The hypocrisy is what gets to me as well. It is so hard to not say anything when people talk about things like the 'dog meat festival'. Like I'm glad they are upset about it but like......pigs are just as smart as dogs and if it's not ok to torture and kill dogs for meat then it's not ok for this to be happening to ANY animal. The picking and choosing of what animals are ok to torture is what drives me crazy. I try really hard to not be "that vegan" that is preachy and annoying but at the end of the day I can't stand it. I know so much of it is just willful ignorance. You're turning a blind eye but for what reason? Taste? Convenience? Sorry I went on a tangent it's just so upsetting and I hold my tongue ALL the time.
People act like harming dogs is uniquely awful because they’re smarter/more moral/whatever, but they’re just more receptive to commands. Most animals will be affectionate and loyal to someone who feeds and pets them, including « livestock » animals.
I get what your saying, it’s difficult to understand sometimes, I turned vegan last September, unfortunately I lost a lot of weight and I’m already skinny, I’ll probably try again when I’m living in my own place because I think you know that if you crave a food like broccoli for example, then your body is telling you, you need those nutrients and i don’t want to disrespect the person making the food by saying I wanted something else, you know? However, I am still vegetarian and i remember how it shocked me how all the adverts didn’t have actual animals in them when I turned veggie! They had families eating fish fingers and chicken nuggets and it hit me how brainwashed I’d been for so long 🤯 it’s so normal in our culture, I know it’s not supposed to be but it is
"Love" animals is terrible framing. I don't love 99.999999999% of the nonhuman and human animals whom I unequivocally respect. We don't have to love someone to respect them......it doesn't even make sense to suggest that the converse to disrespecting animals is to love them.
this is very true. I guess I was trying to the point that it's ridiculous that so many people claim to love animals yet have no problem supporting an industry that is so cruel to them at the same time. Even though we shouldn't even have to love animals to not cause harm to them.
Cheap Lazy Vegan I definitely see your point, Rose..because so many people will say that they love dogs and cats and so would never harm them. The thing is, when they say they love animals, they just mean the one's that they've been conditioned not to eat. But you also get people going to farms and zoos saying that they love the cows, sheep and pigs, etc..and then going home to eat a steak. They are completely disconnected. I have a woman at my job who took her grandkids to see farm animals and gushed how cute they were..but when I said that I see cows, pigs, chickens and sheep the same way as dogs and cats, she said that she didn't agree. People are so brainwashed and ignorant. It's sad. But I can't say anything because I used to be the same way. 😳 xx
@@fabfourfever674 Almost all vegans were culturally conditioned in a similar way....you and I are no exception, of course. My point about framing the issue as "love" is that: 1) love is a deeply emotional feeling that the vast majority of people reserve for special individuals in their lives 2) people who eat meat generally don't hate those animals they are eating; the flip side to disrespecting the life and autonomy of those animals is not "love" but rather "respect" 3) most people will never feel a deep emotional connection ("love") with all or even most animals so if we are to convey a message about the way we ought to treat animals, "loving them" is just not going to work for the vast majority of animals.....but respecting the life of an animal can work for most peoplke I'd argue since people don't need to feel a deep emotional connection to all animals in order to not disrespect their life/autonomy.
@marian roberto *I don't disrespected animals I just eat them* - said the carnist *I don't disrespected toddlers I just sodomize them* - said the pedophile *I don't disrespected people I just kill them* - said the mass murderer Might doesn't make right. Desires don't morally justify needless, intentional violence perpetrated upon sentient individuals.
OH my goodness, yes! Thank you for being transparent and honest! I was literally just talking about this in my "Thoughts on New & EX Vegans | WHY They Fail" It is so important for OG vegans to talk about their struggles!
I went vegan overnight after watching earthlings. It was a very easy decision and it was a very easy transition for me. I had been struggling with depression before then and being vegan refuled my motivation and got me excited about cooking again. My family does poke fun at me and being around animals products does bother me but I will never go back to being a non vegan
It was been a tough few days but now i'm enjoying it! Living as an vegetarian or vegan in S.Korea is rlly hard. Barely supports and prejudices are prevailed
If everyone stopped eating meat, the industry would collapse and farming certain breeds would become extinct. Choosing to be vegan doesn't make you morally altruistic or fashionable. It makes you a hypocrite because in the long term, you're preventing animal life in the way you claim us "evil" meat eaters do.
@@thecatface8255 I originally had the same thought, but I've changed my mind on that once I learned how bad meat and dairy are for you and that they are simply not needed. A proper vegan diet has already been approved by all stages of life by the american and uk dietetic association, so as long as you eat a good, whole foods, plant based diet. If when they are older they want to choose then fair enough, but I don't see it is the same as religon due to the increased risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. There are more things than this but I don't want to rant to much. TLDR: I used to think it was a purely ethical choice just like religion, but after looking into a lot of scientific literature I think its better to raise them vegan and then let them choose when they can risk assess themselves.
@@imMundy If you raise a kid and not make them wear socks. They wont start randomly wearing socks when they grow up. Diet should be the person choice not the parents because parents dont always know best and how do we know she will give the child a proper vegan diet? Its a risk thats not worth it.
@Sugar Vale When did I say chocolate and fried chicken is healthy? Saying I don't want a child to be forced to be a vegan doesn't mean I want a child to shove chocolate down their throat. Im for healthy diets and most parents will probably give their kids an improper vegan diet so with an omnivorous diet its easier for the parents.
It's dangerous to go vegan while being pregnated. Please consider eating some animal based protein (while you're pregnated) in order to give your children nutrients needed for a correct development and don't depleat yourself from them. Once your child is born you can go back to vegan. Raising a vegan child its not the safest move as there's still a lot of controversy on benefits vs cons. and the posibble consecuences for health in human beings on development. On the other hand, many adults (25yr old and on) do great on vegan diet since our body has the ability to recycle proteins.
You go girl.. Your so truthful and honest.. I'm vegan for the animals , it's the best thing I've done and wish I'd done it earlier in my life.. It's helped my depression and gives me hope for the future since I lost my son ..
She talks about critical thinking as one of the pros and it's so true..ever since going vegan i think about things so much..🤔following the norms is not always a good idea because some of the norms are freaking crazy and if one the norms is to eat animals and act lile its not causing harm to the world than just imagine what else is going on that i dont realize
yeah and ignorance and hypocrisy even more. it's really their favourite, free available drugs of choice. non-prescription but it should be made illegal :)
A few days ago someone offered me something and I said "no thanks, I'm vegan" They said "I didn't know people could go vegan *voluntarily*" and then went on to ask me where I get my protein from 😐
lol did they think people who were vegan were only doing it for medical reasons or something? The lack of common sense people have continues to surprise me.
@@nikireppa6939 Protein? From the shop mostly if vegan roadkill not available. :D When the next surprised one will pop out ask him how much protein is in baby formula after water is added.
Rose, you are absolutely the person who most inspired me to become vegan. I love the way you talk about veganism. It is often in a very pragmatic way, which is why I think it's so effective. Thank you
Personally I went vegan over night and it's been the best decision I've ever made I lost 10 pounds in the first month I've stopped have pimples my stool has become much more regular and a normal size, and in general I feel alot better
Great video. I love being vegan and having a vegan whole plants foods based diet and also apply the other aspects of veganism as is practical. Whole Plants Foods are the best for you. If I occasionally eat an animal based product by mistake it doesn't mean you are not vegan because we're not perfect and we don't live in a vegan world.
Daniel Reynolds Nobody is "watering" anything down. 😒 We *don't* live in a vegan world, and sometimes accidents happen. The key word is *accident* . If you *knowingly* eat animal products, that's different.
@@fabfourfever674 you really arent paying attention. animal agriculture is the single biggest threat to humanity. it is the one thing that we must address if we are ever to be successful at mitigating the damage weve already done.. and will be impossible if left unaddressed.. i laugh when i saw the scrutiny that the NO MEAT part of the green new deal got.. jesus christ.. animal torture shouldnt be a political issue.. its like slavery being a politcal issue. Incompetent narcissism. animals are not ours to do with as we will.
Daniel Reynolds please be nice. as a fellow vegan i understand your frustration but by reaction this way you make it seem that all vegans are angry vegans and not really a good showing a good example. Also i have to agree with eating it by accident it’s not that you’re not vegan anymore. everyones tries their best and we live in a nonvegan world which can make it hard to be “perfect”.
@@Vscustomprinting You sound SO angry like the liberal population that is trying to ruin our country today. You refer to the "green new deal" like it is something to behold, especially when you stated, "I laugh when I saw the scrutiny that the NO MEAT part of the green new deal got." Well, let me inform you that, that part of the weirdo AOC's 'plan' is the ONLY part that makes sense. AOC is an alcoholic moron.and even Nasty Nancy Pelosi laughed and called that plan "enthusiastic," and made fun of it. Killing babies is a HUGE tragedy as much as killing animals. To think otherwise is showing no experience in life, and being very naive and sheepish= following progressive imbeciles like AOC.
Today my class had to present their homework essay about wether or not they think not eating meat is good and most of them have written that it‘s good to eat less meat and to get that meat from a farmer, that is treating the animals good. But they ALL argumented, that you wouldn‘t get the nutrients you need without eating meat. I was so shocked. I really thought, that no one still thinks that, I know that there are some people that don‘t know how you get b12 if you are vegan (which I am) , not just vegetarian. Bit that‘s just so stupid, why do people still think that??? They just see that as a FACT and never read anything about it or inform themselves .. And also they don‘t even know how unhealthy they are, if they eat Chicken Burgers at school and that other junk food that we sadly have here, they think they get their important nutrients from that stuff?!?! And then they‘re trying to criticize me for not eating that junk and really being concious of what I eat and which nutrients and calories there are in it. Ugh .. I just don‘t know what to say. And I can‘t even explain to them, why that is my choice, because when I tell them, that I don‘t want to harm any animal, they just make jokes about me or accuse me of being an ,,angry vegan‘‘, even though I NEVER say ANYTHING if they‘re sitting next to me, eating a hotdog. But if I eat a vegan yoghurt or sth next to them, they have to make fun of me. It‘s so sad...
I do have lot of interactions in high school and at work with non-vegans and I can tell you that all the hate comes from them becuase you as a vegan are a reminder for them that they do the wrong thing paying for dead animals and for cruelty. Always remember that you actually do the right thing and there should always be more compassionate people like you. 💚🌱🌱
Also the argument that they should buy from a local farmer is bullshit as they care only about their stomachs, not about the animals. I'm pretty sure 95% of them buy from McDonald's and KFC which is not anywhere near "farm animals that are treated well". Search for *Earthling Ed* and you'll see some videos that he made in the past about overused arguments against veganism. Watch a few of them and you'll have enough information to respond back to your colleagues.
Jeremyth You‘re probably right but it‘s so annoying to try not to do any harm to any animals and then be judged so much for it 😢 Thank you so much for your comment though💗
Jeremyth I know! All of them are eating meat that they get as well and then try to argue with this, even though also THAT would be still cruel. 🙄 It’s just dumb But thank you so much for the tip 💗💗
Yes, our health classes are very lacking in the us. I tried very hard to learn to eat healthy but it wasn't until I started reading about veganism that I started to really fill in the gaps about nutrition. I eat so much healthier now, and I thought I did before. Our education system needs a revamp.
Eggs are the final thing I have to transition out of. I haven't eaten meat in years and over time my body is SUPER lactose intolerant so I have been avoiding dairy like the plague. It's slow but I'm getting there.
Rose you Rock! 🤘Went Vegan for serious health issues at age 56 (4 years ago) - that's lots of years of being addicted to cheese! But I'm doing so much better now and feel so good about my life. The social thing is hard at any age, and I still have one relative who every Thanksgiving says "You can have some turkey today because it's a special occasion, right?" 😆 I politely smile and say no thank you, and then enjoy the vegetables that are on the table (which the relatives very kindly leave any dairy products out of so I can eat them!). Thanks for all your wonderful videos and recipes Rose, they are really helping me on this journey! 😃👍❤️
I was on the other side of the screen snapping my fingers, giving a "YASSS GIRL!", and going 'militant' with you on this. I truly cannot understand people's ability to ignore core values. Rather that is vegan or vegetarian; this just fits better with core human compassion. PS, link Mic the Vegan. He is amazing at explaining research and gives real support and insight.
It’s true, a few months after going vegan something clicked inside me. I felt like I had a purpose in life now. In the past I’ve always been torn with having a career that helped animals or helped human animals. I realized being vegan I can help both. 💞💞💞🌱🌱💞💞💞
You make very informative, measured and encouraging videos. The part that struck me the most was when you said to have empathy - everyone needs to hear that every so often I think. Empathy for animals and empathy for each other 💕
I love the way you spoke here. I love how real you get with the cons. Every right decision in life is difficult. Thank you for reminding everyone that humans are animals too and that our emotions aren’t that easy to brush away. I’ve admired you so much for the past few years. That admiration has only grown. You go!
When I ate meat I used to think critically, I used to think that every living organism wants to survive- onions and chillis have their own defence mechanisms. I also thought that if we had to take supplements (vitamin b12 and omega 3) instead of eating meat then surely we’re supposed to eat meat. However, then I thought about the environment and thought actually if taking a couple of pills and changing what I eat a bit every day can help the planet, then ok I’ll give it a go!
Victoria-Louise Sweet after watching Cowspiracy I decided to go vegan. It wasn't for the animal cruelty, or the possible health benefits of a vegan diet, or even the side effect of having a lower grocery bill. All of those other reasons became just as important after the first "mental click". That click will be different for everyone. Which is why we should all remain patient with those who haven't made the switch yet. Compassion for animals was a learned thing for me. I decided to do my part to protect the environment by voting with my dollar. No longer spending money on animal products. It may seem strange after growing up in a household with cats and dogs and birds and hamsters and snakes as pets. I was one of those people who grew up in a place where it wasn't even a consideration that cows, chickens, bees, pigs -and every other living thing- are equal to us. I was raised Baptist Christian. "Turn the other cheek" "Do unto others as you'd have done unto you" none of that mattered when it came to the dinner plate. Thanks for the internet. The wealth of knowledge has been a wonderful help.
@@rc9638 completely agree that we all have our own switch. Mine was when a colleague said its just a choice you make every meal. It made it a lot easier to stop eating meat because instead of saying 'I can never eat meat again.' It was 'I'm so lucky that I can choose because think of all the people that don't have homes that can't choose to be picky about what they eat.'
In regards to Ethics, there's also another step to it as well! Most humans believe that Humans have a non-trivial moral status due to a specific trait. (P1) _(Basically, most humans think the unjustified killing of other humans is wrong.)_ If this trait is what gives humans a non-trivial moral status, then *all* beings with this trait should _also_ have a non-trivial moral status. (P2) _(Basically, if the trait is "sentience", then the unjustified killing of all sentient beings is wrong.)_ What trait is absent in non-human animals, which, if absent in a human, would cause the human to not have non-trivial moral status? _(Example: You could say intelligence. What would this mean? Basically, if a human has the same intelligence of an animal, that it wouldn't be morally wrong to kill them. Obviously, most people would say killing mentally handicapped people is wrong.)_ There is no trait that separates us. (P3) Therefore; Sentient non-human animals have non-trivial moral status. (C) _(This would mean going vegan)._ If anybody wants to try naming a trait, please feel free to reply! [edit: changed formatting to make it easier to read]
I'd say that humans have free will so can consciously choose to make a decision about whatever, whether its a good or bad decision but animals are more instinctive and act on both preprogrammed behaviour and learned behaviour from other animals or the enviromment
You are not talking in circles. You are comprehensively speaking from a true balance of realistic, compassionate and intelligent practicality. I can’t thank you enough❣️❣️❣️
You always hit the mark you are so wise beyond your years. I went vegan literally over night wanted to do it for years meat just wasn’t working for me anymore and I have not looked back. I don’t try to convince others I think it is an individual thing but so sorry they don’t know how great it is I love it. Thank you for all the great and honest content will visit your restaurant this summer. Yvonne
I highly highly highly recommend reading “Beyond Carnism” by Melanie Joy! Such an eye opener and perfectly describes the first point you talk about regarding our moral beliefs as humans and the contradiction that is harming animals
I went whole food plant based overnight just over a year ago however the reason it worked was because I had done months of reading and research. I bought cook books and made lists of recipes and menu plans, calculated nutritional requirements and figured out what could work for me. I can't imagine how hard or even just frustrating it could have been otherwise.
I am a late convert to the vegan lifestyle (I'm 57) and truly admire young adults like youself who produce vids to 'spread the word'. It helps others to see why veganism is the only way to go for anyone who wants to be 'mindfull' and live responsibly towards the planet and the life on it. Thank you and keep it up!
Thank You for the great video! I live in Romania, and there are not so many vegans out here, so I get a lot of weird faces and rolled eyes when i say i am vegan, including my family. Luckily my transition time was not very difficult, altthough it took some effort and a lot of focus to learn and implement this new lifestyle. But it is fully worthed. I am so happy i made this change, for all the reasons: animal cruelty, environment and health.
I went vegan like 3 days ago and haven’t looked at the meat section in the supermarket since. I honestly love this diet and how it makes me feel and most importantly I feel like a beast in the gym non of my workouts have been weak they have been better than when I ate meat
Thank you Rose. I always felt that eating dead animals was the same as eating road kill. I had to sit at the table for hours, didn’t get to watch TV as a child because I refused to eat meat unless my dog came to save me. When I went to college, I never ate meat again. I think making children eat meat is abuse. I became a vegan a few years ago, thanks to you and other vegans on UA-cam. You rock. I am turning 60 next month.
Does that mean I’m going to hell for eating steak? I I mean, I have full respect for vegans (or anyone else who hasn’t done anything wrong) however, I draw the line when people interfere/shade others’ lives for doing their own thing. I’ve been told I would never know if I won’t like it until I try it, so I did for 2 months. I can safely say that I didn’t like it very much. As someone who has an extremely fast metabolism, I didn’t get NEARLY enough nutrients in my body, causing me malnourishment, iron deficiency/lack of energy, headaches, constipation, and stomach cramps. I went back to eating meat but like anything, I ate it in moderation. But, not that I am angry at you I’m just asking, does that make me a bad person?; I ask you.
I'm slowly transitioning into vegetarian which is like "diet vegan" haha. I mean its a start and when I eat eggs I get free range and I live in Ireland so we have good farms. I also drink milk alternative and dont eat cheese or yogurt bc its gross. :) I also dont eat ice cream. Ive been really enjoying meat free products such as: Linda mcartney range of sausages and burgers Quorn curry and sausage rolls are good Vegan kebab meat so good Good luck out there everyone!!
MiuNya - great to hear that. Just want to remind you of the fantastic vegan ice cream or yoghurt out there. If you get hit by cravings... Even the cheese gets better.
Eggs were the last animal food i gave up. Learning about male baby chicks being ground up alive, even in organic free range farms did it for me! Good luck to you !! Btw i thought i would miss eggs but really haven't missed them at all. (8 months vegan so far) I also learned that it's easy to bake without eggs. :)
MiuNya best wishes to you! It’s wonderful you’ve found some alternatives you love. Another alternative you can experiment with: -Ask a vegan group in your area where you can find Kala Namak aka ‘black salt’. It’s an Indian spice that makes things taste eggy. Vegans will crumble up medium firm tofu into a pan with a few pinches of black salt, and then you add w/e else you normally add (veggies, other spices, a vegan cheese) It’s yummy, I enjoy it in wraps with salsa too :)
I’m a vegan wanna-be, moving ever so slowly towards my ideal diet. You have been an inspiration since your early days of the flat in London. I came on right around then, been watching you ever since, just love your food. You are my vegan guru, whom I love, respect, and admire. Thank for everything!
Rose, your content is SO helpful to people because you’re real, you act like a regular person, and you show practical ways to implement a vegan lifestyle.
I'm working on becoming vegan. I really dont ever eat meat and I'm lactose intolerant so dairy is gone. I am just trying find the cheapest way. Being a college student is very difficult. But I've been bringing steamed vegetables and rice with me. Not a fan of tofu so beans are the only thing I can find protein in. Any ideas what else I can do?
There are different types of tofu and different ways of cooking it that can make it scrumptious! Tons of vegan recipe vids on how to make exciting and cheap vegan meals with and without tofu:) I've never cooked so much - which is healthier than eating out already
Vegan protein sources: Edamame beans (real Canadian Superstore has a frozen box of 12 bags that you just microwave fur 2-3 min) vital wheat gluten Lentils (can get canned or cheaper when dried) The red ones taste better! But mix it into a lasagna or chili and the other ones won’t be bad either! Nutritional yeast (used to make things cheesy) Hummus Look for Country Harvest bread. They are more filling and higher in protein! 5-6g per slice!
Jordan Smith I wrote this out cuz I’m trying to up my protein intake. Hopefully you find it useful too: 1 cup wheat gluten: 90.2g protein 😱 1 cup lentils: 17.9g protein 1/2 block of smoked paprika tofu: 17.3g protein 2 cups quinoa: 16.3g protein Packet of edamame beans: 12g protein 2 cups brussel sprouts cooked: 11.4g protein 1 cup dry oatmeal (reg or quick) 10.7g protein 2 cups Broccoli cooked fr fresh: 7.4g (3 is 11g) 2 cups broccoli chopped raw: 5.1g protein
Everything depends what is easily available and fairly popular where you are. It may be soba noodles, millet, sweet potatoes, polenta. Check some ethnic supermarkets around - Indians, Koreans, Italians... even to buy spices, so same food will be less boring. Someone mentioned lentils. Red one (hulled one) will cook as long as rice. Cook it together and you have kind off porridge/sticky rice use sometimes in Indian cuisine. Raw veg and separate pan fried mushrooms with soy sauce - you are done. Cook red lentils separate (with pan fried onion, garlic, chilly and tomatoes) to make daal served with plane rice and raw veg. Cut sweet potato into cubes (maybe half inch) and pan fry with little bit of oil, tossing if constantly; meanwhile prepare small pot with boiling water. Set sweet potatoes on the side when ready and pan fry some onion. Same time blanch frozen veg ( broccoli, green peas, sweet corn etc). When onion is soft add ginger and garlic and some canned pulses if you crave for proteins. After minute of two your veg from the pot. Mix it and few seconds later add sweet potatoes. Some sesame seeds and maybe few drops of seasoned soy sauce to finish it. My never-fail-always-go-for-it option is graam flour (cheakpeas). It's yellow and can be use as a binding agent, so perfectly replaces eggs. Mix with some other flour and plant milk to loose batter to make kind of crepes. Use it as crepes or cut into stripes - home made pasta for soup or "omelette" for fry rice with eggs. The same mix but thicker batter with big chunks of fruits (apples or bananas) mix into it; maybe some raisins too; pan fry. It'll be more fluffy if you mixed up some whipped aqua faba (cold! water from any cooked beans whipped using mixer!). Even more thicker batter pour (using spoon) onto boiling water and you have speatzle - central European "quick pasta". Mix graam flour with precooked polenta or maze meal and plant milk and you have "eggs" for Spanish tortilla which is just thick omelette with vegetables inside (cooked potatoes, green peas, onion, bell pepper etc). My I-don't-cook-today option is cous-cous. Little bit oil, chopped onion, chilly and garlic. After a minute finally chopped carrots, celery sticks, baby tomatoes cut by half, frozen sweetcorn, frozen green peas or whatever is in the fridge. Take out of fire when everything hot enough and ready to eat. Add one measure of cous-cous and one and half of boiling water. Mix and cover with lid. Come back after five minutes, you are done. (In cooking mode cous-cous is replaced with speazle, so no boiling water, no waiting time).
Jordan Smith Consider ordering in bulk online. I've found on Amazon some pretty great deals on organic dry beans: chick peas, lentils, split peas. Also, I just found webstaurant online. They have super low prices on bulk dry ingredients: legumes, oats, pasta . If you have a little storage space it might be worth the time to check online for bulk bargains.
The social aspect and dealing with ignorance is definitely the hardest thing about being vegan. Regarding hypocrisy, some people just don't care. And that's hard to argue with. But people who say they care about the environment, they're all about peace and love, etc. Those people I don't get.
You're awesome! Thank you for this honesty. My boyfriend and I are slowly transitioning together, going vegetarian was no problem at all. Just with convenience is very difficult we find. I want to be able to grab a coffee anywhere knowing theres soy milk in it, but those options just aren't there most of the time. When we first told our bestfriends they said "check your bank account before saving the planet, you dont need to go extreme, we're at the top of the food chain" etc. And that really is so frustrating I couldn't believe their lack of support. I know that's one thing an individual really has to get used to when they make the change.. so for now I wont talk about it with anyone unless I'm asked about it. It will get easier! And I'm not going back! 🌱🌍🐄
I love how you are so passionate about veganism but also you have empathy for non-vegans and the struggles they might face to change. Vegan for 2 months! I was lucky and privileged to have the time to do the research and not have problems in transitioning very quickly. Thank you Rose, I love your work. From Queensland, Australia!💕
Looove this. I am currently in a transition phase. Mainly plant based but not fully there. First 3 weeks my cholesterol dropped 40 points and it wasn’t even high to begin with. I agree with your outlook on the transition. I think it has made it easier and made me miss things less than I feel like I would have.
Ezra Klein has an episode on his podcast called The Green Pill. It's about veganism and carnism. I highly recommend it. It's an excellent episode and is what returned me to (mostly) veganism after being vegetarian for 24 years.
Preach! Social situations were and are the biggest speed bump for me. Even after 2.5 yrs eating vegan, I still get the occasional instigator type person who tries to get a reaction out of me by saying something or by sneaking animal ingredients into a meal and watching to see if I eat and not notice. Most people are really cool and don't mind my choice to eat vegan. It's just once or twice a year when I've finally relaxed and regained faith in humanity. LOL Let's always remember that quote from Galaxy Quest: "Never give up. Never surrender.". Every person is on their own timeline and we've got to remember what it was like before we went vegan. We may have been the one who thought it'd be cool to tease the outsider. Compassion, my friends, will help everyone experience smoother sailing.
can you start a discord, or chat group of sorts so we can support each other? i'm quite isolated and bullied by family as well as struggling with finding healthy vegan shelf life foods since i only go grocery shopping once a month :(
Good point there about not being tempted! I get that a lot. People asking me, why I live a restrictive diet? They say, you can't be happy if you deprive yourself. I'm like ugh ITS NOT A RESTRICTIVE DIET! Im not depriving myself, nor am I tempted. If anything, I'm grossed out by animal products.
My biggest annoyance is that it is always deemed to be a weight loss miracle ... before i went vegan I was very low carb and well I am sure not healthy when I went vegan I gained like 15-20 pounds. I have been able to get it under control but if you are not vegan and eat fairly "healthy" before going vegan you may not lose weight and likely may gain if you start eating more rice and pasta and potatoes... obvs ethics is the most important reason but it would be nice if there was more honesty with this part of veganism.
Thats with any diet where you eat more calories than you burn. I gained weight on low carb, high protein. The misconception is that being vegan automatically means you're healthy and losing weight.
About con #2 "constant reminder of animal products," I don't know if I'm being paranoid but before I was vegan I never saw any UA-cam advertisements about meat or dairy products but as soon as I became vegan I started seeing advertisements about meat and dairy products. I don't know if these companies are watching my search history thinking they can tempt me back into eating animal products but every time I see an advertisement about animal products I just turn my head and wait to push the skip button.
I followed a plant based diet for a few weeks when I started out for health reasons, then one day I went to a restaurant with my dad and I ordered a chicken salad. After eating it, I felt so sick (physically and mentally) and decided that veganism was for me because it became about the ethics. Vegan for nearly 4 years since then :)
Although I am vegan for over 6 years now and very familiar with all of those considerations, this video is perfect to send someone who is just getting into it to give them an honest idea what they are up for. I haven't seen this done nearly as good anywhere else yet. You did an incredible job here!
I just became vegan TWO DAYS ago! Going good so far and your channel was recommended to me by a member of a vegan FB group I just joined. I've been a carnivore and cheese monster for 42 years so it may be a challenge for me but I am determined to stick to it. What I notice so far is that I am actually putting way more effort into my my meals! Oh, and of course, I subscribed ;)
Thank you for another amazing video. I currently live in a very unfriendly vegan place, and listening to this just gives me more courage yo pursuit the right path. Lots of love.
I've been vegan for 1 week now. Still a beginner but I'm loving it. I'm finding it a bit hard to plan out my meals because in my country we dont have very many substitutes for some animal products eg vegan butter, cheese, tofu is so hard to find. (Let me not even start on tempeh) I'm so glad that I found this channel. The recipes are easy and affordable. I had one slip up but I picked myself up and kept going. Can't wait to see what the future holds!😊💕
For me veganism didn’t make any difference when it came to acne, weight or overall health. It’s other things that matter in my case, mainly sleep, reducing stress and exercising. It certainly does help when it comes to education about food and being aware what you buy and put in your body. I mean, I do eat vegan cookies that are junk, but it’a an informed choice :)
Honestly really agree with your viewa, I'm vegetarian and ever since switching I feel a lot more peaceful I guess? It's hard to descriibe but ya I could never go back I hate the thought of eating an animal. It's just sad that if yyou try to make these points to someone who eats meat you're usually accused of attacking them and they get really defensive, I'm sure some people would listen but it's so hard to geet the point across to people who have turned such a blind eye to animal cruelty
Saying this as a vegan: I think to say that most people love animals and don't agree with animal cruelty is a huge unwarranted assumption. Most people make a distinction in their minds between companion animals (pets) and farm animals. Most people have absolutely no qualms about harming farm animals because they don't love them or respect them or care for them other than as a source of food. When I asked my sister how she could love her dog so much but still eat cows and pigs and chickens, she didn't see any inconsistency there. She went on and on about how dogs are company animals to humans, "man's best friend" or whatever. She doesn't "love animals", she only loves her dog (because the dog provides emotional support to her and is an extension of her ego). There is callous indifference to the suffering of animals in her way of thinking, but there is no hypocrisy.
@keto cycler I come from a family of hunters who kill for pleasure. Saying that hunters seek to minimize pain to animals is absurd. To minimize pain to animals, you leave them alone. Some hunters may be nature conservationists in the sense that they want to conserve their playground. Vegans do much more for the environment than hunters do, because vegans understand the impact of animal agriculture on the planet, how unsustainable it is.
I don’t think I will ever be able to fully cut out meat or dairy products, but I have worked really hard to cut down on the amount I eat because I see the validity of veganism. I think if a lot of other people had the same mindset of just cutting down we could make a huge difference.
It was pretty easy for me to switch to a plant based diet. I don't like most meat except chicken (occasionally pork) and I hate milk and cheese and eggs. I'm glad of my switch.
100% Rose, always right on! Vegan lifestyle completely changed my skin for the better. With all the meat subs out there, there's really no excuse at this point. The biggest argument I see around me is convenience, but they don't realize how much that "convenience" is rooted in privelage not necessity. The biggest challenge I notice is that people really don't want to cook for themselves.
Yeah the social effects me because I’m pretty young still compared to people who go vegan and not one single person that I know, and I know a lot of people and they arnt but at school it’s hard I tell nobody but when people say omg vegans can go die or vegans are eating plants which are living things should just eat air, which I’ve stood by friends that say these things. I just leave it alone and I act like I eat meat and dairy but when they ask I say I don’t and their like but your so cool and your not weird and it kinda changes their mind, but yeah I could rant socially it’s hard but personally it’s not.
I'm surprised there aren't more comments calling her out for saying that you shouldn't kill animals if you love them. I know a few holistic ranchers who love and care for their animals but the nature of their business is killing and eating them. I'm vegan for primarily environmental reasons and I don't think eating meat is inherently wrong, so maybe the ethical argument is being lost on me, but if the environmental impact is minimal and the animals are living happy lives, that's fine imo. Would love to hear others' thoughts on holistic and humane animal agriculture.
Oh my gosh! That avatar is stinking cute and I'm a coffee mug collector. Congrats Rose, you're about to be the first UA-camr I buy merch from, lol! 🤣 Looks like it's no longer available? 😭
Rose... I wish I could reach out and hug the screen at times - I've told you before how instrumental you've been - I was an omni by birth my whole life until last year - You were a channel I subscribed to as I was doing my early research in February '18 - One day the lightbulb literally just went off one morning after months of research - that was July 16, 2018 - I made the choice to go vegetarian for a full month to give it a fair chance - it came so easy to me as my "why" is bigger than anything. I've lost friends who claim I'm no longer the same person I was simply because of the more conscious choices I make - even family members have questioned me. I just don't get why people feel they need to interrogate someone's motives if they're doing nothing to hurt anyone. I feel people are afraid of seeing change in people they are close to exactly as you put it - bc they themselves are unsure and conflicted within. To each their own... I have many days I eat strictly vegan & I know logically speaking, me continuing on my path will have me going completely plant-based very soon as I eat vegan about 3 times a week now. It's all in what makes sense to the individual & having someone who "gets it" as a guide truly helps us all. You are an invaluable source of inspiration & positivity. I can't thank you enough! xo

@@jaceyjacobs4013 Well said 💗
I get what your saying, it’s difficult to understand sometimes, I turned vegan last September, unfortunately I lost a lot of weight and I’m already skinny, I’ll probably try again when I’m living in my own place because I think you know that if you crave a food like broccoli for example, then your body is telling you, you need those nutrients and i don’t want to disrespect the person making the food by saying I wanted something else, you know? However, I am still vegetarian and i remember how it shocked me how all the adverts didn’t have actual animals in them when I turned veggie! They had families eating fish fingers and chicken nuggets and it hit me how brainwashed I’d been for so long 🤯 it’s so normal in our culture, I know it’s not supposed to be but it is
The difference is that a dog is a mans best friend and a pig is a sandwich's best friend

😳 xx
@@fabfourfever674
Almost all vegans were culturally conditioned in a similar way....you and I are no exception, of course.
My point about framing the issue as "love" is that:
1) love is a deeply emotional feeling that the vast majority of people reserve for special individuals in their lives
2) people who eat meat generally don't hate those animals they are eating; the flip side to disrespecting the life and autonomy of those animals is not "love" but rather "respect"
3) most people will never feel a deep emotional connection ("love") with all or even most animals so if we are to convey a message about the way we ought to treat animals, "loving them" is just not going to work for the vast majority of animals.....but respecting the life of an animal can work for most peoplke I'd argue since people don't need to feel a deep emotional connection to all animals in order to not disrespect their life/autonomy.
True
@marian roberto
*I don't disrespected animals I just eat them* - said the carnist
*I don't disrespected toddlers I just sodomize them* - said the pedophile

I went vegan overnight after watching earthlings. It was a very easy decision and it was a very easy transition for me. I had been struggling with depression before then and being vegan refuled my motivation and got me excited about cooking again. My family does poke fun at me and being around animals products does bother me but I will never go back to being a non vegan
It's a first day of being 'vegan'
I started because of the ethical problems i hope i could maintain as 'vegan' foreva😀
Wish me luck🤞🙏
All the best..... And thank you for your choice on behalf of all the animals......

Living as an vegetarian or vegan in S.Korea is rlly hard. Barely supports and prejudices are prevailed
I hope you're still going and that it's slowly getting easier for you! Wishing all the best 🌱🐣💛
Well done honey. Me too xx 😘
Went vegan overnight still vegan almost 3 years later and I'm pregnant with my vegan baby
Veganism should be a choice let your child CHOOSE their diet wtf

Great video. I love being vegan and having a vegan whole plants foods based diet and also apply the other aspects of veganism as is practical. Whole Plants Foods are the best for you. If I occasionally eat an animal based product by mistake it doesn't mean you are not vegan because we're not perfect and we don't live in a vegan world.
no. it does mean you arent vegan. stop trying to water it down.
Daniel Reynolds Nobody is "watering" anything down. 😒 We *don't* live in a vegan world, and sometimes accidents happen. The key word is *accident* . If you *knowingly* eat animal products, that's different.

🙄 It’s just dumb
But thank you so much for the tip 💗💗
It made it a lot easier to stop eating meat because instead of saying 'I can never eat meat again.' In regards to Ethics, there's also another step to it as well!
Most humans believe that Humans have a non-trivial moral status due to a specific trait. (P1)
_(Basically, most humans think the unjustified killing of other humans is wrong.)_
If this trait is what gives humans a non-trivial moral status, then *all* beings with this trait should _also_ have a non-trivial moral status. (P2)
_(Basically, if the trait is "sentience", then the unjustified killing of all sentient beings is wrong.)_
What trait is absent in non-human animals, which, if absent in a human, would cause the human to not have non-trivial moral status?
_(Example: You could say intelligence. What would this mean? Basically, if a human has the same intelligence of an animal, that it wouldn't be morally wrong to kill them. Obviously, most people would say killing mentally handicapped people is wrong.)_
There is no trait that separates us. (P3)
Therefore;
Sentient non-human animals have non-trivial moral status. (C)
_(This would mean going vegan)._
If anybody wants to try naming a trait, please feel free to reply!

I mean, I have full respect for vegans (or anyone else who hasn’t done anything wrong) however, I draw the line when people interfere/shade others’ lives for doing their own thing.
But, not that I am angry at you I’m just asking, does that make me a bad person?;
I ask you.
I love you ❤️ this is a excellent video. I’ve been a vegan for a year and half, I’ll never go back. ❤️❤️❤️😘💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
I love your first point about it not being a "benefit" to leave animals alone 🤦🏼
Yes! I love you so much, Rose
Ive been really enjoying meat free products such as:
Linda mcartney range of sausages and burgers
Quorn curry and sausage rolls are good
Vegan kebab meat so good
Good luck out there everyone!!
I think Emily from bitesize vegan has a speech on Ireland animal farming you might find of interest
Good job! Keep on going, you can do it! :D transitioning slowly to veganism is how I did it and it became really easy. Good luck! 💕🌱✌️
Another alternative you can experiment with:
-Ask a vegan group in your area where you can find Kala Namak aka ‘black salt’.
I love your hair :)
thank you ! :)
Yes, in my opinion, green Rose is the best version to date. But she can wear it all :)
Vegan protein sources:
Edamame beans (real Canadian Superstore has a frozen box of 12 bags that you just microwave fur 2-3 min)
vital wheat gluten
Lentils (can get canned or cheaper when dried) The red ones taste better! But mix it into a lasagna or chili and the other ones won’t be bad either!
Nutritional yeast (used to make things cheesy)
Hummus
Look for Country Harvest bread. They are more filling and higher in protein! 5-6g per slice!
Jordan Smith I wrote this out cuz I’m trying to up my protein intake. Hopefully you find it useful too:
1 cup wheat gluten: 90.2g protein 😱
1 cup lentils: 17.9g protein
1/2 block of smoked paprika tofu: 17.3g protein
2 cups quinoa: 16.3g protein
Packet of edamame beans: 12g protein
2 cups brussel sprouts cooked: 11.4g protein
1 cup dry oatmeal (reg or quick) 10.7g protein
2 cups Broccoli cooked fr fresh: 7.4g (3 is 11g)
2 cups broccoli chopped raw: 5.1g protein
Loved this video ❤️ just a simple sit down and talk is such a nice change
thank you!!! more to come :)
The social aspect and dealing with ignorance is definitely the hardest thing about being vegan.
Regarding hypocrisy, some people just don't care. And that's hard to argue with. But people who say they care about the environment, they're all about peace and love, etc. Those people I don't get.
I love all your videos. This one hit the nail on the head. Bravo!!
Been vegan for 9 years now. I have been dealing with candida infections in my gut for about two years now. It’s on and off. Not sure what to do.
Great vid, Rose. Love your enthusiasm.
I love how authentic you are!! Thank goodness Vegans like you exist!
As someone who's taking the first steps to transitioning this has been a fun watch. Thanks.
Thank you for being so honest, especially about the cons. So many vegans act like they don't exist. You are wonderful ❤
Awesome! Vegan for 2 years! Best lifestyle ever! 💜🥦
Okay there are literally so many parallels between this video and your thoughts as in my own most recent!
You have so much knowledge at such a young age!....so refreshing!❤️
Compassion, my friends, will help everyone experience smoother sailing.
can you start a discord, or chat group of sorts so we can support each other? i'm quite isolated and bullied by family as well as struggling with finding healthy vegan shelf life foods since i only go grocery shopping once a month :(
F
Hope it gets better.
Rose, loved the video! you're so wise beyond your years, keep up the good work!
You explained the situation so well and simply in your little monologue. Well done!
I love your approach, how you're not marketing is as a cure-all.
I love your videos! One of my favorite youtube channels😍
Amazing video! Great information.
Thank you Rose! 💚💚💚
Loved this episode of yours!!!!
Thank you Rose!!! Everything I think of everyday!!! ❤
Thank you for another amazing video. I currently live in a very unfriendly vegan place, and listening to this just gives me more courage yo pursuit the right path. Lots of love.
Thank you for this series on pros of whole foods plant based diet👍
Absolutely love this haircolor on you!
Honestly really agree with your viewa, I'm vegetarian and ever since switching I feel a lot more peaceful I guess? It's hard to descriibe but ya I could never go back I hate the thought of eating an animal. It's just sad that if yyou try to make these points to someone who eats meat you're usually accused of attacking them and they get really defensive, I'm sure some people would listen but it's so hard to geet the point across to people who have turned such a blind eye to animal cruelty
great video Rose loved this honest chat
Thank you for this. It really made me emotional for some reason. You are an amazing speaker, keep up the amazing work!
I ordered a noize jacket with your code! So excited for it to come!
What a great video! Thank.you!
Can I hire you as my defense attorney? :P
Oh my gosh! That avatar is stinking cute and I'm a coffee mug collector.
Congrats Rose, you're about to be the first UA-camr I buy merch from, lol! 🤣
Looks like it's no longer available? 😭
I can't thank you enough! xo
