  • Our French cleat chisel rack is an easy build that we did using only a table saw and a couple basic tools. It holds all of your chisels in a grab-and-go rack that is so easy to access that you won't lose your train of thought while working. The rack also holds your chisel's sharpening stone so you can sharpen your chisels without having to go on a scavenger hunt.
We built our from scrap wood and it looks and works great. If you have chisels you need this chisel rack, because it will make you more organized, more productive, and more popular with your woodworker friends! Come on, we'll show you how to build this very stylish tool rack!!!

The latest French cleat rack holds our chisels very nicely and declutters the shop. Subscribe to see more builds!

It really is. I was just in the shop using this and realized how much I hated keeping the chisels in a drawer.

Nice, but I would add something to keep from accidently hitting the razor sharp cutting edge of the chisels.

Nice video. Nice idea to also mount the stone. Love how you group items together. Mahalo for sharing! : )

Glad you liked it! Grouping the tools in places where they are actually used is making the shop a lot easier to use. Plus it looks kind of cool.

I have the same Harbor Freight chisel set...cheap and work well for me. I see folks with expensive chisels on UA-cam, don't know if they are any better.

Agreed. For what we do they are fine for us. Others have higher end tools for specific tasks but these chisels are all we need for the kind of stuff we do!

Interesting shelf thanks for posting. I would think the sharpening stone would be difficulty to get to without removing some of the chisels

Good point, but if we're sharpening one or more chisels we'd already have one or more already out of the mount. We figured protecting the stone from raining sawdust was more important than instant access. But your point is quite valid!

Thanks for the video! At 1:46 it appears you're using the fence to cut your small (repeatable) pieces, while also standing directly behind the cut. I'd advise against this, as you're begging for that piece to become trapped between the blade and fence and kick back at you. I'd recommend cutting a 1" piece of MDF or hardwood, and clamping it to the end of your fence. Then, use that as your reference for repeated cuts.

I could make holes in one long piece and cut spaces for the chisels instead of cutting all those small pieces?

Absolutely! Whatever works for your setup!
