Irish Girl First Time Hearing Sinead O'Connor "Feel So Different"

  • Nothing Compares To You is perhaps Sinead O'Connors best known song. The music video which featured Sinead's enchanting charisma was immediately recognisable due to her signature shaved head. But there was so much more to Sinead O'Connor and her music than what she looked like.
This outspoken Irish talent had an enchanting voice and was not driven by the typical goals of most stars and starlets. In 2023 we lost Sinead and many of you asked me to react to her song Nothing Comparews to You but as I grew up hearing that, I decided to listen to a Sinead O'Connor song I had never heard before and this brought me to her live performance of "Feel So Different".
This video also features a small Sinead O'Connor interview taken from the late late show in which she discussed Miley Cyrus and her music video Wrecking Ball.

I don't think Sinead was troubled... I think she lived in a very troubled world and she was just such a beautiful soul the troubles of this world were too much for her to take, the death of her son especially did her in... but I don't believe she personally had demons... I think the world were the demons and she had to battle them. SHe was very sane in a very insane world. She was put here by God's design obviously to teach us things.... she was a very unique and wonderful creation of God and now she is home with him finally and the trouble of the world is gone for her. Her interpretation of "Trouble of the world" is excellent because she felt everything she says, just like always.... you can see she feels everything deeply, even the violin... the way she uses her body to express the notes.... everything about her is just gorgeous... gorgeous person....

What a sad, beautiful song. What a voice! You're right, Diane, we lost a beautiful soul. I'll never forget her tearing up a picture of the Pope on Saturday Night Live in the 90s. She took a lot of abuse for being right.

American didn't know about the mass child abuse going on within the church.
The Irish knew about it but they didn't talk about it. It a brave soul to stand up like Sinead and say to the World what is going on.

@saoirsepaddy do they have definitely known as of about ten or fifteen years now. Before that, I would say that people who are Catholic or connected to the church new, but kept it hush-hush. I have charted a Catholic institution, and I would say that I knew a lot of people who probably were much like the priest in Boyke's novel, if you've read that. Wondering, looking back, if they'd been complicit

That SNL performance was brilliant protest. A total mic drop. My siblings and I used to be Catholic. Luckily we didn't have predator priests. But I'm proudly secular. But I admire Sinead's religious journey. And I will eventually remember her Muslim name, which was her name when she passed. She lives in me forever ❤️💪🎤🕊️⚖️

Sinead was literally the music and soundtrackof my early adulthood. I listened to her first few albums literally non-stop. Nothing Compares to You brought her fame she was very uncomfortable with and never came to grips with, as she always viewed herself as a punk and a protest singer and she wanted to stay true to that goal and not change into a commercial artist, and slave to the music industry. It is true that her songs, with the exception of Nothing Compares 2 U, were not designed for commercial success but just designed for Sinead to express herself and her pain and life experiences were really her best songs. Listen to anything off The Lion and the Cobra. Google the top ten songs by Sinead and listen to them. Every song she ever sand she did so in an amazing and distinctive way. her voice was unearthly, very few will ever match her purity of soul and spirit, in my opinion The world is much the poorer for her loss but much the richer that she was here at all. If anything good can come from her death it would be that people listen to her music again, with an open-mindedness they never had for her talent when she was alive.

Thank you so much for playing it and that live performance. I remember that song from when it first came out. It was a difficult time for me personally, a lot was getting re-aligned in ways that were both painful and transformational. I think Sinead was a provider of songs as prophecy and insight, not a performer in the common sense. I expect her live concerts were each uniquely different from the rest.

The most beautiful song of hers is relatively unknown and I don't know why. Its on a movie soundtrack, and the song is called HEROINE, as in female hero. The movie is called CAPTIVE and U2s guitarist THE EDGE and their drummer LARRY MULLINS wrote the score and songs for that movie's soundtrack. Sinead was 16 and she sang the HEROINE song as the U2 fellas played the instruments. It's not just a beautiful song, it's one of THE MOST beautiful songs I know. I listen to it often, as well as a few other songs from the soundtrack. Highly recommended. It's on youtube.

I wasn’t really into her usual pop stuff but was impressed with a lot of traditional songs she song after hearing her sing factory girl of The Chieftains Tears of Stone Album I believe the song was Factory Girl that album was full of women mostly Irish sing songs that had some tie to feminist issues the octave range she had was impressive to say the least. She definitely had a troubled life though. Thanks for taking the time to honour her Diane

Sinéad O’Connor was a true individual. She though for herself and was not afraid to voice her own opinion, When it was not a popular one. The powers that be; could not handle that so they shunned and tried to destroy her. Rest easy Sinéad.

Sinead definitely felt music as a extension of herself and her life experiences with raw emotion.Enya is a bit more straight with the singing, but listen to her accompaniments, especially on "Orinoco Flow(Sail Away)",which was a huge hit.Her albums sold millions, which is surprising for a world music singer.

What can I say that you haven't already said. I never had a problem with her talent, "Nothing Compares 2 U" has been living rent free in my head since its debut, but like you, I didn't always agree with her views. Maybe it's projection, but it appears to me that the incredible passion that she is able to convey in her music comes from a place of pain. She can finally rest. A song you probably know that I like, but you can understand is Sinead O'Connor - "Oro Se do Bheatha Bhaile". It's on UA-cam. Also, if you can find "Nothing Compares 2 U" acapella, it's really exceptional. Not necessarily for a video, I just thought you might like them.

Yes, she had a beautiful voice, but at least as important (in my opinion) is that she had things to say. She had a traumatic childhood, strong beliefs, and a will that chafed against restriction. She didn't care whether she pissed people off, which is one reason she didn't reach the level of financial success of equally talented contemporaries. But that same insistence on telling her own truth is what attracted a lot of people to her.
