We seriously need a remaster collection of these games on PS5 with an updated Trophy list, 4K, 60+fps and some quality of life improvements. EDIT - Forgot to mention use of DualSense features!!
Better yet, all the tracks, environments, and all the vehicles together along with new ones, refined vehicle handling physics with a choice between Pacific Rift and Apocalypse gravity, a replay feature, huge offline and online content, huge customization, and you would have the most epic MotorStorm ever created, and what a state-of-the-art PS5 arcade racing game is like. That would absolutely sell millions of copies!
Hands down the greatest racing game ever created. Atmosphere, concept, tracks, music, physics, smooth gameplay and incredible graphics. Crafted with love and passion...
Well said, top 5 racing game for me personally. It's badass and so thrilling between the gameplay & sound design/soundtrack that fits like a glove. Worst part is probably indeed the late game opponents, they really do throw entire races just to block your path, as if you're the only one actually trying to win. Not to mention the pain of having to basically play flawlessly for gold, while the AI look like they're driving on rails, blatantly taking off through a corner at twice the player's speed, as if switching the physics on and off
No racing game has surpassed Motorstorm Pacific Rift since it came out. It is in desperate need of a remake. Or just re-release the game as is, it's still better than anything else out there.
Thank you so much for showing this game to the public today. I consider MotorStorm not just my favorite racing series but my favorite game series PERIOD! I hope and pray that this series returns in some form some day. #LunaticsReunite
I'd so love it if an indie dev made a spiritual successor to this series... because at this point that's the only way that another game like this one could be made. As is, MotorStorm has a small but very dedicated fanbase lingering around. Which does mean for big studios there's very little profit in even remastering these games.
I finished this game this year too, actually. It's better than the first one in every way. I played Festival until the credits rolled. You're totally right about the late game AI. The last several events in each zone could take more than an hour (each race) to get gold. I didn't know about the ducking and bunny hops on the motorcycles though. Thanks for the review!
They have Motorstorm Apocalypse on PS Premium, but for some reason not Pacific Rift. If the music licensing is the issue, I'd gladly take an alternative soundtrack if it just meant we could play this game. Why Sony chose Apocalypse but ignored Pacific Rift is crazy to me.
Not bringing these to PC is a sin to me, just to carry on the amazing legacy this game left. I live to see the franchises content remastered or redone and brought together with a new engine.
A wonderful & quite detailed review of my absolute favorite racing game in the series! I have all the DLC & have mastered the dramatic tracks & vehicles! The incredible setting & gigantic air you obtain in this game radically puts it over the top for me, this game & a few special others alone warrants having a PS3, just to experience it!
I got this game when i boight my ps3. Glad i got it! Such fun memories. And looking at this video made me realise that this is one of the best racing games ever created in my opinion. I hope they will make a remake of this one
It's an absolute crime that Playstation works so well with their first party developers. And yet the only racing game that playstation has is Gran Turismo at the moment. What ever happened to Motorstorm, Wipeout, and Jak X Combat Racing.
Evolution Studios (Motorstorm) was shut down then restructured themselves to Codemasters Evo / Cheshire only to be sold to Electronic Antichrist who turned them into a support Need For Speed studio Liverpool Studios (Wipeout) was shut down then restructured themselves into Firesprite which was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment Naughty Dog (Jak X Combat Racing) simply moved on to focus on creating Uncharted Drake's Fortune
My favorite is that when you're _on_ a bike, if something big is behind you, your driver will look over his shoulder. It's like a bad omen.😂 Whenever they do that, I'm like ah nah im about to get mashed💀
You can actually still play this game and the first one online. You just have to change the DNS settings on your PlayStation. There’s a couple groups out there that have been keeping this game alive with their own servers. Because of that, you can actually manage to get the DLC for the first game now, as you can update it when using their servers.
I wonder... can online unlocks be gotten through that too? If so, that's great for Pacific Rift where there are some vehicles that are online unlocks only. Hope Apocalypse can get online too at some point because all of the game's unlocks are online only... sadly.
if you're planning on covering other entries for the series, you're probably going to like arctic edge (ps2 & psp). another big shift in environment, you're taken up to the white hell of the arctic circle. some new vehicle classes are introduced, the new environment change the class balance and lead you to face new hazards. this one has lots of offline content too.
check out the 3rd installment(apocalypse) as well. not as good overall but very interesting tracks. love the principle oft motorstorm. would love to see something similar or reworked hd version...
I beat the campaign of this game and it was incredibly hard. I had to do each race absolutely perfectly. People always make fun of me because my Playstation icon is the motorstorm helmet. Most people think that's the default Playstation icon but I use it because I actually beat the game
Same. This was one of the first games I played when I got a PS3 for Christmas in '08. I don't know how, but I lost my original copy. I think I might've misplaced it and it never turned up again. Either way, I never got to play it again. Didn't get too far into the career, either, from what I recall.
Its too bad the developers later put out a new game with a different company that people were hoping would be basically MotorStorm, and instead it wasn't and so it fell flat.
You can attack other racers on ATVs and Bikes in the first game, it just requires you to be at the right moment and pressing the square button to attack the other rider. That shit is too complicated, so Pacific Rift sinplified that tenfold.
I still have the Motorstorm games (Motorstorm + MS: Pacific Rift + MS: Apocalypse)...but sadly, my PS3 took a dump on me and I don't have the money to get a replacement. :(
Don't know why, but it looks way worse than the first one for me. The change of setting is to blame, probably, but I still haven't played it, despite loving the first one so much
The textures are sometimes more flat and static compared to the first game because it relied more on the muddy, deformable trails which are quite impressive (they are also in Pacific Rift though - 3:54). *Cars tearing up the track and getting covered in mud is just very satisfying.* There is much more visual variety and scale in the second game (lots of foliage, for example, is more taxing to render) so I suppose they had to make some compromises.
Looked forward to seeing your thoughts on this vs the first, really glad you enjoyed it as much as you did! Glad I'm not the only one who thinks those last stages are an insane difficulty spike too; AI seems to get almost artificially faster. Still a blast though. I think this is the best in the series and it gets a little wacky going forward ..dare I say too cluttered as well.

As was the first MotorStorm
They just simply don't make them like this anymore. What an incredible game.
motorstorm, playstation home, little big planet, black ops 1, siren blood curse (or something like that) those were the days.
Not making a sequel for ps5 is a fucking sin. This game's boost mechanic felt so nice and powerful. Love the aggresive feel of the game

MotorStorm with all environments, tracks, and vehicles in one package for ps5 and PC would be a dream come true that is long overdue.
Wreckfest comes close in the terms of chaos.
The ultimate Motorstorm!

Imprisoned on PS3, because of licenced music and Sony closed Evolution. And lacking interest in their back cataloge.

I love your racing game reviews. That's how I discovered you. Still waiting for that Pacer game review!
One of the few 3DTV support games out there for the PS3. Easily one of my favorite games on the console.

I Just don’t understand why they don’t remaster this cause I feel personally they would make sooooo much more money doin it
The series, at this point, only has a small but dedicated fanbase. There's little to no potential profit in remastering or continuing the series.
This game looks awesome, but my most played Motorstorm title was Arctic Edge for the PSP.
You should've mentionned that emulated servers do exist for that game
You gonna check the PSP one as well? That one really rocks and manages to squish all that awesome off road mayhem onto a handheld.

Usually I fast-forward while watching a review, but this video is well-made and I watched every second.
I'm excited for you to get to that apocalyptic motor storm since I have no idea about anything related to it
Best MotorStorm ever made, no question, this game truly made its predecessor look weaker.
the game logo intro use to jump scare me as a kid back in the days.
the soundtrack is heavier compared to monument valley, it's kinda neat
SICK SICK SICK

Apocalypse overall is a fun game, not all that bad to be honest, but Pacific Rift is an honest blast to play.
