The Greatest Star Wars Movie ever Made !
@@cfish3865 What ? CGI Ain't shit compare to practical effects. smh
Idk if someone already mentioned it, but the reason Star Wars became so popular, is simply because it was way ahead of its time. In 1977, these sorta special effects had never been seen before. Even now 45+ years later, these movies still hold up surprisingly well.
Edit: Oh and forgot to mention also, this came out during the Cold War, when tensions between the States and the USSR were very high, and because this movie is about hope, it resonated with a lot of Americans.
The height of a cold war was the Cuban missile crisis
Not just Americans... here in Europe too. I'd say it wasn't the height of the cold war but tensions were high, often. It was just such great adventure but with the space twist of swords and sorcery becoming laser swords and force users. THE modern re-invention of the classic legendary stories.
unfortunately George got rid of the original versions for these bad cgi infested versions, it take away from how good the effects were for the time
@@shaggjones4854 I think the major problem was no one said no to George. Open shots of Luke's speeder going into Mos Eisly is fine (the idea).... but did we need Jawas falling off things and droids annoying each other ? Not really IMHO. Making the x-wings move a little smoother ? Fine by me. Massive blast rings from Alderaan and the Death star ? Fine by me. Enhance away... but he made it obvious instead of subtle. Don't even get me started on stepping on Jabbas tail and the Maklunky incident !! The 3 letters we should have been thinking of (when seeing it) should be WOW not WTF.
I'd add as well space intrigue was growing and this series just percolates the imagination when thinking about what could be out there.
"The Force will be with you, always."
Fun Fact: The first movie to make over $300 million domestic box office. It was also the first movie to cross $500 million worldwide in its initial release.
Action Star Fact: Stunt doubles were not used for the scene where Luke and Leia swing to safety in the Death Star. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher performed the stunt, shooting it in just one take.
CGI Over Practical Fact: All the CGI was added in the late 90s and NOT part of the original release. I don't mind the changes, except for originally Han Solo (Harrison Ford) shot Greedo (Paul Blake) before the bounty hunter could do anything.
Gun Enthusiast Fact: The weapons the stormtroopers used were essentially the Sterling L2A3 9mm SMG (sub-machine gun), a military weapon developed in the late 1940s in the U.K. and adopted by the British and Canadian Armies in the 1950s. The curved left entry side mounted magazine was removed, and that was as much as it was modified for the movie. The longer sandtrooper weapon was the MG-34 machine gun from Germany.
Location Location Fact: The Tatooine scenes were filmed in Tunisia. There is a town in Tunisia's rural south named Tataouine (Berber for "eyes") and George Lucas liked the name so much, he adopted it for Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) home world. Some of the interiors and the courtyard of Luke's house were filmed in a hotel in Matmata, Tunisia. One can visit this two-star hotel and see some pictures and the painted ceiling of what was used for the Lars' dining room. When Luke goes out of the farm, he appears in a flat deserted area, while the reality, when you get out of the hotel, there are a lot of other houses, small stone hills, and a lot of prickly pear cacti (a variety very common in Tunisia). The skeleton that C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) passes belongs to a Tatooine creature called a Greater Krayt Dragon. This artificial skeleton was left in the Tunisian desert after filming and still lies there. During filming of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones (2002), the site was visited by the crew once more and the skeleton was still there.
Don't forget the revenue was 1977 price of tickets so 500M in today's prices would be a crazy number of tickets back then.
Youd think that could bring in a few tourism dollars for Tunisia, but oh well 😅
What with all the sandstorms, back then and in the future, imagine people digging it up and putting it in a museum in 100 years.
We can imagine the conspiracy theories that will come up 😂
"All the CGI was added in the late 90s and NOT part of the original release" - BS
I see flexytroll is annoying you too. Some people are just too incompetent to do any research.
All he has to do is watch the original release edition, but nope! He'd rather make himself look like he has the IQ of bread.
@@pugowner1347 well no the dewbacks and most of the flyover and creature shots in Mos Eisley, not to mention some of the special effects shots of the space battle at the end were added in the Special Edition released in the 90s.
I have them on VHS and they all begin with a little vignette of all the remastering work they did.
I dont know why he's saying that's BS when its true.
“The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master.” my favorite line from this movie. Revenge of the Sith is the best can’t wait till you see that
..AAAND it loops back.
My favourite line is: "Do not be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force." The way he delivers that line is perfect.
I think this movie episode 4 is the best, but to each their own in their own regard. I just got through 3 and wanted to see how it ended I guess but I didn't love it or think oh wow this is so good. Even George with the prequels more specifically the phantom menace admitted he made mistakes and had physical reactions of regret and stress if you watch the documentary of it being made when he saw the movie. You can see him being stressed and looking regretful and in panic mode.
*the empire strikes back*
@@shelbyseelbach9568 it’s when I left you ya 🤡
"Look like a bunch of Oompa Loompas" wouldn't surprise me if most of the dwarf actors here were also in Willy Wonka.
I think that's probably true.
I thought most of the Jawas were little kids?
@@miguelvelez7221 Not totally sure on that one. You are probably right.
@@miguelvelez7221 The Ewoks were small adults, except for 12 year old Warwick Davis, but the Jawas were local Tunisian children hired for the parts..
He knows absolutely nothing going in, I can't wait to see the rest of these
Same, It's always interesting to see how new viewers piece it together... or not in many cases.
@@UnhandyCandy280one reason the ot is so great for new viewers is how simple it is to follow. U don't need to study the lore or read extended materials to understand it. Now it's alot more complex
@@billross9132 I watched Ahsoka Series on D+ and I haven't seen any of SW: Rebels and only saw S1 + 2 of Clone Wars. I figured most of Ahsoka out from context but.... yeah, the later stuff is lore heavy.
You asked why was this film so popular.
As someone who was only seven years old when the film came out out in May of 1977, it spoke to many people as a way of escapism. We had never seen anything like this before. We all felt like Luke Skywalker and wanting to have a life beyond a desert planet. We wanted to go off on an adventure on a ship like the Millennium Falcon. We wanted to have a lightsaber and learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi Knight and fight Darth Vader. It opened many of us to the world of science fiction and space fantasy adventures like Star Trek, Lost in Space, and Planet of the Apes; as well as Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, and Superman.
You also spoke about the effects in this film. The special effects got an upgrade back in 1997. For its 20th anniversary, the film (along with the sequels) were remastered with new special effects, as well as including scenes like when Han Solo meets Jabba the Hutt that was originally cut from the film in 1977; but was put in with new effects in 1997. In the years since the ‘97 release; known as the special edition, additional changes were made. Part of the changes was to make the original trilogy match up with the prequel trilogy (Episodes I-III) that were released during the late 1990’s-mid 2000’s.
Star Wars was the first movie I ever saw in the theater - I was 4 years old. I still remember the feeling of sitting there and watching the first scene where the ship comes out above you. This movie is STILL my favorite!
Thank you for this reaction, I absolutely loved it and it brought me a lot of joy.
“The force bouta be with him” 😂😂😂
What a great reaction! As a big SW fan I'm thrilled to see you experience this for the first time. So jealous lol May the Force be with you!
Always love watching people see the series for the first time ever. Star wars is an amazing franchise
The throne room theme at the end when they are getting medals always gets me feeling some emotion 😢
They just keep getting better from here 🔥
then comes to a screeching halt 😭
LETS GOOOOOOOO
One reason it got so big was it was first of its kind. Also what you are watching is not the original version. It very hard near impossible to fine the og version cuss Lucas was constantly remastering and adding scenes as technology improved. There was no cgi at all when the movie first came out and used all practical effects.
Look up: Harmy's Despecialized Edition
"no cgi at all"? Thats BS, why you posting such BS?

In the summer of 1977, this movie came out and changed history. From the opening text roll, and the gigantic Imperial Star Destroyer pursuing Princess Leia’s small ship flies overhead, the magic and optimism of this movie kicks in and you are mesmerized. EVERYONE loved this movie! The special FX were (and still are) jaw dropping. John Williams music score blasts out aided by heretofore unknown Dolby Noise Reduction and was an unparalleled movie experience (the movie soundtrack album also hit #1 on Billboard’s music chart - for several weeks). The relatively unknown cast (except for Oscar-winner Alec Guinness - Obi-Wan Kenobi) became instant stars and household names. People went to see it over and over and over again. It stayed playing in some movie theatres for over a year. “Star Wars” started a whole new industry in toys, games, and figurines, and Writer/Director George Lucas, who shrewdly retained the rights to ALL of the merchandising (no one at 20th Century Fox studios thought this movie would be anywhere near the mega-hit it became), well, ol’ George would eventually become a billionaire several times over. And even with all of this, the sequel - “The Empire Strikes Back” - was even better in my opinion. Lucas had a lot more money that he could lavish on it. Bottom line - the original trilogy was, at the time, the best fantasy movie trilogy ever made. Since only surpassed by, in my humble opinion, “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. You have a lot of good movie watching ahead of you!
Great reaction! Release order is the best way to watch this series. Welcome to the Star Wars fam base
YOU GOTTA WATCH THEM ALL
My reaction to your reaction is simply put in Obi-wan's words:
"That's good. You've taken your first step into a larger world."
Watch the movies in release dates so the "Empire Strikes Back" is next in release dates. I had just graduated HS the same month this movie came out and it blew our minds in such a way that the whole theater stood up and gave it a standing ovation and we stayed to watch the end credits. The sound was full Dolby, which was new then. the musical score was beyond dope.
He ain't got no aim Is the theme of the stormtroopers... You recognized that very quickly My friend
Stop spreading that myth. They are good shots.

Hello. Next is 'The Empire Strikes Back', then 'The Return of the Jedi', then 'The Phantom Menace', then 'Attack of the Clones', then the 2003-2005 Clone Wars series (altogether it is the same length as a film), then 'The Revenge of the Sith', then 'The Force Awakens', then 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story', then 'The Last Jedi', then 'Solo', then 'The Rise of Skywalker', then 'The Clone Wars' (an expansion of the prior mentioned series from 2003-05), followed by 'The Bad Batch', then 'Star Wars: Rebels', 'Andor', 'Star Wars: The Mandolorian', 'Ahsoka', 'Resistance'. More is on the way such as 'Acolyte', in addition to several other tv projects such as the older 'Droids' tv series. But this is at least a good starting list that will help you start your journey exploring the Star Wars universe. Hope you find this useful and enjoy the stories. Best wishes and regards.
Super excited that you're starting Star Wars. The next one, Empire Strikes Back, is considered the favorite of many. Looking forward to it!
Welcome to the world of star wars... As you watch the other movies, you will find EVERYTHING has a back story... and i think thats what makes these movies great!
I was sixteen when this movie first came out and I must have seen it on the big screen six times. It took movies to the next level. It's always great to see people reacting to it for the first time. Great stories don't age.
Release order:
Episode IV: Star Wars (later added the name "A New Hope" ANH)
Episode V: Empire Strikes Back (ESB)
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (ROTJ)
Episode I: The Phantom Menace (TPM)
Episode II: Attack of the Clones (AOTC)
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (ROTS)
The Clone Wars (animated)
Rebels (animated)
EDIT: almost forgot ROGUE ONE (takes place 2 weeks BBY [Before the Battle of Yavin])
The Mandalorian (takes place 5 years after ROTJ)
The Book of Boba Fett (5 years after ROTJ)
Ahsoka (5-6 years after ROTJ)
For the Clone Wars and Rebels shows, if you don't want to sit through all of the episodes, focus on the Ahsoka Tano story arc, because these are, and/or will be, important to the storyline later on. See, Ahsoka Tano is a nexus. Her story splits into two diverging storylines. In the one, we get the sequels. In the other, things happen quite... differently.
What helped become popular was it was something completely different during its time. Most movies then were westerns I believe, but nothing like this. This was fresh and new, kind of like how avatar exploded the way it did due to the visuals, creativity and effects. I've seen star wars movies so many times and it always has a special place in my heart
Anybody else laugh at 8:39?
"Very impressive."
Referencing empire strikes back without even knowing it.
Star Wars was an immediate smash hit because of a perfect storm of groundbreaking special fx, music, story, basically reviving the space genre. It also happened as America was getting out of the Vietnam War and going into the Cold War, it just lifted people’s spirits, something that had been lacking in big movies and life in general at the time. This movie literally gave people hope.
This was a new level in movies. Remember, this was the late 1970's. Coupled with a classic heroic story, it was huge!
Nephew, this was the first movie that I saw without a parent. I was 12yo. It was me, my cousin and our boy. We were awestruck.
I was 9 when I saw this in theatres. Star Wars was the first of its kind and set the standard for special effects and what makes for a fantastic movie from beginning to end. Every boy in America wanted a lightsaber, and Scholastic couldn't order enough Star Wars novels. It changed movies forever.
Why did this movie get so popular?
It was the perfect storm.
Future sci-fi fantasy in an Apollo afterglow, attractive young actors, imaginative world building, finely composed modern mythology, relatable characters in established not-yet-cliche tropes, anti-establishment attitude to film-making, bleeding-edge VFX born of brand new technology, memorable and enduring musical score, and a borderline fanatical cult following.
Not to mention the merchandise. OMG the merchandise...
Series blew up because it was the first of its kind to bring us to new SciFi world that felt believable. Never saw special effects like this before and everything else was top quality as well. Release order is generally the best way to watch as audience, it gives strong appreciation of where they have been and where they are going.

Ayoooo, welcome back to the channel! You already know what it is!
Sitting in the theater in 1977, you had never seen anything remotely like this. It was groundbreaking. I was 10 years old and my sister managed the local movie theater, I saw it 24 times.
Hey Man. Glad u started at Episode 4 & enjoyed it. These movies were so huge when I was a kid. The Star Wars franchise broke the mold w/franchising (Action Figures, T-Shirts, Posters, Lunchboxes). Looking forward to u continuing on w/Episodes 5, 6, 1, 2, 3 & Rogue One. Keep watching, keep enjoying!
ive actually never thought u would be reacting to movies, i love this dawg 🔥
1. The special effects created by Industrial Light and Magic were the Hollywood Gold Standard for decades after this film came out. 2.John Williams composed the musical score. 3. Lightsabers 4. Darth Vader 5. A Hero's Journey straight out of Joseph Campbell.
The special effects and all that was new in the 80s i think. Is why it blew up. Plus the secret reveal of darth vader being Lukes daddy was mindblowing in a time before the internet
Why would you spoil that
@cephasmarc85 cuz its a 50 yr old movie that everyone knows.
@ejdolo I have seen several reactors that didn't know it, but in this case he said that he know the I am your father thing.

@@ejdoloI suggest you go back to school
I was 12 years old when I saw it in the theatre. I'm 58 now, but I still love this film. Why was it so popular? Because it was a completely new theater experience. The special effects were brand new, we'd never seen anything like it. The first scene, when the big ship goes overhead was a mindblower. Princess Leia wasn't scared & weak, she was tough & smart & every little girl wanted to be her. Luke was 'cute' & we fell in love with him; Han Solo was the anti-hero, bad-boy we all wanted. The story was unique in many ways, and good wins in the end the way it was supposed to. It had everything a film should have & at no point did we have to watch the characters having sex so 20 years later we could watch it with our kids, who also loved it. Now I'll settle in and enjoy your enjoyment; in a few years, I hope to be watching it with my granddaughter. Peace.
Since you asked, I was 17 when this movie came out. It was a totally different kind of science fiction at the time. A lot of the effects weren't really new, they had been already used before, but ot in this way. The majority of movie watchers were sci-fi fans because up until Star Wars, sci-fi movies were more cerebral. A lot of science and fiction, but very little action. Star Wars has more of the elements of an action-packed old west movie. It was more about the action than the sci-fi. So, more movie fans could relate to it. By the way, in the original release, Han shot the bounty hunter first.
I got my parents to take me and my brother to see this when it came out! We saw it in the Zegfried theatre (in Manhattan, NY) in 1977. I was eleven years old. Here's the watch order:
1. Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope.
2. Star Wars: Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back
3. Star Wars: Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi
4. Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace
5. Star Wars: Episode 2 - The Clone Wars
6. Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith
7. Star Wars: Rogue One
Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
I love the music in all the first 6 movies. John Williams is a legend when it comes to the Star Wars soundtrack. Star Wars was one of my first movies i watched as a kid and i fell in love with it instantly.
The popularity of SW is that it's all legends and fairy tales in one. The farm boy from no where with the boring life finds out he's more important than he knows (we'd all love that). An evil army that has control of everything with an iron fist, is about to make sure no one can stop them and an old knight from a forgotten age who promises to teach the secrets of his ways to bring balance to the world. A princess to be rescued, a pirate who walks the line of rogue/hero. A black knight who hides his face and who uses evil 'magic'... If you were between the ages of 5 and 105 years old, there is something for every one to relate to.
Your reaction to the sand peoples sound design was very satisfying 😂
This movie came out just as the tech generation was starting. It was in the wake of the Viet Nam debacle and the youth in our country needed a morale boost. This movie superseded any special effects ever seen in movies. The combination of John Williams Orchestral style music, in stead of spacey techno electric music, and the “Used Future” look it connected with people. The inspiration into the tech age was Star Wars, followed by the re-introduction of Star Trek in movie forms just a couple years later.
Dude....I love watching your music reactions...but damn......I really enjoyed watching you watch the first movie I ever saw in the theater. A good 40+ years ago!
Great job...as usual.
I really enjoyed this reaction from you!! Its awesome when a person enjoys these movies for a first time viewing! I remember seeing it and thoroughly enjoying it, myself! The order is kinda weird since they did a prequel trilogy so the viewing order would be as follows...
Episode IV: A New Hope
Episode V: Empire Strikes Back
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Episode VII: The Force Awakens
Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker ....hope that helps and May the Force be with you! 😉Enjoy!
Love it when guys on UA-cam do reactions to Star Wars. Just perfect 🤘
One thing to keep in mind is the version that you are using is the Special Edition, the re-release of the movie in 1997 with the special effects that finally caught up with his original vision. In 1977, the scene with Jabba in the docking bay wasn't in the 1977 release. What we did get was good for the time. This is way better and made for a more exciting experience.
The reason Star Wars is so popular is because it has pieces from just about every movie and stories that have been told for thousands of years.
It's part Sci-fi, part swashbuckling pirate movie, a western, a romance, Greek, Roman, Arthurian, and probably lots of other kinds of mythology.
It has mysticism, philosophy, and religion from all over the Earth.
It's a Samurai movie, a martial arts movie. It's a buddy comedy and adventure. It's a psychological thriller. It's a sword and sorcery movie. It has gangsters, scoundrels, cutthroats, bounty hunters, pirates, monsters,Dragon's, gurus and teachers, assassins, cowboys, knights, wizards, gangsters, princesses, ninjas, and queens. It's got a little bit of political intrigue. It's got spies and espionage, commandos, and covert missions. It's got nazis, ghosts, visions, giant and fast moving space battles, it's got secret giant fortresses and mazes. It's a war movie. It's got guerrilla warfare. It has unique, exotic, interesting, lovable, cute, funny, scary, gross, sexy, badass, mysterious, and hateable characters.
It has futuristic technology. It's got exotic, interesting, dangerous, different, and far away locations never seen before. It's a heist movie. It's a revenge movie. There's lots of suspense and lots of twists and turns. It's a quest movie.
It's got It's own land and multiple rides at all Disney theme parks all over the planet. It was one of the early summer blockbusters. It has been imitated and parodied countless times.
All of it was accompanied by amazing music by some of the best musicians on Earth and the greatest composer of the 20th century.
Not to mention the nuclear cultural impact, marketing, and merchandising campaigns over almost 50 years unlike anything the world has ever seen.
Those are a few reasons why Star Wars is such a phenomenon.
Had to sub, as I look forward to you going down this rabbit hole for a franchise warts and all so many of us love and adore.
Nice reaction as always. I hope you can appreciate what this must have been like watching this in the theater when I was 4. It was my favorite movie for a long, long time.
It's a modern retelling of Classic Mythological tropes. Particularly, The Journey of the Hero.
C3PO and R2D2 personify the typical Greek Chorus, both a part of the story as well as narrating the story as it proceeds.
Fun fact: The Chewbacca costume that the late, great Peter Mayhew wore was not supposed to get wet in the garbage compactor scene. But it did, and considering the fact that the original suit was made of yak hair, It produced a pretty funky odor. And the planet Tatooine has 2 suns called Tatoo I and Tatoo II.
In 1977, no one had seen Special effects like this. Also a great Story!
Simple answer for why star wars is so good, its poetry in film
I found your channel I love your reactions ! I saw this move when it came out in theaters I was 3 years old ! May the Force Be with You ! I will be checking out your other contect !
What made this such a giant hit that year? I think several factors contributed. People say this brought sci fi back into popularity but really in the first half of the 70s sci fi actually did faily well. Like "Logun's Run", "The Omega Man", "Solent Green" and others. The difference was these movies tended to be dystopian, with slower pacing. Kind of dismal portrayals of the future. This one the other hand had much more excitement with fast edits cuts and higher pacing. Plus it had the enormous feel good ending that had people cheering inside as they left the theater. Completely different. Then add the great score (which out did other sci fi), the great characters, the effects, etc. You couldn't escape everyone going crazy over this film. It was everywhere.
For this series and im excited to see his reactions. This is my favorite reaction channel so now i cant wait for the next movie

Awesome! Luv me some Star Wars! Can't believe it's your 1st time watching. I even still have the originals on VHS. 😁
Can’t wait!
One of the big reasons this movie was so popular, up to this point most "Science Fiction" movies leaned way harder into the 'science' part, and mostly starred scenes of men in lab coats standing around a table talking.
Aside from being ahead of it's time, the seventies had a lot of dark serious films (see Mean Streets, The Deer Hunter, Taxi Driver, etc) and going to the cinema wasn't fun (though a lot of good artistic merit). Then came Star Wars which was pure fun done with great production values, good chemistry amongst the characters and a soundtrack that was a smash hit. It was just what the country needed and it was enjoyed by everyone regardless of age.
I was looking for another Star Wars first timer, can’t wait to see the future Star Wars videos
Thank you, for taking ,the time, to enjoy this game changing film.❤

I was 13 years old in 1977 when I saw Star Wars in the Movie Theatre. The Special Effects were ahead of its time. The Movie was originally just called Star Wars and was renumbered Episode IV when episode V The Empire Strikes Back was released in 1980; George Lucas Started with the First Episode of his Second Trilogy!
Great reaction, Man. This movie has been legendary, since Summer 1977.
This is the special edition re-release with updated effects in 1997. if you see the original 77 version you'll spot some tweaks
He defo needs to move over to a movie reaction channel and have a patron that’s where the algorithm is
New subscriber, really liked your insights and questions. I'm sure someone else answered, but here are a couple of things I know from being a 7-yr old when it came out and blew my mind. Part of the reason this movie blew up was because it taps into deeper cultural themes and mythology, much of it covered by a man named Joseph Campbell. Nothing too wild, just things like the coming of age journey of a hero, who is without parents, gets guidance from an old wiseman/wizard who makes the ultimate sacrifice, saving the princess, loss of innocence, the power of the underdog if they fight collectively. It's also a man/nature vs. machine/industry theme, really present in ROTJ with the Ewoks and in Ep 3 with the Wookies.
This also came out 3 years after the end of the Watergate scandal, which came after 15+ years of the Vietnam War. You had the JFK, RFK and MLK assassinations, all of the riots and protests of the late 60s. Watergate was in the news for a couple of years. There was an oil boycott of the US by Arab nations in the mid-70s, so the gas supply and prices were a disaster. People were feeling pretty bad in general. The movie tapped into some of that, with the Empire reminding people of Nixon and his cronies.
I think George Lucas also made some great choices. For one of the first times, a space movie took place in a galaxy that looked like it had always existed. It wasn't a bunch of sterile, clean space stations or ships. The planets in SW look used, grungy, dirty, and realistic. Luke's family looked like farmers. The Cantina on Tatooine looked like a dive bar. The Falcon looked like a POS. That contrasted against the Death Star, which was dark and mechanical, spotlessly clean.
Lucas also tapped into (copied, more or less) a couple of films of the great Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. One is The Hidden Fortress. collider.com/star-wars-george-lucas-hidden-fortress-akira-kurosawa/#:~:text=The%20Hidden%20Fortress%20had%20a,crest%20resembles%20the%20Yamana%20clan.
Another Kurosawa film was Seven Samurai. That film influenced almost the entire plot of the Magnificent Seven, but also had a few ideas "borrowed" for SWars. Aside from all of the influences on Lucas, I haven't even gotten to the groundbreaking special effects. It's hard for anyone under the age of 40 to really appreciate what a leap this was for visual effects. They blended new and old techniques that worked perfectly together to totally immerse the audience in that universe.
It was a perfect storm of a lot of factors, and people were ready to root for the good guys.
It was highly renowned for its technology back in 1977 release
for a movie of 1977 these effects are insane
YES LETS GET INTO THIS
Loved your reaction so much to this I subscribed can’t wait for more
Dude, you got it IMMEDIATELY. Welcome to the Star Wars club
I've watched dozens of not hundreds of people react to this. You're in my top 5 of all time
It's hard to explain the mystery of this movie to modern humans. This wasn't released to the public, until three decades after it came out. As kids, we saw it in theaters, and then that was literally it, for the rest of our childhood, and teenage years. At some point, if you had an old Big Laser disc player (like a CD but the size of a vinyl record), you could watch two of them. But it was a failed technology that never took off, and they were thousands of dollars. No VHS though, until the 1990s.
23.00 Nailed it.AGAIN, lol. That term, Jedi Mind Trick. You'll encounter it often through the series.
Another reason(s) this movie became so popular requires a bit of context- At the time, America was deeply cynical because of the Vietnam War, Watergate & other issues. Films of the time reflected that cynicism, bordering on Nihilism. So the public was looking very much for an upbeat film, with real heroes & a message of Hope. Star Wars couldn't have come at a better time in that respect.
Also, after decades of pure Materialism, people were also hungering for a story about a deeper world, that touched on mystery & wonder, a glimpse of the ineffable, which Star Wars also did. Those elements were actually just as important about how impactful the film was, as its amazing special effects & stunning presentation.
Definitely worth mentioning that a lot of the CGI special effects were added in a later re-release of the movie. A lot of the effects that are obviously computer generated were not shown in the '77 release, is my understanding.
Depends on which order you want to watch them in. If you want to watch them and release order the next one is episode 5 The Empire Strikes back. I personally tell people to watch them in chronological order starting with episode 1 The Phantom Menace
"Vader aint playing Boy" needs to be on a T-shirt 😅😅😅 20:25

"How is he gonna get his money?" is a darned good question! Her planet was gone. Did she have off-world vaults full of money?
Thanks!
'Droids. A modified form of "Androids.' Used this way it can include any robotic form human shaped or not.
I rock you with. Very good reaction and introduction into the series. 👍🏾
