series or low end 900 series, than people who are already in 970 SLI, 980 (Ti) and Titan X territory. I don't think the performance gain is enough to bother with selling perfectly good 900 series Maxwell cards and investing heavily in these first releases of Pascal cards. Like AdoredTV mentioned, I personally will wait for the release of VEGA and/or GP102 cards with HBM, of course! Looking forward to those!! :)

      +Txx00xic Well there were some Ashes of the Singularity banchmarks that leaked which weren't that groundbreaking. That and the fact thst more than one source now says that it's only 20-25% faster than a 980 ti. So it's failry safe to say that most of the advertisenent are just cherry picked stats.

    • @Txx00xic
      @Txx00xic 8 років тому

      +Thyldor Obviously as both AMD and Nvidia will cherry pick the hell out of benchmarks this year but all evidence points to the 1080 being a worthy upgrade for those on the 980/970 field and AMD's Polaris chips just being for mainstream consumers which both isn't bad but not groundbreaking so it's pretty safe to assume Volta/Vega will be the heavy hitters we expected.

    • @Thyldor

      +Thyldor For VR it apparently is but for normal desktop gaming it's just a 20-25% which in all honesty isn't bad but a 980ti will most likely last you this year and the same is with the Fury X.

    When I saw the first performance slides I was waiting for you to do a video, because I knew the impression I was getting seemed too good to be true. You did not disappoint.

    Can't wait for the cards being available, Pascal and Polaris, to see real independent benchmarks.
    Woah! Almost half the amount of your total subscribers currently watched your new video within 5 hours uppon release. Congratulations! Well deserved. Quality over quantity

    my exact thoughts !! No freaking way is it faster than Titan X by 2x :D Here is an excerpt of what i told my friends -
    " I am 101% sure that Titan X will be beaten by 1080 by at most 30-40% in terms of raw framerates. The main reason being - the 1080 runs at a whooping 2.1Ghz+ GPU clock whereas the Titan X struggles to sustain 1.4Ghz GPU core clock ! In theory if we could overclock Titan X to that level then I am pretty sure Titan X would beat the heck out of 1080  [there are articles on Titan X with liquid cooling achieving 2Ghz and beating everything out] According to the latest benchmarks , 1080 is about 10-25%faster than 980Ti depending on the scenario… Since 980Ti pulls marginally ahead of Titan X (again, due to it’s aggressive dynamic overclocking, thanks to the aftermarket coolers that nvidia totally prevented custom board partners from putting on the TitanXs #$$#^$&^#%$$#!!!*@*!) , I totally don’t agree with 1080 being 2x faster than Titan X. In fact you can see the latest demo of DOOM running on Vulkan API at 1080p resolution at between 100-150FPS !!!!! Nitpicking - the demo is in a closed room with mostly darker environment which should totallyyyy boost the performance , but we only see 100-150fps, which I think points to something strange (otherwise they would’ve showcased 1440p or even 4k "
    Awesome video by the way :)

      +rritambhar chakraborty even worse If you watch the doom demo more closely the frame rate was from 79-200 frames but more noticeably at the clock speeds you said and i totally agree with you on the 1440 and 4k why not run it on a panel that the card is aimed at and project it rather than bullshitting us with a 1080p demo my 7970 runs it at 1080p with no problems

    Outstanding video, much more realistic than the crazy numbers spouted on nvidia slides, very good math and again a very informative, interesting video, top marks again my friend very impressive work.

    If you're shopping for GPU right now, consider the 1070/1080.
    If you already own a 980, 980Ti or an AMD equivalent. Skip the 1070/1080.
    Either way you should take a look at what AMD offers. After all, Freesync is significantly cheaper than Nvidias G-sync.

      +Andrwei Joghansan I agree with waiting to see what AMD offers in competition with the 1070. I don't agree with skipping 1080 from 980, especially if its for VR.

      +Nerd Chat the 1080 is a pretty big jump for 980 users but 980ti users will be able to hold on to their cards for another 9 months until the 1080ti and the next Fury releases.

      +Nerd Chat As long as your 980 can still keep up with your tasks/games including VR then I dont see the point. Is not like there are any VR games yet where a 980 would truly struggle.

      Yeah that will be very interesting! If we just go for the hitman footage (P10) then it should match a 980Ti with ease, also in DX11. If AdoredTV is guessing correctly, then P10 will have stand against the 1070. So all we need to wait for is AMD keeping their promise to release a card in the 970/390 price range (~300-350 USD/EUR) which is as fast as the 980TI. I would guess it will be cheaper then the 1070 but with far better DX12 performance.
