Roman doesn’t get that Ram just opened more gates for more people to buy a truck like the RHO. The price went down by $20,000 and it keeps 95% of the performance. Let alone probably waaaay better mpg. And now that midsize trucks are $65,000, this RHO sounds even that much better. Roman is just hung up on the engine. That’s it. Price isn’t a factor for him. It is for most buyers.
Let’s be honest. The trx wasn’t a great off roader. It was coo because of the supercharged hemi. In-line twin turbo I’m sure is insanely fast and tunable but it’s not going to be that interesting especially when I’m sure the 1500 will get the same detuned motor.
@@slapdoctor707They have not released anything yet, nor has there been any tests, should get better mpg than the TRX, the engine in other Ram1500 trucks seems close to the 5.7 mpg, probably like the Ford Ecoboost, either Eco or Boost, depending on how you drive it.
Ford is laughing all the way to the bank. What people say they want and what they actually want are usually opposite. You never go backwards, it’s like if the next gen Corvette was cheaper but had turbo 6 instead of the V8. Why do you think Ford never got rid of the V8 in the Mustang when the Ecoboost would’ve probably performed better? Because it wouldn’t be a Mustang.
I am too agreeing with Andre. Roman talks about never going back, and why build a lesser powered vehicle. Why then does Ford still have their lesser powered Raptor, why not just have the Raptor-X? The RHO may not be the most powerful option, but it looks great, and by today’s pricing on vehicles is not outrageous (though I have serious issues with current pricing on vehicles).
@@EastexCruiser Ford didn’t introduce the supercharged V8 first then go back to a turbo 6. They could’ve; the Coyote was designed from the beginning to be supercharged. Ford intentionally left the valley clean to make it easier to drop in a supercharger. But they saved that to play later if there was a challenger to the King. Smart move. Ram knew the HEMI was being discontinued when they introduced the TRX. So they should’ve offered a N.A. V8 as the TRX and the supercharged model as the TRX Hellcat knowing the next gen wouldn’t have the V8. This way they could still use the TRX name on this truck and make it more desirable. This truck looks like an option package.
RHO is not actually cheaper the dealers will take advantage of this and mark them up to 90-100k all day. I get it we all want things to be cheaper but those days are gone (thanks boomers). Premium trucks like a Raptor, TRX. RHO, are going to be expensive that's just how things work. Have you seen the housing market??
Roman! What in the F are you talking about, they effectively made a more affordable TRX, the best thing they could've done, I don't see how this is not an awesome truck, specially because of the price.
But it’s not a TRX. I agree with Roman, why create the TRX brand then abandon it. They should’ve taken Fords tactic and build on the TRX brand. Ran went backwards by introducing the top model then replacing it with something less. Ford went up from Raptor to Raptor R.
Affordable? Dealers will mark it up to high 90s to low 100s. But at least the RHO is better than the TT Raptor, the ecoboost engine is a disaster it has been the same since Gen 2 and it is very underpowered for what it is.
They went with a different name because it's mind games. They made the RHO so when people ask about the TRX making more power and being a V8 they can say this is a different truck. It's just marketing BS.
@@modelerrrrrthey even said that RAM said that the TRX is coming back just wouldn’t say when and we know it’s gonna be more expensive and marked up. Bro these guys don’t listen tonunderstand
Roman beating the dead horse over and over and over Not everyone is eyeing the top of the market. Andres is right, this is for the Raptor cross-shopper who could be interested in an alternative, especially if it's cheaper and more powerful.
Roman is complaining it's not a TRX, yet also complaining why they changed the name from TRX. That's the whole point! It's not a new TRX. It's something new and affordable. Like the Rebel was not a Power Wagon.
100%, this has no right being called a TRX. This is not a TRX. This will likely cause the TRX to be one of those super limited run trucks only available for a few years and will make them highly saught after and increase the value of them in the future. Kinda like the Buick Grand National or similar things in the past. This RHO competes with the regular raptor, and will do it for cheaper.
This RHO is great. Never owned a TRX, so this is perfect for me. The only demographic that might not be impressed is the TRX owners. But who knows, you might like it. Just gotta test it with an open mind.
Exactly. If you are ACTUALLY in the market for a Raptor or TRX or RHO you and you aren't brand loyal then you have to consider what you are going to do with it and drive them to see which one you like best. Most squakers online are people that have never owned any of these trucks and never will even if they could afford them. They just love to look at contrived car channel numbers and think they know something about real world performance and livability. Roman likes to pretend they buy these vehicles to really test them out but cry's likes a baby if there's even a chance of trail damage because they are going to sell them later. Never do they actually use them like an enthusiast owner would. Instead, they are street queens that see occasional light duty off road trails.
@@Calislav96 the only real reason to buy a car these days, is if you are elderly and have problems stepping up into a vehicle. OR you are a high school student and need a "first car". Otherwise, they are pretty useless. Urbanites cry hard about cars versus public transit and will go transit every chance they get. Outside of those areas, trucks have far more utility.
I bought a Ranger Raptor but if this was available right now I would seriously consider the RHO it if it looked the same but mid-sized. Mid-size off-road trucks are the way to go, more versatile in the wilderness and city than a full-size.
@@DaTruthHealsI currently have a Gladiator Rubicon on 40’s and lots of other offroad, pretty cool mods. It’s an awesome vehicle. However, though the Gladiator has apparently the most spacious interior of all mid-sized trucks in its segment, honestly the interior space is less than my wife’s compact SUV. Mid-sized trucks definitely have some advantages over full-sized trucks (easier to park, fits well in parking garages, can fit in smaller trails, etc.), but if you have a family, I’m definitely not recommending them. That’s the reason I’m eyeing the RHO. With one baby and 2 tall middle schoolers, mid-sized trucks aren’t the way to go. Maybe if no one ever seats in the back would that be the exception.
I get that these 2 play “good cop, bad cop” on these short clips… but I’m 100% on Andre’s side for this truck. I’m on my 3rd F150 (‘19 Lariat loaded at $68k sticker). I make decent $$ but any super truck is beyond what I’m willing to pay for an asset that depreciates in value, I even cringe at base Raptor prices. So I REALLY appreciate what RAM is doing here with RHO, and I hope Ford does respond with bringing to market an “everyday man Raptor” for low $70k! Roman’s on his own island with his comments as usual!
How would they make the raptor less than what it is? Take stuff away from it and you no longer have a true raptor. That being said, The trucks you're talking about already exist. They are the f150 tremor and the ranger raptor.
I think for people that previously or currently own a TrX, this would be disappointing but for the people that could never afford a TRX and never got the opportunity to experience one, this truck will be perfect for them and well desired.
I don’t think people that currently own one, will be disappointed! I think they’d say- no more trucks like mine out there!(meaning a fully Trx I know it looks the same but you get it) but value increases on it because it’s no longer available for anyone.
Another podcast where Roman is wrong. Your opinion on super trucks means that the raptor is not a super truck. Just the raptor r. This truck is the raptor version. The raptor r is the trx version. Roman you can't talk on the performance of this truck until you drive one.
You’re wrong. When the same model comes out with a more powerful variant that now becomes the super truck. With your logic, what would you call the Raptor R? The Super Duper truck?
It’s the same truck but with way less power. The kerbweight of a TRX is 6710 lbs, the curb weight of this will be around 6500. Which means that it will lose even more badly to the Raptor than the TRX did in the one desert race between them. If you’re curious, it was a 2 mile desert track and the Raptor completed it 7 seconds faster. Not only that, it was the pre-facelift 37 package, which is the least ideal Raptor for desert driving. Ram stacked the specs sheet without bothering to focus on desert performance.
With Andre on this one 100%. I’ll never feel like I’m missing out on a TRX because l’ll never be able to afford one. The RHO feels like a true aspirational vehicle for someone like me, and more bang for your buck compared to a standard Raptor. Other than being premium fuel only, I like its addition to the lineup.
Anything this capable with this much horsepower at a lower price is always good, no matter what they call it, power for the people, it’s all the common man wants.
True, but Roman always wants what he doesn’t have. He even goes to far to always wonder what’s missing in the dash blanks etc. he feels slighted if the slots are not filled. The RaptorR doesn’t compete with the RHO. He is a spoiled human. I would buy a RHO in a heartbeat over the TRX. That TRX wasn’t as close to the RaptoR off-road as this truck is likely to go up against the F150 Raptor. Maybe Roman is playing the devils advocate. If he is, he is doing well because he is being far from objective! The RHO does 0-60 in 4.6 seconds vs the TRX in 4.5 seconds. 😮 that’s awesome! It’s going to be 75% of the cost! Thinking like Roman is why trucks etc are climbing so much more in price!! I want, I want, I want!!! 😂😂 it’s rather immature, materialistic, entitled. I really hope he is playing devils advocate. Andrey very much understands this truck!! With its price it’s filling the niche Chevy went into! My buddy’s Ford dealership can’t sell the V6 Raptor they have there. It’s over $120,000 CAD!!! (Canadian). This new RHO is going to be at or below $100,000 CAD! Thats significant! The price sensitivity of many commenting is because they have all this time to watch all the videos! They may not be the higher income representation of the population. I’m retired and have loads of time. I’m always busy, but have made time for a few UA-cam channels each day. I could afford any vehicle basically, but I don’t have a Raptor anymore. In fact, I have moved to driving classic trucks instead! I am happier to put my money in the hands of an individual than the hands of a corporation or dealership. A personal philosophy I guess for now. I have classics restomods that are worth more than any TRX or RaptorR, for now, the collector market is fickle. I just prefer driving them currently and also have my rebelling philosophy against high prices. Even though I have over 6 digit classics, I have yet to put 6 digits into a build. I have been making money on my turnover of my collection. I’m not a dealer yet in Taxation’s opinion, but they sure checked me out!! 😂😂.
Roman is missing the point on what we mean when asking for a more affordable truck. They want all the amenities and luxuries but for lower cost, not a base model truck with plastic interior.
@@slidewide1999 Yes. Because it hasn't been released. The RHO has, which is the same exact truck with a different power train. They threw in the white towel by ending the TRX and all V8 engines. You're now getting the REPLACEMENTS across the board for those RAM V8 variants including the TRX with the RHO
I think it's important to remember that most people could never afford the TRX, so it's less of a step down if you're stepping down from something you never had. I'm really curious to hear how it sounds.
That's the point. A vehicle that most can afford is not a halo vehicle. I see both sides of this. Reality is, RAM should've built this truck first and then the TRX.
I think still not that many people can afford the RHO either but basically this is really the Ram392 off road truck that we've been asking for a in between rebel and the TRX but he'll even the warlock is stupid price
@@ryansheard8092 the TRX was already branded. It was an aftermarket build, similar to Hennessey's. It was based on the Rebel and they tried to turn it into the old RAM Runner concept. Worked pretty damned well as hype grew among the enthusiasts enough to get RAM's attention and buy the rights to make it an official build.
What is Roman talking about! The TRX and Raptor R are 110000 trucks, this gets you 98 percent of the capabilities (based on Rams own performance numbers) for 70000-80000. Not aspirational? LOL, how many people do you think can ACTUALLY afford this? Time to come back to reality Roman, this is still very much an aspirational vehicle. I don’t know about you all but I would rather take that extra 30-40 grand and do something else with it; so I’m all over the RHO, it looks great. I can’t wait to see what Ford does to respond so I can choose one for the 26 model year.
I’m with Andre, this is aimed at a different segment than the TRX is. The step down argument doesn’t make sense, Ford came out with the Tremor which is supposed to be a step down from the regular Raptor.. This doesn’t appear to be a super truck. Like Andre said this engine is more than enough for most of us.
@@TimGrefer It is not a TRX, though, so to me it makes sense why they would call it something else. To me no different than Ford having variants of the F150: KingRanch, Tremor, Raptor. They used to have the Lightning and Harley Davidson models, too. Seems like Ram is making the RHO be their 1500 model between the Rebel and TRX.
@@danotto8970 I don't totally disagree. But when you release the same exact truck in every aspect with the exception of the smaller engine and then end production of the bigger engine... It's a direct replacement.... Coinciding with Rams decision to end all V8 production lol.
@@TimGrefer and I agree the end of the V8 engines is the worst part for me.. would rather see the TRX and RHO be options 🇺🇸 I am worried what the new TRX will have as an engine
@@TimGreferit’s said they also retuned the suspensions because going from the hellcat to HO hurricane took 180 Lbs off the front and better balanced the truck
This truck checks a lot of boxes for future truck buyers. I believe Ram still has the best interior and ride in the truck world. My brother is eyeing this truck as a replacement for his older Raptor. Lets see how well the truck is recieved once its on the street.
I think the RHO will probably handle jumping a lot better than the TRX. That aluminum TT I6 took a ton of weight off the nose. The saved weight actually increased the towing capacity of the truck as well. IMO Ram has had a nicer interior than its competitors since 2012. Chevy has come close throughout that time, including recently. Ford has lagged behind in interior quality for years. Of course you could never convince a biased Ford fanboy of reality but that's my take.
I think Ram made a fantastic play with the RHO. I know this because even I reached out to a dealer to price it out with my option picks. I've never ever been so close to so much truck before!!! They both discussed something very smart in this video about Toyota. Anyone about to buy a TRD Pro Toyota is looking at this truck and thinking...... .🤔 ....but I can fly through the air in the Ram RHO ... I'm stoked .... see you all at the dunes!!!
Affordable trucks are rare now. Even the RHO is expensive, but seems to be a good value for the price. The RHO will bring RAM fans back to buy RAM instead of the RAPTOR.
Not only will it do that very well, but some Ford fans will jump ship because the RHO is cheaper than the ecoboost powered Raptor. I'm am the worlds biggest Ford Fan boy. With that said, I really hope the RHO is super successful. This will force Ford to earn my money. Stiff competition in the market place means the customer wins. All we need now is Chevy and Toyota to introduce a truck that can go toe to tow with the ecoboost powered Raptor too. When they have to fight for our dollars, we get better stuff for less money.
This is probably the first time I completely disagree with Roman. Nowhere anywhere did anyone say this was the replacement for the TRX. It is a higher special model RAM. No different than any other brand adding package levels to a 1500 such as AT4x or ZR2, etc... I find it crazy that this vehicle is being harped on so much by Roman. I mean, in previous videos there is talk about how they wished manufacturers would release cheaper capable trucks. They did just that, and this is the response? Very strange and unusually biased today.
Roman was a huge fan of the TRX. Which is saying something, considering how much he LOVES Ford. If they kept the TRX option at the top of the segment I doubt the RHO would be so harshly received.
Once Roman said to add electrification to a Ram to make it more of a super truck, his opinion became invalid lol. That would take the RHO back to where the pricing of the TRX was.
How else would they get the power level back to where the TRX was with no Hemi in production? They discontinued it. Unless they really crank up those twin turbos, but getting 800hp out of a 3 liter is crazy. It can be done but you won't have an engine you can put a warranty on.
What Roman was basically saying was that Ram should just have built a new trx electrified it (make it a hybrid) with 800hp but maybe that’s exactly what Ram is doing and they just wanted to release the rho first
I think Roman is missing the point. The TRX is going away for the time being and this truck will have the looks of the TRX and sell more because of the price point. If you own a TRX this is not a replacement for you, but it’s targeted for buyers that want a more aggressive look and off road performance, but at a more obtainable price point.
@@Sloimer Like I said this truck is not for TRX previous owners. Ram hinted that they will have a new TRX down the line. A 2025 Ram rebel comes in at 74k with the smaller S.O. Hurricane engine , yet you can get the RHO for the same money with the bigger H.O. Engine and more advanced suspension. If consumers are looking at Chevys Bison or Fords Tremor or Raptor; the RHO makes more power and has better features for about the same money.
I am thrilled that Ram is producing this truck. It will force Ford to bump up the HP and TQ on the V6 Raptor. I was going to order a "24 Raptor but my tuned Gen 2 puts out more power and there isn't a tuning option out there yet for the '24 model year. We will wait and see. This is my daily so I don't want the R or TRX MPG. Nice job Ram!
Own a current raptor and just put my order in for the RHO. When you similarly option the trucks, they come out to the same price. Owned a TRX a while back and enjoyed it past having to fill up so frequently. The RHO solves that issue, can’t wait to see how it goes
This is for people who wanted a Tacoma TRD pro then realized it was 60 grand and now are saying why wouldn’t I get this truck for 60 grand because it has 200 more horsepower and it’s full size
When the TRX was being produced, I thought st that time that Ram should take the TRX chassis and suspension and add the option of a 392 as a more affordable option to the TRX and to directly compete with the standard Raptor. That is basically what they did here but with the I6 SST instead of the 392. I think it is a smart move on Rams part so long as they still release a higher HP option (and yes it should be a supercharged V8) to compete directly to the Raptor R. The absolutely worst thing they could do is an electrified TRX. That would be dead on arrival.
This is a perfect truck for the consumer at a better price than than the six figure mortgages. I think Ram is going to sell many as long as they can control the price. Finally a manufacture talking to the consumer in a tough market.
Yes but they also made more HP when then they went to a V6 and had better suspension. Only downside was the V6. Trx comes out ford says ok I'm your huckleberry and drops the raptor R. When I look back at the situation ford was playing chess not checkers.
WOW. The fact that the guy in the blue shirt thinks a hybrid is what truck guys want just shows how off his base he is. Truck guys want V8, or twin turbo. I'd take an I6 bi-turbo over an hybrid option.
I'm sure the light nose of the RHO will improve jumping characteristics as well. That being said, if you're constantly hitting boost I doubt the fuel economy will be great.
If it gets close to 15mpg, it would be huge. Avg TRX gets 8-10 mpg on a 33 gallon tank. If it gets 15+ mpg, range would be closer to the raptors 500 mile range
@@bikebandit9827 The High Output Tungsten 1500 has the same engine as the RHO. It was getting around 15mpg average when being pushed hard by journalists. I'm sure if you're crawling along a trail the fuel economy will go way up though.
You can argue they put these out in the wrong order...but you cant miss what you could never have. A raptor competitor for 9k less...that will be enticing for a lot of people who can afford that level of truck. Glad to see it! The trx was exciting when it first came out...then seeing the price totally ruined the idea of the truck. Hell, even at the RHO price point its still too high for me, but there's a market for everything. These should sell well I'd think. Sorry Roman, some valid points but missed the mark pretty far on this one. And if this lowers the Raptor price...then awesome! Mission accomplished lol.
Not to mention the RHO has a much nicer interior. I prefer the look of the Ram as well. The all aluminum TT I6 took a ton of weight off the nose, which will improve jumping characteristics. The fact it makes nearly 100hp more than the base Raptor speaks for itself. Imagine turning up the boost on this thing. Direct Connection already sells a 1,000hp Hurricane option. I wouldn't doubt that your RHO could touch 700hp with a tune.
RHO = Rebel High Output. Also, anyone who says it needs a V8 with 700+ hp is childish. I would take this over the V8 because it’s cheaper, lighter and gets better fuel economy.
I just bought the new Raptor because it is an iconic brand and realistically has plenty of power and sounds great in Baja mode. To me no pickup is actually very fast so why battle over what is the fastest performance truck when they are actually mediocre in actual speed. It’s kind of like racing turtles not many really care much which is a little faster. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize Ram is all about making a million different marketing packages and most likely the new TRX will be an electrified version of the six cylinder to max out the Six’s performance. Fortunately Ram has marketing teams that do research about what to release and when rather than taking the opinions of online video content. Ram knows they have to be cheaper because if close in price the Raptor is a no brainer because of the legacy and strong resale value. I own several Performance Teslas if I want actual raw power.
The TRX ran a best of 12.3 and with mods they can be daily driven running mid 9s. The RHO will run a 13.1 which certainly isn't slow for a pickup. It already makes nearly 100hp more than a base model Raptor. Imagine how quick it will be with the boost turned up. I also want to add that the TRX has an excellent resale value and legacy that is only improving now that its supposedly discontinued.
I agree with Andre on this. It’s more affordable with almost the exact capability except the supercharged engine which the new engine will be more than enough for most. Now if you guys remember when you went to get the TRX when it first launched it too started at around 70k . I think you guys had a couple of options and paid 72k . Things are more expensive now but at that price I believe this vehicle will be a home run .
@TFLnow Roman only feels the way he does because he's one of the very few who had an opportunity to own a TRX. The RHO gives the rest of us an option we might actually afford. Your 77k TRX was a bargain and they are all over 100k now. This makes all sorts of sense. And if it was a hybrid, I'd never consider it.
@@TFLnow Our only hope for Dodge is to either wait years for them to earn favor with the EPA mafia and bring back the Hemi or elect a president that isn't going to pander to the climate change activists. Unfortunately, too many people are drinking the koolaid and the TRX we'll get won't fit its name.
As a current TRX owner, I say this is a really good option for everyone who does not want to spend the extra buck on a TRX and also save money every day on gas, trust TRX is by far the most gas guzzling car I ever owned. If MPGs are way better, I am even considering an RHO.
I don’t agree with Roman. New car/truck prices have just gotten out of control! Also, the TRX engine although a fantastic one, is just not an efficient one so downsizing is crucial for emission standards. Calling it RHO is questionable but it’s NOT a TRX so that’s perhaps the right move. Bringing the price down is also going in the right direction for average people looking for a capable off road truck that don’t care for a gas guzzler! There’s no doubt Ram will sell a ton more of these than the TRX even if it doesn’t have the Hellcat engine!
@@garysarratt1 no because he is supposed to be an expert on the auto industry as well as the consumer industry and is not taking any factors into account at all. @@Harps555 Of course he knows what he’s doing; he’s *arguing*! Agreement only pleases the Ram bros, argument engages the other makers’ fans. The same tactic applies to whatever make is being featured.
@@garysarratt1 I agree that Roman is playing devils advocate here by arguing. It allows them to elaborate on the truck and what makes it interesting. That being said, "Ram bros" are probably a lot more upset over the loss of the Hemi than a Chevy or Ford groupie.
I get Roman’s point, he’s a TRUCK JUNKY. So, for him this is a let down. Just being a TRUCK GUY, myself, I also see Andre’s point as well and being more affordable is definitely a major plus for me.
I have always been more interested in suspension performance than engine performance. So saving 50k and getting the same suspension is a fantastic deal. I’m not going to cry over only having 540hp.
I agree with Roman it’s taking a step back if Ram wanted to have this truck they should have been building this truck along side of the trx but taking the trx away and then coming out with this truck is kinda a slap in the face
Roman doesn't understand that very few people can afford the TRX or Raptor R, this RHO is a more affordable TRX type vehicle. It will probably sell in quantities many times more than the TRX. It's a nice truck.
Nobody needs 700hp. 540 is good power if it has a great suspension. Ram always made good looking trucks, I'm a buyer. $100,000 is just too much for a truck or any vehicle for that matter.
RAM put themselves in a bad spot by killing the ONE THING people loved ram for over the years, their screaming V8’s. This just gives an “Alibaba Raptor” feel. They set themselves so far ahead with the TRX. It was the V8 off roader we all wanted the Raptor to be (before the R), and this just feels like a letdown. This RHO just feels like they’re taking the soul out of a TRX and sorta settling for what they can get away with selling. It’s not extreme, it’s not over the top, it’s just sorta “meh” compared to what they portrayed themselves as all these years. That’s not the RAM we know and love, and that’s not the RAM people want.
15:12 wrong interpretation of data. The SR5 is too expensive for those shopping in that category, hence they aren’t selling. Sure, there are those who can afford the higher trims, but to confuse that customer with the average midsize truck price range shopper is wrong. Nissan Frontier is selling well and I don’t think that is a coincidence.
Him, along with everyone else, really loved the TRX. The EPA mafia forcing Dodge to discontinue the Hemi is a hard pill to swallow. I think everyone would praise this truck had Dodge kept the TRX at the top of the segment.
@@PyroBlonde7777Dodge ? 🤣🤣🤣 Have you been in a long term coma ? Last time I checked, Ram and Dodge were two seperate brands and manufacturer’s and have been since Oct 2009. Dodge has had ZERO to do with 4th / 5 th Gen RAM’s.
@AussieDazza are you really trying to insinuate that Ram is no longer a part of Stellantis? Do you not realize that Chrysler owns more of Stellantis than any other brand? Is GMC no longer a GM product simply because it isn't labeled a "Chevy"? Maybe you should actually look into the subject matter before you attempt to look intelligent.
From the beancounter's perspective, this is the best thing they could possible do with the TRX platform and hardware in the post-Hellcat era. Turning down the engine from "Ludicrous" to just "Pretty Damn Quick" does nothing to harm its off-road talents, and offers a good showcase for the high-output Hurricane Six. Obviously, it would be great if Stellantis could pull off some kind of higher-output I-6, a hybrid combination, or something else to rival the V8 Raptor, but Job #1 is to provide things for normal people to buy. That cupboard is pretty damn bare right now.
Roman. This is great. I’m the guy this truck is for. I own a construction company and can not make sense of getting a TRX to do what I do. I’m really considering the RHO. This makes sense for me. The bananas factor of the TRX turned me off on it. I’m a MOPAR guy, I own a 2017 Viper ACR, a 2022 Grand Wagoneer, a 2016 Ram. They just left room on the table for the next move.
I get the feeling that the majority of new buyers don't purchase a vehicle to own them anymore. With how advanced and complicated vehicles are it does become intimidating looking at potential long-term repairs and headaches for them. So getting a new vehicle every few years that's fully warrantied at has the latest and greatest is a much easier pill to swallow. To the eyes of the manufacturer, this justifies them increasing the prices because most people don't want to (and sometimes can't) own the vehicles outright from brand new
Can't wait for another video of the Ranger Raptor. Mine is in production, so who knows how long till I actually get it, so TFL Ranger Raptor videos is all that's giving me hope right now lol.
You guys still dont get it. Of course the base models arent selling. They are charging 20k more than 5 yrs ago. How many people make 20k more than they did five yrs ago? Plus food gas interest rates all double so we all.make less essentially. Yes the people w stupid money to blow will always buy expensive toys. They did even during they great depression. Doesnt mean they arent overcharging. THEY ARE!! Gnna learn one way or the other.
Even if I could afford a base Tacoma I would rather buy a used full size truck for the same price that has more features and a V8. I could never go to a V4. I don't care how many turbo's are on it. It is still a V4 and smaller than used full size truck.
I like this new RHO truck a lot. As was mentioned in the video, the cost is actually within reach (and not in super car territory). Also, regardless of price, the TRX or Rapture R are both not rated to tow as high, which eliminates the possibility for someone like me who wants to purchase a travel trailer that sleeps 8+ and a Cuddy Cabin boat to chase tuna's each summer, the RHO fits the bill! Good news is I can see paying off my Explorer ST in the next couple years and selling my old 2009 RAM 1500 4x4 with this truck!! :)
GM has been left behind by ford and dodge in the super truck level, zr2 is okay, just not a super truck. Sadly the 6.2 supercharged motor is available in the GM arsenal
Maybe, but they are outselling Ford and RAM in the truck segment. So as much as I'd like to see an offering, do they or should they really care about it? Debatable.
@@coachvonyo Welp, they are only outselling because GM is combing two brands. If both GMC and Chevrolet were separated then they won’t be close. Chevrolet sold around 550,000 while GMC sold around 300,000. Fords F-series sold around 750,000. Ram on the other hand only sold 444,000. All this was taken in 2023.
@@rau4329 correct. It's just a different strategy. GMC and Chevy profits all go to the same hand (GM). I doubt they care much that the Ford trucks outsell Chevy or GMC separately. In the end, GM wins. That's in part the beauty to their strategy.
What Roman said is absolutely the reason I came watched this video! I’m looking forward to get a new off roader next year and I was thinking about 4Runner/Land Cruiser or Tacoma but with the ridiculous pricing I was thinking about getting a GX or Ram RHO. I just don’t know if the new Ram is reliable for a long time and wish you had covered that as well!
Joining the "Andre's side" team. Not everybody has $100+k to blow on a truck. This is still at a higher, but for some more attainable cost than a TRX with many TRX features. Based on Roman, everybody should just buy a Demon 170 or Redeye and that is all Dodge should sell around the $100+k price tag. Who wants a plain old Hellcat for less money? And anyways, if you haven't been paying attention to the entire car/truck market not many things are moving because of those high price tags. I am sure they have a beefier model or are going to maintain the TRX with new powertrain ideas, but you are playing to a very niche rich crowd when you need butts in seats to make money. Ah, rich people problems I guess LOL.
Not a single person who is upset at Roman, owns a TRX. I do, and am a little pissed that they made a truck look EXACTLY like my $100k+ truck. It was a relatively exclusive truck (due to the price alone). I had a 22 Raptor, but it didn’t give me any great feelings that a $80+k vehicle should. Everybody has one now. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy they made a more affordable truck, but I just wish they distinguished it a little more from the TRX. I’m glad they changed the name, at least…
The base model Ford Raptor looks nearly identical to the Raptor R. If Dodge can bring back the TRX with a Hemi, then I would hope changing the styling slightly would suffice.
I was on the market for a base level Raptor. Since hearing about this i actually want ti wait ro see how it will do. Ive never owned a Dodge, but this really interest me, price, power and what it can do. Was planning on buying a 35 Raptor if i could catch a green one at the lot bit now im waiting. Thanks for the great video guys.
Ram just joined the game late. Had they started with this they wouldn’t have made a splash like they did with the TRX. Now they’re making a more practical and more affordable version.
My Problem with the RHO, It’s a cheap repackage of the TRX just the HEMI removed no effort whatsoever from Ram! The RHO has old suspension, Small markup lights, No 37 tire package, No active exhaust nothing! It would’ve made sense if it was released few years ago with TRX as cheaper option! But not a standalone 2025 model! Totally agree with Roman!
Roman what are you thinking! Finally a truck I would consider getting rid of ,my prized 2018 Tundra Platinum for within reach price wise as well. Looks awesome Ram!
Don't agree with Roman. What sells more, a Raptor or a Raptor R? The regular Raptor. So, a cheaper, more powerful Dodge is great. Who cares if it doesn't have a V8 rumble! And this is coming from someone who has had over a hundred muscle cars. Granted I had them when they were cheap and only 10-15 years old! And they will have a new TRX with more power in the future. But for now this truck is perfect, and more will be sold to the masses compared to a TRX for $100k. Also, you'll never have the fastest vehicle out there, so why try? It's constantly changing. 540 horsepower is just fine.
Looks like Ram took a step back to capture a void in their lineup above Rebel but below TRX. Seems smart, not many can afford $100K+ for a truck. They will give it a couple years for TRX guys to wear out their trucks, then reveal a hybrid TRX. Doesn't seem that complicated?
9 grand is a huge price difference. This thing will absolutely out sell the base raptor. I hope it forces ford to cut prices. To most people, 9 grand means a lot. He's lost touch.
Actually, cheaper and MORE powerful than the current Raptor. Before RAM could only beat the Raptor by switching to 8-cycliners. Now they're showing off by saying we can downgrade to our new 6 and still beat you...for less.
I think both sides are valid. Less power yes, but the initial numbers between the TRX/RHO seem similar. I have a 2019 RAM 1500 HEMI and love it. However, I would have loved to have a TRX but knew it was never attainable. With this price though!! Having a super truck is very attainable now! Also, remember this is competing against the regular Raptor, not Rapto R, so with that, I think we'll be seeing a lot more RHO'S on the road. Love the videos, keep em coming!
This discussion would have been much more interesting without Ronan constantly interrupting Andre, who had some very good points. Very irritating discussion, or is that a designed format, like ESPN's First Take?
I have a RAM rebel, this would definatley be a step up for me, but theres something about my V8 i dont want to give up. Should have made this truck a different trim level of the Rebel.
Just slap some headers on your 5.7 and you'll be sitting around 420hp with the addition of a thunderous exhaust note. With that 8 speed transmission there isn't much need for an upgrade.
This is a really great thing for the Raptor. Raptor needs the competition to keep Ford honest and innovative. I love the fact that they are going after the "Base" Raptor here, and lowering the price point of the "Entry Super Truck" market. It is not a "Raptor Killer" by any stretch, my 2017 will destroy this thing off road. Raptors will get nervous about the off road capability of this thing when Ram brings it to Baja. Ford has taken every version of the Raptor to the Baja 1000 and completed the race with respectable finishes and even a couple wins. When a factory Ram does that, then it can be called a "Raptor Killer', till then it is all 0 m- 60 and 1/4 mile times they can brag about.
I have 23 trx , love rho because it is updated outside and inside especially love hand free drive. Owned 3 raptors before and 540 h.p. is great.... Just order 1 with mark dodge in Louisiana
I like this option. Its very close in 0-60 time and the look is amazing and its within reach as far of affordability. As always Rams interior looks great too. I want time for the 3.0 Hurricane motor to be out there and see its durability and any issues it might have.
I have never owned anything but a V8 Truck, and this RHO is the first time I considered buying anything that wasn't a V8. I ordered one, and there is nothing wrong with opting for this truck over a TRX. Its like buying a 550M instead of buying an M5, its just a bit less powerful with all the same bells and whistles. Its a nice option if you drive more than one vehicle. I ordered an RHO and its a secondary vehicle for my outside my daily driver SUV. This truck is a great option for people who dont want to spend 100k
5:13 I don’t think they are targeting current TRX owners, so yeah, it doesn’t matter whether YOUR heart wants it. There are plenty who can’t afford the $115K+ of the TRX but will love driving around in basically the same truck with plenty of power and capability (and hopefully better fuel economy!) at a lower price point.
Good video. When I first saw it I truly did believe it was a TRX so I think they should have done a more to make it look different. Yes it starts off at 71,000 according to Rams website but that's just the starting price. When you ad all the options about how much will it be then? 😁
"Removed Hellcat Option" is an absolute gem. The fact that the base price is less than the Raptor (by a lot), less than the TRD Pro (and makes that look like a half-heated off-road package) and the same as the ZR2 (w/ the diesel) is really impressive. Stepping up to the plate with WAY more horsepower than any of those is just wild. If we weren't heading off an economic cliff, I'd say those will sell like hot waffles.
Also the RHO has one big advantage over the Raptor that Ford cant just fix right away . Straight 6 engine design . Straight 6 is inherently gonna be smoother and torquier as well as sound better than a V6. Yeah the ecoboost has been around longer and more proven but I think the hurricane will be just fine .
I wouldn’t have purchased a TRX but i will buy a RHO. Basically no loss in performance over the TRX, but it’s less expensive and much more practical as a daily driver. I think RAM created what the market wants. Roman’s arguments did nothing to dissuade me and only work against the non-R Raptor as well if you’re interested in a Raptor. Is that truck not desirable either then? Because on paper the RHO is a better value and better performance than the Raptor. If they re-release a TRX with a monster engine I’d still take the RHO.
Entitled boomer roman throwing a tantrum why he cant have the big best one

@@Calislav96I think he is playing the part of a hater rather than being an actual hater
Let’s be honest. The trx wasn’t a great off roader. It was coo because of the supercharged hemi.
In-line twin turbo I’m sure is insanely fast and tunable but it’s not going to be that interesting especially when I’m sure the 1500 will get the same detuned motor.
Maybe if people stopped watching the channel and unsubscribing would do the trick so he'd have less discretionary bread to spend on his excesses!
My opinion is that calling it a TRX would be confusing because it is not a TRX.
It's a trx that's been neuter 😂
Also am I the only one wondering if it even gets any better mpg or did they forget that
It's a TR-X.
@@slapdoctor707They have not released anything yet, nor has there been any tests, should get better mpg than the TRX, the engine in other Ram1500 trucks seems close to the 5.7 mpg, probably like the Ford Ecoboost, either Eco or Boost, depending on how you drive it.
You're right. But keep mind, TRX stood for Technology Research eXperimental. This isn't so experimental anymore
I'm on Andres side on this. Cheaper, more attainable is better for most people. Roman can afford whatever he wants. If you want a TRX, go buy one.
@@khakiswagso Ford didn’t ditch a 6.2 V8 in the Raptor for a twin turbo V6? Lol😂 🤦♂️
@@khakiswag maybe they plan to use the TRX nameplate in the future.

Roman is complaining it's not a TRX, yet also complaining why they changed the name from TRX. That's the whole point! It's not a new TRX. It's something new and affordable. Like the Rebel was not a Power Wagon.
Did you really just try to prove your point by saying a 1500 isn't a 2500, well no shit it isn't. Your point is stupid.

@@jesseobrien2641there's a rebel 2500 now...his point is valid lol
Yes, they dipping onto their truck ljne up for more sales cause cars arent doing it
@@Calislav96 the only real reason to buy a car these days, is if you are elderly and have problems stepping up into a vehicle. OR you are a high school student and need a "first car". Otherwise, they are pretty useless. Urbanites cry hard about cars versus public transit and will go transit every chance they get. Outside of those areas, trucks have far more utility.
The RHO is a steal. Especially when you compare to how expensive midsized trucks are.
Lmfao 70k is nothing but everyday man
My feeling on an “Everyman Raltor” is already here: Ranger Raptor. Just my feeling.
70k isn’t much bozo
How would they make the raptor less than what it is? Take stuff away from it and you no longer have a true raptor. That being said, The trucks you're talking about already exist. They are the f150 tremor and the ranger raptor.
I think for people that previously or currently own a TrX, this would be disappointing but for the people that could never afford a TRX and never got the opportunity to experience one, this truck will be perfect for them and well desired.
Yeah it won’t sound as good but 0-60 which is what most people use these trucks for day to day is only 0.1 sec slower
I don’t think people that currently own one, will be disappointed! I think they’d say- no more trucks like mine out there!(meaning a fully Trx I know it looks the same but you get it) but value increases on it because it’s no longer available for anyone.
Fact
Or you could think of it as a Rebel upgrade for only a slightly higher payment.
Another podcast where Roman is wrong. Your opinion on super trucks means that the raptor is not a super truck. Just the raptor r. This truck is the raptor version. The raptor r is the trx version. Roman you can't talk on the performance of this truck until you drive one.
Lol yes he can. It's literally the same truck just with a smaller engine and less power
Yeah, but average people can afford one. Not all people can afford a truck that their subscribers help them buy
@@The-fs5wn The Gen 3 Raptor is far superior to the TRX chassis/suspension wise. Not even close.
Roman is missing the whole point of this truck , it is not a Trx replacement and ram said as much , this fills a void they had perfectly
They ended the TRX and introduced this. Same truck, less power = replacement. No matter what RAMS marketing department says
Roman is missing the point on what we mean when asking for a more affordable truck. They want all the amenities and luxuries but for lower cost, not a base model truck with plastic interior.

It's the same truck as the TRX. Everything is the same except for the smaller engine and smaller power. Hence, step down

I just canceled my Tungsten and placed my RHO order. I didn't want the TRX with the hellcat engine.
ram Q1 2024 sales are down 26% y/y ... a $72k truck is just what they needed

Actually it's a good price for what it is, it's a direct competitor to the Raptor V6, what they need is their regular 1500 line to be cheaper.
Well said
This is probably the first time I completely disagree with Roman.
All of his opinions are off-base. It's beyond uncanny
I drive a strong, fast Tesla for a few days. Great drive. Didn’t want one. Do NOT “electrify” the RHO. That is NOT what truck buyers want.
I don’t even pay attention to Roman , in one ear out the other 😅
How else would they get the power level back to where the TRX was with no Hemi in production?
Most will think you've got a trx if you take the stickers off it !!
Until you hear it drive and you’ll know is the inline 6
It will not sell more because people were already accustomed to the TRX at this exact same price like 2 years ago.
@@300CME ok let Stellantis trick you. Good job lol
RHO won’t solve that issue, sorry… 16/17 combined driving it like grandpa. Drive it like you stole it 13/14.
This is for people who wanted a Tacoma TRD pro then realized it was 60 grand and now are saying why wouldn’t I get this truck for 60 grand because it has 200 more horsepower and it’s full size
I’m with Andre, the voice of reason! Andre for President! 😁
I’m with Andre on this one. Better than base raptor and cheaper.
They don't make ANY V8s anymore mate, there just is NO S/C V8 coming to Ram's rescue !!
This is a perfect truck for the consumer at a better price than than the six figure mortgages. I think Ram is going to sell many as long as they can control the price. Finally a manufacture talking to the consumer in a tough market.
Didn’t ford do this to the Raptor when they went from a v8 to the twin turbo v6
Yes but they also made more HP when then they went to a V6 and had better suspension. Only downside was the V6. Trx comes out ford says ok I'm your huckleberry and drops the raptor R. When I look back at the situation ford was playing chess not checkers.
They turned the old impractical TRX into a much more practical truck for way less money and this dude isn’t happy about it why?
WOW. The fact that the guy in the blue shirt thinks a hybrid is what truck guys want just shows how off his base he is. Truck guys want V8, or twin turbo. I'd take an I6 bi-turbo over an hybrid option.
One major thing that people don’t realize about the late TRX is range. It always made me nervous going off road/overlanding with
I agree, but we'll see. Turbos drink fuel up like no other lol
I wish they had a 2wd option on the rho. The awd only on the trx surely didn’t help the mileage.
This is their Raptor non R direct comp
As Scooby Doo says when he sees the price: rut-RHO
Magic stellantis trick. Launch v6 instead of hellcat for same price as trx was when it first launched.
Yea - we remember our now "affordable" $77K 2021 Ram TRX! Didn't want to sell it.
Roman sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about about in this vid
Why, because he doesn’t agree with you?
@@garysarratt1 no because he is supposed to be an expert on the auto industry as well as the consumer industry and is not taking any factors into account at all. Literally just complaining it's a different engine. He's also ignoring everything dodge actually said in this is not a TRX replacement and the whole reason they didn't badge it a TRX is so they can bring the TRX back in the future.
@@Harps555 He’s not a wise expert giving advice; he’s a journalist running a media company that makes money by producing videos.
So... $47K cheaper only 160 less HP.... I'm sure there's a tune for that!! :) i think this truck will be a sales homerun.
More choices are better, especially when the RHO hits the secondary/used market. Roman being a big hater here.
I agree 100% with Andres sorry Roman people will be find with this truck
Nobody needs 700hp. 540 is good power if it has a great suspension. Ram always made good looking trucks, I'm a buyer. $100,000 is just too much for a truck or any vehicle for that matter.
It wouldn’t be a podcast if they both agreed on everything
Andre you meant to say RAM have "Refreshed" their Lineup 😁😁
15:12 wrong interpretation of data. The SR5 is too expensive for those shopping in that category, hence they aren’t selling. Sure, there are those who can afford the higher trims, but to confuse that customer with the average midsize truck price range shopper is wrong. Nissan Frontier is selling well and I don’t think that is a coincidence.
I never thought I’d hear Roman talk about this bad about a truck unless it was a Titan. 😂
@@PyroBlonde7777well said! So true 110%!
It's not bad for the price, but the fact that Ram doesn't offer a v8 is very sad. This will definitely take sales away from the 65k Tacoma TRD pro
It’s priced great comparatively. Curious to see where else they cut corners besides the powertrain.
Your reasoning makes me scratch my head, Roman
GM will rather try to sell you the Silverado EV or GMC Hummer EV for more money.
@@coachvonyo True, given the videos they have made about it.
Roman nailed RHO. Removed Hellcat Option.
We lost v8s so... I think this is more like a Rebel upgrade ( for that crowd)
I'll keep my 21 ram v8 for a while until a miracle happens lol
Make that base taco $28,000 like it should be and watch them sell out 🤔
Ram just joined the game late.
RAM and stelanitis don’t care - they just don’t seem to understand the American truck market/ buyer
Roman nailed it on this, the rho is a joke.
9 grand is a huge price difference. This thing will absolutely out sell the base raptor. I hope it forces ford to cut prices. To most people, 9 grand means a lot. He's lost touch.
The old man is missing the point....it's cheaper and still a very powerful truck. Not everyone has huge cash to buy top tier...It's a good move...
Roman couldn't be MORE ANNOYING...🙄🙄
I know people that said the same about the first gen Raptor(V8) vs every gen after. At the end of the day, it’ll still sell.
