Subnautica | How far can you really sail? Dead zone. Edge of the map
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 січ 2022
- People who have played Subnautica often think that the game has no map edge. But you can't swim away from the main location through the dead zone indefinitely either, because the game has a rather tricky restriction in the form of a ghostly leviathan that will attack until you die.
However, I was interested in trying to get around this restriction, and find the edge of the map in Subnautica, if it exists. In this video, I show you what I got out of it

the fact he did this in survival earns anyones respect
true
I totally Agree with you xD
I've done this a couple of times for the fun of it in survival mode, personally I don't think the game should be played any other way besides survival and if you're brave then hardcore mode. Game is not as fun without the survival challenges but thats just my personal preferance.
lmao cringe. It's just a game man. It's not like he's actually risking his life. Who cares.
@@janegoodall1837 You sound boring, obviously they're not really risking their real life, but in the game they are, which is kind of the point...
When he said “look very carefully” I was certain I was about to get troll jump scared
same lmfao and I went to the comments section to confirm my suspicions
or rick roll
Me too🤣
SO DID I OMG
I WAS LIKE CYBER FOX I AM *TRUSTING YOU*
The devs should have had a bit of fun for players wanting to swim to the edge, like making some truly thalassophobia inducing creatures exclusively for the edge (non-canon essentially, just for the fun of it).
*casually puts a singular Titan leviathan next game at 8000m*
@@lovethewicked1367
"Oh, what's that? You're not afraid of the ocean!? Well, why don't we go ahead and fix that."
@@lovethewicked1367 I assume you’re talking about the Gargantuan Leviathan, that shit would be scary as fuck seeing the Ghost leviathans run away as a 2 Kilometer long behemoth comes and swallows you whole.
Yeah we need sum real cheek clapping monstas out der.
Saying it like game was not thalassophobic enough already.
I believe that the ghost leviathans leaving you for a bit is because the maps biomes "loop". I was doing something similar to this but I had the F1 menu open and could see what biome im in and it kept saying biomes such as crash zone and safe shallows. That also explains the water color.
I think you are right. I also noticed the color of the water when they attacked me again.
porksword is that you?
@@ratfish76 nope, no idea who that is
@@cyberfox_play if you are inside an observatory in the dead zone, the ghost leviathans won't spawn because the observatory counts as its own biome
@@ratfish76 Lol hey fellow ifunny retard
After seeing many videos from Subnautica, here is what I've learned so far from it :
1. There is Dead Zone.
2. There is these Leviathan things.
3. There's some water and stuff
4. There's a funny Place called the Dunes
4. There is a Sky
it's not that fun when you kill all the reaper leviathans in your map@@aideyragegoblin407
I love the ocean I really do love to go diving but this game triggers my childhood fear of what lurks beneath the waves in the dark water. Hate it but kudos to you for discovering the border of the game
Thank you. Yes, this game is fascinating, but sometimes scary...
This game has actually done the opposite for me, and now I want to try and experience diving for myself❤️
@@cadec5638 I'm a scuba diver in real life and I cannot begin to express how well designed the "thalassophobia" is in subnautica. it simulates the real deal very well.
i used to fear getting swallowed whole by a whale.
What they should’ve done, I think, is have a cut scene at the 8000 meter point, where you encounter a giant Warper and he launches an impossible to avoid wormhole that teleports you all the way back to the beginning.
I think they should’ve added something similar to the “abyss islands” in Barotrauma. Not many people know of that game, so I’ll explain them. The abyss islands are land masses that generate in the abyss, which is below the map. In the abyss you will find creatures far stronger, faster, and larger than what you could normally find. However, if you can evade these threats, you can reach little islands full of rare and expensive resources to collect.
I think it would be interesting if they added something similar that could have many rare resources or fragments (fragments wouldn’t make much sense, but it would be even cooler if you added story elements to it, like a previous expedition and more ruined habitats)
Subnautica modders, please make something like that. It would be very cool. Perhaps a new sub that could go into the depths of the void too? That would be pretty epic
The Atlas
theres a mod which would make this a lot more difficult and its about the gargantuan leviatan which is a massive creature that is only on the void
Lucky for you Subnautica: Call of The Void is exactly what you’re looking for
Like the layers of the Abyss in the Terraria Calamity mod?
The fact that the game teleports you back to the capsule when you go 8.000 meters deep in the void and this proves there is most likely a giant barrier box around the game world that teleports you back to the middle every time
Are you Einstein?
especially considering the same thing happens when you go past depth 8192, so we can assume it probably goes up that high as well. now just to test that.
For the bravest of souls, you can also try going down 8000 meters, and it will teleport you all the way back up to the kelp forest or something. This can be useful if you make a mistake and are forced to fall because of a save lock or something. So I guess depending on how far out you go, it will eventually just tp you back.
I already tried it and I even have a video on this topic where I showed some interesting points
When he said look very closely,i putted the one close to my face expecting a leviathan to jump him or something lol.
the fact you do all these subnautica experiment vids in survival is insane. you’ve earned my respect - and a sub
When it started to say 'look very carefully' I was almost certain I was about to get rickrolled, it just felt like one of those videos
Same; it had my spider senses tingling if know what I mean.
Is there a limit to depth and how far can you go from the map in older versions?
I'm not sure, but most likely the dive is subject to the same restriction - about 8100 meters
Yup! Going down 8192 meters teleports you near 0 0 0, and going 8192 meters in any horizontal direction from 0 0 0 teleports you near 0 0 0. The Lifepod normally wont spawn at 0 0 0, hence why the horizontal meters are different for each person!
before the update of the Ghost leviathans and Dead zone there was actually a bottom at i think it was 3000 +/- meters deep
@@thesins7094 I assume you mean when the bottom was a flat texture, iirc the lava zone also had the same thing before it was finished
There IS a version where you can go infinitly
before leviathins you could get the sea moth underneath the world.. it was creapy like being in the backrooms. endless roaring and just a rock surface
8147 is what it said before teleporting.
As you go deeper in the ecological dead zone, 3 of them spawn.
Very well done, congrats for reaching the edge of the map, terrifying as hell
you have all of my respect for doing this in survival
Just saw an exploit for the Gravity Gun with wich you can fly, well Im gonna test that myself and see how it worked out
Well what happened?
@@Protont Sadly didnt have the time to do it yet, its night in my country right now and I hope I have time for it tomorrow
Well what happened?
*which
Yeah you can stand on items and fly with them (land crabs work best), it’s the first thing I tried when I made one
The same thing happens when you go down at the edge of the map, when you leave the ocean's bottom, you go down around 8000 meters and BAM teleport near the capsule.
I was launched in a hardcore mode by a Reaper Leviathan, so high I could see the square of the game, landed outside the 'influence' of where the Ghost Leviathans spawn. I tried swimming back, died as soon as the Ghosty's appeared. If I knew I could go the opposite way, I would have. My cousin got glitched under the map by a Sea Dragon, went down 8000 meters deep, kept repairing his cyclops and getting in, he popped back to LifePod 5.
It might have an actual explanation why the leviathans just leave after u swam out far enough but honestly i like to think that they leave bc they KNOW there is smth bigger than them that could easily kill them
Apparently the biomes within the crater end up looping at a certain distance from the Lifepod, hence why the Ghost Leviathans leave you alone for a bit
Although it would be pretty cool if they were scared off because of the Gargantuan Leviathan
Considering Subnautica is still receiving updates we may eventually see a live Garg
It's small details like this that make an amazing game.
ghost leviathans when Ryley swims out too far "finally, some good fucking food"
True thalassophobia is going past the ghost leviathans in an autonomous cyclop, stopping it, going outside and seeing absolutely nothing around.
It's also the only place you can actually go down to 1700 m. It gets pitch black.
That's pretty much what going to the bottom of the Void does- my brother reached the bottom a couple of times, and it just teleported him back to the surface
"But then they were left me alone again" I spotted the German! ;)
it is possible to do this even fast as well with using super sea glide with some extra batteries you can simply outrun all ghost leviathans without having to take damage at all but the same result will happen with teleporting to 0,0
I wonder what the edge looks like at the bottom of the void
there is no bottom, sadly.
This is what i think subnautica lacks. proper void and things on the edge.
I would like some biomes detected like 2-3kms bellow the ocean in the void. there is also a mod for this, didnt try it out tho
There is no bottom in the game. When you dive to about 8000 you will be thrown back near the starting position. But now I want to check one thing about this, if I find something interesting, then maybe I will make a video on this topic later
@@cyberfox_play there is a decent mod for some biome in void, you could check it out, its decent 😉
@@Macho_._ okay, I'll look for it. Thank you!
@@cyberfox_play i think IGP made video about and called the perlin void mod i might be wrong tho
You can get around that teleport by using some launching glitches, I have reached that end. There is an invisible wall that freezes you if you touch it and nothing else :/
damn that would've been nice seeing the big leviathan that we've seen bones of in Lost River lol.
good to know!, worth a like!
this vidoe was very good and deserves a like
video*
If you take a prawn suit and do a glitch where you enter a vehicle with your held item (repair tool) and jump into the void at the same depth as the barrier you also get spawned in the safe shallow
back in 2014 instead of endless water there was just a giant wall of sand that looked like the far lands. also this is not new many people discovered this it because if you went far enough yes it is endless so after long enough something really creepy would happen all of the sounds would stop or keep going very glitchy and your graphics would act weird and soon you would crash with an error code Piston_33 or something so that's why when you go to a certain point it Teleports you back somewhere in a 200 metre Radius of your lifepod.
That’s my worst nightmare having a giant sea monster rise from below and kill me and I blame finding memo for my fear of the ocean
Here's another fun one to do that I know and has never know anyone elce to do but to go as deep as you can (do it in survival) your going to need maxs out cyclope and prawn suit. Just keep going down until your ship is about to blow then you go into prawn suit. The your teleported into the map it's cool and a very hard challenge
I already have two videos on the channel on the topic of depth research.
I have already did this, fr away from the edge of the map. It was huge and thing a bit square-like because the map didn't support the environment build and everything was dark.
I did the same thing, but I tested how far down you can go into the abyss. At about 800 meters down you will pop back up at the surface and it will be around where you start also. Very interesting. 😀
Pretty sure its 8000 like the creator said
wish they had added some ridiculously big things in the furthest parts of the map bc the ghost leviathans just arent scary
I agree with the first part, but saying that ghost leviathans aren't scary is like announcing that you're a lifeless husk with no emotions 😭
thanks for not jump scaring us.
Same thing happens if you try to go as deep as you can, think i've reach like 8200m and it drop me near the capsule. Done in survival for funs with dropping prawn from cyclop and last 200m with seaglide
CyberFox: Somethin interesting happened
Me: Panik!
CyberFox: look very carefuly
Me: Panik intensifies!
I have done the same with Cyclops using the shield generator a decoy and 12 Ion power Cells. lot of work but worth the trouble
My cousin went down through that void area in the prawn suit, at the bottom of the map it's just a flat bottom and when you fall off the bottom you go to about 8k meters deep and then it teleports you
Judging from other comments, this comment is not 🧢
In early access i had a bug where my prawn collided with my cyclops and sent the ship 29048458 meters away from me, so god knows how actually big is the world
Got to love people scouting the edge of the map like REAL explorers. That Dora the explorer moment. Lol
Amazing! That was found out in 2022?
I did the same experiment but with a sea glider, luckily dodged them once, then never came back to me
took a while though
I was interested if the dead zone had a nest somewhere in there where all the ghost leviathans breed or hatch their eggs or something that relates to the Adult ghost leviathans
Lost river juveniles and baby gls are in the lost but once they get big enough they will leave and go to the void although only 3 have made it as the others either die of starvation which isn’t likely as they feed on micro organisms as said in the pda if you actually survive long enough to scan one or they die to a different ghost leviathan or since they leave the lost and go to the void they would have to go to the shallows to get there where a reaper most likely killed it took what it wanted and left the rest for other carnivores which would be why you never see gl corpses
@@Ghostiekidsrule please use symbols because sentences like these are difficult to unveil and it hurts to look at them and it isn't hard to put a dot at the end of a sentence when it feels right and start a new one as I've mentioned full stops and commas help make sentences better understandable and actually make a big difference in what a sentence means so yeah that's why you should use them
@@skeptic_lemon says that without a single one in yours
@@mynamestwi Notice how he said "sentences like _these_ ". He was doing it on purpose
When you said 8000m i knew what was about to happen
Im pretty sure they stop attacking you for a while because the maps biomes loop once you past the deadzone, judging by the change in water color at least
"Look very carefully", boom teleportation haha
feels like a sience channel for subnautica lol
Alternate title: escaping neon snake with a submarine
i wouldnt mind a beefy update expanding to the void
When I was trying to do this on creative and with cyclops i swimmed 10000 metres away from capsule before game teleported me back.
depends on where your capsule spawns it has more locations
Could also depend on wether you were going diagonally in relation to the box around the map. The distance from the middle to the edge is smaller than the distance between the middle and corner.
@@Pepi_Kral i know, but i think there isnt a 2km difference between these locations
@@tighoster i was heading at floating island
Man did it take a while to traverse 5000 meters? That’s like how big a sea king is sappose to be in one piece
but wait once something happened to me, i had some cameras out while stalkers was close to it, one stalker bugged out gone 180k meter away with it... am i gonna get it back? lol
I may be wrong, but it seems that the game has a limit on the depth of immersion - about 8100 meters. However, I heard that this does not apply to cameras from the scan room. Not exactly sure. I'll try it one of these days and tell you for sure. Maybe even make a video.
So thats where the animals in subnautica with the speed of light go
@@Scammers-Suck no most of them that go at the speed of light just end up unloading since you're too far from them. the stalkers don't unload cause i think the camera stops it from unloading
I made it a little over 8000 meters away from the starting capsule with the seamoth, without seeing any leviathans... The I just got bored and quit. I wish I would have continued just a little bit more to see this happen myself 😕
yooo i went here on accident looking for the island where the alien structure thing is, i got lost and swam into nowhere. i used that machine that helps you swim faster with the map, and when i turned it on it was just a dot, no map. so i was like ‘then where tf am i’ and i turn around.
worst mistake of my life
with the seamoth you should've done the repair tool glitch
Plot twist: You just circled the entire planet
my guess is that the games positional grid is that the game has capped the coordinates at 8192 Meters from the null point in every direction as thats a power of 2 (2^13=8192) and its very common that Map editors(for example UE4) give you power of 2 as size options, because it makes for more clean memory allocation(addressal of which is binary so if you have sizes that make "clean" numbers in binary(so all numbers in a range of say 13 digits(so 2^13 numbers))) and that once you get out of this "play area" the game throws you back. other than that it might be a rollover of the positioning system but that seems rather unlikely.
The fact that you did this on a Switch is incredible in itself lol
What makes you think I did this on the Switch? I play on PC
it happends the same thing for me when i did the OOB glitch with the vehicule bay when i got to -8000M it teleported me back to the surface
in my old subnautica world i got like 4k meters thanks to a glitch it was in my first sea moth thankfully i got it back at the sacrifice of another seamoth
I checked it in 0.25 speed. The farthest you can go is 8149 meters away from your life pod.
Subnautica flat earth confirmed!
You fell off the edge and ended up back where you started.
bro they could make after it teleports you that pda says : Sorry, you must buy Below Zero.
and if someone has below zero it would just save and enter below zero
now I wonder, is the edge square or a circle around the initial point?
And also, why 8100 meters? is there anything hidden there?
I'll try swimming in different directions later and tell you. But I think that the constraint is made in the form of a sphere. Because the same restriction applies to immersion. Most likely, in whatever direction I swim, it will always drop about 8100 meters, and this is easiest to do using a collider sphere
So, I tried sailing Northwest near the surface and was teleported back about 8100 meters from the start capsule. After that, I swam again, but at a depth of 1700 meters (critical diving depth for a Cyclops). So I walked about 8700 meters from the capsule before I was teleported back.
Apparently I was wrong. The constraint does not act as a sphere, but as a box. The distance is the same in all directions, but at depth I can travel a greater distance because I am moving along the hypotenuse.
most likely it compares you coordinates x, y and z and if any of those get to 8192 it teleports you back to 0,0,0
I’m addicted
If you go down 8000 meters then you also get dropped back near the drop pod
Just like the depth limit for 8,000 meters
Why do you do all of these tests in survival? You’d be fully immune to damage and wouldn’t need to think about thirst and hunger if you just did them in a creative file
Creativity is for the weak.
I wonder if you disable the teleport trigger how far can you really go
As far as Your RAM goes I suppose.
i went all the way to 8192 meters from the pod in my cyclops in survival
nice
once you pass 8000m the game warps you back to the safe shallows
Fyi Same thing happens if you go down for 9km (9000m)... It spits you out next to your pod at sea level. Lol
maybe its not a script, maybe when you touch the border you get instantly teleported to somewhat centeral of the map/spawn
That’s like if you go down 8,192 meters because the same thing happens, I think it’s so you don’t travel to far from the life pod.
Not certainly in that way. I tried sailing North, Northwest and West near the surface and each time was teleported back about 8100 meters from the start capsule. After that, I swam again, but at a depth of 1700 meters (critical diving depth for a Cyclop) and it was about 8700 meters from the capsule before I was teleported back.
Maybe the constraint act as a box. The distance is the same in all directions, but at depth I can travel a greater distance because I am moving along the hypotenuse.
So I think the start capsule has nothing to do with it.
Yeah, maybe your right. But, I did see a speedymouse video of him going 8,192 meters down. He was instantly teleported to the area around the safe shallows.
Maybe they've left room for new areas
Maybe one day with quantum physic computer, devs will be able to make open world games as huge as our own world... XD
0:25 literal worst nightmare
Instead of making a weird 2nd game with so many glitches and problems and so much room for improvement without mods that they could have done in the first game...why could they not just expand the 1st game instead since the map is so incredibly huge? That seems better...
8148 meters away from the lifepod
I wonder if the border surrounding the map is a circle or a square? You went directly West, and reached about 8000 meters. If you'd gone diagonally, such as southwest or some similar direction, would you reach the same distance? Similarly, this would likely apply to the void, although dropping diagonally is harder than dropping directly down. But the border would be, in reality, either a sphere or a cube.
Well i would have medi it so you loop around from other side of map at some point
The game does have a clear edge, it stops at about 8100 meters for depth and width
Instead of trying to swim to China you tried swimming to Subnautica Below Zero
I thought he would make it to below zero map
What if you Delete the script from the game files?
that is if your on computer
So you're saying if I go far enough, imma get titan powers...
Nope nope nope. The Ghost leviathan's roars literally sound screams of damned souls.
At that point the biome is called
I did it with a glitch that i spawned aa few reapers and they glitched and threw me really far and i got stuck in The air
I can't be the only one that finds this game horrifying in every way fuck the ocean man
I used super jump glitch and stuck in the border of map lol
