Btw - I didn't mention it in the vid but to be absolutely accurate the lens that played HAL 9000 in 2001 was the 8mm f/8 Fish-eye manufactured from July 1962 to April 1965 while the lens shown in the catalogue is it's replacement, the 8mm f/2.8 Fisheye Auto introduced in February 1970
I received my first camera on Aug 1 1971 as a graduation present, a Canon FTb. I was immediately hooked on photography and became aware of the Nikon F and aspired one day to own one. I own two. I was in Bournemouth England on November 27, 1971 so this was a wonderful trip down memory lane for me. Thank you so much.
I got my great grandpa’s Nikon F camera, came with the 35mm f2.8 and 200mm f 5.6, absolutely stunning camera. I would love to get it CLAd and get the meter working with modern batteries. For now though, I like using my AT-1 another camera grandpa had. He really liked photography, yes he did.
My what an absolutely mint-looking Nikon F. I have one too with the Photomic Ftn metering head best I can ascertain from the serial number late 1971 or early 1972 manufacture. It is in excellent condition the only blemish is a small nick on the plastic surround around the eyepiece..looks like it got bumped against something hard and took a small chip out of the plastic. Later found a Nippon Kogaku 50mm f/1.4 Nikkor-S lens and original Nikon fitted everready case to go with it; those too in excellent condition. I found battery conversion inserts that allow for use of modern silver oxide batteries for the light meter and converts to the proper voltage. Wonderful 'tank' of a camera..don't make them like that any more.
Very cool video! I bought an Olympus om2n once that came with the original manuals and brochures similar to your F. Surprisingly the brochure/manuals contained nudes! Like they used nudes as the example photos you could take with the camera. It was quite the unexpected surprise and definitely something you won't see nowadays.
My god - what an absolute stunning copy of an "F" - looks unused. Congratulations and I'm not even going to ask.... I've just scored a rather minty F2 from Japan, so looking forward to seeing that arrive, will go nicely next to the F3 and F4 :-) Great video by the way, love the intro footage. Was that his daughter? I thought you said girlfriend.
Thank-you! Ah very nice hope you have fun with it. Hmm that clip was from The French Connection and I think it was his girlfriend - I could be wrong though

Kubrick loved using Nikon lens on his cameras. I saw the BTS story about Apocalypse Now and how much he fretted about his lenses.
Interesting info..those Nikon fisheye lenses were quite the optical achievement. Thanks for sharing.
It's insane how pristine that F looks I have one from the early 70's and it's worn through the nickel plating in some areas

@@baylissprojects yeah was probably meant to be his girlfriend, just saying she looked like she should have been his daughter 😬
Beware of buying the Compartment Case FB-5.
It leads to search and buy also the other types of Compartment Cases . . .
Looks like she did not use her Xmas present very much.
