Nice way of calling bullshit on TechSpot's conclusion :P Love your videos. It's sadly rare and refreshing to see such quality of work and research being put into videos the way you do. Keep it up! :) Cheers!
Sorry for not fully watching the video and commenting (i know i'm going to internet hell) but THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING! By far the only UA-camr that i care about (other than Digital Foundry)
+Aaron96235 I don't really see how Linus is an nvidia shill. they like nvdia, that much is obvious, but I feel like they are very fair to radeon products for the most part. just look at videos like Linus's review for the hd7970.
+Free cancer Just for you I DONT THINK they speak there mind about what they think about Amd they hold back to get more viewers. Actions speak louder than words most of there stuff is about Nvidia and intel
+Aaron96235 I'll gladly say there commentary is a bit biased since they usually say the 390 basically cant be overclocked (which is complete BS) but generally speaking they allow AMD to win on quite a few titles like battlefront, ashes & Hitman so they must not be so biased that they alter the results in Nvidia's favor. TBH just seems like they're misinformed
Ahh, that's exactly what I was thinking. I was already wondering when the downside of this card will be brought to light (as if the prize wasn't downside enough). Thanks, AdoredTV, for enlightening us!
+c3tr4 The only sucker here is you, who would prefer to pay attention to very obvious biased reviews it seems. At least with AdoredTV you get a real look at the power of these cards on EVEN playing fields. There is no bullshit here, no cherry picked benchmarks to make things look better than they are in practice, just a guy telling it like it is.
Thank you for this video! It's been breaking my heart to see so many tech youtubers that I respect get sucked into the whole Pascal wine and dine fiasco. I knew as soon as I heard that they were all being flown out to Texas to be boozed and given guns, that the reviews that came afterwards were going to be terrible. I'm relieved a little to see that some of them actually did more than regurgitate the marketing material from Nvidia, but sadly that's all most of them have done to this point. I've been waiting to hear your take on it, and even though this is only scratching the surface of it (all anyone can really do until all the cards are on the table) it's been a very welcome addition to the discourse. Oh, and that game looks awesome!
+skyzefawlun Why are they all reviewing the same games its as if they have all been given a list to follow by Nvidia...if its that good lets see this card in Ashes DX12 :)
+rhn94 You say that but there is a clear and obvious green tint to all of the mainstream tech press. It is pretty well accepted that Nvidia is a sponsor for many of these guys. When you control the media you control the hearts and minds of the masses. Mark my words no matter how well AMD does with this next round of cards the overall tone they will have will be very dismissive. How many of them are gushing over the 390? If AMD is good than they can just be silent. Its the same technique that the major news outlets use. Which is why for many many years I have not been a fan of Nvidia. I saw this stuff starting back in the Geforce 3 days, but it became very obvious when Doom 3 launched. I remember when John Carmack did a complete 180 from loving the 9700pro to going full "Nvidia fo' life" during the launch of that game.
+Cannon Powers Doom 3 was designed with the Geforce 3 as the main platform, so it would make perfect sense for Carmack to back the Geforce 3 for that game.
They have had nothing to review for a while, they need the hits, and the money. Amazing what a day out horse riding, and shooting guns can do for your PR.
+skyzefawlun I agree. Since the launch i was very excited to see their benchmarks since they usually do a very good job. Although some may be a bit biased, i usually watch around 5 benchmarks of different youtubers before i form my opinion. And to be honest i was actually very disappointed at most of the reviews since they didn't go as in depth as they usually do, and non of them had anything negative to say, which they always happy to point out. Also all their other review have lower end cards or previous gen cards to compare to the reviews gpu to give an idea how your card compares to theirs, but this was not the case. 90% of the review so far only compares the 1080 to the 980, 980ti and fury x. I know that the lower end cards cant compete with the 1080, but i would have like to see how my R9390x compares to the 1080 for example. Obviously it cant hold itself against the 1080, but would have been nice to see if the 1080 would warrant an upgrade from the R9390x. But i hope more detailed benchmarks will come out soon.
Hardware Canucks and Jayztwocents are the worst reviewers anymore. Real reviews are a rare commodity on youtube these days. I'm sick of watching some of my old favourite channels turn into influencers. They are trying to push products for companies and avoid speaking anything negative about it. Jayztwocents for example decided to make a truth about sli video without actually doing any reasearch. He just repeated what Nvidia told him and made some other things up. Explicit linked multiadapter is a feature in DX12. 3dmark uses implicit linked display adapter. Nvidias driver team worked together with 3dmark to avoid interframe dependencies. Interframe dependencies are the reason crossfire/sli is such a rare commodity in DX11 games. Don't get me started on Tomb Raider. Anyway great video as always. Love your content!
+John Duthie It is not even the quality of Jayztwocents that made me unsub it is how rude he is to his subscribers. Ever notice how he "calls out" commentators that aren't even offensive?
Hardware Canucks is such an hype train rider. His tech reviews on graphic cards are so weak, it's amazing that people are treating his content like facts.
+John Duthie Some small (300,000 sub channel) got a 1080 GPU. The dude NEVER GOES into detail about GPU. Just plays them and gives graphs. He probably doesn't know the definition of thermal throttling. But only 3 sites ever really mention it on their reviews. The rest are just bragging and wanting to get paid.
+John Duthie Hardware Canucks is sponsored by NVIDIA, so what do you expect? Jayztwocents always prefers NVIDIA, and I agree with him on the subject of SLI. People are claiming stuff that isn't necessarily true, or maybe blatantly false.
+John Duthie Tek syndicate made a benchmark video that showed the gtx 1080 was about only couple more frame than the 980ti in many of the popular benchmark tests, he was overwhelmed that it wasn't higher specially after seeing the graph nvidia showed us the reveal conference saying the card was basically twice as fast as the titan. I am sure many of the fan boys believed that. Its sad really, people are that easy to be manipulated.
They "released" the card this way as Nvidia are worried that many people are holding off till AMD release more details or actual products. The early Paper release allows the review hype to take hold, and possibly sway a ton more people into pre-ordering.
+Cmdr Embryo Totaly, nvidia seems to betting the best "cards" they have already in hands, with the best blefe of all, they have been doing it since the 970 trying to saturate the market as much as they can to make their path to volta. they need to catch up the dx12 advancements, and they have vulkan as an alternative if something get really bad.
+Cmdr Embryo I fear that if Nvidia can't meet demand at launch, hype will die for the card before AIB boards come in. Hype buyers will get themselves a subpar product in any case, and it sucks to be them.
Nvidia is a marking pro. That's what they do well along with enthusiast level graphics cards.(crossfire fury X owner here) Thankfully AMD seems to always be Bette run the long run for card life and increased performance. I'm really excited for my fury x's performance come end of 2017 when Vulcan starts seeing games built ground up for it.
Jonathan Bruckman As a double Fury X owner, did you have problems installing your double rads into the case? I keep hearing that from multiple review sites. For instance, can the rads be installed side by side into a 240mm rad space?
*AdoredTV:* I think you should do another video about *Async Compute* with these new cards, 1080/1070, in mind and explain out how Nvidia's version of Async Compute, *Dynamic Load balancing*, won't give Rendering tasks or Compute tasks 100% of GPU utilization all the time like how AMD does with its *Interleaving* version of Async Compute. People don't know that there are quantities of Async Compute and games like *Ashes of the Singularity* and *Hitman* are only using small amount of it and developers will use more amounts of it in the future because the *consoles* can handle it and they need as much optimization as possible given that they are fixed hardware. Nvidia just isn't future-proofed- *technologically obsolete*. It's a reason why Nvidia purposely avoided talking about DX12 in their presentation for PASCAL unlike Maxwell because they know *Async Compute* is their achilles' heel.
+Moorish Brutha I think we need to see more recent games that use async compute and more cards (by nvidia) also theres vulcan and dx12 and how they use async.
+spkt0r Yea, but alot of people are going to buy that Founder's Edition on the 27th not knowing what *Async Compute* really is and how it will be bigger in the future thus making their expensive 1080s worthless like Fermi, Kepler, and now, Maxwell cards. There is no *performance gain* from DX11 and DX12 with the 1080 so imagine how it will be in the future.
+Moorish Brutha some reviewer already done this, and their conclusion that the card driver is still not mature or the architecture cant perform async compute, in comparison the 1080 only won by 7 fps against the fury x in hitman with async on, but the 1080 looses fps from dx11 to dx12 in hitman this indicate the card driver is not mature yet or the architecture itself is not ready for async
+bertotrbn I love his reviews too, man. Always super informative and explains in a way that even a moron like me can understand. He doesn't even have the graphics card itself to review, lol.
+Aaron96235 Well, you can't really blame the reviewers so much... it's hard to be critical about the guys who flew you over to Texas and pulled all the stops to make sure you were as -high- happy as possible when they revealed their graphics card.
+Markus “IceY” Eisenhammer I just hope AMD releases a card for like 299$ with performance close to 980ti, crossfire that shit and laugh at 1080 fanboys, no need for vega.
+Markus “IceY” Eisenhammer Pascal has taken the smallest step it could of done towards what gcn 1.0, but has not actually fixed any shortcomings of maxwell.
+Markus “IceY” Eisenhammer Apple wouldn't want Nvidia's gpu on their Macs. This happened a few years ago when Nvidia shift the blame to Apple when the Macs back then had defects that affected the hardware. It turned out to be a problem with Nvidia's chips but the damage already had been done to Apple's reputation. This is one of the factors that resulted in Apple securing a deal with AMD to use their chips.
Please never change how you do your videos. The quality, unbiased, and thorough nature of them is amazing and I think I speak for everyone when I say we really appreciate them! Always happy to see one of your videos pop up in my feed. Cheers mate
Seems to me like they have cut the cuda core count to the minimum they can get away with and tried to rely on the clocks speeds the 16nm FINfet process gives. The problem is its throttles badly. I wouldn't want to use a card that goes about 80 C. The noise alone would be horrible. This is nvidia putting out the cheapest chip possible and covering it up with marketing BS. $100 more for basically the worst version of the card. You would have to be a fool to buy it.
+Paul Finch It's likely that the 16nm FINfet process had many defects per waffer; a cut down die would increase the yields per wafer, and was likely a business decision by Nvidia to do so. AMD seems to be going in the opposite direction, and perhaps their radio silence is in part due to them trying to decrease the defects in their own wafers before their respective launch.
+Brian Mulrooney You might be right but don't forget the next change in transistor size for gpus probably won't be around for probably another 5-6 years so they won't be putting out the best stuff for a while just like every other generation. Still they shouldn't advertise boost clocks if cards are throttling back to their base clocks. Not only that but these new transistor sizes should run cooler in theory with less power consumption. This is not the case because they are pushing the clock speeds already to get the performance they want. No doubt asus MSI etc will all make better coolers that hopefully won't throttle. I just don't like nvidias marketing approach. I just hope people don't fall into the trap of buying the flounders edition only to be dissapointed weeks or months later by either Polaris or better versions of this card for less money.
Paul Finch Absolutely, we are on the same page. However, if people don't do their own due diligence with excellent resources like AdoredTV, there's not much sympathy I can have for them. Personally, I'm holding out for Zen/Navi for my next rebuild in either late 2017/2018, so hopefully most of the FINfet kinks will be worked out in a generation or two. Cheers.
+Brian Mulrooney I may even hold out for that myself. My Rig is doing well so far. I'm more into 1440p 144htz gaming rather than 4K. 4K displays really aren't that special and people seemed obsessed by it. If Polaris can improve over my 290 by 20-30% at a good price I might be temped. If not I'll wait. I think AMD are actually doing the right thing by aiming at mainstream PC gamers from a business point of view though. The high end stuff is a much smaller market.
thus far I've subscribed to and watched a lot of youtube tech channels in an effort to make as informed a decision as possible whenever I feel the need to upgrade a piece of hardware with regards to cars and computer shtuffis. Yours is by far the most analytical and thorough I have ever found for the graphics card wars. Your accent was so thick the first time I watched one of your videos I had to watch it twice over to understand what you said for sake of your inflection but now I hear it clear as day easily. SO BONUS! thanks. you're awesome.
Great video, it was a nice break from the constant fanboying in other videos(Like cultofmush...). TekSyndicate did what I thought was a pretty fair review. Still, Nice video, really loving your content.
+Pryce Newberg I got sick of cultofmush's uninformed hyping of all things nvidia and unsubbed (he told people the FE would be better at overclocking than the $599 versions and was telling people up to preorder lol)
I only discovered your channel a little while back, but I have to admit that you are now one of my favourite tech youtubers, mainly due to the fact that you explain things in a clear and unbiased manner. Cheers!
+PENDANTturnips many small channels might get the cards because of their partnership deals i suppose but anyhow consumers are aware these days not to fall for the marketing, at least smart consumers are
Great video. This is the first time I've come across your channel and it's an instant subscribe. I felt good about my 1510 MHz Zotac 980 Ti AMP! Extreme anyway but after this video I'm even more convinced that it'll do me at 1440p for a while.
Awesome video as usual. I would like to add, at least the reviews I read, the 4k performance numbers are with the games almost completely maxed. If you drop settings down a little and turn off AA, then you should see 4k numbers close to 55-60 fps. I tested a single TX at 1500 and it was pretty good at hold numbers no lower than 40s. So the slight bump in performance in the 1080 should be good enough for 4k if you are willing to make a couple small sacrifices. Can't wait for polaris!
+B Mcginnis If you were to turn on MSAA or just any type of AA @4k you'd just be a massive idiot as a gamer(cuz you cannot see much of a difference at such high res)! If you're a company that's usually better at AA than competitors then you're gonna have a nice time marketing your card with completely unrealistic benchmarks! Especially in this current state of the reviewing scence :/
+AbgezocktXD Not 100% true, i have 2 4k monitors and i can see the diference, but even on 1080p i hardly ever wanted to loose fps to gain that type of quality. As textures got very high res and feels more organic the necessity of higher AA will be a must. Because when things looks like reality the aliasing even very few of it becames unnaceptable, a nd disturbs the experience.
Ok i guess one can see a difference but i've heard a bunch of people say its either not noticeable(or incredibly minor) or if so absolutely not worth the tradeoff. Now, you're saying we'll have to use AA technologies a lot more as game textures advance more and more and details become more realistic, right? Well that would indeed be true if our displays and technology of displaying a rendered image were to completely stop moving towards smaller, higher resolution and more efficient ways of doing their job. You know, Samsung making their 11k,2200 ppi Smartphone screens .. Yeah that's a metric ton of pixels and that was when? In July 2015 (ok annoucement but .. hmm) .. So, to wrap this up for now I'll say that we will probably see the trend towards higher resolutions and less Anti-Aliasing continue, AND what i think will happen is that at some point Anisotropic Filtering and better solutions for Mipmapping than what's standard now will replace all our left over needs for AA (cause as you mentioned really high resolution textures at an angle to the camera (Anisotropic Filtering) or to far away or near textures (Mipmapping) can look horrible, but btw how does MSAAxN fix this? Not? :) Ok, maybe FXAA but .. nope). AND if we do ever hit quantum mechanical problems in to how high in resolution a screen can possibly be produced, we would probably stream the vertex data directly into our brains anyways or not or maybe we're all destroyed by aliens searching for a better way to do rasterizing - who knows.. Have an awesome day!
Thank you for not being on cloud 9 reviewing the reviews of the card. Kinda knew it would be over-hyped and blown out of proportions. Cheers, for an informative video. Looking forward to the rest of your videos in the future. :D
Wow..crazy stuff here. So in other words the GTX 1080 is going to be the world's next $600-$700 space heater and AMD is still gonna be stained with still having that reputation instead? Wonderful. I think i'm good with my r9 390 that hardly ever even breaks 60C during Battlefield 4 but hey, 80+C is a revolutionary improvement in cooling now right?
+Justin Colley I own a Sapphire 390X and with an overclock of 1150 MHz on the core and 7 GHz effective on the ram playing Witcher 3 my temps don't go above 67 Celsius. Running stock settings they top out about 62-65 C
I watch a lot of tech channels, but you sir are by far my favorite one. you look farther than the graphs that the press and tech companies give us, and then leave us to draw our own conclusions from what we know. With all this hype about Zen, Polaris, Pascal, or whatever else will happen in the future, I'm glad you're not getting sucked into it. You're a shining example of why we should be hopeful for new tech, but why we should also question everything the tech companies and media tells us. Also, I don't write a lot on UA-cam comments unless it contributes to something meaningful (which UA-cam comment sections usually aren't). This one seemed civil enough, besides, I really want that game (if it's not too late).
I have a feeling that 3rd party vendor cards are going to end up with their prices similar to Nvidia's founder edition. I don't think they're going to pass on a free price hike when the shittier nvidia model is that high.
Completely agree. Sure MSRP is $100 lower, but what aftermarket card is not advertized as having THE BEST cooling solution available etc. I'd totally see EVGA, MSI etc. just using that as a bogus excuse to keep their cards up there in price, maybe undercut Nvidia 10 or 20 bucks. That MSRP will probably be as much on paper as the actual launch was.
I watch a fair few tech channels. Yours is probably the most technically accurate and relevant. Great job. Looking forward to each video... and can't wait to see your Polaris vs Pascal analyses!
This review is far more realistic and gives a proper understanding of whats there and all this without a physical carf yet I find myself taking this review far more seriously thankyou #AdoredTV. count me in for the game also please
Thank you for making these kinds of videos, I'm going to be making my first build relatively soon and your reviews help put things into a very clear perspective.
I like this review of reviews kind of thing. It's a good way of putting all the info out there together. Now, I'm pretty sure the 1080 won't stay at this price for long. I would bet anything that Nvidia is just waiting for AMD to do anything crazy so they can release their 1080Ti. It's probably sitting on some engineer's desk with its 600mm^2 glory, waiting to be released to the masses. It's that and Vega which would be the true, single GPU 4K cards.
Hey Adored, my man! I can't believe you actually went there and said exactly what I had in mind about the GTX 1080. I thought I had my perspective all wrong, thinking that the card is overpriced for its characteristics. I mean, I knew if you have a decently overclocked 980TI or a potentially overclockable Titan X, you don't really need it, but I didn't know about the throttling, or might I say, how bad it is with the 1080. You opened my eyes a bit more. Thank mate :) Cheers!
I looks like some people in the Nvidia subreddit took note of AMD offering to send you products...Best steer clear of that IMO. Better to keep your neutrality. www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/4k9p6o/gtx_1080_founders_edition_reviews_adoredtv/d3dd0tq?context=3
+c3tr4 What, you mean this video? The title is 'reviews', not review. He's showing the results of other reputable websites, and it's clear the Founders Edition is a rip-off compared to the regular version that will be released in the coming months.
+Sheriff Blatz God those guys are idiots. Shame on Adored for getting some recognition from AMD in their reddit. The same post AMDJoe mentioned Adored will get press stuff. Nothing special than the rest of the tech reporters.
+c3tr4 Oh fuck off, he went more detail without a card than people with a card. He presents his information and how he got it. The dam links are in the description.
+Lucretius the main attraction with being able to always get a reference board is for water cooling, so it is generally the people willing to pay more and push things the extra mile
I'm buying multiple reference cards, but they are for a GPU render farm for work. I also need them asap. There are definitely reasons to buy the reference cards, but they are outside of gaming.
Cheers for the video man, glad to see you cut through the hype, always appreciated. Glad you talked about the Gamer's Nexus stuff, gave a good window into what the after-market cards and components would provide.
+AdoredTV Now that's interesting! I guess the next question would be... Would that significantly improve the 1070 or is there a bottleneck somewhere else that it wouldn't be able to take advantage of this? We have the specs for it now at least, but I suspect we'll need benchmarks to know.
Excellent review! And you didn't even have a review unit... I find it alarming just how full of praise the press was with regards to this card, considering the temperature, clock speed and performance issues. And it's selling for north of $700! That's insane! TechReport seem to have taken a more cautious approach to this, can't wait to read their review when it gets published.
Holy shit man your saving me a huge amount of time with these videos, I feel like I don't have to any research anymore. It's hard to find unbiased reviewers like yourself sir. Thank You
And Nvidia fanboys talk about this card like is the second coming of Jesus... Its barely faster than a decently overclocked 980 Ti, for 700 USD. Vega will probably shit on this card, but will it come soon enough for that or will it be overshadowed again by a 1080 Ti or a new Titan?
+LightswrathUltimatum Yes presentation is always important. Still in the end he gives you detailed facts that you have to think about and agreed with on your own. He does not give graphs with unclear markings to deceive you.
I trust him more because he actually looks at everything and breaks it down into easy to understand and logical explanations as opposed to most tech channels and sites that just start orgasming over everything (the 1080 in this case) and saying it's awesome and no issues.
Said it in your video's before and I will say it again, You deserve more subs! Your content and the amount of detail and effort you put in is fantastic!
Great review! I loved the chart on the 4K FPS frames. I can't wait for an SLI benchmark video but those are no where to be found (except a brief one where he tested a 1080p resolution with an SLI...)
+amdsquad I am a bit worried about his safety right now. Few hours later a men in black suits might knock his doors shouting "WTF you nailed our plan 5 days after it went to public and we spend a year and 2B $ to plan it, qq!"
This is just such good quality Content. I can really see that you are putting A LOT of effort and time into your videos and it looks like they are starting to pay off!
i like how you use so many proofs and mathmatics to show what ur on about and the graphs help to simplify, well done m8 another great video looking forward to the next 1
Awesome work on the video! the conclusions are all really interesting. I'm really glad you did the comparison's against overclocked 980ti's and the Titan X.
This Channel got me hooked! The first thing I do every single day when im riding the bus to work is: Check for AMD Polaris information and check for newly posted AdoredTV video's! Please AdoredTV stay like this forever and don't get ever temtped by money paying companies asking you to make reviews in favor of their product! Keep up the great work mate and Cheers from Holland
Thank you AdoredTV for your review, it was a refreshing breeze in the foul smelling pit of reviews the last week. I want reviewers to do a thorough and sincere review who look also on the downsides with realistic benchmarks (Hexus, talking to you! 4 games and one of them with a broken dx12 implementation is no review but a joke!) and not a broken record of the PR slides of their test subjects manufacturer and no or almost no criticism of their new Fanboy Edition. And Techspot really destroyed their credibility with their review and a 100 point perfect score for the GTX 1080. What score do they give then a potential GTX 1080ti if 100 points is their self declared maximum achievable? 101 ???
Thank you for another well researched article. It's becoming very rare these days to see quality reviews for graphics hardware as the hype machines take over.
Really useful. Subscribed to you when I was learning to play Elite and didn't realise you did this kind of video. Checked it out and it's the most informative I've came across. Cheers!
OH, strategy. Would not mind. *Cough* anyway. Good luck with reading all those reviews you mentioned. Shows dedication mate, liking it. You've really been the forefront of new news with AMD v NVIDIA as of late. So big thank you man. Expect a new patron on the 24th man, that's my pay day. ;) Love all the work you done and its showing how ell it is. Sub boost and view boost like hell. Well deserved.
I really like your no bullshit analysis (not really a review) of the 1080, and you make some great points. You're rapidly becoming one of my favorite technology reviewers. And for the record, I'm not interested in the game contest. Give it to someone who will play it, not me.
The OC'd comparison was actually pretty obvious, but somehow not a lot of the press completely missed the connection. Thanks for shining more light on it. And I'd like to enter the giveaway.
Another very good video, I also thought it was suspect that some review sites were giving perf/dollar values based not off the card they were reviewing but off the lower msrp of the (future)AIB cards
Come here from the OC3D video, this is so in depth. Definitely going to wait for the aftermarket cards. That thermal throttle is bullshit, it's MacBook 2015 bullshit. Jesus. Also, gimme dat game dawg o; +1 sub. Keep it up!
Just heard you are working on being on tgw so excited you have quickly become my favorite channel and im really looking forward to hearing your thoughts live
I remember reading the reviews and being taken aback by the temperatures the gtx 1080 founder's edition was reaching. It's nice to see a review that goes into more details on the issue.
Bravo! Great video once again. I really enjoy the depth of your videos. The marketing hype for this card is strong, but luckily for us, your video(s) helps to shed light on whether all the hype is justified or unfounded. Keep up the excellent work. Thumb up from me👍🏿
Finally a detailed, non-biased review of this damn card! You made me feel better on waiting for other aftermarket gpus. I have a water cooled 970. Thanks!
Thanks for the review. All the early hype made it sound like the second coming, so it's great to hear a bit more actual detail. And yeah, throw my name in the hat for the game too! Thanks
So much information that seems to get glossed over by the mainstream press, it's good to have a regular channel like this to keep up to date with all the real world details, thank you as always.
I gave the video a thumbs up. It confirmed with lots of research, what I already suspected from reading a couple of reviews: GTX 1080 "Founder's" is marginally better than a 1400Mhz OC'ed GTX980Ti. However, I have to warn AdoredTV, he has to update this review as soon as AIB's factory overclocked GTX1080, with better coolers came out; I have a feeling our (first) impressions of 1080 will change dramatically, and pretty much confirm a ~30% performance boost going from GM100 to GP104
Awesome stuff as always dude! I'm probably going to pull the plug on buying a new Pc in the next month or so, so hopefully we'll see some good after market coolers for this chip or some more news from amd to hold me out a bit more
It says a lot about your presentation and research that I am firmly convinced of the 1080's obvious flaws, not even six months after I was on the opposite end of the spectrum in full nVidia fanboy mode. It has motivated me to do my own homework and research and to see things a little clearer each time than the last. Thank you for making the content you do! (Duskers is a very good game btw! Good luck to everyone else here!)
Definitely want to wait for partner boards for the 1080. Assuming AMD doesn't wow with Polaris anyway. I'd be upgrading from a 970 so the cost to performance increase definitely seems like a good investment. As for cooling, I run my GTX970 at an overclock beyond the boost to a healthy 1500MHZ, but I also crank the fan up with an aggressive curve, running at about 60% (@70C) to keep that. Even EVGAs ACX2.0 cooler is really loud at those speeds, but I have a secret weapon: Headphones. Also, gimme free game.
Thanks as always for sifting through the hype and giving me information I can use. My OC 980ti numbers are too close to justify an upgrade. I think I'll wait for Vega. Duskers please!
Nice way of calling bullshit on TechSpot's conclusion :P
Love your videos. It's sadly rare and refreshing to see such quality of work and research being put into videos the way you do. Keep it up! :)
Cheers!
I agree!
*Quality > Quantity*
Definitely agree
Agreed.
+FL33T WOOD na. the videos are long so there is still quite a bit of quantity as well
Sorry for not fully watching the video and commenting (i know i'm going to internet hell) but THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING!
+Aaron96235 that being said, their bias for this series of cards is a little ridiculous
Yeah DF is all about nvidia. They cant go deeper in nvidias ass.
Ahh, that's exactly what I was thinking. I was already wondering when the downside of this card will be brought to light (as if the prize wasn't downside enough). Thanks, AdoredTV, for enlightening us!
+sMooVe Cheers bud.
+sMooVe All it took was someone who's never even seen or used the card in person to enlighten you. lmfao sucker.
+c3tr4 your the sucker putting up 700 dollars for a something marginally better
+c3tr4 97% thumbs up disagree with you. So that means even a huge part of Nvidia fanboys finally got it
+c3tr4 The only sucker here is you, who would prefer to pay attention to very obvious biased reviews it seems.
+John Duthie
Hardware Canucks is sponsored by NVIDIA, so what do you expect?
+AdoredTV My crystal ball prediction:
Cool news! You have a hands on Polaris review!!! Glad the AMD connection has worked out, you deserve it.
That's what they do well along with enthusiast level graphics cards.(crossfire fury X owner here)
Thankfully AMD seems to always be Bette run the long run for card life and increased performance. I'm really excited for my fury x's performance come end of 2017 when Vulcan starts seeing games built ground up for it.
Jonathan Bruckman
As a double Fury X owner, did you have problems installing your double rads into the case?
+Moorish Brutha I am gonna laugh if a 490/x comes out and stomps the crap out of a 1080 G "force" DX12
damn. Love that movie Troy
Love your videos, the only true reviewer of GPUs on the internet.
+bertotrbn Cheers!
+bertotrbn That is what im saying! :) Cheers!
+bertotrbn I like Nexus too, that guy is serious about what he does.
+bertotrbn I love his reviews too, man. Always super informative and explains in a way that even a moron like me can understand. He doesn't even have the graphics card itself to review, lol.
+Marcelo Tezza agree with that gamer nexus is an awesome reviewer as well
AdoredTV, you are a reviewer of reviewers! Amazing!
+TrueGamer007 Biased of the most biased
+TrueGamer007 Cheers bud.
+Aaron96235 Well, you can't really blame the reviewers so much... it's hard to be critical about the guys who flew you over to Texas and pulled all the stops to make sure you were as -high- happy as possible when they revealed their graphics card.
Nvidia really starts behaving like Apple and charges premium prices for their stuff.....waiting for Vega out of this
+Markus “IceY” Eisenhammer I just hope AMD releases a card for like 299$ with performance close to 980ti, crossfire that shit and laugh at 1080 fanboys, no need for vega.
We still have no confirmation if this Pascal is capable of asynchronous shaders. If not we can already laugh at buyers of this expensive shiny crap.
Ive said Nvidia is acting like Apple, not that they have deals with Apple mate.
this is why i always wait for adoredtv's explanation. The most logical explanation I can get on youtube :D
Please never change how you do your videos. The quality, unbiased, and thorough nature of them is amazing and I think I speak for everyone when I say we really appreciate them! Always happy to see one of your videos pop up in my feed. Cheers mate
No need to upgrade my 980Ti. Thanks from Dumfries, bud.
+Paul Finch I have a 28" 4K display myself and I agree mostly.
28" and lower QHD is fine. 31", 40", etc, 4K is a Godsend.
thanks for rationalizing the hype of the card. Hope we get more info on the 1070 soon, since that one might be more in my budget.
thus far I've subscribed to and watched a lot of youtube tech channels in an effort to make as informed a decision as possible whenever I feel the need to upgrade a piece of hardware with regards to cars and computer shtuffis.
+Pryce Newberg Cheers!
+Pryce Newberg I got sick of cultofmush's uninformed hyping of all things nvidia and unsubbed (he told people the FE would be better at overclocking than the $599 versions and was telling people up to preorder lol)
+Pryce Newberg I always felt the cultofmush always talked about NVIDIA more than AMD
Get back up there and watch the video!
Bringing down the truth-hammer once again, great vid bud!
I only discovered your channel a little while back, but I have to admit that you are now one of my favourite tech youtubers, mainly due to the fact that you explain things in a clear and unbiased manner. Cheers!
I wonder why Nvidia didnt send you get a 1080.
Your channel is much larger than many others which managed to get their hands on one.
+PENDANTturnips Because he's not HYPER HYPER enough for Nvidia.
Because AdoredTV is honest.
being too honest has it toll
It's a small price to pay. He gets many viewers 'in return'.
AbgezocktXD That acctualy is a surprising great response.
Have an awesome day too!
+AbgezocktXD You can definitely see a difference with AA in 4k. It does vary by game though.
Ye really deserve a pair of 0s at the end of that subscriber count. Keep up the good work ;)
NVIDIA truly mastered the art of polishing turds.
+Justin Colley We know Nvidia is good in marketing, discrediting the opponent seem to work back then, now will die from its own weapon?
+Justin Colley I own a Sapphire 390X and with an overclock of 1150 MHz on the core and 7 GHz effective on the ram playing Witcher 3 my temps don't go above 67 Celsius. Running stock settings they top out about 62-65 C
+Justin Colley No, this video is about the Founder's Edition, not the GTX 1080.
+Justin Colley ASUS or Gygabite just need to put better cooler on it
I watch a lot of tech channels, but you sir are by far my favorite one. you look farther than the graphs that the press and tech companies give us, and then leave us to draw our own conclusions from what we know.
Cheers! Gonna run the game contest today. ;)
+AdoredTV aww nuts, I forgot to say cheers... Cheers!
Somehow I feel this guy could disprove gravity... and be right about it too! Amazing videos mate! :)
+Anon ymous Cheers!
This review is far more realistic and gives a proper understanding of whats there and all this without a physical carf yet I find myself taking this review far more seriously thankyou #AdoredTV.
count me in for the game also please
pascal is maxvel on steroids
+Shahnewaz Ahmed This. And its actually worser in clock for clock performance.
yes it is interesting
+Eduard Marcinek Worse IPC than Maxwell, technically. But yeah... the amount of performance you get from stock clock to 2000 mhz and/or more is shit.
There are guys who already tested oc 980ti vs oc 1080 and the difference was minimal. Oc 980ti actually get closer to oc 1080.
Thank you for making these kinds of videos, I'm going to be making my first build relatively soon and your reviews help put things into a very clear perspective.
You are reviewing reviewers! Nice video!
+MatzeGamer Cheers bud.
Your videos always bring me back down to Earth, thanks for the consistent quality!
+Sheriff Blatz well send him 10 dollars so he can I did
+Sheriff Blatz This guy is hardly neutral at all, he's reviewing products he's never used or seen in person himself.
+c3tr4 What, you mean this video? The title is 'reviews', not
review.
The quality of your wok has not dropped at all. I hope you get a lot more subscribers you deserve them. Also hope I can get that game :)
Well the founders eddition is just a gimmick, No point talking about it. Most people are not buying one of those.
+Lucretius Some people have too much money & don't know how to spend it... it's for them.
+Advection357 Those people will probably buy 2 and try SLI. Poor sods with too much money.
It's seriously good to see honest reviews/analysis here, keep it up AdoredTV!
so does this mean we can now start making fun of the GTX 1080 for temps like everybody does with amd
Yes :)
+sixsixsixjet Well its not the first time that Nvidia have had a hot running GPU, fermi cards come to mind.
It's hotter then a 290x lol not even kidding
+sixsixsixjet By all means, taunt away.
+sixsixsixjet It's not quite that bad yet lol. That 290X blower was something else entirely...
Cheers for the video man, glad to see you cut through the hype, always appreciated. Glad you talked about the Gamer's Nexus stuff, gave a good window into what the after-market cards and components would provide.
So if partners could theoretically use GDDR5 instead of GDDR5X on the 1080, could they also choose to use GDDR5X instead of GDDR5 on the 1070?
+Mike Malkin Very good question!
+Mike Malkin Yes.
+Mike Malkin But boy, wouldn't Nvidia be pissed at them! 😂😂😂
+AdoredTV
Now that's interesting!
I guess the next question would be...
Would that significantly improve the 1070 or is there a bottleneck somewhere else that it wouldn't be able to take advantage of this?
We have the specs for it now at least, but I suspect we'll need benchmarks to know.
But the real question is, will it benefit from the increased memory bandwidths?
Excellent review! And you didn't even have a review unit...
I find it alarming just how full of praise the press was with regards to this card, considering the temperature, clock speed and performance issues. And it's selling for north of $700! That's insane!
TechReport seem to have taken a more cautious approach to this, can't wait to read their review when it gets published.
Impressive, keep on calling these reviewer sites bullshit, you're our wallet's last line of defense!
I absolutely love your videos. Your break downs of technical & marketing jargon are fantastic. Keep them coming.
Dude i trust you the most out of all reviewers for some reason. Maybe its your accent.
+Adam Nelson It's really easy for me, it's about the tech. ;) I think I'm immue to marketing somehow so all I see is the tech basically.
+CanadianLoki76 I guess that's true because this is obviously his only video and has never praised noviciate or talked negative about amd
Said it in your video's before and I will say it again, You deserve more subs! Your content and the amount of detail and effort you put in is fantastic!
£620 for this is ridiculous!
Great review! I loved the chart on the 4K FPS frames. I can't wait for an SLI benchmark video but those are no where to be found (except a brief one where he tested a 1080p resolution with an SLI...)
After taking a closer look GTX 1080 ain't so sweet anymore
+amdsquad I am a bit worried about his safety right now. Few hours later a men in black suits might knock his doors shouting "WTF you nailed our plan 5 days after it went to public and we spend a year and 2B $ to plan it, qq!"
This is just such good quality Content. I can really see that you are putting A LOT of effort and time into your videos and it looks like they are starting to pay off!
3 view club :)
Like always, I love the detailed information and the dedication and time you put forth to bring us quality informative videos
I found your channel about a month ago and I always look forward to a new video from you. Nice job!
Sweet video man, I can't wait to hear you speculate about 10nm and 7nm improvements too.
Your video's are great! Thanks Adored - Tek syndicate also had a low level of fauning in their review of this card.
Subscribed! Not sure why i haven't earlier. I wish more reviewers took your approach as you cut the crap and get to the point. Great video!
i like how you use so many proofs and mathmatics to show what ur on about and the graphs help to simplify, well done m8 another great video looking forward to the next 1
+jason roberts Cheers bud!
Again, I really like your videos how are so in depth and thorough. Keep up the great work.
I truly respect your reviews and theories. I am glad I ran into this channel. Kudos
Thank you for another well researched article. It's becoming very rare these days to see quality reviews for graphics hardware as the hype machines take over.
Really useful. Subscribed to you when I was learning to play Elite and didn't realise you did this kind of video. Checked it out and it's the most informative I've came across. Cheers!
+Avaris Cheers!
Nice sum of the reviews, and also nice to hear that you are getting those Polaris cards to bench. (I'm good at guessing.)
Thank you for the great summary! :) I really appreciate all the work you put into your videos and a non biased view on technology! :)
Always a great day when i see an upload from your channel in my feed :) Keep up the good work
I am always sure to watch your videos for perspective. You seem to navigate around all the hype, marketing sugar-coating, and give us reliable facts.
Come here from the OC3D video, this is so in depth. Definitely going to wait for the aftermarket cards. That thermal throttle is bullshit, it's MacBook 2015 bullshit. Jesus. Also, gimme dat game dawg o; +1 sub. Keep it up!
Keep it up man! Glad to see someone who isn't afraid to read and print between the lines.
Just heard you are working on being on tgw so excited you have quickly become my favorite channel and im really looking forward to hearing your thoughts live
Cheers bud, I just need to fix up a few things with my environment here first. ;)
sounds good
I remember reading the reviews and being taken aback by the temperatures the gtx 1080 founder's edition was reaching.
Thumb up from me👍🏿
You know what they say about all work and no play.
It makes Jacky boy a dull boy.
Really like your videos, it's obvious that you have put time and effort into them. Can't wait for Polaris and your thoughts on it/them!
Finally a detailed, non-biased review of this damn card! You made me feel better on waiting for other aftermarket gpus. I have a water cooled 970. Thanks!
Love the videos! Your voice makes it easy to listen to and your analysis is interesting and rational. Keep it up!
thanks man. I really enjoy listening to what information you provide in your videos
I'm happy that you exist.
P.S. Can you make more pc build videos, or more AMD Vega videos?
Thanks for the review. All the early hype made it sound like the second coming, so it's great to hear a bit more actual detail.
And yeah, throw my name in the hat for the game too! Thanks
So much information that seems to get glossed over by the mainstream press, it's good to have a regular channel like this to keep up to date with all the real world details, thank you as always.
I gave the video a thumbs up. It confirmed with lots of research, what I already suspected from reading a couple of reviews: GTX 1080 "Founder's" is marginally better than a 1400Mhz OC'ed GTX980Ti.
However, I have to warn AdoredTV, he has to update this review as soon as AIB's factory overclocked GTX1080, with better coolers came out; I have a feeling our (first) impressions of 1080 will change dramatically, and pretty much confirm a ~30% performance boost going from GM100 to GP104
love your reviews, can't wait for a vega/1080 comparison
Always the best place to get good, informative reviews.
really appreciate you cutting through all the hype and data and give it for what it is.
So after i put ~2hrs into watching/reading reviews you can still say something new. Awesome vid man, never change.
