Tanner was the most majestic of them all, but to me at least, Jackie is the most iconic. Probably because he appears at the beginning of “The Wizard of Oz.”
I had not seen the 2012 version. Only thing, having been the producer the 2008 logo restoration..they lost all the pink in his tongue. We spent alot of time ensuring that it looked healthy. Could be just this play back, I'm noticing the color is off on the '08 logo. And the 2009 "yellow" version, that is just some god awful color timing, have no idea who used that one, but I can assure you, that logo didn't show up on any of the trailers I produced!! Thanks for the montage!!
I definitely like Leo's original 1957 Roar the best. The 1982 one carrying on was way too scary for me to deal with and it reminds me way too much of Poltergeist. Especially that it was the very first ever movie to contain that really horrible roar.
Pretty fascinating history - loved the parody variants! (Wasn't there a stylized drawn lion - the one that used to be on the MGM Grand - at the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey?)
"Why the announcer says the name Leo in 25th Anniversary 1949 version?" Jackie, Tanner, and the others are all playing a character called "Leo the Lion."
@Fearlessjazp Tv International Ltd and though I am 6 years late Leo is the name of the Lion logo not just the name of the current Lion (dispite the fact the fact that Jackie isn’t Leo)
2:51 "This ladies and gentlemen is Leo, the Lion. Proud trademark of Metro Goldwyn Mayer. This year, 1949, marks his silver anniversary." WHAT!?! Leo the lion wasn't MGM's mascot until 1957. The lion pictured is obviously Jackie (Leo has a smaller mane because he was very young when filmed)
8 years late but “Leo The Lion” is name of the lion logo (even though only the current Lion is the only one to be actually called Leo) not just the name of the current Lion

It think the best logo was the 2008 one, the restoration was amazing! The 2009 logo looks washed out with a tint of yellow. The 2012 one kind of loses the classic MGM feel.
MGM takes me back to things such as Tom and Jerry, James Bond, Red Dawn, and many more.
Fun fact, starting from 1982 (5:23) onwards, they began to use the roar of a tiger because lion roars aren’t that powerful
Wow! MGM has made a mad cool milestone!
The best intro for a movie and cartoons. MGM is a history classic!
6:34 that’s my favorite part of this new logo from MGM.
The first few lions were seriously calm. I surely thought that Tanner was the scariest looking one!

Coffee gets my vote for being the scariest MGM lion.
4:10 This was used in Jailhouse Rock! I'm such a huge fan of the person who starred in that movie.
What movie has the fanfare at 4:09?
Tanner was the most majestic of them all, but to me at least, Jackie is the most iconic. Probably because he appears at the beginning of “The Wizard of Oz.”
This masterpiece always live for archival purposes, I think. Keep up the great work!
i like leo the best roar in 1957-1981 and his new roar is 1982-2007 and leo's newest roar in 2008-2011 the new movies came from 2012 and i love it! :D
Coffee's roar is surprisingling strong
Tanner is looking fierce and giving that aditude
That's why they nickname him angry lion
this is nice!!!

Warner Home Video did the right thing: joining MGM Studios and releasing every movie so far
Beautiful tribute.
Who's here in 2023?
This damn lion scared the hell out of me when I was little hahaha
Leo is like what just happend when the pink pather showed him
The MGM logo with the turquoise background is from North by Northwest. The music is from the incomparable Bernard Herrmann.
I always like looking at logo histories. My favorites are Paramount, MGM, Universal, and Nickelodeon.
3:50 This music sounds really nice and powerful.
What was the movie? 🍿
IDK
I know it was a movie The Catered Affair 🌠
It’s unusual to let it be something older with color but something younger without color. I suppose RobloxMaster642 should agree with me.
Man I didn’t really make sense 10 months ago did I?
the 1957-1960 is my favorite-the lion(leo)roars 3 times!!!!!
5:48 Pink Panther- 2006
6:17 More Yellow 85 years - 2009 (Pink Panther 2 2009 Modified)
Quality Intro.
if the 100 years anniversary isn't going to be anything epic i'll be deeply disappointed
It’s going to be on the leap year of 2024
I like the 2012 logo where it zooms out from the eye.
I miss all the lions showed in 1928 and a bit later.
Thank you.
So nostalgic

I think the best one was the 1995 one (in the video, it is called the 1996 one). It really added lots of bass to the roar, making it feel epic.
I am very late but Leo’s original roar is actually an archive recording from Tanner
5:32 that part is the loudest roar I heard.
5:32
My favorites MGM intro is 1949. Its the only intro that Leo the Lion Has Been a trademark to MGM
And 1 more thing there is the narrator
Pretty fascinating history - loved the parody variants! (Wasn't there a stylized drawn lion - the one that used to be on the MGM Grand - at the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey?)
Yes. It was only used for three films, and then for MGM Records. It is called the MGM Stylized Lion.

Yes, it does!!
Happy 100th anniversary MGM.
so cool!!!!!!!!!!
This will be part of the MGM logos
Cool
I love the wall of skeleton heads
Before Jackie, I'm like, "Come on! Roar already!"
He couldn't roar because it was the silent age. There was no roar until the late 20's.
"Why the announcer says the name Leo in 25th Anniversary 1949 version?"
Jackie, Tanner, and the others are all playing a character called "Leo the Lion."
+Fearlessjazp Tv International Ltd (Shah Of Hess Trucks) coffee is my fave lion💗
Wow I really like MGM but I really I play sonic a lot
@Fearlessjazp Tv International Ltd and though I am 6 years late Leo is the name of the Lion logo not just the name of the current Lion (dispite the fact the fact that Jackie isn’t Leo)
@@No-hd4cg MGM line versus pink panther versus Alex the Lion
I always used to wonder what the face under the lion was supposed to be. The red one kind of reminds me of an eagle.
Don't forget the Chuck Jones "Tom and Jerry" opening!
Guys, in the year 2024, MGM will celebrate its 100th anniversary!
They just better not replace Leo as its Lion!
Yeah i agree
+Bjorn Rivera were not in 2024 yet -.-
no it is UNTIL 2024, MGM WILL celebrate its 100th ANNIVERSARY. Don't you get it!!
1924 2024 100 years of Metro Goldwyn Mayer

slats: what am i doing? should i roar or something?

you know the turquoise background 1959 which movie that the mgm logo come from because the music sounds great.
I love the pink panther one

Actor: Let me Check If This Logo Is Good...
BAM!
Leo: I Did Not Finish!
Cool the way they used different lions throughout the years but Leo was king.
Uh, it's almost MGM's 90th birthday!
1:34 Roar.😊
Telly scared the crap out of me
I love George! He is so cute!
RangoAnimations what about Tanner he was the longest used lion and appearing in "Tom and Jerry"
Dan 189 think agin
Hi Daffy!

Out of all of them, Slats is my favourite.

The Telly tiger is so scary, she will bite me!
Slats is so cute!
I love you too sunshine!
3:51 seen in the cattered affair!!!
Telly looks like an early version of Tanner.
I also remember a version of this on the movie, Strange Brew. The Mackenzie brothers were trying to get him to roar, but to no avail.
just the new roar
Tanner looks pissed
Tanner: I! AM! MEGATRON!

tanner looks like he's having a tantrum
sweet
Miles of carpet falling from an ocean into a flowers iris
i think mgm is epic
And you're Gonna hear Me Roar
Awesome video! But why does a video about MGM open and close with warner brothers footage?
1:20 I think I remember seeing that in an old movie.
1:20
If I took any MGM employee from 1916 and showed them the 2012 rendering, I'd think they'd shit their pants.
7 years late but MGM didn’t exist in 1916 (that was the year Goldwyn Pictures was founded) MGM wasn’t founded until 1924
Intro And Closing Style Merrie Melodies
2:30 Jackie in color 😀 and George looks so much like a toy 3:42
Jackie was the one used in The Wizard of Oz.
You forgot Diamond Jubilee. Which is 60 years,70 and 75 years.
1:16 in 1925 jackie is the first MGM roar with sound
No Jackie didn’t debut until 1928 most 1924-28 MGM movies that originally had Slats got plastered by Jackie
Tanner: "Shows his roar"
George and Leo: Can we copy your roar?
Tanner: Ok
Still Tanner: Just act diffrent, to not let the director realising that we cheated
In 1984 or 1986 Leo got his own roar.

MGM founded in 1924. Following the Merge of Metro Pictures,Goldwyn Pictures & Louis B. Mayer Productions.
How come they added new variants for 30 years of MGM in 1954? What was the difference?
What's 4:42 from?
Also, is it just me, or from 0:46 to 1:02 does he look like he's muttering nasty things about the director under his breath?
didn't you hear that in 2010, MGM went Bankrupt!
first one the lion was like i'm not gonna do this
It think the best logo was the 2008 one, the restoration was amazing! The 2009 logo looks washed out with a tint of yellow. The 2012 one kind of loses the classic MGM feel.
Sweet Lauren McAllister!
5:49 the pink panther good tho

id call the real leo from goldwyn picture trying not to roar so he can be like mimsie
Who else thinks the one at 6:29 is absolutely terrifying
