  • This is a metal detecting hunt that I did at Crystal Beach, FL. It's located just south of Tarpon Springs FL which is north west of Tampa FL. There was a large amount of glass the first time I hunted this beach so if you ever go there, wear shoes!
    Squeaker my metal detector is a Fisher Labs F19 (Thank you Russ @ First Texas Products!)
    Rex my scoop is a 8 inch T-Rex scoop.
    I also have a Raptor Handle (from The Gold Digger Metal Detectors; Thanks Ron!) golddiggermetaldetectors.com/
    My pin pointer is the Land or Sea (also from The Gold Digger Metal Detectors; Thanks Ron!) golddiggermetaldetectors.com/
    Seeker is my Garrett Pin Pointer AT
    My digger pouch is the Digger Pouch (also from The Gold Digger Metal Detectors; Thanks Ron!) golddiggermetaldetectors.com/
    My camera while hunting is the GoPro Hero 4 Silver

    That was a good one, extended version too so nice bonus for us. You are really getting good at predicting what it will be. Around here we call them "hitch pins" and use them on hay wagons and all sorts of farm machinery, well we did back when I worked for farmers in my teens. My detector did something similar Saturday, if I swung fast it beeped but slow I got no sound, so I tried the pinpoint feature which did work perfectly to show me where to dig, then GD found it with the Carrot. I forget exactly what it was, some small random piece of crap.

    🙋 Shedetector, it's always a pleasure watching your videos. I see you are able to make a few right guesses before you dig. Good for you, and it gets better. It seems I have the same problem as you in finding good items. I'm thinking our areas are being hit much more than we thought they are. But I guess as long as we're digging pull tabs, we have that chance of getting the gold. 🙌. Good luck on the next hunt.

      +GameofTones Thank you! Yea, I'm getting a little better at target ids. Yea, I think so too. I'm hoping Crystal Beach is still viable just maybe I need to go further out. I'll try it one or two more times before bailing. At least I'm finding some coins so it's not completely barren. That's true, there were lots of tabs for sure so maybe there's gold there also. Thanks!

    It took me a year before I found my first silver coin, so your time is coming. Here in Colorado when I am around a mining town I look for shell casings that have been smashed on the end because old miners would sometimes put their gold dust in the casing and smash it shut. They made for good containers. Have a great week.

    The good finds will come with patience,persistence, and perseverance. Most everyone goes through a period of "paying your dues" before they come along. Hang in there and keep swinging. Kept digging those bottle caps and pull tags and one day one of those signals will be a nice gold ring.

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 років тому

      You are correct about that. You have to dig a whole bunch of junk first before digging the goods. :) But it's fun the whole time so that's what matters. Thanks!

    I use a plastic sandwich bag to cover the box on my detector. I slit one side so it will go around the shaft in front of the box and use tape under the box on the bag to hold every thing close. Easy to remove and change out when needed. This is not waterproof, but will keep water drops from getting on the box.

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 років тому

      +cactus rat Yea, I'll do that next time I take the F19 near water. Especially salt water, not good!

  • @oldcitypainter

    Hello Again! Another nice video! A tip for ya on those mid 80's signals that sound good, but end up as bottle caps. If you raise the coil several inches and the numbers drop off (read lower) quickly, it's a cap. If the numbers remain fairly constant, without much change, it is a good target. Also I noticed the Fisher seems to read a good target when it is deep with inconsistent numbers until you get closer to the target (your quarter signal). I would keep this in mind on deep signals. Just my 2 cents! HH from Palm Coast!

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 років тому

      +Gregory Hux Hi! Thank you! And I tried doing that but once I got about 3-4 inches away, the target would disappear. Not sure if it's because I was in the water or what. I'll try again on my next hunt though. Yea, I noticed that too as I was making edits. And I don't know if it's because of the water or what. It didn't seem to do it when hunting on land. I'll keep watching that though. Thanks for watching!

  • @22wolfsong
    @22wolfsong 8 років тому

    Good video....you did good on getting those targets. Patience will pay off. I haven't much on or near the water or beach either but I know if I keep trying I will find a silver coin or better yet a gold ring. So don't get discouraged!

    Hey, I wish you the best of luck, and I love watching your videos, I go metal detecting with a Garrett Ace 250, thinking about upgrading, and I Found this earring which came up as silver and had stones that looked like diamonds. I got so excited but when i went to go get it checked out, it was costume jewelry. Hopefully we will both find something good! I really hope you get something because you are so enthusiastic. Good luck!

    Doing good with Squeaker! You have to dig all the signals when you are on the beach. Gold will come in the same number as pull tabs...it will vary on the size of the gold. Don't get discouraged...HH & GL, Dan

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 років тому

      +Wormkiller Dan Thank you! Thanks for the tip!

    • @johnharvey1954
      @johnharvey1954 8 років тому +1

      +Wormkiller Dan ...Gold will come in right next to tin foil (small and thin gold rings,earring studs and chain clasps on chains since the detector will not pick up the chain links..ONLY the gold clasp. Same with silver chains unless very big links) and all the way up to copper (large gold class rings and silver) and zinc penny range. Sterling will ring in the high silver coin range. If a ring is cracked thru you may not get a repeatable signal experience there will tell you to dig or not. Your ears are a better identifier of what's good than the numbers except bobby pins! lol Repeatable close numbers and good signals by jiggling the coil just a couple of centimeters back and forth over the target and still good sound and repeatable at 90 degrees will most likely be a keepable item. Getting a good strong repeatable signal and solid close numbers from various positions by walking around it is great and possible good target. Swing 2-4 centimeters while raising your coil slowly to 2-3 then 4 inches ...if it is a coin the signal number will be very close as the number 1" above the ground but the signal should weaken and go silent when you are maybe 4 - 5 inches high. I you can raise the coil 5,6,7,8 inches over the target it is large metal.. usually a pop can, hair pin, large wadded foil etc. Watch videos on technique on all different detectors NOT ONLY YOURS! Basics are the same for all! Your welcome to ask questions also!!! lol

    Here in South-Africa in my area I pick up loads of ammo shells that the tips are flattened and folded over sometimes. They used to pull out the bullet and do that to use the gunpowder in aiding to start a fire. Not saying that's why yours looked like it, but interesting fact about the Boer / British was over here. Canadians soldiers especially did that.

      She Detector it is :) I find them which was old concentration camp 1890-1902. Very sad... I often pick up personal items such as old harmonicas etc. I'd love to hunt where you do for gold and jewelery and coins etc. Relic hunting is very different and hard work for old rusted stuff but everything has a story behind it. Thinking of all the little children that died in those camps a lot of the items I find is heartbreaking. sorry for long reply :)

    I live in Oldsmar and finding places to hunt has been a chore in itself.Yesterday I went on the Courtney Campbell Causeway the Tampa side and was thrilled to learn that it hasn't been searched for quite some time because I found about $4.60 in clad and a few other invaluable items.I was getting signals on my metal detecter every few yards which I loved.I brought my GoPro and pushed the record button and was going to upload my first video of my hunt today later on tonight,Unfortunately when I pressed the record button the GoPro was on camera mode and not video mode.I was so bummed!It was a beautiful day with a lot of finds and my plans of shooting a video went right out the door.😖

    Suggestion on gloves...Dollar Tree carries great gloves. They are made of rubber or latex type of material and mesh. The mesh is on top, allows your hands to breathe. The rubber is thick enough to stop most sharp objects. The gloves are flexible too and come in different colors; black, blue, green, red and purple! For a dollar each pair will last you several trips, depending on how much abuse you put them through and they are easy to clean.

    You need to find some beaches where the sand is more powder. That coral sand beach is firm so when someone drops something, they just pick it back up. Powder sand, when the item hits the sand, its gone, lol. Also, in salt water, anything over 35 or so with a solid signal (knocks your ears off) I dig it, no matter what the VDI numbers are. Salt corrosion messes with the numbers. Cherry pick dry sand and dirt, dig it all in the water. That last target was prob a coin that you flipped up (straight up and down) so you lost most of the signal. One more scoop and you would have had it. HH and GL!

      +Dub Coco That's a good point. I hadn't thought about that. Oh really? That probably explains why those coins weren't solid numbers, they were both corroded. Thanks for the info! +She Detector He's correct..if something is dropped on heard sand they or another passer by will pick it up BUT if it is dropped on hard sand IN THE WATER it will most likely be lost and by morning covered by 2 or 3 cm's of sand or stomped into the sand. That's good out in the water on hardpack because you'll find it in the first scoop most likely.

    A couple of tips which may be useful ...
    1. If the coil is too bouyant, cable tie a small weight to the lower shaft when you are using it in water (obviously non-metalic, small wrapped piece of tile perhaps?).
    2. When the water is cloudy and you cannot see the bottom, use the following method. Center the coil on the target - Put your toes against the back of the coil - Remove the coil - CAREFULLY place the tip of the scoop just in front of and touching your toes - DIG...

    Hi She, have you thought about trying siesta key beach. That place gets heavy swimmer traffic and may greatly increase your chances of Gold. Be careful with squeaker in the water one wrong move and poor squeaker will be toast. In the water you pretty much gotta dig everything, you just never know. Once you get waist deep the trash will be less so Beeker will punch deep and get the goods. Try for 1 hour before low tide and work the out going tide. Remember low tide after a storm should produce the most goodies. I can see you're getting better at water detecting. It will only get better from here, good luck and look for those heavily crowded beaches to hunt, happy hunting.

    As I said before - dig all signals, especially in the coin, silver and gold ranges. Targets can be on weird angles and will give a crappy sound until you move some dirt off them. Your getting better at scooping though ;) Keep it up and soon you can beat hubby in an arm wrestle ;) And you have to dig pull tabs to find gold, skip em and you won't find much. Thanks for the vid - snow is melting in Ottawa, Canada and soon I'll be able to look for all those rings people loose when they take their winter gloves off ;) Make a game out of the pull tabs, see how many you have to dig before you find gold.

    Don't get bummed out! Your learning more and more every video. Maybe try and ground balance your machine in deeper water where the coil wouldn't surface when pumping? After getting your initial vdi try raising your coil a bit off the ground and see if the vdi # drops. If it drops its most likely a twist top or other certain types of trash. It'll help you decide not to dig but the 1st couple of experiments dig it anyways just to see. That bouncing quarter signal could of been a bad ground balance or trash was near it. If you only go for the solid signals your going to miss good targets. Dig what your heart tells you to dig. Bury a gold ring once (tie a string to it) and see what that signal looks and sounds like. Find the nearest historical society and have them print of an old platt book (1920's?) for your area, the black dots are old homes. Then go to the court house and get a modern platt book, the pages match and see if there were any old homes in now parks or public land somewhere?

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 років тому

      +Dirt Fever I hadn't thought about that. I'll give it a try though. I did learn that while at Clearwater last weekend. But it didn't seem to work that well in the water. After going up about 3 inches above the target, I couldn't see it anymore. Not sure that's about though. Oh yea, I don't remember if there was something else near it after I dug it. I actually just saved a thing for all of Tarpon Springs. It listed when houses were built. Not I just need to find a good one and get a permission. :)

  • @simidhel
    @simidhel 8 років тому

    You've made great progress with learning how to use Squeaker and hopefully those bigger finds are just around the corner (or beneath the surface) and if not, I hope you meanwhile have fun with the hobby itself. I was wondering about the signals that jump about - it seems in most cases they're indeed just junk but I've also watched some detectorists on other channels say that they feel the signal sometimes jumps about if your detector is sensitive enough that as you swing it back and forth it gives a differing signal as it gets closer to or farther from the target and then settles on a steadier number as you center it over the target. I'm no detectorist though. so I've no idea how accurate an assessment that is, but was just wondering... I think I'd just be too tempted to dig it if the jumpy signal had any high numbers at all! Don't be too discouraged - your finds will come, I'm sure and meanwhile, your channel itself is gold itself and quickly growing and reaping it's own rewards of sorts via encouragement and some nice gifts. There's more than one way to find gold it seems! :)

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 років тому +2

      +Simon Burton Thank you! I think so too. :) Yea, I'm having lots of fun, even though I'm finding junk. Better than being a couch potato....Although I also enjoy being a couch potato. :D I'll have to mess around with that on my next hunt. I'm curious now that you say that about the signal steadying out over the target. Yea, I'm like that too but I tend to leave them. I should just dig EVERYTHING though. Then no worries about missing anything. Yea, I'm having for sure and yes, my channel is doing great thanks to awesome people such as you! :D Hahaha, some might say you're gold Simon! ;D

    I know that those pull tabs are a pain but they can read just like a piece of gold. When you think that what's in the ground is just a pull tab and pass over it, It could be gold. Corroded coins in salt water can give odd readings so dig everything. That tractor pin was giving you a reading only in one direction because it was Iron and the machine was trying to discriminate it out but because it was so large you are getting what they call a wrap around effect I think. Your doing great keep it up, the stuff is out there you just have to get your coil over the top of it. A little tip hunting in the water with a non waterproof machine you can make up a strap (very simple) with some 1" or 1 1/2" nylon webbing attach it to the machine and over your head and wear it cross body like a purse you can then let it go to your side while digging and not worry about it falling in the water. Best of luck.

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 років тому

      +Steve Stonacek Yea, I've learned from people telling me. I'll be digging them all from now on though. :) I'm not missing a gold ring next time! Yea, I didn't know they did that but that explains why they weren't solid numbers. But they did seem to stay within 10 numbers or so. That might help me identify a coin the next time. Oh really? I wasn't sure if it was iron but I guess that makes sense. It was really weird how it was sounding. Yea I thought about that. Someone had suggested a strap for a weed eater. Either would work great I think. It would be nice to be able to swing it behind me this way when I bend over, it would rest on my back and actually lift up away from the water.

    Don't lose heart, She. The only way to be sure you will find the better stuff is to put the hours in, cover the ground and learn what your machine is telling you.
    The only thing I can see that is slowing you up is the time it takes you to decide if a target is worth digging. That's the learning your machine bit and it does take time.

Guys would tend to fish out as far as they could get. Doesn't seem that those bays have a whole lot of turbulence and tidal action so items should not be scattered far from the pier but get out there as deep as your fears will let you with Seeker. Maybe get a mask and snorkel which would let you hunt chest deep water at low tide and I guarantee you will fings rings the first day! Tony and Silver Sniffer would find more also if they went out!

    Awesome video She...( did you ever see the 1970's movie called "SHE") You passed that 60-80 deep signal up! Look at the hopes you had on that fork from hell! lol When a good item is deep there is more mineralization between the good item and the coil. Enough depth and mineralization or iron near to a good item will make your numbers bounce and become lower than the good item. That 60-80 signal could have actually been a 89 and old deep silver. Mineralization , Iron and most trash will pull on the high conductive signal of a high tone and BRING IT DOWN or completely mute it. That was a deep good repeatable signal and you should have believed your ears and not the screen. Just started the video.. more to come! lol

      +john harvey You were moving away from the best area when you said you were getting away from the rocks.. thats where your gold rings will be..heavy items like gold and rocks concrete with the currents help to keep them all together! Strap a nylon filled bag of sand or a larger piece of lead on the top of your coil to keep it down! Straped down tight...your pin pointing will not pick it up!

      @johnharvey1954 8 років тому

      +john harvey EVEN WHEN YOU THINK ITS CRAP..A GREAT TARGET CAN SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME!!!

    • @johnharvey1954
      @johnharvey1954 8 років тому

      +john harvey Having a problem finding where it is in the water to dig it? Put it pin point... wiggle over it till you know you cave it in a vertical line under the center of you coil. Keep wiggling in a 2 cm swing while moving the coil ever so slowly forward till the signal disappears and force you coil on the sand so it does not move. Put your right toes at the back of your coil and don't move your foot yet. Take your scoop and place the tip right in front of your toes and now move your foot and back the scoop back about 4"'s and dig straight down as possible. Should have item in a full scoop..maybe two! That why it is so much fun at night...you don't need to see the bottom to detect and recover! You can eliminate trying to lift and clumsily find the item in the scoop by DIYing a floatable sifterter by your side! ;) NO MORE WALKING TO LAND TO FILTER THE CLAYS AND MUCH USING THE FLOATER!

    Open coils are best for water hunting,a lesson learned. You are a noob so understandable,yes it wears your arm. My fist detector had a bobber for a coil, I could never keep it down. it leaked and ruined the coil. I always say ,metal detecting is 90 percent junk and 10 percent treasure. I used to fill peanut cans with coins at my old school grounds. This year I plan on hunting boat launches and rivers. I havent done any of those. Do research on areas you might want to hunt before you go. look for old road side parks, old house sites, school and soccer grounds are great,hunt shady areas. I found many rings along shady areas of soccer fields. I found a lock once,a few feet later,I found the key to that lock. still have it too.!

      @SheDetector  8 років тому

      +scott firman Oh no, sorry about your coil getting ruined. I'd like to hit rivers but there aren't to many immediately near me. I have to drive about 2 hours or so to get to some rivers. :/ One day though! Hahaha, hey you got a free lock! Very cool.

    Yeh..I found 17 no 25 gold rings, 2 1/2 pounds of silver coins, and a Porsche the first time I went detecting.......NOT!!! Do not get bummed out because you are not finding the"awsome" stuff. Detecting is a patient hobby. It's not always about finding things it's also about getting out with nature.....with little rewards! Trust me, your time will come. Keep the vids a coming and good luck!

      +Andrew Vuong Go back and watch her first videos!

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 років тому

      +Andrew Vuong Well it was kind of by accident. I watched a youtube video of a guy with a Vibra-Tector 730. It's a small handheld detector. I thought it was cool so I bought one to take out on the boat. I had it for about 2 months and used it while snorkeling and such. I tried using it on land but because it's a handheld, I was having to bend over to try using it. It didn't work out very well. Lol. So I decided to buy a big one! And that's how it all started. :)

    Never ever have someone tell you an area is hunted out. there is no such thing. All metal detectors send a cone signal and it is very easy to miss things,also anything in the ground set on edge the signal will appear weak,broken or just plain miss. I have hunted parks that supposedly been hunted out and found many silver coins and old nickles. Gold is usually always at the lower range,same as pull tabs and foil. Many a nice ring has been missed because of this. My box also removes,I need to get a cuff. velcro. I once set my box in a tupper wear container and caulked the cable hole. this was back when the cable unscrewed and plugged in from the box. Yay coins! I live in Northern Mi. we just got a snow event,so now hunting yet for me. I find this time of year there is still frost in the ground and it gives me bad signals.

    • @billyb3669
      @billyb3669 8 років тому

      +scott firman I have to agree with you about places never being hunted out. I once went behind two people working a beach with my old Whites 1/DB Series 2 (my first real one) and picked up things those guys with their top of the line detectors missed. Including a working flashlight. lol But I think this was due to operator error. Now I did work a 12 x 12 patch at an old closed Catholic school I think no one else will ever find anything. (I got $5 in change and a ring)
      I got some beginners advice from an experienced man on a beach one day. He said to dig for everything. Now that I have been doing this for a while I still dig for everything when I can. I still have my 1/DB I still love using it sometimes.

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 років тому

      +scott firman Oh no, I'll be going back there for sure. The water is getting to where I can tolerate the still somewhat chilly water so I'll go back out there again. :) Oh that's a great idea for the box. I hadn't thought about that. Hahaha. Sorry about the winter weather in your area. Hopefully it warms up soon for you!

    I don,t know that machine but food stamp down below says nickels come in around 50 if that is true then gold will ring there too I,ve dug a few times betting it was a pull tab and it was a gold ring so be careful what you pass on, far from me to tell you how to hunt sorry just have fun.
