    The Dodge Monaco is an automobile that was marketed by the Dodge division of Chrysler Corporation. Introduced as the flagship of the Dodge product line, the Monaco was introduced for 1965 to replace the Custom 880, later superseding the Polara model line. During its production, the Monaco was offered in multiple body configurations, including two-door and four-door hardtop sedans, four-door sedans, two-door convertibles, and station wagons.From 1965 to 1977, three generations of the Monaco were produced with the full-size Chrysler C platform. For 1977 and 1978, Dodge shifted the Monaco to the intermediate Chrysler B platform, effectively downsizing the model line. For 1979, the model line was redesigned and renamed the Dodge St. Regis.After a 12-year hiatus, the full-size Monaco was revived for 1990 as the flagship Dodge sedan, replacing the Diplomat. A rebadged version of the AMC-developed Eagle Premier, the Monaco was replaced by the Dodge Intrepid for 1993
    The 1977 model year brought changes to the Dodge Monaco line up as a lingering result of the 1973-1974 energy crisis, especially as Chrysler decided to move the Dodge Monaco, in name form only, from the full-size C platform-body to the mid-size B platform-body line up for the 1977 model year. The entire 1977 Dodge Monaco line up received a make-over. The previous model year's full-size C-body Dodge Monaco (from 1976) became, just for one year only, the full-size C-body 1977 Dodge Royal Monaco until its discontinuation from all production during the end of the 1977 model year. The mid-size B-body 1977 Dodge Monaco four-door wagon and four-door sedan replaced the previous model year's Coronet four-door wagon and four-door sedan. The 1977 Dodge Monaco Brougham four-door sedan replaced the previous model year's Coronet Brougham four-door sedan. The 1977 Dodge Monaco Crestwood four-door wagon replaced the previous model year's Coronet Crestwood four-door wagon. However, the 1977 Dodge Monaco, for all marketing practices, were little-changed from the 1976 Coronet. The 1977 models received a revised front end design with stacked rectangular headlamps.For the 1978 model year, the mid-size B-body 1978 Dodge Monaco was unchanged from the previous model year. It became Dodge's largest car during the 1978 model year. The Dodge Monaco was discontinued at the end of the 1978 model year. The B-Body cars continued in the form of the Dodge Charger until 1979.
    The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is a state law enforcement agency of the U.S. state of California. The CHP has patrol jurisdiction over all California highways and are also known as the state police. They also have jurisdiction over city roads, and have the right to conduct law enforcement procedures there.
    The California State Legislature originally established the California Highway Patrol as a branch of the Division of Motor Vehicles in the Department of Public Works, with legislation signed by Governor C. C. Young on August 14, 1929. It was subsequently established as a separate department with legislation signed by Governor Earl Warren in 1947. The CHP gradually assumed increased responsibility beyond the enforcement of the State Vehicle Act and eventually merged with the smaller California State Police in 1995.[3] It is currently organized as part of the California State Transportation Agency (CALSTA).
    In addition to its highway patrol duties, the CHP also provides other services including protecting state buildings and facilities (most notably the California State Capitol) and bodyguarding state officials. The CHP also works with municipal and federal law enforcement agencies, providing assistance in investigations, patrol and other aspects of law enforcement.
    The California Highway Patrol is the largest state police agency in the United States, with more than 10,700 employees, 7,500 of whom are sworn officers, according to FBI data

    I love the way you choose to build and paint and how you present the kit reviews even when some may have some unwanted flaws, you choose to move forward and build through to completion. I can see why you have such an impressive viewing audience, congratulations and your "old school" my kinda guy. Thanks for everything and stay during this critical time.

    I may need a case of these! I've built a few Monacos in the past and love these kits. If you want a better chassis you can use the one from the older AMT Plymouth Road Runner/ GTX and Dodge Coronet.

      Bear was also the ONLY one to ever draw (draw down) his fire arm on the show...once during the rolling casino (shot gun) and twice on Danny Bonaduce (once in real time, once in flash back) when Danny attacked Bear with the bo (and flash back the staff)......o.k, I watched too much t.v. back then.

    Nearly ten years ago,I built a fictional Texas sheriff's car from an older version of the same kit. It was the AMT® BATMAN™ Joker Goon Squad/Gotham City Police Car kit. To make the taillights look more like the actual Dodge Monaco taillights(the ones in the kit look more like they were from a Dodge Coronet or Plymouth Fury),I covered them with Bare Metal Chrome Foil,painted them with Testors Taillight Red and Amber Turn Signal paints,let them dry and finished them with hand-painted chrome silver stripes.

    My police department here in New York bought these Dodges and found them to be quite fast. In a straight roadway. They were later replaced by Ford Crown Vics which were more reliable and the ‘police package made them handle like race cars. I retired just before Ford stopped making them and they were replaced by SUVs.

I'm glad to see the narrow wheels and tires in this kit. The wide wheels in the original kit annoyed me, it made the car look more like a dirt track car than a street sedan. Again, an entertaining presentation with a delightfully satisfying end, of an astonishingly long list of them.
    Incidentally, at 19:50, you ask who played “Bear” on CHiPs (NBC, 1977-1983)? Brodie Greer played “Officer Barry Baricza”, pronounced “Ba-RICH-uh” (the Slavonic “cz” sounds like the “ch” as in the word “chew” to English speakers), hence “Bear”, on CHiPs.
    Michael Dorn for six seasons played “Lt. Worf”, chief of security on the United Starship Enterprise, NCC-1701D, in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994, Paramount). In Star Trek: First Contact (1998, Paramount, Jonathan Frakes, Jerry Goldsmith), he had the best line of the motion picture, a retort to the Borg: “Assimilate THIS!”
    On CHiPs, Mr. Dorn played “Officer Jebediah Turner”.
    Yes, I know: NERD ALERT! NERD ALERT! NERD ALERT!

    It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas.

    • @Johnnyjonas274
      @Johnnyjonas274 4 роки тому +2

      Rob B That was not the car used in the Blues Brothers. They used a 74 Dodge Royal Monaco, which was a full sized car. This car was considered mid size, believe it or not

      @@Johnnyjonas274 I'm just getting into modeling, but The Blues Brothers is BY FAR my favorite movie ever. I'm only 33, but I have family history in that movie! And it's filmed in the area I grew up. Is there a plastic model kit of the Blues Brothers car!? Would love to get my hands on one and make it once I get better at modeling.

    • @Johnnyjonas274
      @Johnnyjonas274 4 роки тому +1

      Ray Lenz I’ve only seen die cast metal ones, Ray. I’m surprised, but I can’t find a plastic kit of that car on-line. By the way, my mistake, the car is a 1974 Monaco, not Royal Monaco. When Dodge changed the name of the Coronet to Monaco in 1977, they changed the name of the full sized “Bluesmobile” to Royal Monaco. Plymouth messed with the Satellite, Fury, and Gran Fury names too. Chrysler liked to confuse people, I guess 🤷‍♂️

    Happy new year. Love this build! It's quite beautiful. And it was funny to see it in a hangar bay from Star Trek. At least, it looked like what we were shown on TNG, DS9 and Voyager.
    It's pretty cool that R2 update their kits. The next updates they should do on this kit, IMO, is an independent exaust from the floor bottom and clear lenses for the headlights. And maybe a little more engine bay detail.

    Now someone just needs to produce a Kawasaki CHP motorcycle in 1/25 scale. I believe they used KZ 1000s in the show, but could be mistaken. Then the cruiser could hangout with its old friends 7 Mary 3 and 7 Mary 4 on the shelf!

    The new light bar is, appropriately, a Federal California Twinsonic, the most popular unit of the time. It looks a little tall to me, I think I would shave about 2mm off the bottoms of the lenses and the center section to make it come into scale.
