- We went around Vancouver asking strangers to cook them dinner in their kitchen that night in hopes of meeting some new people in our city!
This was inspired by a cooking show on UA-cam called "Stranger Kitchens"

I´m living in a single apartment and almost everyday when I come home, I see my elderly neighbor looking through his window with a grumpy face watching me come home. This kept going on for close to 3 years. I first watched this vid yesterday and it inspired me to knock on this guys door who was always watching the world pass through his window. I got straight to the point and asked him what he was doing. He told me his name is Stefan and his wife died 5 years ago and he has no friends and is also retired. He is basically at home all day watching TV or the window. He invited me in and we had tea and a good coversation. So this old grumpy looking dude turned out to be a really funny guy who is just lonely. Like millions of other poeple being lonely and living while living door to door
You should visit him once a week.
Rathar than evaluating people from afar, you did what most people won't do....great job, you're brave & kind too. If we could all do what you did even once or twice, there would be less depression.

That lady is absolutely spot on about relative happiness and how we form really polarized opinions and feelings in todays world. Wise words.
This was the most illuminating thing to me. So interesting and admirable how she went on to figure that out. Relativity of happiness can be useful, but it can also stand in your way of actually experiencing happiness and being content with what you have and what you receive.
And I Love that the chef is a stoner. I will tell you, that guy has hurt people physically. He has beat the shit out of people. Fantastic to see he has turned life around. Respect dude.

I disagree. I suspect we are more 'average' than you might think because I think most people are as loving and kind as people are giving us credit for....they just are more afraid to try new things like this. I think most people are good, but what we see on the news etc.. shows us the worst of humanity....so that the simple gesture of opening your homes to new friends appears to be extra-ordinary. (I'm the lady in the video, by the way)

The psychology of cooking for someone and sharing food is incredible in people. Never underestimate how bonding sharing a meal with a stranger is.

even if you're not going door to door, you can still connect with your fellow humans. It can be as simple as smiling and greeting people in passing, or complimenting them. a single sentence can go miles to helping someone feel seen.

I have knowingly made a point of this my entire adult life. I am the weirdo who talks to strangers in public. Make a quick funny joke passing by or just randomly help out ex. by taking a shoppingcart back to the stalls after someone finishes to load their car or somthing simply like holding a door.
I often feel alone, so those little interactions make me feel like I exist and is being seen, and I am often surprised how many ppl light up as soon as they realise it is just a friendly talk with kind intentions.

As someone from the U.S. I expected everyone that you asked to be like "oh shore bud" But the first guy was the one I identified with the most. The couple y'all found were so wholesome. That lady is such a gem. Personally, I'd never trust a situation like this these days. But I'm glad to see how it worked out here.
They went around a very affluent part of Vancouver...but to be honest a lot of Vancouver is affluent. Oh shore buds are more likely to be found in Ontario

Well, this sure qualifies as "Better late than never"! I'm so glad I found this channel. I've always felt food/cooking is a way to connect with places & people (based on my culinary travels & experiences with family/friends). To have a unique shared eating experience over something you put your focus & creativity into. I'm a self-taught home cook & still on my culinary journey learning new techniques in Eastern North Carolina, USA (after relocating from the west coast to help support my cousin's bakery as his catering manager). 7 years later & still navigating the restaurant industry during a tougher time during the pandemic... I find videos like this so inspiring. I do free-lance dinners from time to time, often to help raise money for charity. I'd love to experiment with this concept locally where I am, as a "re-connecting supperclub concept". I hope you continue to make more videos like this & inspire others to the same. You have a big fan here!

I spent the past 4 yrs recovering from a shattered femur and broken hip and only hung out with my mom, step dad and 2 sons the entire time. Something I liked about the man from the start was him calling his wife to the door after hearing the boys “crazy” proposition, as opposed to answering for her saying something along the lines “I don’t think my wife would be fond of that” or whatnot. It shows that she is as open to new ideas as he is and how that works out in a relationship, as well as him not being embarrassed to let her in on the deal… I can imagine some wives being like “what is wrong with you why is that even a question” but this couple is on the same page

I was very moved by her sharing the experiment she did with each of her kids with the envelopes.
From time to time, I find that I have personally struggled to find happiness in varying ways...her storytelling of the experiment she did with their kids was not only spot-on, but I did some reflection on my own values and with happiness.

This is a truly special thing, human connection was lacking and it got much worse in the months following the release of the video. Meeting people still happens it's a special thing made all the more special now. Last week I got invited to a dance by a girl, when I got there I was just on the nick of time, but she already had a partner. Another girl walked up to me, and asked to be my partner. We had a blast dancing, both learning something completely new together. It was an experience I didn't think still happened these days.

Everyone convinced a stranger at the door is the most deadly person until you actually listen to them and be a little vulnerable.
I wouldn't recommend opening your doors to strangers and inviting them in, but sometimes if you can tell they're just being kind, then it doesn't hurt to let them in.
