Yes there’s been several times where I would just go and hang out in Disney springs and then I’ll hop over to a resort and just take them around so yes very beloved thing to do
It would be awesome if they continued to build even more monorail tracks. I know it is costly but look at the longevity of what is in service now it would pay for itself and then some.
I first job at WDW was Monorail Operator in 1971 Park opening. Lots of stories, but just two points here. 1. One of my supervisors had been hired by Walt Disney when he was eleven years old to play Tom Sawyer on Tom Sawyers Island. 2. We always had guests in the cab with us. I did have Mrs. Walt Disney and Mrs. Roy Disney at the same time. Don't recall the year, but I did leave to become one of six cast members selected to be an opening Trainer and Lead at Space Mountain. We started "the mountain," in September 1974. It was in the final months of construction. We developed a SOP, trained about 180 cast members for the January 15, 1975 opening. We did have "soft openings" during December 2074. That meant the attraction would open unannounced and operate for a few hours to test the operation. Oh the stories we could tell. Our lips are sealed. I am now 67 years old and many of my Disney friends have passed. I have to remember those early days. I have not been in about twenty-years. The entire place has been ruined by the almighty dollar. Be well.
A bigger difference between the Mark 4(?) trains that opened WDW and today was that they all had six doors per car- one per row of seats. The train would pull in and stop, then this iconic popping sound would echo down the train line as all 36 doors popped open. This was back when regular people could ride up front.
It has always been my favorite transportation mode. It fit in with my favorite world, Future World, very well! I just wish Monorail Purple (my favorite color) was still running as it seemed so futuristic!
The late 2 times I went to Disney works I rode in the cab of the monorail 🚝 with the employee driver. That was within the last year. I love it. Can’t wait to do it again. 😀
Don't remember seeing the Epcot Station swapping Entrance and Exits when I rode it July 28, 2021. Guests still exited on the west side down the ramp and entered on the east side as they always have.
So I'm guessing that old classic (outside) smell that came off the Disneyland Monorail was the petroleum tire tar smell coming from the monorail? It always had a unique odor that protruded from it when it would pass by. Not a unpleasant smell either. I tired looking it up and all I could find on this "magical" old odor was current complaints about a horrible smell inside it. I'm talking here about the outside when it passed by. In t he 70's, 80s & 90s. Almost made me think it was some kind of special gas as a kid, but now I'm only lead to believe it was the tires on it that would be what we would smell. As time went on as a kid, this was a awesome signature scent of Disneyland that was a magical odor of being there. It was never an unpleasant odor. Anybody truly know?
Me and my family have some great memories of the monorail. It was so cool to learn new facts about it in this video. I had no idea that it was Lillian's idea! I like this style of video. You have so much knowledge of Disney to share. I can't wait to see what other videos you come up with for this video style. It was visually a very attractive video too!!! For now, "por favor montages en alejado..." haha 😆
Great info Michael! Disney should use this for a promo video, you have the perfect voice too. I’ve ridden this since 1978 and I still can’t remember the Spanish !
Back in the 80’s, our family rode in the front car of the monorail with the driver many times. It was an amazing view and it’s a shame it is no longer allowed
Awesome video!!! Thanks for sharing. A quick history lesson on the Mickey/Minnie ears would be awesome too. Or maybe you've already done that? Let us know. 👍
Insignificant detail, but your mention of “no additional cost” reminded me that on Disneyland monorail you used to be able to pay for a round trip ride from the Disneyland Hotel.
The monorail is my favorite but I also love the sky liner too!

The Jack Wagner announcements heard all around disney are not the same Jack Wagner from General Hospital lol
@@floridalawgirl exactly Jack Wagner was the voice of Disneyland long before the other Jack even started acting.

not gonna happen now. Now they actually have to have them inspected by outside government. poor Disney,.
Monorail used to be my favorite transportation, but now I think the sky liner is pretty awesome.
I remember as a Kid I would insist to my parents on riding the monarail in the front at least once a trip! It was the best!

The Jack Wagner from General Hospital is not old enough to be the voice, lol
I claim this energy (this is literally only gonna make sense to one singular person on planet earth)
It ranks right up there with the seafaring transportation. Nothing better for me than hopping on a boat at Fort Wilderness and heading over the MK.
I’d love to see the monorail extended to the AK

My son and myself rode in the car with the pilot the very first time we went to WDW in 2007 it was a great view
We love the monorail! So glad the EPCOT line is open again!
Never been yes know all the facts of the monorail
Great info. I remember getting my "pilot's card" when riding in the front
I thought i saw Homer Simson driving it ? Its amazing none have crashed yet..
There was a crash in 2009 where two monorails collided
Great video! My 2yo loved the monorail on our visit.
been to disney World 4 times in my life , i cant believe u cant ride in the front anymore... used to spend so much time with those engineers
Always love it . we call it a ride in our family.
Love the Mickey and Minnie one in Disneyland❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would say for me a trip to wdw isn’t complete without a ride on the monorail
Great video! Love the facts!
Epcot station entrance and exit have been on the same sides since 1982. Same with the TTC station.

Fun fact, Disney helped design and build the Seattle monorail for the world's fair. Ours is still in use.
Wow I never knew that
Loved this info! Very relaxing and nostalgic video.
There’s 2 Jack Wagner’s. I don’t think the voice was the soap opera actor
Love when you do these little info videos!!! Thanks Michael😊

Cruise vlogs buddy!!!! That other guy is almost done...
That other guy, lol .....
Was hoping for the cruise vlogs too!
I have a die cast model of the monorail I got at gift shop it’s about 1:18 scale I display it in a case
Great job, Michael! A nice departure from you’re usual format. It was an informative, lovely video!!!

Back in the 80’s, our family rode in the front car of the monorail with the driver many times. It was an amazing view and it’s a shame it is no longer allowed
It’s mostly because of the 2009 monorail crash
VERY INTERESTING YOU HAVE A GREAT VOICE
Nope, not Jack Wagner from General Hospital.
Great trivia about the monorail! Love it! Nice job Michael!
Not like the overheadlines here more effective instead it has minture power boxses each carriage does it no jam
Love the monorail! It’s a must do on your Disney trip. 🚝
When are the cruise vlogs?? Was looking forward to it today.
Yep, Kyle Pallo has the entire cruise up!
They need to extend the monorail to all the theme parks and water parks and to Disney springs and animal kingdom lodge!
Will you be posting videos from your Dream cruise?
Awesome video!!! Thanks for sharing. A quick history lesson on the Mickey/Minnie ears would be awesome too. Or maybe you've already done that? Let us know. 👍
Wow great monorail vlog. Ichael
Wow watching u late today. Hope your cruise was great.: missed both of you.
Where are cruise vlogs?
First 😆
Did you say concrete and polystyrene?? 😦😬 As in styrofoam?!
I thought the same thing! Haha!
@@dolewhipaday6672 😂😂😂
Not gonna lie. Played this twice just to hear you say it in Spanish, lol :)
Insignificant detail, but your mention of “no additional cost” reminded me that on Disneyland monorail you used to be able to pay for a round trip ride from the Disneyland Hotel.
First!! Have a great day!
Why this video so slow?? 😒😴
L
🚝 I appreciate the monorail is powered by electricity generated by the solar power panels located on property!!! 🌞🚄💨
i know they have updated the monorails so they are automated the pilots no longer actually drive it they just are there in case of an emergency
