Medina is such a better surfer now. It'd be interesting to see how the judges of today would assess this. Things to consider, the bobbles on Medinas waves, variety, and the difference in approach from backhand and forehand surfing.

Being Brazilian and a Medina fan , got to be honesty. At the time and watching a few times over in the past,always thought Joel should and won this final. Today seeing again here in bed during this terrible moment we all are going thru , have to say my mind and opinion still the same. Joel did better,now one thing doesn't justify the other. What they did at Pipe the same year with Julian over Medina was far worse,and many others occasions . Is all water under the bridge now , can only hope we all be well to see the tour back as soon is possible. Be safe

I was there. Hard pill to swallow that Joel lost, considering Medina won by doing backhand snaps on the scraps further down the point. Medina skipped the most technical/heaviest/critical part of the wave. Not one critical take-off into the barrel from behind the rock on any of his waves. It'd be like winning Pipeline by surfing on the shoulder and skipping the barrel.
Simple the best contender so far. Medina it's not some ET, he is the Angel, fly Angel Gabriel.
He stands more pression than anyone.
Suck it WSL, Gabriel belongs the people and God.

Just with the style parko wins. Just looks better on the wave . Fluid drive flowing like the water
Median’s 8.5 wave was scored too high.. he did nothing spectacular on that wave and should’ve been a high 7 or 7.8 max.. and parko’s second barrel and turn combo should’ve been high 7’s or low 8’s 🤷🏼♂️ parko clearly ripped off in this final..
Joel's 9.0 was overscored. Fat tube and fat wave with cutbacks & flat re-entries. Gabriel's 8.5 was also overscored, to make up the difference.
Parko got robbed. Medina was heavily overscored. Even Charlie knew he shouldn't have won this. That 7.33 from medina was so shit. The claim was the most scoreable moment.
if parkos second wave didn't have foam on the face he would have easily one.
