How? I'm trying to venture into this world.. Currently run a tire warehouse, but my in laws own it .. Everyone keeps telling me to branch off, take one of the box trucks & go make REAL $$$
excellent video bro. I had a 26ft box Truck OTR. Let me tell you something folks. Its all good untill you stuck on the side of the road thousands of miles from home. Paying for Hotels, Towing Expenses and Truck repairs while you wait to get your truck back moving.oh and they charge you w.e they want because they know you far from home:) Sprinter van/cargo van local work. Better balanced life for your drivers and you can scale because its predictable income every week. nobody is going to sleep in vans going over the road for you missing time away from home. I wouldnt even do that for myself lol. Love your videos bro lets gooooo
Two things that separates OTR to local work is doing 30+ stops a day compared to 1 and not touching it. As well as negotiating for more per Mile , while the route is set in stone. Big ups bro been watching for a while! 👍
My old man loved OTR in his CO Peterbuilt. It came a lot of perks because he was a tanker driver. My son just left OTR to become local. He’s much happier because he’s at home every night. Great video!
Literally the information I’ve been looking for. Working a few apps now and will be scaling after I buy my sprinter. Thanks for posting this. Truely helpful. Funny cause it can be a small bit of information that one needs to hear to gain a whole lot of clarity. Marine here SEMPER FI
Hey Tony, I really enjoy the content that you share. Your videos are inspirational. I hope to get started soon in Alabama. There are only about five or six cargo drivers that I really listen to. Keep those videos coming.
Thank you brother! I really appreciate that. This is where I get my motivation from! I wish you much success & if you have any future questions, I’m here for you brother 💪 don’t rush it, take your time. Plan & execute!
He'll yeah, I have an STI hatch. Was thinking of selling her to buy a van. But we need more info on how to find these local contracts. I'm in indy. Should be a hotspot
Hi Tony, I would like to thank you for sharing your experience I felt it's too honest and real I appreciate it ! I do have a qoustion would you prefer particulare GIG apps to work with? I'm new to the business and your advice is highly appreciate it! Thank you brother !
Download as many as you can and sign up. Some apps perform better than others depending on location. Plus, the more apps the more chances of getting a load.
I want to get into local but I live in a smaller city and there doesn’t seem to be much local stuff. But have really been looking into it all especially after January 1. I’m trying to get out of warehouse.
Take your time and don’t rush into things, as I explained in this video, do your research and see which is best for you. OTR isn’t a bad idea if you can’t find contracts locally. What about gig apps, how do they perform in your city?
@ not good with a car. I don’t have a bigger vehicle as of yet. I know a lady that has contracts that will pay me under the radar unless I tell her I want a 1099. But other than foot delivery apps all I have is Amazon flex that I know of. I’m in Kansas City mo/ks
Bro, I’m kind of skeptical doing the gig apps in January and February with the snow I live in Michigan…… my van is RWD …. my question is do you put snow tire how do you get past through those months? Thanks, my bro.
I was my first year. Just make sure all maintenance is up to date, nice good winter tires and hope for the best. Usually where I am they clean the snow/roads in matter of hours. What worries the most is the icy roads and accidents. Plus gig apps you choose when to work, if it’s too risky, don’t come out although that’s when they pay the most.
@@sabettjus2338 for sure. My driver had a small accident last year driving the RWD, he’ll be doing the smaller route this year with the FWD van. Can’t risk it 😂
The only OTR i would do is a regional 16-26 foot box truck booking my own loads. I currently run a chevy astro only on gig apps but i am close to getting a contract because the gig app game is done imo. Im hoping to run it for about a year to see how much i can make and move up to a bigger van. Truth be told, I'm looking to do things by myself with my wife helping me because good luck finding great, reliable drivers. If not, im just going to go and do fedex ground while growing my ebay side hustle.
Very true. It’s so hard finding good drivers that will do things right and take care of the cargo van etc. I plan to have my wife working with me in the future as I expand. What’s your eBay side hustle? Put me on!
@@Tony.Ruiz08 i started selling everything and am transitioning to selling media such as dvds and music. Reselling is so damn interesting because you get what you put in. Its exactly like the cargo van game, in which the more work you put in, the more rewards you will get down the line.
Gotta question do you ride your transit in the parkways on the highway. Ive seen some cargo vans do it but I never wanna chance it with NYC state troopers.
If you going OTR, find out the requirements and which van will be best. If you wanna do local contracts, find if there’s a demand for it. Find work before you buy the van. If gig apps, find out which app work best in your area.
Hey Tony, I wanna get into this but don't wanna go all in without any knowledge. I've watched most your videos but one question I have is about contracts, specifically how is it broken down as in the pay, is it negotiable, how long are typical contracts? If anyone reads this basically please explain how do these contracts work.
Let’s say you apply somewhere and they got one route available. Usually you’ll see a list of stops and locations. You bid for the route based on your calculations. One time bid and that’s it. once you acquire it, you may try to negotiate the rate in the future or add stops for more money.
@@Tony.Ruiz08 southern California, but Im not in a major city. Rural desert area, and I dont have the option to move unless I give up custody of my kids, which would be a cold day in hell. There is a little bit of Roadie activity but thats it. I finally got my DOT authority but Im having a hell of a time finding loads as I have no contacts yet.
You will regret it when the temperature gets really cold if you buy an electric van, it'll lose charge quicker and takes longer to charge meanwhile you'll be losing money
These are contracts. I stopped doing Gig apps. It’s a lot of opportunities in the tristate are. Apply to as many places as you can, use indeed, it’s a great tool to find contracts.
@@Tony.Ruiz08 First things first I would suggest that someone should consider what thier wants, interests and needs happen to be and compare that to the level of commitment that they are willing to make. Without the commitment to your rig and your wallet OTR would be a waste of time and money. No matter what, safety first... Yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Stay local, I make 20k weekly. With 4 cargo vans & 16ft box truck.
Wow that seems sweet. Definitely the goal, scale up and add more vans. But I gotta find some good drivers first. Good drivers are gold.
