Fun fact, Mike Portnoy actually said they wrote the song and structured it like as if you were having a panic attack through the song. He said they wanted the song to portray the feeling of going through the stages of having a panic attack, I say mission accomplished
This band means so much to me, they will always have a deep part of my heart. It makes me so happy whenever i see you guys checking them out. Dt is tied for my favorite band with Rush, Porcupine Tree and Freak Kitchen.
I saw this band on their first tour in a small venue. Holy cow what a show standing room only and we were arm to arm packed house!!! Definitely recommend seeing them live.
Ayo less goo!!!! Panic Attack was one of DTs biggest hits outside of Pull Me Under! No chart spots or anything, it wasn't even a single either, but it still became one of the bands best known songs, partly due to Rock Band 2 but also because of the hype of the band at this time! They were truly one of the most cherished Metal bands between 1999 and 2009! Octavarium was a masterful work that crafted a theme of Musical Keys with each song being in a different key and going up the keyboard, beginning and ending in the same key. Panic Attack is in C, the next track is in D, and that little spacey synth outro you heard is technically a Negative track, which is that blank space of like 1-2 seconds on most CDs that separates the songs. As far as I know, Dream Theater is one of the only bands to utilise those tracks by placing audio transitions between them, some about 15 seconds, others near a minute. The title track, Octavarium, is arguably the band's greatest song and one of the greatest Progressive Rock epics ever! It's 24 minutes exactly, which is why I haven't suggested it yet as a reaction, but it's one I will one day get to with my suggestions! Panic Attack, though, is a Proggy Speed Metal masterpiece with some intense drumming, a KILLER bass riff, and duelin solos between Guitar and Keyboards! Again, one of the band's most iconic songs! Glad you guys liked it!!!!
@@besideyouc.3279 Both are fantastic tracks but I do often see Octavarium on more Top 10 Prog Epics lists than Tuscany, plus I think it's just built more intricately than Tuscany.
John Petrucci (guitar) of Dream Theater admitted that it was easier for the band to write complicated, epic pieces of music like 'Panic attack' ... 'The glass prison' ... 'Breaking all illusions'... 'Metropolis Pt. 1'... because it enabled the members to 'let loose' (so to speak) and add pieces of music to a certain track during rehearsals. Writing a 4-to-6 minute song is apparently more challenging as Petrucci was quoted: "The challenge is to try to write and keep the style that we write in without straying from the thing that makes us unique. And to try to do that within a four- or five- or six-minute mark, it's hard to do." Still, Dream Theater have had some stellar concise songs - 'Wither' ... 'Another day' ... 'Caught in a web' ... 'Forsaken' ... 'The Looking glass'...
My favorite is always the longest song or maybe 2nd longest, but I always think the longest is the best on the album. The Six Degrees song is perfection at 42 minutes long.
DT is definitely at the forefront of progressive metal. I’ve seen DT 7 times and every time it’s a fantastic experience! This is probably their most famous song after Pull Me Under as it was on a Rock Band game. This is definitely one of their best songs. Another great DT song would be Scene Six: Home and If you’re looking for something Dream Theater adjacent I highly recommend Symphony X or Liquid Tension Experiment. Love the video guys! Stay Proggy out there!
Lucky man, they've only been near me once that I've been able to go to, it was the 20th anniversary Metrop pt2 tour in Detroit in 2019. It was awesome. Got a personal eye to eye contact head bang moment with Guitar Jesus. I can die now.
This CD is called Octivarium because each song is in a different key and goes up the full octave and the last song is the compilation of all the keys completing the cycle.
One just kicking back for the ride and the other performing in his own head. We are all guilty of this!!! ❤ A very panic inducing song, goal achieved haha. Love this band.
It's about time you got to this song! This was the first song I heard of DT, and I instantly fell in love and started my journey into their music. Octavarium was the song which truly cemented my love for them. If you haven't done this one I definitely recommend it. Just be warned it's 25 minutes long, but it's absolutely worth it.
Probably my favorite Dream Theater song. Definitely gives you a panic attack feel. The main riff is very similar to the riff in Driven by Rush, another very good song.
DT is great. I really like this progressive music. I'm grateful for Opeth, Devin Townsend, DT and other artists from this genre. Great reaction Gentlemen.
This was the song that introduced me to Dream Theater since it was included on Rock Band 2. It was just so different and I loved every second of it and resulted in them becoming my favorite band ever since. If you really want to see the best that Dream Theater has, you need to check out the title track from the album this song was on: Octavarium.
And one you're not giving his flowers to is Jordan Rudess/Pianist/Keyboardist. Alot of what you think is guitar or what you think is keyboardist may be guitar. They play off each other. And Jordan has multiple guitar sound effects he's created to play with John the Guitarist.
You guys should check out the band Tesseract. They are the epitome of modern Progressive Metal after Dream Theater. Plus, the singer is amazing. You would love Tesseract.
I seen them open for Megadeth was a really great show. Hope you guys decide to check out The Warning soon. Dust To Dust live at Teatro CDMX is a good starting song.
We need more Dream Thater from reactors, just not enough reactions, I'd suggest as a must-do "A Change of Seasons", "This Dying Soul" (Live in Tokyo version), "Shatered Fortress" you've never heard something like that before, even though you've heard a lot or metal, come on, be "the dudes".
Good day to u gents. Can we please see u react to Powershifter by the greatest metal band of them all Fear Factory. It would be most kind young gentlemen. Thankyou
Queensryche and Dream Theater used to tour together both have the Same style Progressive Geof Tate(queenryche) took them under their wing when they started,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Play Queensryche's Night Rider..................you know DT is like a very Heavy rock YES hee hee!
I hate panic attacks, but I love this song. Sorry you have to deal with them sir. I’m currently struggling with my meds and they are changing them. Hate it. Thanks for your love of music and your reactions! Love you guys! I mean, you know😂

And the extreme joy of learning Portnoy is back. It really wasn't the same after Black Clouds and Silver Linings.
Fun Fact: This Song Was On Rock Band 2 And It’s My Favorite Song To Ever Play On!
Its also found on the PSP rock band game as well

Great choice 👌
Love the explanation! Love the pick! Love the Theater of Dreams! What are your top five favorite songs from them?
"Proggy Speed Metal masterpiece"...I couldn't agree more. Great choice. ☮🤘
"Octavarium" their best? Mmm wouldn't agree, I'd say "The Count of Tuscany" is their best by a margin.

Mike Portnoy is a monster on drums!
“The Root of All Evil” is my favourite song from this Dream Theater album
My favorite is always the longest song or maybe 2nd longest, but I always think the longest is the best on the album. The Six Degrees song is perfection at 42 minutes long.
Remember this from Rock Band, then experiencing it live at Sonisphere. Incredible musicianship 🤘🤘

saying this is one of dream theater's best songs is including it in a group of about 50 songs. haha. they have a ton of bangers!

The song that opened the door for me into the DT world.. fckin love this song. Since MP is back I hope they add this back to the live setlist.
You gotta hear "As I Am"
My first listen, too. This is hard. The drummer is mad.❤ Just realised this is Mike Portnoy. I know him from Drumeo channel.
Portnoy is back with DT after doing boring stuff with A7X.
@@JanTJaeckx imo i loved the a7x stuff but im super glad hes back in DT
@@JanTJaeckxHe did that one Avenged album like 15 years ago and parted ways. He’s been active in other bands since then.

They are always SO SHARP!!! Brillant band
If yall ever venture back into their Images & Words, may I suggest "Another Day" as a pallet cleanser 😊
I love that song 💓
Gees, that guitar work was insane ! I'll take another shot of that thanks lol.
One just kicking back for the ride and the other performing in his own head. We are all guilty of this!!! ❤
A very panic inducing song, goal achieved haha. Love this band.
I need to listen to more DT. This is my favorite song I’ve heard from them, but it’s from a pretty short list lol
Don’t panic! It’s just God tier music you are hearing!.
Shame the vocals let it down
I quite nearly had a panic attack listening to this for the first time 😭

Seen them twice, Daniel Tompkins is a Monster Vocalist!!
Go watch there solos from Live In Luna Park. The drummer is different then. The original drummer that you know just rejoined group few months back.
Morning fellas! That was a Kool trip! I use headphones too,it sounds really good that way! Yup not sure how to move to it myself...lmao!🤓💯😂

Best progressive metal band period into them since 1989
Oh damn! They were very unknown at that time! Did you catch any early shows?
1992 orbit room Grand Rapids, small 1500 club during, images and birds. Was first time. But had when dream and day unite on c.d

Niiiiice!
Dream Tbeatre Wooo 1st time... Masters
also a reaction to - trick the fox "living room poetry" it's one of Ren's earlier works 🙏
Old man Portnoy would faint trying to ring this back.
that bit at the end was strange, wasn't some sort of hidden subliminal message was it LOL
This album had weird little transitions in between all the songs.
Edit: Some, not all.
Beautiful!

Such a dope song, glad y'all covered it! Small note to add - this version seems to be down a half step in the key of B, the OG is in C
Haha I'm cracking up! About y'all bang your heads to prog metal and mute the video and watch you Bob your heads.🤣🤣😂
The only song I know and like by Dream Theater is"Pull me under"
That's their signature song.
There's about 3 songs that could be considered their masterpieces...all of which are over 19 minutes long
Please do Unholy by Kiss
