    For upper elementary students we’re loving “The War that Saved My Life”. It’s a Newberry award winner, but I wasn’t familiar with it. I would classify it as historical fiction and it would be a great book to go along with studying about WWII. My 5th grader and I are reading it aloud together (alternating who reads each chapter) we’re having great discussions. Highly recommend. 👍

    We started Meeting With Jesus for our daily Bible curriculum. You just read a few sentences of the New Testament and then your student answeres one question about what they read. It is pretty quick. My girl loves drawing a picture along with her answer.
    Also for read-aloud for my 7-year-old we are doing the Dead Sea Squirrels series. It's super cute!!
    I wish I was into history like you but I leave that up to Daddy. It is way over my head!! He loves reading the Tuttle Twins to my 2nd grader!!
    Hope you have a great rest of the school year! Happy 2024!!

    I heard a podcast the other day with Pam Barnhill and her guest was talking about planning your homeschool based on the seasons. Not regarding seasonal themes, but recognizing that different times of year are more conducive to different types of homeschool things. Poetry tea time and Read Alouds are more of a cold months activity where you can snuggle up and listen to books and Nature Study and science activities might be good in Spring and Summer with all of the seasonal changes. I just thought that was a really good way to think about it when I get discouraged about Read Alouds and think that I have fallen off the wagon. Really its just not the right season.

    Great homeschool goals! I’m having a hard time getting back into the homeschool mindset after the holidays but your video motivates me. Just subscribed. I also have a channel and would love to be friends and connect. So looking forward to watching more of your videos. I’m sure I have watched several of yours already in the past when deciding about Evan moor. 😊

      I’m so sad TGATB discontinued their book printing. They were so good! We loved Lions in the Barn and Over the Hill to Nugget!

    I use horizons math and BJU and really appreciate the spiral approach they take. I love that if we are struggling on a concept-no worries the continued practice is coming! I like My Father's World read aloud lists even just going onto their website and seeing what they read per grade, my kids love their choices. (I am currently teaching in a private school and use their lists and my students LOVE the choices too). I also use the language lessons for today from my fathers world for their poetry and copywork choices. I really love their approach to learning blended with BJU. Although...I don't know if I loved teaching the concepts of poetry in 2nd grade. I think I would teach it differently next time around. I think I overwhelmed them with BJU's process.

      These are fantastic choices. I haven’t heard or thought to look into the read aloud lists from MFW. I’ll be doing that FOR SURE! thanks for the suggestion!

      Most memorable read alouds this past year for my 1st-3rd graders has been Stone Fox and The Courage of Sarah Noble.

    Do you think the Evan moor homeschool bundle would work for a complete curriculum? For first grade?

    • @FullPurposeAndHeart
      @FullPurposeAndHeart  9 місяців тому +1

      I had to think about this for a minute. The easy answer is yes. Evan Moor is so great at making curriculum and meeting general education standards. Personally however, I wouldn’t go with the whole kit as I think eventually the material would get more like a checklist of books to go through instead of fun educational units or read aloud or topics.
