I was a huge rock guy in the 70's, listening to the Stones, LZ, and PF. But I loved Linda Ronstadt's voice and thought she was so beautiful.
Regrettably, I never saw her live, but I've enjoyed her singing for nearly 50 years.
She sang like an athlete, so focused on precision, so at ease while doing that. There was only one LInda.
Jeez, that voice is so sweet and powerful. Back when music didn't require autotune.
Linda could sing the phonebook and winwin a Grammy
Sandy Denny sang beautifully When Will I Be Loved in 1971
For anyone who doesn't know about the success that Linda had, check out her wikipedia page. It's a long read, but there's a reason for that, it's required to relay all the information necessary. You'll be absolutely amazed at what she accomplished during her career.
No long read necessary. Just listen to the many songs still on the net! She may not be singing in the 2020s, but her body of work transforms her into a much beloved living legend.
Dear Midnight Special: thank you so much for keeping “Willing” tacked on to this performance-AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE!
Who is playing the Lead guitar on Willin ? I see Andrew Gold and Dan Dugmore duo played on "When will i be loved "
My first crush on a woman. I still love watching her. That voice gives me chills. Her band was a true Supergroup, with Andrew Gold as the multi-purpose guitarist, singer, arranger, genius, and Kenny Edwards. Dan Dugmore, etc, No wonder it sounds so great. The bands from this time, like the Eagles and Linda's band, would take a basic chord progression and arrange/layer so many counter melodies, and then harmonize 3 to 4 parts vocal harmonies - some of my favorite music.
Loved your comment. Are you a musician?
Lots of great singers. Only one Linda Ronstadt.
Man O man what a kick ass song, I loved it when it came out, but to finally see the double lead guitars was amazing, Linda sure had it together.
ua-cam.com/video/XvqUdLDlgfU/v-deo.htmlsi=XEUrVqWj6O1BNZwz To me that's the best live version
We still love you Linda :-).
This is so freaking awesome to finally have access to. Not just Linda... all of it.
Lots of great childhood memories.
Linda is Amazing talent one of the greatest voices of generations the ultimate crossover artist she could float between genres effortlessly The Real Deal ❤🎶
What a beautiful, strong, pretty voice. No one compares ro Linda Ronstadt.
What a BEAUTIFUL woman and a voice to match. Saw her in the mid to late 70s at UTA in Arlington TX. Excuse me for saying but I had wet dreams about her for the last 50 years.
This gal just sang better than everyone else. Natural robust power and a simply gorgeous warm tone. Comparisons are like a slur. Linda was a rare songbird. Love her still.
Linda was fabulous live! Her voice killed!
Of the many fascinating and spectacular things about this amazing gal, in some ways the thing that really knocks me out is HOW RELAXED she is.
Only while singing.
Linda was a fantastic talented singer.
It's too bad she can't get out anymore.
All the best to her!
Flawless with that raw edge. And an angelic voice
Linda could step on the stage today and blow away every female country artist currently singing! I miss her singing!
I’ve always loved the way she subtly changes the inflection on the second “it happens every time”.
Good god she was so damn cute! And talented? Nobody could even touch her!!❤
Slamming. Takes a sweet tune, from her pals the Everly Brothers, and creates a landmark Country Rockin' blast. Takes her dear friend, Lowell George' s, trucker song and turns it into a classic road tune for anyone who is itinerant. Linda...no sweat, no pretentious BS just a glorious set of pipes and the devoted boys in her band.
Weed, whites and wine! Thanks for the bonus Feat.
what are “whites” ?
Glorious pure unadorned pipes. Nothing else like Linda. She sang loops around her contemporaries, remains beloved in a dirty rotten business and had a vibe all her own.
Wow! Watching musicians and singers come out and play live like this. Just wonderful! Her band was always amazing too!
Chills.. I saw her live before most knew who she was. God touched her vocal cords when she was born. I wish he’d touch them again so she could sing.
me too. I got to see her live in April of 1972 with the backing band that replaced Glenn, Don, Randy and Bernie. The new band was Richard and Mike Bowden, Mickey McGee and Ed Black...all great musicians. Linda always managed to hire the best musicians to back her up. Good move because quality music is timeless.
@@robtempe saw her at Cleveland Public Hall winter 1970 as a warm up to the warm up to the warm up band… 😃her hair was coal black and shaped just like Marlo Thomas in “That Girl”…
@@paulbfields8284Your recall is phenomenal, but then again, so is Linda.
Incredible talent and a back-up band to match. Love hearing Gold and Edwards harmonizing with her. Great performance, thanks for the upload
Oh good Lord.
I always loved Linda's version of "Willin'".❤❤
Watched every Linda Ronstadt performance on "The Midnight Special" and then got to see her live in concert at the U. of Toledo's Centennial Hall in Aug. 1978, just a month before the release of her album, "Living In the USA." The split screen at 0:22 shows guitarist Andrew Gold (top) and bassist Kenny Edwards who, sadly, have both passed on.
She was blessed very serious pipes.Very!
Linda will always be loved, bless her. ❤😊
Those eyes. My goodness.
She has beautiful brown eyes 💗💜🤎❤💛💚🧡💙
She's so fine. Great singer too, Love ya Linda.
beautiful nightingale 😉😍
This is a freaking amazing performance on the Midnight. It don't get any better than this. Live music 🎶 🎵 amazing musicians. Our generation of music totally kicked ass. Our music 🎶 🎵 stands the test of time. It's still being played and listened 🎶 to.
Beautiful Ms. Linda Ronstadt with incredible power voice, a Legend of all times.❤🎉❤
Now and forever linda 🌹🫶
Kenny Edwards on the lower right was bass player when she was a member of the Stone Poneys way back in 1967.
A real vocalist 🍻
Linda kicked ass :)
Such a thrill to find clips of Linda Ronstadt that I've never seen before. Cheers
Oh man! The soundtrack of my high school days. Has it really been 50 years? Damn! Time flies when you're having fun. Cheers
She's got good voicce, and her songs sounds nice😊
SING IT LINDA SING IT GIRL!!!
A total angel 😇 💖
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹such a crush on her back in the day 😍😍🥰
My hubby too!!
Linda and Elvis are the best live! Thank you for posting Midnight Special.
Midnight Special was indeed very special. They had always had a great lineup of talented musicians.
Great performance!
AWESOME!!! Linda and her band live is as good or better than the recorded version. Sadly some of the band is no longer with us; Kenny Edwards, Andrew Gold but they certainly left their marks and are not forgotten. Wonder why Willin' wasn't mentioned in the title here? I always thought it should have been released as a single but drugs weren't politically correct around that time so airplay may have become a problem.
Review from Dowell De Los Reyes of I Heart(Love) Classic Rock:
There’s not on one occasion that famed singer Linda Ronstadt sung a cover song without it included amongst the best. Being the magnificent singer that she is, she managed to make renditions to different songs, all taking bits and pieces, and created a version all on her own. There’s no doubt about the magnificent prowess of this singing queen.
Among the many highlights of her career is this 1975 performance of hers inside the popular TV show The Midnight Special, which ran during the 70s and the early 80s. Ronstadt proved to everybody what she’s capable of, as she sang a version of Everly Brothers’ hit “When Will I Be Loved?” The song was also included inside the singer’s Heart Like A Wheel album and managed to score a spot at the Billboard Hot 100, placing on no. 2.
Inside the performance, we can hear the full voice of Ronstadt in harmony with her backing voice, Andrew Gold and Kenny Edwards. The trio’s vocal mellifluence was cleanly observed here, and we can take a ponder on Ronstadt’s greatness as a vocalist.
Andrew Gold’s backing vocals and guitar were always amazing! Really, really great harmonies here that are sadly missing from today’s music….
Do you know if the pedal steel player was Rusty Young? I always enjoy seeing which musicians are backing Linda.
Looks to be Dan Dugmore here. @@deirdre108
Think it was Dan Dugmore.
@@lnl3237 👍🏼
Linda was appropriately named. So glad she and her various bandmates were integral to my music experience. Thank you, Linda!
I've just watched Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie, and Ann Wilson of Heart and all of them sound fabulous on this show. I've got something to do for the next few days now to go through the rest.
What a songbird 🕊️ long before Autotune. Very slight variances give away it's live. So sad she was robbed of her voice. You ARE Loved Linda, cherished and remembered 🎶❤️
I know Linda never thought of herself as Sexy, but she was Smokin’.
I'm going to marry that woman ❤
Such a sweet angel with an amazing perfect voice. Every guy I know was in love with Linda.
From all I've gathered, Linda was a helluva good band mate too. Not a diva at all.
Awesome 👏
Nothing like the sound of a Les Paul guitar and a tube amp.
Classic ✌🏼
Andrew Gold - "Lonely Boy" on guitar.
Linda SLAYING two covers. She was wonderful! Wondering...who's playing pedal steel guitar?
Dan Dugmore is pedal steel player.
Dude looks a lot like Gram Parsons!
When, Linda? How about forever?
She was a beautiful woman. Didn’t need puffed up lips, nose rings, eye makeup or tattoos!
The Best version of her band , with Andrew Gold , Dan Dugmore, ( maybe Bob Warford ) on Guitar , switching on songs .
andrew gold!!!
Sound like the record. “Before there was Protools there were pros.” Rick Beato.
Those brown eyes….good lord lol
where are the rest of the stone poney's ?
Out to pasture? Nay, only joking.
Did lowel george write this song?
The latter song, yes. The former, no.
Not the easiest song to sing. Intro and outro ia acapella , the hamrony isnt easy at the outro.
Really good timing is essential and must be on pitch, otherwise everyone is thrown off and the performance is ruined
Only problem I ever had with her was her choice of that idiot boyfriend Jerry Moonbeam Brown
💯 percent. I wonder how she’s enjoying life in San Fran these days.
When she was with "Moonbeam" she said nasty things about Republicans. I blame it on his bad influence.
Many people make fun of her because she put on 75-100 pounds.
It’s kind of a cheap shot to make fun of her eating habits and sendanary habits of sitting on the coach.
She didn't put on that kind of weight. She had a thyroid problem. And is thinner now. It wasn't from eating too much.
a mawkish performance of a non-catchy tune
You just keep rockin' to Don't Bring Me Down by ELO hahahah
