    Another amazing video, Megan! I usually opt for Airbnb or similar platforms when I travel. You've covered all the essentials, and the tip about changing the checkout date is fantastic. I would also suggest checking the most recent reviews, as they tend to reflect the current state of the accommodation more accurately. Well done!

    Just come back from Seoul and used Airbnb. I second the thing about looking for ones with good reviews and several. Also ask lots of questions to see how good the owner is at communication. A lot of the Airbnb are self check by keypad and won't give you the code until a couple of hours before check in. So testing communication is good. Interesting enough our last place to stay was the Hanok House you show at the beginning of the video.
    Also worth remembering is cultural differences if from western countries (so may not get things you expect eg. No bath towels, only spoons and chopsticks for eating. ).

    I’m in a hotel in Seoul right now and I have the thing to control the temperature. I can’t go below 18 C though. But that’s fine because that’s perfect temperature for me. I do find it gets changed when the housekeeper comes in 😂

    Hello Megan, thank you for creating these videos.
    I'm American; from Southern California
    In your "Travel Guide 2023: Where to Stay in South Korea" you gave the following rating for Meyong-Dong:
    Blend- 4
    Ease- 4
    Nightlife- 2
    Location- 5
    Shopping- 3.5
    In this video and another recent one "2024 South Korea Travel Guide!", you're saying Meyong-Dong is now "happening".
    Are you referring to the Nightlife? If so, what rating would you give it now?

    • @MeganOsten
      @MeganOsten  6 місяців тому

      Blend- 4.5
      Ease- 4
      Nightlife (which I’m signifying as partying/drinking culture)- 2
      Location- 5 (warning - always crowded and full of foreigners now)
      Shopping- 3 (lots to do now but I think a lot of the shops are touristy and I would recommend going up to Ssamziegil instead)
      I personally still don’t like staying there because now it’s overcrowded but others would disagree because they like to be in the middle of the touristy areas for convenience! Plenty of good street food at night though!! Overpriced but fun~
      Hope that helps 😊

    Hi Megan! Thanks for this very helpful video. If a host is a “superhost”, does it mean that the apartment is going to be decent even if this host is relatively new on Airbnb platform? Are ground floor apartments necessarily red flags?

    So many AirBnbs listings in Seoul (and surrounding area) are not real, not active, or just for like…day use and events/parties. So frustrating. I messaged 4 hosts that looked promising and they all said their place was unavailable (despite the listing calendar saying otherwise). I gave up and went with a hotel 😅

  • @johnjhl6943

    hey Megan, I'm travelling to Korea in September for 3 weeks but I couldn't find a suitable Airbnb accommodation for our family of four, comprising two adults and two kids. As a result, I went ahead and booked a hotel instead. However, I'm starting to reconsider my decision after reading complaint reviews about guests unable to control the room temperature, just like what you mentioned. I wanted to check with you if you know of any Airbnb options that would accommodate family of 4 in convenient location and reasonably priced.

      whats your preferred district location in Seoul?

  • @GabrielLorenzoSantos
    @GabrielLorenzoSantos 6 місяців тому

    Coming from your comment of asking the owner to change the check-out date, I realized that for my past Airbnb bookings in Seoul, they all allow rebooking for free and I also get a refund for the remaining days. Is that different from the case you mentioned or is this becoming a generally acceptable practice?

    • @MeganOsten
      @MeganOsten  6 місяців тому +1

      So each Airbnb can have their own regulations! Some say they don’t offer refunds at all, some have different cancellation policies… so you want to look over the Airbnb’s rules before you book!

    • @MeganOsten
      @MeganOsten  Місяць тому

      Sadly, this is a problem around the world but it can also happen in hotels and bathrooms everywhere 😔 It is more important to check the place you are staying by watching videos on UA-cam on how to find hidden cameras in your room!

    I’m so worried on recording devices. US airbnbs have issues with it and SK has the issue too.

    • @MeganOsten
      @MeganOsten  7 місяців тому

      Sadly, in Korea, they’re everywhere… hotels would have them just as often (if not even more).
      There are ways to check if your space has them or not! Look-up videos online so you know how to. But overall - I wouldn’t live in fear! If you’re really concerned about this, then you can change in the bathroom or under the covers. It’s gonna be okay! 🫂
