  • Although his numbers weren't spectacular, Brock Purdy showed why he should be the San Francisco 49ers long-term starter with an extremely intelligent and composed outing against a rampant Dallas Cowboys defence.

Casual box-score watchers looking at Purdy's statline without context to the game really don't know the full story, because he played a good clean game under the circumstances. He had 0 run game in the first half (27 yards) and throughout the game he was under immense pressure. He was pressured on almost 50% of dropbacks, and that was the most for a 9ers QB since 2019. Purdy, however, made several plays with his legs to avoid pressure and not make the big turnovers that would put his team at a hole. You put any QB in the scenario Purdy was in with being under pressure on 50% of his snaps with no running game and they would struggle.
When Purdy was kept clean in the pocket, he delivered. Going 15/17 for 159 yards and 105 passer rating.

He has not made one single impressive throw where you know he's a special talent. We've seen that with trey in 3 games of work. Yet you'll all perpetually lie about his talent. Unless one gets the all 22 and end zone film, it's difficult to see what and how it really happens. It's not fan boyish or pie in the sky expectations like the national media loves to do. I think people are guilty of expecting too much for QBs especially in the playoffs. Montana and Young had, based on their stats a ho-hum game without taking into account they were playing a tough defense. Which in this case Purdy was playing an elite defense, all the respect to Dallas.

that crazy kittle catch did happen on an overthrown pass but in Purdy's position, it makes sense to aim to slightly overthrow it. He's throwing back into the middle of the field against 2, arguably three defenders who are in dangerous positions. In this improvised scenario, Purdy showed great risk assessment skills by removing the possibility of underthrowing into an interception. With some more experience and practice, he'll be more confident about throwing with more intention. Great coaching too against a dallas defense that literally had never looked that solid all year.
