You always say, "romancing the ordinary", my kids hear me say, "it's what Laura would do"... love this idea, your garden, your videos. In a totally not weird way. 🌸
In my mind (because I'm way too lazy to actually do this), I can imagine making a calendar out of this, somehow swapping out the center piece each month with a vignette of the new month's plants, leaves, flowers. You could frame the outside with a swappable frame that has each flower/plant/leaf around the center, with the botanical names and short description of each object. The best part is it's a high-personable calendar because everything in it came from your own garden. Nice, Laura. Very nice.
“.... because I am way too lazy to actually do this” that would apply to me too. 😂 My mind is a flurry of ideas but I know I will never find the time to even trying.
Oh, what a good idea! Probably Laura may consider make some calandars to sell them or at least some cards for us to frame or to use them in any kind of project that we would like to.
@@InverseDream Again, waaaaay too lazy, but what I want you to take away from this video is that Laura did something creative and inspired you or at least made you think of what you *could* do. Whatever happens from there, in your mind or deed , is... *art* . I imagined a calendar. What did this video inspire you or make you think you could do? *THAT'S* the point of all of this. Peace.
@@Bamboo4U2 Yes! I have two frames in my dining area, with (now very old) fern fronds I pressed and put between two glass pieces in the frames. I've wanted, for a long time, to create rotating versions to swap out seasonally. This video helped me better imagine how that will (*WILL*) work - and look!
My 7yo daughter was so thoughtfully given a flower press for her birthday that she was so excited to receive - this video has given us some nice easy beginner ideas! Thank you 😊
As a little girl my Grandmother and I would always pick and press flowers from her garden. She just passed away a couple weeks ago. I think I know what I am doing today...picking and pressing flowers from my garden to honor her. I have some bright fusia impatients and purple salvia that will be perfect. Thanks for the reminder of something so very special to me.
Back in the 70s, pressed flowers were a hot crafting item. I put them on colored honeycomb wax sheets instead of paper. I still have one left that has had a place in my decor for over 40 years. I used vintage frames so if it was vintage in the 70s, it is an antique now!
I loved watching this! I was raised in a flower garden-loving family. Years ago, I picked flowers from my mine, Gram's and Mom's flower gardens, unbeknownst to them. I pressed and preserved the flowers and arranged them in 5 X 7 frames for them for a gift. When they passed away, their frames were placed in their caskets with them so they could have flowers from our gardens with them forever.
I have been pressing flowers for years. I store mine in between the pages of a sketchbook. It allows you to write the name of the flower or leaf on the page so you don't forget.
How sweet/delightful your video! Loved it. I spent weeks 30 some years ago pressing pansies and Johnny Jump Ups to adorn the envelopes of my son’s wedding invitations and envelopes. I pressed them I big books between tissues. No computer then to look it up on how. I followed the idea out of a simple child’s craft book. I used a spray glue to attach them instead of Alene’s. Years later my grandson found one of the pressed flowers in a big encyclopedia book . It was still beautiful. He put it in his girlfriends Math book as a surprise w/ a note, and when she found opened up , she was surprised right there in the classroom. Thanks for the video. Wish I had known about a flower press then!
Beautiful as always Laura! I would recommend that one should take a picture with their phone when they have a pleasing composition to remember when it comes to gluing (in case things move).
That would be perfect for her! Take the little Dollar Tree frames & make several mini ones to hang. I like taking roses I either receive or from my garden, hanging them to dry & then stuffing them into the branches of some of my trees. Sometimes I will take dried baby's breath, statice, etc. & wrap it w/ floral tape around the rose stem to make a more dramatic effect.
Hey Laura. First time sending you a message. I just wanted to say how thankful I am to have found your channel, A little background story for you. I am new when it comes to gardening, me and my partner have just bought our first house this past year and I have really taken to your channel for inspiration and knowledge. I do have some pictures I would love to show u someday. Without your channel I could not have had so much fun. My family and neighbours always stop and say how nice my gardens are and how far the house has come since we got it. Thank you so much for everything. Joshua
TBH i did not want this video to end. It looks so adorable!😍😍 The heuchera blooms were my fav thing! As for single plant highlighting, a fern leaf would be an absolute stunner! The intricateness of some ferns is bizzare!
You have no idea how happy your video made me today! I had forgotten this simple pleasure I used to do with my Mom when I was little. I ran outside this afternoon to snip a few blooms and leaves, and already have the pressing. Thank you for the reminder of a beautiful way to use what we have available to us from our own garden.
I love this! Now you've got me thinking about making place cards for my Thanksgiving table using pressed flowers and the little Dollar Tree frames. That way everyone who wanted to could take it home with them. 🍂 🍃 🍁 💕
My grandmother used to do this and used the dried flowers to make cards that she sold. She used old books as presses. My daughter loved the cards she made and when she went to Ireland to visit her husbands family she picked lots of wildflowers on the walks she took. She pressed them in some books and brought them home. When they were dry she made beautiful framed pictures for all the in laws that live here in the U.S. Her husbands grandmother loved it so much she cried. They all thought it was such an amazing idea.
As a video idea for next year, I would love to see a "day in the life" or/and "week of your life" Having a small child, video editing, cleaning, and everything in the garden and everything else it seems like alot. I would love to see how you manage it all in the summer.
After the dry run take a picture of it with your phone to refer back to especially if you are doing a bigger arrangement. Love the videos, so inspiring!
Wow....not only a great topic, but a really well made video--the background, no glare, great music, good camera angles, great editing. Very nicely done. Love watching your videos. Kudos to you both.
I remember, when culling my parents' treasures to move them into an apt., we came across framed pressed flower arrangements. My dad said his grandmother created them.
You never cease to amaze me. I remember pressing flowers when I was in grade 3 (40 some years ago). We carefully put the flowers in old books to press and then the teacher put her filing cabinet on it's side on the books. That memory has stuck with me all these years. It's a beautiful memory. I need to do this again.
This video took me back to a childhood memory hadn’t thought of in years. My mother could find a four leaf clover 🍀 in amongst all the 3 leaf ones. She would press them in between the plastic card holders that come with wallets and also her bible. Thank you 🙏 for this memory. 🍀💚🎚
This is absolutely Beautiful Laura. I really wish I would of started collecting some flowers while they were at there Best .. But I will do some leaves from my trees and I might find a flower or two.. Your such an inspiration Laura .. Thank You for sharing and .. GOD Bless You and Your Family ..

Love this video - i will try my first this week. Hint on when you have your flowers designed on paper and before glueing - use Press n Seal to press down on your design, pick up and turn over to put your glue on, flip back over and press down and then remove the Press n Seal - all done just like you designed it.
Such a neat project. I'm definitely taking my kids out for walk to gather pretty leaves and flowers. Thank you for all beautiful ideas. You are very motivating.

I love the idea of putting them in a frame! I have twin 13-year-olds and I think they would love to do a project like this! Walking around our garden and finding beautiful foliage and blooms. I can't wait to try this with them! :)
A piece of art like this from your garden would be the ultimate Garden Answer merch. :) My husband walked past me near the end this video and said "she has a good eye". Cool project.
My grandmother did this all the time, when she past away we found them everywhere. Hidden treasures and gifts she left for us.
What a special thing she did!!

A piece of art like this from your garden would be the ultimate Garden Answer merch. :) My husband walked past me near the end this video and said "she has a good eye". Cool project.
Thanks Laura, love the idea and the flower pressed frame is beautiful. 😊😊
